The Russian state is considered to be founded in 862, so that would be 1149 years. But.. 20 years only if we're talking about Russia as known today, ie after the USSR fell apart ;)

Mammacarlucci, I have a very strong suspicion our husbands are future colleagues! :) We are only moving to Dubai in January so can't share any personal experiences with you but based on a few reviews and recommendations we've so far short-listed three nurseries - Kids' Island, Kids' Cottage and Small World. The first two are in Jumeirah 3 and the last one in Jumeirah 2 so shouldn't be too far away from where you are. Hope this might help a little. Good luck :)

I never took care of my skin that much but nowadays i fell like I need to do that. Can anyone advice me on how to? Until now I just wash my face with soap. no cream nothing else. If very much needed like in dry winters I use nivea. How should I maintain a good skin? Like the whole process? What should I use for cleansing, night cream day cream etc etc, I have oily skin. Did you start having all these questions because you are turning 30 soon? :) Because that's about when I started to have mine and they were all the same :-))) I agree with Freckly's suggestion but would add one thing in there which is 'protect' - so clean, tone, protect & moisturize. If you have oily skin I would suggest you use cleanser and/or tonic with exfoliating agents (like salicylic acid) to help remove dead cells which would improve your skin tone and complexion. To prevent your skin from premature aging it would be good if your day cream contained antioxidants (e.g. vitamin C), eventhough I personally prefer to use an antioxidant serum separately before moisturizer. To moisture, look for something light like gel or emulsion, and it would be really great if you checked their composition first to see if there are any pore-clogging ingredients. I normally use this site - http://www.cosmetic-ingredients.net/ - and then cross-check the ingredients with the list from here - http://www.savvyskin.com/how-to-prevent-cosmetic-acne - when I want to try a new product. Oh and you don't need to check all of them, just first seven or eight :) As for brands, I think most of producers nowdays have wide variety of skin care products for all skin types, but I still prefer to use pharmacy brands as they normally contain higher percentage of active ingredients. Last but not least, all that being said, it would still be best for you to pay a visit to a beautician or even better dermatologist so that they can diagnose your skin and help with their professional skin care advice :) Good luck and happy upcoming birthday :) edited by The Russian on 17/11/2011

"The Russian"'s checklist is pretty good, I'd say :). With regards to "first aid availability", I just want to mention, that by law, every nursery has to have a nurse on its premises during operating hours, so first aid has to be in place at all times. Thanks)) now we just need to find a nursery that's close enough to it LOL :-)

Thanks a lot ladies - phew! ;) just kidding. A bit :) Not that I mind to help every now and then - but having an experience with a non-profit nursery here in Germany where we are actually expected to participate in various kind of events including e.g. gardening or cleaning days (on a weekend!!), not least because the nursery simply would not be able to afford to have it done without our help. We do it ofcourse but I'd be lying if I said we enjoy it. So as long as these schools' well-being and functioning do not depend too much on parental involvement and there's no pressure like you say - it's all good :)

That's our checklist for a nursery - hope might help... - friendly atmosphere - the staff should really love their job! - children/adult ratio - good indoor and outdoor facilities - diverse activities, 'learn through play' philosophy, ideally daily programs available - what's the background of teachers and assistants - first aid available? - what kind security arrangements they have in place - are children taken really good care of - dry diapers, clean hands, not too warm/too cold etc - do they provide lunches? - is it possible to have flexible hours/days (if we only want a couple of days a week) - no TV!! - music classes/activities Good luck!

Hi ladies! So, I'll need to get a new license to drive in the UAE. Thing is, we'll be living in Dubai but DH's company is in Sharjah so that's where we'll be registered. The question is, if my residence visa is issued in Sharjah, can I still go to a Dubai driving school or will it have to be in Sharjah as well (really hope not)? Thanks in advance!

