Hi all, wanted to book airline tickets for Eid but unfortunately my husbands' work (private sector) hasn't informed him of the exact dates other than it may be October 14-16 which is midweek. The last time this apparently happened in 2010 the government also gave Thursday off leading to a long weekend. Any idea when the government announces it. Considering the upcoming eid is fixed (and not dependent on the moon sighting) i would've thought there would be a fixed set of dates already. Thanks edited by mbads on 16/09/2013 usually about a week before and it announced in the newspapers It is rarely done a month in advance :-( My calendar which usually predicts the correct days says 15th 16th 17th

Some areas of JLT do monthly as does Tecom Both my friends have large studios for around AED40,000 payable by 12 cheques They did liaise directly with a landlord though One is in Icon 2 the other Madison at Tecom The icon one has a separate bedroom but no door therefore it is classed as a studio

Hi pinks: I definitely will give Chamomile a try, I do like it anyhow, I agree some Cranberry supplements irritate the bladder lining. I go onto the COB Foundation in Birmingham UK & get some advice there, however, many of the recommended cures are not available in Dubai. Hi ccki : I am going to give the rice liquid a try too, I sometimes do the same with the Barley & drink the liquid from the barley, however, I think I should take it more frequent to get some results. Hi Sugar n Spice : you are right this problem controls your life, I have suffered for many years now. I have never been prescribed Trimethoprim, but have heard of it. The Prophylaxis I was give was Uvamin 100mg, once in the evening only, however, it seems it hasn't helped as the test results which came through today the infection is still there, now the doctor is putting me on Augmentin. It seems Bladder Infections are so difficult to get rid of. Like yourself I don't know anyone here who suffers from this problem. Sometimes us ladies suffer in silence though. Thank you ladies..... I suffered with it when I first came here. Trimethoprim was the only thing that worked and I bought it over the counter at the pharmacy.

A/C is covered but he is now suggesting he puts up rent OR we pay our own Dewa and Du. Just wondered if anyone might be able to suggest an approx cost for one bed apt, basic tv package, broadband. Thanks, in anticipation. X My DEWA costs no more than 480 even in the Summer months and most of that is housing! I do work all day though and only have it on at nights and weekends I am in the Greens too

Hi ladies, my sons nursery has another outbreak of HFMD. Last time he caught it and suffered terribly, i thought u could only catch it once, but now i find out thats not the case? Furthermore, is it normal for regular outbreaks at nursery? this is the 3rd outbreak in about 3-4months. At which point do i become concerned its the nursery (which to date ive been very happy with, bar the number of sniffles and HFM - but i guess thats normal) and not the norm? any advise please anyone? thanks! It is common during the Summer and Autumn months and because it is caught from mucus, saliva and faecal matter of an infected person can be very common in infants Unless the nursery can identify the source of the infected person and treat them before the others catch it I imagine it is difficult to contain. A child may not display symptoms immediately therefore can infect others much like chicken pox and head lice My friends Son has recently had it and the nursery she works in has outbreaks of it alot

I pulled mine off twice in 2 days Those concrete separaters in the car parks grrr ( my fault really) Yes, that was our back bumper courtesy of my husband. I hate to admit how I damaged the front.....I was trying to teach my daughter who was late for school a lesson. I jumped in the car with my other child and as quickly as I could pulled out of the garage to pretend I was leaving her....reversing at speed straight into husband's car. Karma. The guys at the garage were wetting themselves laughing when I went there to have it repaired for the 2nd time! Hope you and DD were okay. Yes that is Karma!

Hi Ladies, Here is tricky one.. Registration on my car expired when we were away on holidays. I wanted to do it before we leave but things happened and i had to go earlier than expected. However i managed to get my car insured... Now, i just came back, went for small grocery shopping and bang, some lady bumped into my car. She admitted her fault, and i received "the green paper". My question now... What do i do?? Shall i get my car repaired first, and will this be possible without rego? Or shall i try to register it first, but doubt it will pass... It has a scratch ( not too big) and slight dent on the side... Help! My bumper was hanging on when I had it registered ( don't ask) registration do not look at bumps unless the wing is hanging off etc

Thanks Ladies for confirming what I thought. It really was a bolt from the blue, we've been very good tenants (even though we do say so ourselves) and I never thought it would happen to us. But, he's thinking he can probably get an additional 40K instead of less than 10, which is what the rental calculator says. The only dilemma now is, do we bite the bullet and try and find somewhere else now, which aggrieves me somewhat, or, when we have to find somewhere at the end of next year, if the bubble doesn't burst, will we end up having to fork out even more rent than we would if we moved now??? Oh, what a kerfuffle. I would demand the 12 months out of principle as moving now could be costly and I bet the rents drop again in 12 months as they cannot remain as they are. A lot can change in 12 months and he may just be trying it on. my friend went through the same thing and she quoted the law so he backed down, she actually met with him after this and he said he wanted her to stay and he won't ask her to leave after the 12 months are up. I think he was just trying it on and when she pushed back he let it go Quote the law at him it usually works Good luck!

Yes I understand we should adjust our money purse and also adapt the changing circumstances, but shouldn't the govt or the concerned authorities step in when the population in general is unhappy about the rising expenses. I wonder if they even are aware of these supermarkets increasing the prices randomly. I think that the government is aware. Every so often a big sign is put up outside supermarkets by the relevant authorities stating what the prices of things are or should be. But those things are mainly staples and not luxury foods, under which items from the UK would be classified... What I find amusing is different areas of Dubai charge different prices on goods Some cheaper some more expensive. They should not be allowed to do this!

