Hi, I know the feeling... I had to leave one of mine at the same time. But no guilt if you don't have a choice. It is something that has to be done and you have to make the best of it. Don't worry about the routine, babies just get into the routine around 3-4 months, and in my experience (I have 3 kids) it is usually easier and quicker with a third person other than mom and dad. And when you come home from work, you will dedicate yourself to your baby 100% as opposed to being with it all day and actually having little quality time. Make sure you have a reliable person taking care of your baby and having someone do the housework as well if possible and you will be just fine... Both of you. Thanks Veela, have you also experienced staying longer with the other children? How different was it? I feel my baby is just so tiny to leave him alone. Should I try to extend my break? Or will I need more leave later on in the year when he starts solids?

are these online groceries - geant/carrefour etc cheaper or the same prices? it would be nice to buy everything online (especially cleaning materials/toiletries) on a monthly/bi weekly basis and just visit the shops for daily fresh requirements instead of carrying heavy items back home

Dr George from genesis , he used to be with american hospital as Head of maternal dept before starting his own centre. he is absolutely brilliant and very very patient. he delivers at City hospital. the only reason i went with a female Obs was because i wasn't comfortable with a man delivering me, but for the next one (since i will have to anyways go for a C sec - i will most certainly choose him http://www.genesis-dubai.com/about-us-2/doctors-dr-george/ good luck edited by saggi_1 on 30/04/2014

That is exactly what i thought... its illegal but since the top cop is talking about it, it seems to be allowed as long as the nanny is aware about it. ---

Hi everyone :) I had my baby!! Liberty was born on the 25th Feb at American Hospital via VBAC - yay!! Dr Mia Branch was amazing and just let me carry on with a trial of labour despite my first born being a C-sec. She was happy as long as myself and the baby were ok. I went in on the 24th Feb at 2pm after 4 false labours!! 2 weeks before the birth I had my show, then lost my plug over a week, then walking became really hard and on the morning of the 24th I had a partial sweep as I was walking around at 4cm dilated for two weeks. The labour lasted until 8am on the 25th when my daughter was born. I had a second degree tear, used gas and air and two shots of pethadine which wore off an hour before the birth. I pushed without the gas and air and wow what an experience, so different from my first :) I pushed for an hour and a half and when she came out she looked tiny but weighed in at 10lbs 2oz (4.523kg) so bigger than my first!! I had a lovely golden hour with my little girl and she latched on almost perfectly straight away - we are still breast feeding two weeks later. After the birth she had jaundice so I stayed in AHD for an extra night. I had SPD in the last weeks of my pregnancy and this made walking after the delivery really hard and painful. The stitches started off ok but now I have some pain from them - mainly a pressure when I've stood a lot. I can manage a quick trip around the supermarket but can't go for a walk yet. My pelvic pain has now eased up and I can put weight on my right leg which was initialy impossible. Last of all my baby girl is perfect and my family now complete :) Good luck to everyone on this thread, lets hear some of your birth stories too x x Congratulations alowicious on the arrival of your little bundle of joy! we had our baby boy too on 9th March...I went through C sec with Dr Elsa, I had made peace with it after getting two different opinions... my baby's head was not engaged until week 39 and the placenta was aging not providing enough nutrients to my little bubs... it seems the head had not even engaged 1/3. I was extremely apprehensive about the C sec but so glad it all went really well. much better than i expected. Im so thankful that i didnt distress my little one by getting induced as post surgery, Dr Elsa said that my pelvis area was too small and the next one would be a direct C sec, even a 2 kilo baby cant pass through. Im not advocating C sec and would have loved to go natural if i could, but after my experience, honestly it was not bad at all... i was very keen to have skin to skin immediately post delivery and let him find his way to the breast... Dr Elsa ensured the drapes were down as soon as she pulled him out and i could see him and as soon as the pediatrician checked his basics (3-4 mins max) he was put on me skin to skin for about 1.5 hr which was amazing! in terms of pain: yes the first 3 days post delivery was quite painful but nothing unbearable as i was on painkillers... stayed at City hospital for five days which was great as it really helped getting all the extra help and information especially related to breast feeding and baby care as a first time mom. Overall a good experience and most importantly "i am a mommy to this wonderful little boy", grateful to god and enjoying every second with him

me too.. playing the waiting game.. enjoying the 'feeling of uncertainity' and dreaming about the baby :) i was a bit worried after my visit to Dr last week, as she said that my placenta has calcified (aging) and the baby has not yet engaged which could possibly mean a C section... i am much better now and just praying that any way is good as long as baby is fine :) all the best to everyone... wishing you and your family a wonderful time with your new born..

