Sorry for hijacking this thread but I see that original concern has been answered so I will ask my question: Ladies, what am I doing wrong with my washing machine as recently the clothes are coming out with stains (small dots) like oil splashes? Any idea?

Dibdab, I dont mean to dampen your hopes, however I am inthe same field and I am Chartered too. Since I have alot of insight into this field (as all my friends are from the same background) the reality of Dubai is that there is alot of 'cheap labour' available from India and the Far East in this profession today and therefore, you will not benefit at all from a couple of exams unless you are a certified/qualified professional. Also, these people are ready to work much more for less money which is not the culture amongst Western people. So sadly, what you see and based on your qualification you may not get alot out of this profession unless you invest more time. Although, if you are planning to do some exams, you may try the big five audit firms (PWC, KPMG. etc) as they are always looking for 'trainees' who are studying and being exposed to clients you might be more likely to get a job with them. Those were my two cents...PS. I am also for the subcontinent and I apologise if I offended anyone by my mention of 'cheap labour'.... edited by SanRan on 08/12/2011

Has anyone bought beauty services (like facial) via the groupon/cobone vouchers? If yes, what sort of experience did you have? I bought a voucher for a deep cleansing facial at one of the better known saloon which was actually worth AED 450 and the discounted price was AED 200 (approx) and I was really really disappointed. I dont know if it is becoz I told them I had a voucher upfront. I was left in the room for 15 mins initially. Then some applied and left again. Then wiped and left another steam. Painful extraction and then something applied and left to dry. I was done within 45 mins. The voucher mentioned some sort of anti aging massage etc which I dont know it was done. Now I have had deep cleansing before and I know it really takes a long time....I wouldnt pay 200 for this services forget 400.... but now I am wondering, it is really worth buying these services from these discounted sites? Any other similar experiences?

Derien, Lots of hugs to you....I went through something similar with my daughter last year...all of a sudden she turned into an alien - angry, lying, aggressive and people who know my girl would not believe me...however after alot of discussions, we realised there was a new girl in class who was causing these disurptions...luckily I spoke to another parent and she said the same thing. This girl was very mean but popular and said alot of mean things, about religion, the way people looked, etc etc I did complain to the teacher and as luck would have it, she has left this year. But I took me some time to figure what has changed...can you speak to mothers of the other boys in class to see if they are troubled as well? You may find your answer there

Hey, You can do a search on the forum for paediatricians and you will have lots of opinions. My 2 personal favourites are Dr Rais Ahmed at Kids First - 04 348 5437 he was our paed years ago and now he has come back....all I can say that he detected a problem with my daughter (which thanks to him is all resolved) will I was still pregnant just by looking at the ultrasound very carefully...has practised in the UK Dr Ejaz Wassim at NorthWest Clinic - 04 330 7117. Has been our paed during Dr Rais's absence (he left for a few years and has come back to dubai. Very very practical and good....has practised in the UK as well Yes, I really am torn between who to go to as both are GREAT.

I recently bought the Groupon offer in June for Atlanta Vision as one of my cousins had his surgery there. I got mine done in August. However the standard lasik was not sufficient for me and I had to pay an additional AED 3,000 (plus AED 4,950 for both eyes) for my surgery. Another cousin of mine did not need any specialised treatment and he managed to have his surgery within the AED4,950 offer. I highly recommend Atlanta Vision. In our family, there are now 3 people who have had their surgery there (one was around 7 years ago who actually recommended us this clinic), and it has been a great experience. There are 2 surgeons - Dr Syed Ashraf who comes from the US once the month for 2-3 days for surgery only and Dr Huda who is available at the clinic. I had my surgery with Dr Ashraf and could not have had a better experience .Without exagerration, I have perfect vision. Groupon had the same offer a week ago I think and it is worth it. This is not an advert...it just honest feedback. edited by SanRan on 05/10/2011

Dr Chantal lengama at Dr Nicolas & ASp in Marina is a great paediatric dentist....she is simply adorable. She has done a few procedures on my daughter (long story) but I could not have chosen anyone better. However, regarding the mouth ulcer, the dentist can hardly do anything about it. My daughter had the same and I was told to apply 'bonjela' (available over the counter) but was told by the dentist and pead that this is food related and we need to see what causes it, thats all.

I absolutely agree that Disney XD is in appropriate for younger kids - I have a 7 and 5 year old and I simply do not like the way the children speak. I have Disney XD on my TV and have successfully hidden this from my children till now!

Dear Aussie Pup....you sound like you are living my experience...I had the same thing 2 months ago in Meadows 2. Solution - I had to get most of the things fixed myself. Some are still lingering to be fixed.... When we saw the house, there was no electricity or water so we gave the LL a snag list and said we will check the other items when there is elec and water. When we went back to him for broken taps and leeking showers (my shower rod fell on my head which I couldnt check if there was no water pressure)....and he said you have moved in and now its your problem. The only difference here is that you have an agent and there is reason they are earning agency fees...make sure you make them responsible for all this becos the owner probably does not care...