Hello everyone. My husband and I will be moving from the UK around Christmas when he will take up a post in Abu Dhabi. Our two boys are grown up and won't be joining us. I am 50 years old and worked for 32years with a large Utilities company before being made redundant last year. I was wondering if anyone could suggest where I could start looking for work in Abu Dhabi. Full or part time, permanent or temporary ... Just something to get me involved and integrating quickly. I called them a few weeks back as the water heater in my bathroom was leaking Water was pouring through the ceiling and at 6pm when I call they said we cannot come out till 10pm as they have jobs up till then, I waited, no-one came at 10pm so I called back, 11pm, 12pm so I rang and cancelled as I had found someone else I was told well we opened the job so you will have to pay call out. You can imagine what I said to them! cheeky so and so's

Due to countries printing money to get themselves out of the debt crisis, you can expect a steep rise in inflation, particularly in countries tied to the US dollar, like the UAE. That is why food prices are rising so fast, house prices and rent as well. Aadams, can you explain why this is so? I just looked at the US inflation rate and it's an incredibly low 2% right now. If we're tied to the US Dollar, how come it would impact us more here in UAE? 2% is very low???

Has anyone tried both these tailors in Bur Dubai (Meena Bazar) by any chance? I want to get maxi dresses made and was told that they're really good with western outfits. They're supposedly quite reasonable at Dhs150 per dress. Just want to know which of these two would be a better choice, TIA I haven't but let me know how you get on as I have some material bought from the UK to make maxis. Ladies, Need some advice. I sent my car in for a service last Sunday and spent a fortune on a service and DH picked it up on Wednesday. On Wednesday evening, as I was going out, the car began making an awful noise and so I returned the car on Thursday morning. Another few thousand Dirhams later, and I went to fetch my car today. Now my entire radio LCD screen is black. When I questioned them about it, they say that this is due to the heat and not their fault. I'm absolutely furious that each time I have got it back from them, there has been another problem. I don't even know how to begin fighting this... Try the municipality place that deals with complaints I cant for the life of me remember the name of it. Was this at a dealers or garage? OP help

Skype.com isn't blocked anymore, so you should be able to download it without any issues. You can also get it from sites like download.com, without any need for a VPN. I use it for Skype to Skype calls, which are free and don't require a VPN. I used to also use it for Skype to Mobile/Landline, which you had to pay for. You also had to use a VPN for this, but that might have changed (I've not tried it for about 2 years). edited by HereComesTheSun on 10/09/2013 I'm sure it hasn't changed as my hubs always uses it from his laptop (no vpn) glad to know its not blocked anymore...wonder how long it will last I use it all the time, it can be a pain with the connection and video though

Hello EW ladies - Does anyone have any further info on the Will.i.am concert on 26/9 -- I read somewhere that it's a DJ set but the ticket site says he is performing -- two quite different things at AED 360 for the cheap tickets. Also, Selena Gomez: anyone going? Good for the kids? I haven't attended any shows at DWTC so don't know what to expect. Thanks for any insight! DWTC is a good venue I have seen many bands there Easy to get to, park or get the metro I know nothing about the concert though as not a fan of either of the artists

Thread worms? never heard of that but will investigate. My little one is too small to share with him. He loves sitting on the computer which I've banned, he's only allowed it once he sleeps through the night. I tried rewarding him but he is still waking up. Going a bit crazy to be honest as it will effect his work at school. If he has threadworms he will be scratching his bottom a lot

Hiya, Firstly, before i start I want to say thank you in advance for any help and comments as i really am confused... Our tenancy contract will expire on 12 Jan, and as we approach the 90 day mark, I have a couple of questions from all you more experienced ladies out there.. 1. How do I know if my contract is renewable or not? The phrase 'non-renewable' doesnt appear anywhere in the contract, however point 2 in the conditions states "renewal of tenancy is at the discretion of the landlord" and point 3 states "the contract is valid up to the end of the specified period after which it is considered null and void" 2. What is the 90 day period for? Again my contract doesn't say anything about 90 days. 3. Assuming this is a renewable contract based on condition number 2, do we have to notify the landlord that we intend to stay for another year? And finally, just to make this all a little bit more difficult is that our Landlord put the property up for sale -without notifying us, a few months ago, however his asking price is around 1million over the average selling prices for similar villas in my area, which makes me think that he wants it on the market but doesnt actually want to sell it? Because of this I am assuming he is unlikely to want to allow us to stay another year and will therefore want us out at the end of our first year. So i suppose my question is 2 fold, (A) does he have to provide me with 12 months notice from the end of our current contract? (B) Would having the villa up for sale increase his chances of winning at a rent committee because he can prove he wants to sell? If it doesn't state "non renewable" then you are entitled to stay The 3 months are for any changes that fall within the rental committee law/yours and the LL agreement If he wants to increase the rent then it has to fall within the rental calculator amount if ii hasn't changed no increase If he wants you out he has to give it in writing ( notarized) and you will get a further 12 months from end of current contract There are so many posts about this and regardless of him selling it he has to give you the 12 months by law. Contact the rent committee for further clarification

Ladies did anyone figure out the best place to get Keratin/ Kerastraight treatment done. If I am looking for something a little permanent then i guess my option would be Kerastraight. Please advice I have super frizyy hair and get a blow dry done once a week! Kerastraight. Trevor Sorbie hairdresser to the stars in the UK recommends it It wont make your hair bone straight as only the chemical one can do that and it contains nasty products. Call Donna at Roots Barsha British hairdresser She has done it on many of my friends frizzy hair and it looks good

How come you all don't vaccinate your children against chicken pox? It's easy and chicken pox is horrible! Many people don't like to pump their children full of vaccines - there is some nasty nasty stuff used in them. Plus they are no guarantee of preventing the illnesses either. The chicken pox vaccine does not prevent you getting chicken pox, it just makes it milder I believe the US vaccinate but the UK does not