Thank you everyone - i kept feeling that i did not do enough ... but now realise after tons of reading etc.. that somethings have to happen as they are supposed to. i will get a second opinion and wait another week to see how it goes... but mentally a lot more stronger (not blaming myself) on any method as long as the baby is not distressed and comes to life healthy :)

Sorry can't give any advice on c-secs. Can say that from my understanding Dubai has a bit of a reputation for being pro c-sec/planned births especially in big private expat hospitals like City and American. Do you know if your oby-gyn has a reputation for being pro c-sec? It might be worth looking for an oby-gyn who is known for natural for a second opinion if only to put your mind at ease. Perhaps others can suggest someone, from my understanding Dr Elsa at City is quite good. Hi RuthM, i am with Dr Elsa at City :( i was thinking of getting a second opinion too but then its Dr.Elsa who is so pro natural... i feel i could have done something to have a natural delivery i didnt have sugar or any other issues throughout and was very active, somehow the reason, baby head isnt engaging doesnt sound a good enough reason for me to accept C sec....

Truly the Entertainer app is a waste!!! went to Asha's at MOE today and they said that they do not accept the app and only the printed vouchers! this is ridiculous! Entertainer makes you buy something and then changes the terms mid way... why have i paid AED 400 for this app then?

We have just done a photoshoot for our newborn with a professional photographer. Prior to the session I had sent her a series of images I liked as a guideline of what we wanted to get out of the session which she seemed very happy to receive. I had also put time and effort into making some props that I wanted to use during the photoshoot, and requested a few of her props to also be used and complement mine. However, when it came to the actual session I felt she was imposing on me using some of her props ('because she does not like all her images to look the same') as opposed to the ones I was indicating as my favourites and she kept on throwing all these things on our newborn when all I wanted was a few very nice and simple shots of the baby, a few with her sibling and a few detail shots of us altogether. She seemed to spend a lot of time taking lots of shots of the same poses just with different props and left no time for the rest of the shots. So the images that I had sent prior were more or less neglected. Now that I have seen a few of the pictures, they are far from what I wanted - I hired a professional because this is our one & only opportunity for us to capture this very special time in our lives and so I was looking for something close to perfection which is not what we have. At the end of the session we were talked into buying a further AED 600 worth of high resolution images and now I doubt we will be able to blow them up because I am not happy with the way the (supposedly) best ones look. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, how did you handle it? She is a very nice lady but in this case I am the client and now feel I was pushed onto doing something I did not want - partly my fault for not stopping her there and then, but during the session I kept on thinking she will give me the chance to have my input and I also did not want her to feel offended at me not liking her choice of props and shots etc. Sorry to hear about your experience...i am currently shortlisting photographers for my new born photoshoot... i would like to know who did your shoot and avoid signing this person/photographer im planning to short list between Lisa Penderis, , Barefoot, Jillian Greenhill and Nicky Mclean thanks in advance

i feel its certainly important to treat the maid with respect, provide them basic necessities and a salary that is higher than average bar by law and provide a decent day or two days off... HOWEVER its getting harder also because there are a few families that truly spoil the market... i know people on palm (where we live) that give maids every evening off or a couple of evenings off , allow Ph parties occasionally in their backyard, give extra money for overtime, have seperate cook/driver etc, allow late nights, live outs (which is supposedly risky if they on your sponsorship, you never know what trouble they can bring you into incase anything happens in the night - a friend of mine had a very bad experience) and many other things which the maids share with their friends or other maids around and suddenly everyone starts expecting that immediately and they know how tough it is to get new maids directly from ph

Geordie Expat - which areas within JVT are more developed and closer to the main roads? i am confused as to which blocks we should be considering. Also is a community area/pool in the plan for future or this is something i shouldnt hope for and make peace with? groceries: do supermarkets deliver? Thank you ladies. my main concern is space, travel time to work and good community... i prefer springs only due to accessibility and better community but JVT seems promising... we were thinking it would be a good idea to live their for a year and then decide if we want to buy something as a long term option in JVT I am sure JVT will change massively in a year as more apartment blocks are finished. Now we have good access on to and off Al Khail that has made a enormous difference. The only real thing it lacks are communal pools but a lot of people have just installed them in their gardens.

haha... i have actually started facing that even before my baby is born... right from the time i got knocked up - i meet several mothers/pregnant women either in my pre natal classes or socially who ask me how can i even imagine to work or leave my child (after 3-6 mts of maternity) and go to work - how bad it is for the baby and why would you have a child if you dont want to be a proper mother!?!?!?!? really? since when did working mums not be a good parent? arent there so many women who have become frustrated mothers coz they feel they sacrificed n sitting at home for their children, is that a good environment for the child? -- on the other hand - my lady boss has always been a working mum of three beautiful kids and their children are so proud of her and really want to be like her.. they actually ask her what do we need to do to get an office like yours.... :) people will continue to be judgmental no matter what... whats important is just what really suits you and your family

bronchial asthma is a common complaint of people who either move to gulf or kids that are born here... i used to be heavily asthmatic all my life and on ventolin pumps and was very tired of being tied down to these pumps... i started practicing pranayams (breathing yoga exercises) and slowly started seeing great improvements. please do not just watch videos and try DIY unless you are monitored by someone for the initial phase. there are so many yoga places so im sure you can find a good teacher just to help you get the right rhythm and then you can do it on your own. also try steam with a bit of eucalyptus oil (every single day) for sometime and it truly will help subside the dry cough/breathing problems. hope it gets better soon, goodluck