I just started using SkinCeuticals Retinol 0.3 and absolutely love it - no irritation even on my sensitive skin. From what I have read, however, they only recommend to use retinoids in autumn/winter months due to the fact that during the use of such products your skin becomes very photosensitive and hence much more prone to pigmentation. Ofcourse one always uses high SPF factor but still, something to be aware of, considering winter in UAE is like summer in Europe.. If you are looking to prevent, I swear by SkinCeuticals antioxidant serums, you can check on their site www.skinceuticals.com - Serum 10, CE Ferulic or Phloretin CF. They are not super cheap but can easily last for 3 months. Love the effect on my skin and fully trust the power of their ingredients. Good luck))

Hi sadubai, sorry - don't have any answers for you, thing is we are also moving to Dubai in January and thinking about a villa in same area(s); it sounds from your post like you were able to locate some compounds with toddler facilities there - if so, would you mind sharing which ones are those? TIA!

That's my story, too... and an ongoing one)) I was about to land a great job in Moscow after my first maternity leave but had to give it up as we moved to Germany. After my second maternity here I finally got another great offer locally and then BANG, DH gets this opportunity in Dubai... so we are moving again. Disappointing, yes... but totally worth it. That being said, I am still struggling to cope with the financial dependence. I've been making my own money ever since I was 17 (and I'm 31 now and it's been three years since I'm not working) and I just can't feel comfortable spending something I didn't earn. Not talking about 'household' money ofcourse but money to spend on myself. And that is despite the fact that my DH is very considerate, always encouraging me to buy stuff for myself and I cannot remember a time when I had to ask him for money. It's just something that sits in me and I can't really help it.

Fairly standard procedure to have you diploma attested. It is usually your degree. There are companies in Dubai which are able to assist (i.e. Index), although it may be easier to arrange it in your home countires. Ahhh.. not sure about easier... it's such a bureaucratic nightmare in Moscow! Before I can take my diploma to the UAE embassy I need to have it attested by Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, get some kind of confirmation letter from my University... would have been happy to avoid it - especially considering we're currently living in Germany! DC & Princess_I - my visa will be sponsored by my husband but I (naively?) thought when/if I find a job my visa can be simply transferred to the company - but sounds like I'll need to arrange for a work permit first??

Hi Ladies! We'll be soon moving to Dubai and are thinking about having a live-in maid. I've been reading quite a few threads on this forum and it sounds like sponsoring a maid often comes with a lot of hassle, fairly large investment and most importantly high potential risks. I'm just wondering why people sponsor maids themselves and not go through agencies which - please correct me if I got it all wrong! - do all paperwork, remain responsible for the person they have found for you, provide help when she's out on holidays etc.?.. I understand the main reason is that most part of the maid's salary goes to the agency but isn't it possible to e.g. stipulate for lower contract salary and then give her generous tips to 'bridge the gap'?.. or are there other reasons as well? just trying to figure out how to best approach this process so would very much appreciate your input on this one :) Also, if you get a maid from an agency and they are sponsoring her - is it still legal for her to live in your house?? Read some comments here about a maid's husband not being allowed to live together with his wife as long as he is not sponsored by the same family.. or am i confusing things?? Thanks a lot for your advice ladies!

Ladies, thanks a lot for your posts - things start to settle down a bit in my head :) Big Blue, very useful insight on traffic issues)) and Sophie27, great to have your realtor's reference - we'll most likely get a chance to come down for a few days without the LOs prior to the final move so will definitely ask your contact for help guiding us through some nice areas not too far off the SZ/Emirates Roads :-)

Also bear in mind that your DH will be commuting against traffic so it's not a total disaster. Oh - thank you! I was soooooooo hoping to hear something like this ;) But then saw salsB's reply and got all confused again.. we'd think it can't be that bad considering there are more people living in Sharjah and working in Dubai than the other way around - or at least that's what we've heard so far.. or no? Guess we'll have to run a couple of test drives before finally picking up a place to live :)

The official site says it's up to three bedrooms: http://www.emaar.com/index.aspx?page=emaaruae-downtownburj-southridge We're also looking at that area so I checked it on google maps and it seems like there's still a lot of construction works nearby South Ridge...
