Hi Ladies, gents & fellow Dubaiuns .... Just recently moved to Dubai & I've talked my son & his wife to do the same.. & to be honest the trips to the uk are exhausting & depressing now as I see better life here now.... However finding it all a bit overwhelming :( I'm in the process of business set up which is a drama in itself.... However, the question is... My son is fresh out of the military & due to arrive here... Does anyone please know any recruitment agencies/companies employing ex military & or better still as I know it's ' not what you know but who u know ' here ... Where do military or ex pats drink/ socialize as realize meeting lads in the pub he's gotta as much chance if not more of meeting people/ contacts here :) Thanks in advance & any help at all is greatly appreciated :) I am an ex military Wife and have several friends who are also ex military Most of them are my age ( Over 40) and married with kids. Most of them work or did work for the government in Abu Dhabi however these roles are very scarce, usually only open to ex SNCO's and Officers. Many of them were made redundant last year.( Around 30 of them) A lot of them hang out in Fibber Mageees but to be honest they all family men so aren't usually propping up the bar. Jobs here for ex military are not easy to find it took me over a year to find my ex OH a role. Security isn't a huge issue here and most of security roles are filled by non Westerners. My friends got their roles through the old boys network ( not what you know but who you know) There was a huge government program employing them three years ago but they Emiratised it and they too were made redundant (in the hundreds) Networking is the only way unless he has specific technical or senior management experience coupled with a degree in said industry. Good Luck :-) edited by sarahlou123 on 09/03/2014

Hi ladies, does anyone have experience with Dr Dany Kayle? In particular which rhinoplasty? I have surgery booked in next month with Dr Khan but I'm not completely convinced with him. Any advice? I used Jafar Khan for another procedure and wouldn't hesitate to use him again I shopped around when I had my procedure done and preferred him My whole experience from beginning to end was wonderful :-)

I also googled Paul Carrack, and was happy to read who he is. I read yesterday, that John Mayall will be doing concerts this year in U.K. as he is touching 80!!! What a concert that would be if Eric Clapton joined him. I love this man. I grew up listening to him sing How long has this been going on ( Singing at the top of my voice) He was brilliant and it was almost worth going to see him alone :) We were lucky and had a great vantage point, slightly higher than the people just in front, but I honestly could have cheerfully have murdered the people behind us. If looks could have killed ;) I went to see Bruno Mars here and there were 4 guys in front of us getting hammered, dancing and waving their cigarettes around in a packed crowd with kids dancing. I ended up saying something as felt there would be a cigarette mishap. I got a mouthful but thankfully a few Dads stepped in and told them to go away quietly. There is always someone isn't there?

Brilliant night, apart from the fact I nearly murdered an American standing behind me. He talked at the top of his voice all through the concert and during the acoustic set I was ready to do time if DH had let me strangle him. Why oh why do people go to see amazing performers like this, if all they want to do is have a drink and talk. There are places for that and any sort of performance is not the right place. I agree and don't get me started on people who as soon as a song comes on holds their Ipad up for the entire concert blocking your view.

Have been trying to work out how exactly this is done so if any of you know please help me with some advice! :-) I need UK certificates attested. I will be going back to the UK for a holiday later this year so I can get this done there as I am sure it will be cheaper? Which stamps exactly do I need to make these valid for UAE visa requirements? As far as I know I need a UK solicitor stamp + UAE embassy stamp from UK + MOFA stamp from Dubai. Is this right? For education certificates you need to do the following Notarised by a solicitor Foreign and common wealth office Milton Keynes ( always a backlog there) UAE embassy in london

Hi Asti, I haven't found that for the first month. Have mobile data on, but data roaming off and leave it on 3G not 4G. When I'm at home it picks up wireless and I turn the phone off at night. 100dhs per month seems very reasonable so far. Mine doesn't eat credit either. I rarely use all my data each month and I what's app a lot

