Hello ladies, I am 32 weeks pregnant with my first baby. DH and I did not want to find out the *** of the baby and wanted it to be a surprise. EVERYONE i talk to, strangers, family members, they are all telling me I am having a boy. It's now driving me crazy and and making me so anxious to know the ***. DH is telling me we just have a few months left and to wait. Of course the most important thing is just having a healthy baby. But did any of you wait til the end or tried to wait but ended up finding out? Just wondering... edited by Sal 123 on 03/04/2012

I am 32 weeks pregnant. Hubby and I will be spending a few nights at Banyan tree this weekend. I really wanted to go to Qasr al sarab but since I'm in my 3rd trimester I heard it is not the best idea. It is in a very secluded area in the middle of the dessert. I would definitely choose qasr al sarab if I were you! Zighy bay sounds amazing but for the price I would rather vacation somewhere else!

Hi Elle, I know that there is a very small group of expats living there. The community is very small but there are always small get togethers and I'm sure you willl meet so many interesting wonderful people. I am Afghan American and was last there November of 2011. One of my best friends who is an expat and only 23 has been living there for the past 2 years and her parents work at the American Embassy. I know that her parents are never allowed to leave the embassy unless they are assigned work outside. My friends mom worked there for 3 years fell in love with the country and moved back with her husband 2 years ago. Unfortunately due to the recent Quran burnings things have been really dangerous there. When I last went to visit I was lucky enough to stay with my aunts and uncles who all live in kabul and also stay with one of my friends who lives in a guest house. It was interesting to see life from both sides. It will be an amazing experience to work there. The afghan people are so kind and you will just love the food and culture. The best thing for you is that you can have a short stay in Dubai during the weekends to get away. Also, the weather is going to be amazing there in the spring and it will probably be one of the most beautiful places you will ever visit. t's just sad to see everything that is happening and given the situation now it might not be the most safest place to visit. It really is one of those places where you just need to be careful and not be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Kabul is very safe compared to the rest of the country. The only problem with the city is that there is a lot of traffic and dust. During the winter there is lots of pollution. Of course I would advise you to never travel to the southern part of the country as you hear all the stories. As an Afghan I would never go there. Just talking about Afghanistan makes me so sad and miss it so much. I am having a baby in May so I don't think I will visit for another 2-3 years. I really think you will be fine there and it will be a great experience but definitely wait til things calm down a bit. Of course you can never go anywhere alone and you cannot trust the taxi drivers there. There are taxi's that just work for foreigners and charge a little more. I'm sure you can contact your embassy or your husband might have some drivers that work for his company. The best thing is to travel with an afghan local who can show you around. Hope that you can go someday and really enjoy your time there. =) edited by Sal 123 on 05/03/2012

Hi MrsChef I just bought one last week at Pottery Barn Kids in Dubai Mall. There was a promotion going on where you buy 1 slip cover and get another for free. Not sure if the offer is still available. The Boppy cost 200 and the covers cost 145-160 each. HTH! =)

Hmmm....the stroller will be real big and bulky so I doubt they will let it slide. I'll make sure to buy a travel bag for it. Thanks a lot! :)

I am planning on ordering a stroller from the US and will have my mother bring it before baby is born. Does anyone know if the stroller will have to be checked in as one of her bags since she won't be traveling with a child? I think she will be flying Qatar airways. Anyway would be nice if they didn't count it as check in but I'm sure they will?

Hi Sandy, I am planning on buying an uppababy vista sometime in march. I have done a lot of research on strollers and definitely think this is the best stroller out there. I actually met a mom with 3 children in NYC who had the baby jogger city and said that her favorite stroller was the uppa but unfortunately her older child no longer fit in the rumble seat so she had to change strollers. So many moms have said this stroller is so easy to push and never gets stuck and it isnt as heavy and bulky as some other stroller's. It is also much cheaper than the Bugaboo cameleon and the strokke! I love that it comes with the bassinet so you don't have to pay extra for it. The 2011 model is discontinued and you can order it for a very cheap price online. There is a new 2012 model coming out in February that has a few new features and that is the one I will be ordering. My mother will be bringing my stroller from the states when she visits before the delivery. I don't think you can find the stroller anywhere in Dubai and will have to order it from UK, Canada or US. So if you can get it from the UK i really think you should stick with the vista instead of the city jogger! HTH edited by Sal 123 on 21/01/2012

congrats Nutty on having a girl! You can enjoy all the baby shopping now. We have decided not to check the *** and want it to be a surprise. It's not as easy as I thought and I think i might just change my mind! I'm now on week 21 (can't believe how fast time is going by!) This is my first pregnancy and I was wondering if all of you have decided on which hospital you were delivering at. I was looking at both City and AH and have heard better things about AH. I'll be going on a tour sometime in Feb. I currently live in the marina and would love to get together with some other may mommies. Please let me know if anyone else wants to meet up. :)

My husband has used Parmar in Bur Dubai before. They have been around for a long time and have a very good reputation here in Dubai. They can be a bit pricey but the suit will be custom made so it may be worth it. My husband had his wedding tuxedo made there and it looked amazing on him...so your hubby should check it out. HTH

Thanks for all the help. I will be going back to the states again when the baby is 3-4 months so I can buy more clothes/baby items for when LO is older during that visit. Will the airlines allow us to bring a stroller on the plane when I'm pregnant? Or will they charge us? We will be flying Qatar airways.

