Ladies, one by one.. THANK YOU SO MUCH for your help, compassion and advice... it really is heartwarming... I am still waiting for one person to contact us locally to help us through the process, but yes I heard it is 10/day each for those on residency visa... what a relief compared to 100/day visit visas... as i said i will post the info as soon as i go through it, the forum doesn't cover this information and it might come in handy

Thank you ladies who chose to help with advice, I will be following up on this soon and add my bit of information when I find it so that others can benefit from it if God forbid it happens to any other family (and it does more often than we think) ... thank you again as for those who chose to be in your own words 'nasty, cruel' I'd say stop being judgmental that is not your place, nor the time, it is not helpful, I asked for information not for mean comments, that's not why many of us come here for...

I went through an agency as I didn't want someone with ME experience. I interviewed few maid locally & some of them had lots of unreasonable expectations. She's been with us for 2 yrs. We sent her on a 1 month paid vacation last year & we'r renewing her contract for a 3rd year before she goes on vacation next month. She's not perfect byt she's the right person for the job. She joined us when I was pregnant. DS was also suffering from colic & reflux. We didn't expect her to take responsibilities of the baby but she offered to help & she took some responsibilities like watching him when I'm busy cooking, taking a nap or a shower. DS is 18 months & she's really good with him. She doesn't babysit but she will happily do if we want her to. xx This is exactly what we are looking for. Could you PM the agency you used if you do not mind me asking? Thanks everyone we are going to stop looking for now and wait until I get there to start again. hello there, When are you coming to Dubai, if you are 100% sure you don't want a 'locally available/recommended maid by leaving sponsors' I might be able to help you emial me on saby 98 m at gmail dot com

why not book 5 maids at the same time. 4 sit in the kitchen waiting as you interview...if only 1 of the 5 shows up at least you have not wasted your time lol i like the idea... make THEM wait... revenge for all the other mums lol sorry to hear they waste your time like that, what IS their POINT though??? 0_o then people tell me they prefer maid available in Dubai!!!

you will know when you meet her (check body language and other signs) but even better....call the family (they have to give an NOC and transfer her visa to you, so you MUST speak to them do it once you met her better than wait til all paper work is sorted... good luck

Thankyou guys, all very good points. I am mainly looking for a housemaid and have explained to them that their main tasks would be looking after the house. But even still I would need help now and again with the kids anyway so i need someone who wouldn't shy away from nanny / housmaid work. Thanks very much IslandGirl but really looking for a maid to start within the next two weeks am slowly starting to go into meltdown mode. :) email me on saby 98 m at g mail dot com might be able to help

Not directly stress-relieving, but definitely helps to keep things ticking smoothly in Dubai... 1. Try to have a walk outside every day near some greenery. Listen to the birds tweeting. Breathe some air deep into your lungs, yup even the hot stuff. Look at the sunshine and appreciate it. 2. Always carry some pp/visa copies of yourself and your DH 3. Always carry some pp photos 4. Keep loose change for parking, always have 20/30 AED for a taxi 5. Have a paper diary for lists etc. Organised Mum has a brilliant range with pocket diaries/tear out shopping lists/meal plans etc. 6. Meal plan for the whole week. Cook at the weekend & freeze bolognese sauce etc ready to throw together a meal at short notice after work. 7. If SZR stresses you, don't drive on it. Choose Al Wasl instead, and budget for the extra time it will take. 8. Find the nearest grocery to you that delivers. Have them on speed dial at home & use them for milk/fruit/bread etc. Saves a trip to the supermarket. 9. If you don't have help at home, send your ironing (or washing + ironing) out to be done. Picked up and delivered back on hangers 2 days later. 10. Write lists of your deadlines, what HAS to be done today and what can wait until tomorrow. Relax.....:) second that... may be add... part time help at home too

I bought something called "Disc Repair" (in a small tube), to use on scratched discs and to clean them up. For the life of me I can't remember where, but anywhere that sells DVDs or equipment should have that or something similar. edited by Crystil on 22/04/2011 thank you Crystil... did the product work, is it for scratches or for general cleaning... I will check those CD stores (next to spineys's?)

I think most Westerners prefer to hire maids who are already in the country so that they can meet them first. Most do not want to pay the fees to bring someone over. However, it is probably wiser to hire a maid who has not been in the country before... So that's probably why you're having a hard time placing her, Sababy. Why don't you tell her to register with an agency in Ethiopia? edited by AnonDubai on 22/04/2011 thank you for being the voice of reason AD, especially that I am not a poster with an agenda... regarding the agencies in Ethiopia is that they charge them a lot of money there, and end up sending them to 'whatever family' even those with past bad treatment incl. those who don't pay for months :( and for much less salaries than promissed, and this is someone I was trying to assist, i just don't know anyone who needs a helper which is why I passed the info here...

just to clarify, since I have been accused of being 'obsessed with the Ethiopian helper'! I was only trying to assist her find a job since so many ladies here look for good maids, hopefuly no one will be bothered any further or throw empty accusations... I have always tried to help anyone and everyone!!! Iam a SAHM who wanted to help others FOR FREE!!!

Ok yesterday at the police station the officer told us this weekend 4 other ethiopian maids were reported to run away. Whats up with these girls? Not sure i want Ethiopian again. Anyone know about family who are relocating and maid looking for a new family? I'm thinking why the **** was she bothered to even come back from holiday and then run ??? oh dear, i have the feeling the agency has something to do with it. it looks like a local gang getting together... shame that they are being treated well so have no reason whatsoever to do such a thing...

Thank you so much for all the deal website info - spent good few hours checking them all out last night and have already bought a few things!! DH reckons I've spent money I wouldn't have normally spent but he just doesn't understand a bargain lol We've not bought an Entertainer book yet but have some visitors arriving soon so are just considering whether is worth buying or using the vouchers on some of the sites you've quoted - so much fun for me doing my shopping around :) good deeds good deeds, i'm glad many of you are staying late, I feel less lonely.. lol DH are all sharing the same feeling ... but a bargain is a bargain... with the 2for1 and ad7antage sites you might need the entertainer less... I have one too but that's because i intend to be here in the summer with my 3 kids and some visitors now and then :) do pass the site around.. I AM :)

I absolutely loved the cities in Morocco, specially Fez, Tetuan and Marrakech. This last one is too touristic, but if you are going with children maybe better. I also loved Sidi Ifni, which has an amazing beach just before you arrive to the town. Morocco is huge, though, so you should star to narrow down the area you are going to visit. Perhaps a resort by the beach in Essaouira is your best option. Locals can be very persistent, specially with Western ladies, so be careful if you are walking around on your own and dress modestly. edited by Nimonemo on 12/04/2011 thank you nemonemo.. i was told essouira is more for the young and funky... my kids are too young, may be a day visit will do but not to stay the whole 10 days right?... is there any water park i don't know about? i have been to morocco in the past with my parents as a teenager, to casa and drive the whole counry... now my turn to take my kids there and see the places i missed out on :) just can't tell where to go.. things changed in 20 odd years :s

Hello Sababy, I have had a Samsung, too. I used it for my private card and company card, as long as I was working. This is not the case anymore and I would like to sell it, if you are interested. I used it maybe for 3 months and haven´t touched it the last 12 months. If you are interested, please let me know. I need to check wich model it is, as I can´t remember anymore. As a matter of fact i am now looking for good condition second hand one... let me know the model, the price and send me ur email