When you say accompanied baggage does that mean in the cabin with us or in cargo? My only issue with that is we are staying with friends the last month we are here as our lease is up May 13 and we have to stay till kids finish exams. Anyway their kids are deathly afraid of dogs :( so my Lulu won't be able to stay. That is why she would be sent home a little early. But its definitely something to think about maybe I can head back with the dog and the hubby can stay with the kids oh I like that idea :) I am going to check with Alison and see what my options are! Thanks I doubt they would allow a dog in the cabin with you. It will go in the hold I imagine :-)

I have to agree with Sarah, I go to NBar and I am so happy there, the girls are lovely, the music is nice and I get 3 girls at one time - in and out in 45 minutes. Personally - I have never ever had a good manicure from anyone whilst in the UK. Not compared to what I've had here. In UK I had to pay for the manicure on top of the Gellish. Not amused ha and the therapist didn't stop talking the entire time. The girls at Tips and Toes chat to me otherwise I listen to my Ipod

Hello! I am just about to move to Dubai and am looking at the paperwork that is required! The 2 most complicated appear to be getting my marriage certificate and child's birth certificate legalised and attested in (a) the UAE Embassy in the coutry of origin (b) translated into Arabic and (c) attested by the Foreign Affairs Ministry in UAE. I am sure that loads of people must have been through this, can anyone advise on the easiest way to proceed, or recommend a company/individual who has done the same for them? Thanks! Both my colleagues did theirs whilst living in Dubai. Neither had them translated? They said they took them to one of the typing shops here and they did the rest ( Sent them to their respective countries) Maybe other posters can shed light on this Where did you get married? I thought you had to get it done in the Foreign and commonwealth office of the country you are from/married in not the UAE

I think you have to go to the court to receive your judgement. None of it makes sense and it doesn't seem to make any difference what the law states! The law states in our case that the landlord cannot rent the property out for 2 years after serving an eviction notice and can only evict a tenant if they themselves are moving in or selling etc....... New tenants moved in 2 weeks after we moved out. This makes a mockery of the law, I am so sorry to read that you lost, I can hardly believe it. Yes, it's hearing things like this that makes others not want to bother. :( Very unfair considering this is meant to be law!

I imagine so as there are mobile hairdressers I suppose it depends on ease of getting an appointment, cost etc I am happy with Tips and Toes as my Gellish manicure and pedicure is done in 45 minutes flat and it is cheaper than the UK ( Here you can have 3 people working on you at once) :-) Which one do you go to please, as I've heard that mine is closing at the end of this month and I need to find somewhere else :( I go to the Greens branch as live next door. You can always pop in for a cuppa or vino afterwards :-)

Not just maids. I am astonished by the number of single female professionals that I know who live way beyond their means and end up up to their ears in debt. One lady at work has just gone for a tummy tuck in Lebanon and has also just paid for her daughter to have cosmetic surgery but is complaining that she needs a salary advance and has been taking taxis to work for the last 2 months as her car is stuck in the police pound as she can't afford the fines. Another moved into an expensive apartment way out of her price range but had to borrow money for the deposit. Most of my friends have nothing to show in the way of savings for the last 5/6 years they've lived here despite being on pretty decent salaries. You can't teach someone how to spend or save their money but you can say no when they come asking for loans. I also know of many Females/Males in the same situation

I know this is a long shot but does anyone know of a LIVE OUT maid who is finishing with their current family and looking for a months work while they search for another job?... I believe that they get a grace period of 30 days when they finish with one family to look for work with another family until they need to be sent home. I only need a month from the 15th March as my son will start nursery end of April. Times would be 9am to 4pm Sunday to Thursday. It is illegal to do this so I doubt anyone will offer :-)