I saw black metal tie-backs a few months ago in Pottery Barn Dubai Mall. I was looking for silver ones and I remember they only had black in stock. The color is called antique bronze. Here is a picture: [url=http://www.potterybarn.com/products/sol-holdbacks/?pkey=choldbacks-rings'>link[/url'>

Last night my diamond and the prongs broke off of my band. I didn't even hit my ring anywhere and cannot believe this happened. I noticed my diamond was missing and after searching the house for 10 minutes, I found it on the bed. I told DH that since I found my diamond I should be able to redesign my ring as a reward. Not sure if he fell for it :) But anyway I need to have my ring repaired and would like to find a good quality shop. I have looked at past threads and found a few jewellers that have both good and bad reviews. I am planning on going to Gold and Diamond park this evening. Any new shops I should check out besides Cara's and Mamiyas? Would appreciate the help! :) edited by Sal 123 on 19/10/2011

Went to Ruth Chris a few weeks ago with DH and found the quality to be very poor compared to the Ruth Chris restaurants in the states. I also did not like the set up at all with the big bulky leather chairs.

Hi Dubaicat, I had my 6 weeks scan and everything went well. Saw the yolk sac, fetal pole and heartbeat. I will be going back soon for my 8 weeks scan and to make sure everything is still fine. That's brilliant! Sorry for the late reply, for some reason EW has seen fit to kick me out twice in the past two weeks so I've been unable to post. Make sure you get enough rest and all the best for your next appointment :D. It's okay! Thank you so much for all your kind messages. I'm feeling more positive now and getting LOTS of rest. Feels like months have gone by until the next scan. :)

Hi Dubaicat, I had my 6 weeks scan and everything went well. Saw the yolk sac, fetal pole and heartbeat. I will be going back soon for my 8 weeks scan and to make sure everything is still fine. congrts sal123...i am also in the same boat...although i am nearing completion of my first trimester! whole time so scared and anxious for next appointment :) these 3 months are passing very very slowly! still 1 week left for me. are you taking any meds? i am on progestrone gel and glucophage. i had my scan at 6 weeks, 8 weeks, next scheduled for 13 week. i am worried about the no of ultrasound in just first trimester but atleast they soothe me...seeing baby growing fine on screen :) all the best to you...keep fingers crossed. Hi manubhadauria: Congratulations, you must be really excited that you're almost through with your 1st trimester! I have my 8 week scan this thursday and yes time is going by sooo slow! I don't know how I will make it through the next month. I was only taking metformin 2200mg/day before I got pregnant and now my doctor has lowered my dosage to 1500mg/day. She says she will probably take me off metformin after my first trimester. Is this the case for you also? Wish you all the best and hope you're feeling much better 2nd trimester. :)

I normally got my period every 35-36 days before I started metformin. I think metformin should make your periods more regular and shouldn't delay it. Also, diet and stress from knowing you're starting this medication could have delayed your period. After I started metformin my period started coming around 31-32 days and I was ovulating every month. Even though my periods became more regular you may have months where you will be late again. I went on holiday in July and when I came back I didn't get my period for 46 days. I was really frustrated but just had to be positive and hope my period would be more normal during the next cycle. Turns out I didn't get my period next cycle and I'm now 7 weeks pregnant! So you just never know with your periods... Also I would always take a pregnancy test every month and get a BFN and it would just stress me out. You really need to listen to your body. I felt pregnant even before I took a test and could just tell from the way my breast looked and I ALWAYS had a headache. Good luck Pricey and hope you get a BFP soon. :) edited by Sal 123 on 10/10/2011

Marks & Spencers is a clothing store but they also have a specialty food section. They do have some snacks that are similar to Trader Joe's. You should check it out. I spent a lot of time shopping around for health insurance. I decided to get BUPA for myself which is quite pricey but worth it because I'm currently TTC and they did not have as many restrictions as other insurance companies. For DH i found a very good american insurance company that is reasonably priced and we are really happy with them. If you are an american citizen, i would highly recommend this insurance. If you want, I can give you the name of the broker we used in Dubai. He was really helpful and sent us so much information with a breakdown of different insurances, costs, benefits, etc. edited by Sal 123 on 22/09/2011 edited by Sal 123 on 22/09/2011

Hi Soph- I bought a bunch of ovulation prediction urine tests from boots a while ago. This is my first cycle using the test and I finally got a positive result yesterday on CD 19 so lets see what happens. =/ I might be going back to the states in a few months and can just pick up some digital tests from there but thank u for asking. :) I live in the Marina area. I would love to get together for some green tea, or coffee is fine too, as long as I don't drink it allll the time. :) Dubai Cat- I just went to boots and picked up the fertility diary/ thermometer kit. HI Soph- I also have PCOS. Moved here little over a year ago. Planned to have babies right away and after trying for 3 months, I found out I had PCOS. I was prescribed metformin 2200mg a day. I'm not at all overweight and after taking the medicine for almost 10 months, I've lost about 5kg. Right now, I'm trying to find out whether i'm ovulating and will most likely start clomid next month. I'm using the ovulation tests for this cycle and so far i've only had a negative read. I'm also trying to find one of those thermometers to chart my temps and will you know if I find one. I guess all we can really do is try to stay on a healthy diet, stay positiive and be patient because I know one day it will happen for both of us! =D edited by Sal 123 on 25/05/2011 edited by Sal 123 on 25/05/2011
