You should also check to see if your company (or spouse's company) has an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) via your HR manager. Even if your health insurance does not cover mental health, the EAP may provide short term counseling for free (usually up to 6 sessions) either on the phone or face to face (though may have to ask specifically for face to face after initial phone consultation. Worth looking in to. It's a program that generally exists to help employees and their families get through difficult times for short term. *Also to add- some counsellors are willing to reduce fees based on inability to afford full fee. Just ask.

That's so encouraging to hear! Thanks for sharing your experiences with all of us. I, too, recommend Dubai Community Health Centre (DCHC) and American Center of Psychiatry & Neurology, as well as LightHouse Arabia. Thankfully there are options in Dubai for excellent mental health care. Unfortunately there are individuals and organizations that are providing care without the proper qualifications nor licensure. Be your own advocate and ask the right questions like I did. There's been plenty of press coverage over the last year regarding this....here's one... http://www.thenational.ae/news/uae-news/hundreds-of-dubai-care-professionals-working-without-licence

How about the American Center? http://www.americancenteruae.com/ They have a long list of psychiatrists and psychologists. Perhaps read through their profiles until you find one that suits you (studied in America, for example). As does LightHouse Arabia (whose staff, I believe trained and/or are American). http://www.lighthousearabia.com/PsychologistDubai.aspx Alternatively, Dubai Community Health Centre DCHC has reputable professionals. http://www.dubaicommunityhealthcentre.org/

House of Prose is the second hand bookshop that buys/sells books. You can buy a second hand book and return it for a guaranteed 50% of what you bought it for. Plus it's a fantastic small business idea that promotes recycling (of books), literature, and they have locations in cool places (Dubai Garden Center, ACE festival city, and a small plaza in Jumeirah - i think it's called Jumeirah Plaza. We love this place and browse through the shelves with our kids too.

I agree, LightHouse Arabia is highly recommended for counselling. They also have the Raymee Grief Center which specializes in grief and bereavement counselling, including offering free support groups to bereaved individuals of all ages. Free lectures too, which I've attended and thought were excellent. http://www.lighthousearabia.com/PsychologistDubai.aspx

The farmers markets sell fresh local (some import) organic produce at extremely reasonable (cheaper than the shops) prices. PLUS you are supporting your local farmers!

if you take the frame to Satwa, there are a couple of aluminum shops on the main road that will make a new fitted screen for you. I did a window frame for 35 dhs on the spot, then ordered additional frames and screens for around 100 each.