Hi, I'm 21 weeks pregnant and my bellybutton has started to stick out. This is my first pregnancy and this is probably a stupid question...but do you flaunt a pregnancy bellybutton or do you hide it ? Mine has just started to show through my maternity jeans and tops.I know this is probably the silliest thing to fret over (not that I am fretting:) ) but not really sure whether its acceptable to have it sticking out when I go to work and stuff cos I can't say I've noticed pregnant women's bellybuttons too much before. Do non-pregnant people find it...for lack of a better word...'disturbing'? :) If you do cover it up, do you get some kind of sticky-tape aid in the stores to cover it up or do you just wear looser clothes? My friend is due in 2 months and hers sticks out. I think it is cute and it doesn't disturb me at all. She wears loose fitting tops for work so you cannot see it and I have only noticed it when she wears tighter fitting clothes. I think most people notice the bump rather than the bb :-)

Thank you, I appreciate your answer. I read that parking for a month was like 2000 AED. He will need to be later in office so may traffic be ok ;-) My building ( Liberty House) has spaces for AED700 I think The traffic isn't bad at all and I get out easily enough at 5.30pm It only takes me 15 minutes to drive from The Greens so I am happy with that.

I work in an office next door to Limestone House Traffic isn't too bad here although it is reasonably heavy first thing in the morning and around 5.30pm-6.30pm. Car parking isn't the best and it is mostly paid. It isn't cheap either. The cost is around AED20 for the full day ( 8am-6pm) There used to be a sandpit opposite my office that people parked in for free however people started blocking people in rather than park normally and the police cordoned it off It is handy for the Metro ( Financial Center) and restaurants

I used previously Cellfix and they were good but apparently out of business. the shop in IBN mall is closed and noone is answering the phone on the other locations. Celmetro is asking 595 AED which I feel is a bit too much. Do you have any other suggestions? Read on here about Hotline in Satwa where are they located? Need to get the phone repaired:) TIA Have you tried Computer Plaza in Bur Dubai They sell and unlock phones so maybe they can also fix them I bought mine a few months ago and managed to break it within a week, luckily I had a 12 month cover to fix it. I don't know the name of the company that fixed it though as the insurers sorted it

I am invited for a costume party and I would need to buy a cheap lack wide long chiffon skirt ( 100AED around) I have been to Carrefour, Forever 21, River Island, Bershka, H&M, Splash, Max, Kotton, Where es can I look? Well since we are on it I am looking for a bigger black head too but think that I can find at a costume shop. Otherwise do you have nice easy costume ideas, I don't do short skirts:) Was thinking of a Spanish costume, gipsy I have been also to Mr. Ben:) Have you been to the party shop in the Blue Mall on Jumeriah Beach Road. I find them cheaper than Mr Ben and they have lots in Why not go as a flapper girl, the dresses are over the knee. I have a spare costume that has never been used and one of the cigarette holders.

I agree with the posters If you received it painted then I would retouch any scuff marks, holes etc my understanding is that you have to return it in the same condition you received it Paint is cheap and you can get your colour ( if it is the same magnolia shade as most apartments) at Jotun I wouldn't just spot touch up - you either have to paint a whole wall (ideally whole room) or nothing. You can often get lots of marks out with a cloth and water, just be careful not to scrub too hard. I have only ever touched up and 5 LL's have been happy with that I managed to get the same paint as what was on the wall although it is usually 8 coats deep from being painted over and over again ha

I find it strange that Reeva felt the need to lock the door of the bathroom in the first place .... I still lock the bathroom door at home when I go, I guess that's more out of habit tho. There are a lot of things that do not add up. First thing I would do if I thought an intruder was in the house is wake up DH, or assume it was him in the bathroom and check. Even if it hadn't been her, he was still aiming to kill whoever he thought was inside - not like it was an act of self defense. Also I read the trajectory of the bullets doesn't even match with his story - he says he didn't have his prosthetic legs on, but yet the bullets were shot from a downward angle. The whole thing doesn't quite add up. edited by desertrose83 on 05/03/2014 I close the door but I wouldn't lock it and they asked him why he left the balcony doors open if he was worried about burglars.
