Hi Wiesie, We arrived end of Feb from South Africa to Dubai. I hv 2 girls, (4 and 7y old). I have no experience with home schooling at all (have to admit was thinking about it for a while when we planned our move)..what are you looking for exactly? To start new homeschooling or looking for a school? Because of different schoolyear (Jan-Dec in SA and Sept_JUNe here)), we only arrived end of Nov, so my eldest could finish grade1 in SA. She was enrolled here in school in grade 2 (she missed the first term though). She goes to chouiefat school (bit of stricter school, but she is doing fine). Youngest is in KG2 now..

thanks ladies.. was just googling the bedouin Oasis one, as they are in entertainer book. Looks promising..Just bit afraid of the cold (during the night) for my 2 kiddies in the desert, or is that fine? Is the dune bashing also rough? Do you remember the price you paid?? I emailed them, waiting for their reply..:-) thanks for the input!

We parked at a parking near the tent, but then I think you should arrive no later then 5.45h, as it was quite full. We bought tickets at 16h, went to the festival mall, for early diner and came to circus area around 5.45h..then we could already go inside..

hi Mai Tai, I have a 4y old and a 7y old and they both get 10AED a week ;-) , and sometimes little extra if they behave or did well! Even at this age, I think they already learn a lot from it. They love to see there pocket money building up. It was meanly ment for the 7y old, but we give both, just to make it easier. When we are in a shop and they ask for a stupid crappy toy or soft bear or whatever which they already have hundreds of...I say to them, ok, but goes from your pocket money, so think wisely if you really want it. Only then, you can see them thinking and making decision (before it was just normal that mommy buys 'everything' and kept moaning, NOw you can see them thinking if it is worth while..Most of the times they decide to keep the money.. At this age ofcourse, it is only for 'stupid' toys and we still buy everything.

I am not an expert, only can say what worked for my girls. They are both very good sleepers (touch wood), but when the oldest was 2, she also (for a short period) tried to sneak into our bed in the night for a while. Advice they give me at the time: don't let her! Put her back in her own bed, dont talk too much to her while you do that, just quietly put her back and go away.. Kids at that age, are indeed afraid of the dark and mine still have little light in their room. I was also a big fan of stickerchart reward system: not waking you up in the night is a sticker the next morning! 5 stickers is a little reward! Goodluck!

I would go to the principal and have a meeting about it...especially since she says these things in front of other children. Do you know what that does to a little boy / girl self esteem?? At this age, kids should feel loved and feel safe at school.. That women should not be teaching! If it was me (but I am a bit of a tiger when I want to protect my kiddies) would go to principal. (maybe together with that other mum)... Other suggestion: go to the teacher and tell her what you think of her haircut! and how ugly her shoes look! Goodluck..as I am also a KG2 mom, I know how fragile they are at this age...

Hi flowerhead and MC, looks like my day, chores and EW and facebook ;-) try to come out as well, but not meet anyone at gym or school ... when I get back into my car at 7.40 I either go straight home, where I do chores, catch up on friends on facebook etc, watch a bit of telly, more chores !! etc.... the day flies by..or I go for breakfast/coffee/shopping usually on my own but once a week with friends..I try to alternate my days so I don't feel i'm always doing the same thing..I usually find I have too much to do most of the time (mainly because i'm so badly organised !!) eta - sorry you lost your friend - i'm sure you'll meet someone else... edited by Molly Coddle on 28/01/2013 Hi MC! As I don't have anywhere else to go, I do the same things every morning: go back home after drop off, do some chores (we live in a 2 bed. apartment, no garden so it's quite easy to maintain and clean) and then go on EW to read a few threads and check my e-mails. But still, I found it hard to have no real social interaction with anybody except DH and DS...

Hi Shamrock, Honestly, when I was reading your post, this could have been my post..also here since 2 months, DH also arrived few months earlier.I also struggle to meet friends..Would love to meet new people, families to do stuff with in the weekends, woman to go shopping with, or breakfasts, do an art course, whatever.. We had a nice circle of friends, in both countries we lived in,it was relativly easy to make contact..but aso struggle here... I still think it is very early and I need to give it time.. Which area do you live? age kids?

Hi, My advice would def be to go to a paed. Just to be sure there is nothing wrong with her.. My baby (although already 7y ago), had more or less the same..She was the easiest baby, but all of the sudden, she started having these crying hours...at least one hour a day she cried (an I mean she cried big times!)..(and you would know..that is long)..Going to few dr..some of them even said: Aaaach madam, all babies cry! (make you feel like you are an overworried stupid first time mom), but as a mom you can tell the difference between a cry for attention and a cry that there is something wrong. Only after few weeks of crying, we finally saw a 'good' paed. He saw that my daughter was suffering from reflux and that was the reason for crying. We had never suspected it, as she was not throwing up, or giving back milk.. But her throat was very red , meaning her milk was always coming up causing irritation..(without vomiting).. So I am not saying that this is the problem in your case,..as I think babies can cry for several reasons..just saying take her to paed..let someone exam her...If you are worried, go to the doctor! Goodluck and hope you find the problem soon..

We just went today to the 6.30h show. It was very good..was amazed myself with a lot of the tricks..My girls as well (4 and7y old). We had 75aed tickets and that was fine. The 50 aed ones are all in the back (and on benches (and show is 2h), so would not take those... I would say..go go go! you will have a fun evening out! Enjoy!

but have you compared to shutting them off? I read some of the stories here on how high their dewa bill (we are still waiting for our 1st one..aaarrrggghhh), so I started to turning the heaters off during the day etc..but no idea if it makes a difference..I it only is gone save me a few AED, then not worth the trouble...

Nothing wrong with Chouiefat, so far as I can see..My girls are there since Dec-Jan. School is very good academic reputation and teachers are all Western (which to me is important, so that they speak 'proper' English). Also a bonus for me is that they have French as an extra langauge. It is indeed a very structured school, but that is ok for me..

both my girls are in Choueifat school, we pay around 23000aed a child. we are from Belgium, but lived 5-6y in South Africa where my kids went to school. Lot of arabic kids in chouiefat, but very good academic school and western teachers. Bonus for me is that they also have french as a subject.