That is a hard one. We had a maid once who wanted to sit with us in the evenings in the living room. My dh had to tell her straight but in a kind way that he was out all day and needed time with his wife and children in the evenings. Most maids don't feel comfortable eating and sitting with their employers. When we first came we had a part time Indian maid from an agency. She just would not sit down when I'd give her some tea. She told me back home, she had to use a completely different set of cups and utensils from the family she was working for. I think the longer you let this go on, the harder it will be to change things; best to get it over with but frame it in such a way that it's your dh needing private family time. i wish i could have someone explain this to her...but i guess i will have to say that DH would like his space (which i did subtly today) and you can be in your room Has she got a tv or some entertainment in her room? You could also say that it's nice for her to have a break and relax on her own too. edited by A Rancher on 08/01/2014

Wow, not hard at all. When she said that bit that was your cue to say yes, it is fine once in a while. Now that moment has passed, you can remind her of it and say that you have no objections, but, you like privacy. Or give her a job to do at meal times. OR just say here's your tray, you can take it to your room. i should have said it immediately, i thought she wouldnt feel comfortable sitting with us in the first place as i feel uncomfortable to sit with a family friend if my DH isnt around......... i feel i am eating into their privacy/space... anyways i will have to try it once again tomorrow

It could happen to anyone in any country and while the husband is more to blame for breaking his vows and disregarding his child, there seems to be a higher than usual occurrence of predatory women here who will stop at nothing to snatch an attractive man - attractive that is in terms of income and earnings. yeah women in Dubai come with no dignity at all.. its tough to get a good man who gets serious so when they do get someone... no matter age, religion etc.. they just pounce! Sadly they dont realise this could happen to them as well!

Celesti, wishing you lots of strength and positivity to deal with this situation. Karma is a b i tch, and it will sooner or later bite them both in the a ss. You'll get out of this a stronger person. Don't be surprised if your DH comes crawling back to you in the end. Keep a diary and write down the events, your emotions and all details. This can help you later on with getting a clear picture of what happened, something that might be hard to have now you're in this horrible rollercoaster. Plus, it might help you with giving an accurate line of events to your child in 15-20 years, if your child wants to know the story. Ladies, is it just me or does a shiver also runs down your spine when you read stories like this? It sounds like it could happen to any of us, no matter how strong your marriage seems to be or how well you know/trust your partner. Or am I the only one? im thinking the exact same thing... no matter how strong your relation is, this can happen to anyone... im due in a couple of months and thinking what kind of world am i bringing my child into! is this all worth it? women go through soooo much to bring life into this world and all the pain/sacrifices in career/body/relationships and at the end - men have it so easy and get away with things so easily! the least men could do is work things out but they just take the quick way out! sigh!!!! life is unfair!

Im thinking these rates are sooo inflated already! if you check dubizzle the market is already demanding a high price and the RERA calculator is even higher than that! how was this updated? based on what...??? its ridiculous to have a decree which monitors rental increases but actually the prices are suddenly way inflated now! im not sure if you have noticed... even some normal restaurants (eg: Foodcourts) have increased every item on the menu is 2 or 3 aed already! im just trying to think, everything is inflated... our salaries havent been revised (which will not and even if they do it might be very small compared to the accumulated increase in expenditure) how are people going to survive? wouldnt it make sense to buy a house asap before the down payment terms increase too! What goes up must come down :-) hahaha.. thanks for calming me down.... thats true...

I am finding it very hard to believe the venom from some posters here. This is a terrible situation, but are you all seriously advocating a course of action which will ultimately damage an unborn innocent child? The OP has behaved beautifully all the way through a ghastly crisis, I'm sure she will want, for her own child's sake to maintain the high moral ground. Just because two other people have put their selfish desires first it doesn't mean she has to indulge in revenge. To Celesti, my deepest sympathy and admiration for the calm and adult manner in which you have attempted to save your marriage, all the very best for the future to you and your little one in a new and better life. Totally agree that why harm the unborn in any way... but this is something the mistress should have thought of when having illegitimate relations with a married man... anyways by law they wont harm the baby , just give a tough time to them and they can live elsewhere ! i feel the teacher should have atleast considered what the existing child and the family would go through for her selfish motives!

Celesti, really cant even imagine the pain and trauma you must be going through at the moment... stay strong (which you have for all this while) - best wishes to you and your baby.... it will all surely come back to him! Truly you are worth much more than a man who cant stand up for his family and child! instead of making things work he opted to get a new person - truly shameful. everything happens for a reason and hopefully for you something amazing is in store.... just dont give up and let him or this experience make you doubt yourself! All the best

the RERA Rent calculator is bizarre - the rent rates are showing soo high and they have not differentiated between elite properties versus normal ones... for example downtown all the buildings have similar rate estimates , its about 100k for 1bhk and the same in JLT. i cant imagine in JLT 100k for one bedroom as stated on the RERA calculator...we are safe for this year but in general these rates are just strange! surely companies are not going to increase our salaries by 15% or 20% to match these standards of living... moreover now even restaurants will increase prices since they will recover rent increase from us!
