Hello does anyone know who I can approach to help us get our security deposit back. We moved out three months ago and was promised refund after inspection. That was three months ago and now he's not responding at all to any emails. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you. I would speak to the Rent Committee. There seems to be a spate of this happening at present Good Luck!

Apparently there is a place in the Beach Center that does good rates if you're changing quite large amounts. Never been though afraid I can't give more details They are much better than the UK and the pound isn't doing too great at the mo

The cord which was is long go tangled up underneath and the wires are exposed in the cord If it wasn't so near to the hoover I would shorten the cord and change the plug myself but it is right at the end where the cord goes into the hoover if that makes sense

I would honestly say, don't rush around looking for something as then you're least likely to find it. In my past experience, when you stop looknig and just concentrate on yourself and get on with things, then other elements naturally come into your life. A year is nothing to get over a long term relationship. Give yourself some time, do the things you enjoy doing, stop worrying and make YOURSELF happy. Our lives really shouldn't revolve around guys. I agree completely with this post!

I am going back to work for the first time in 3 years. Where are your favorite places to shop for business casual clothing? I have had a few dresses and jackets from Matalan of all places All lined and still going strong after 2 years I also second M&S and Debenhams has their own range at the back of the store next to Evans Bought reasonably priced skirts and tops from there also

Only ever dealt with a LL direct and have never had to pay a fee? The fee is for the agency finding you a property and the LL does not see a penny of this All I have ever been charged by the LL is the deposit

SI did micro rings which were fine i have keratin ones in now and my hairdresser did them at my house and i only paid 1200 for 50 which is good for Dubai as there arent many distributors which drives the cost up I dont know of many other places sorry

I have had SI do them 4 times and apart from losing the odd few they have lasted 4 months before they had to come out. I usually lost 5 0r 6 in the 1st week I have Great Lengths ones in at the mo and it has been a week and havent lost one so far These are the only 2 places i would have do them here

I only ever see the big multinational or semi gov companies pay it and usually for up to 3 kids Many smaller private companies do not give schooling at all I doubt you will get a discount at a school here as I imagine the majority struggle to pay fees Good Luck!

Ask for the previous tenants bill copy from your LL I always ask for a copy of this as sometimes you can get caught out paying theirs! I have to provide it to the LL to prove I have paid when I leave a property therefore you should see a copy Good Luck!

Hello everybody. My family and I arrived in Dubai one week ago. We are host in JBR Bahar 1. We soon noticed a strange movement in the house and found many cockroaches in the cupboard below the sink. The day after we found many of them all around the kitchen and we called for pest control. The guy came yesterday and the problem may be solved for the moment, but he said that this problem is common in JBR in this period. Is it true? I am looking for an apartment here and if there is this problem I will look somewhere else. Is any of you living in JBR? Do you have the same problem? How do you handle it? Thanks, Michela I was told when when a lot of buildings were being built they did not clear all debris and rubbish from the holes therefore it became a breeding ground for creepy crawlies

Could someone please explain exactly what a labor card is and the difference between the card and a work visa? I'm in a similar situation as my husband can remain my sponsor. We all have a labor card ( I have one and a work visa) If you are single then you require both or if you cannot go onto your Husbands/Fathers visa as the company do not want this or certain Freezones do not allow it then you need both If you are married and going onto Husbands or Fathers visa then you need a labor card as you are already sponsored by your Spouse/Father I hope this makes sense

It would be so nice to have my OWN money and a little nest egg for just in case (you don't know what is around the corner) All to often I am reminded that DH provides this life here which enables me to spend lots of time with our children. I am of course grateful and he will only throw it out there during an argument or when he is stressed with work!! So it would be nice to be able to use my money for things?!?! I heard on the radio this morning that part-time work is now legal here in the private sector... could be a start of a new wave of jobs. I have sent my CV to a few companies so lets see what happens. I might not even get a job?!?! part time work has always been legal in the private sector. You probably heard or read about a ruling being made for working part time in the government sector as that has been in the news recently. I rarely see part time roles they are like unicorns ;-)

First of all it depends if you need to. If you can get by on your husband's salary and you don't have to, then why would you? Maybe because one can't rely on ones husband's salary 100% of the time? How many scenarios do we see right here on EW where a lady is in an already difficult marital situation that was made a lot worse by the fact that she had given up work to take care of their kids, put her trust in her husband and was now facing difficult choices because of the financial implications that her giving up work had later down the line? Call me a cynic but with the divorce rate these days, personally I'd rather plan for the worst than hope for the best... Also, children mature eventually and it's very hard to get a decent job at 45+ if you've been out of the job market for 10 or 15 years. It's hard in Dubai that it's full time or nothing, maybe that's partially why we seem to see this kind of situation so often here? Is there any way that you can start your own mini-business and work part time or does your line of work only allow you to work in a company? Could you work for a smaller, newer company that is more likely to require part-time staff or offer you more flexibility? I'm doing arabic classes soon for my brain activation/social times. I 100% agree with you Celveticca. There have been so many threads on here over the last year where wives have been forced to return home because hubby woke up one day and suddenly decided the marriage was over, and with no income of their own there has been no other option but to leave. So yes I am cynical too and like to earn my own money, have a nest egg and even if the marriage is fine, what if hubby loses his job (have been in this situation too). Nothing makes me prouder than being able to provide for my family and in fact, working helped me get through PND as I felt like a normal human being again who was good at my work, since I felt rubbish as a mother! I know now that's not true but I was back in my comfort zone. OP whatever you decide good luck x When I was married to my Ex BH my Dad told me to have my own little nest egg because you never know what could happen in the future. Boy was he right and I am glad I listened to him

Adsa travel ! seriously ! iF you are going to Manchester then qatar airways. Its a one hour stop over in Doha. Etihad have increased their prices I think and ive now flown EK because they ended up being cheaper to Manchester than Etihad. For Heathrow - Royal Brunai.. its a dry flight though. somone at work is flying via istanbul with Pegasus airlines and they got a ticket to heathrow for 2300 aed ! total flight time 18 hours ! madness It wasn't for me this time, it worked out the same as Etihad and EK :-(

We all have liquor licenses so that wouldn't be an issue, I just wasn't sure as we wouldn't technically be within our villa/garden You must google and read the law about drinking or get drunk in public places :) I depends on your neighbours I used to live in a compound and my next door neighbor was a judge on one side and a policeman on the other so I would not of dared have alcohol on display It is such a tricky one as I imagine if you are not noisy and disturbing anyone you could get away with it but if the police are called for a any reason then it gets difficult

Ac not working properly, door won't open due to broken lock, toilet leaking on floor.....who is responsible to pay for these? We have only been in property 3 weeks and landlord is ignoring calls/emails. My husband said we should just pay but I think it should be the landlords responsibility. Is there any law regarding this, I'm sick of paying out 1000's of dirham when I don't think it's fair. On hindsight and because of problems in the past I send a list of maintenance issues to the LL before I sign the contract and hand over the cheques or I ask to walk around with them at point of signing and point out the problems My LL pays for all maintenance. When I moved in the fly screen was broken, dishwasher on the blink. I paid for them to be fixed and claimed it back from her Small jobs that cost less than 200 I do not bother claiming back

Hi Ladies, We're just about to move into a villa within a compound and hoping that we could have a few drinks around the pool while the kids play at the weekend but not sure if this is actually allowed? Hello In order to drink legally within your own home you need a valid alcohol licence It is illegal to serve your guests who do not have a licence as they will not be covered should anyone ring the Police. I imagine a lot of people do this however it depends if a neighbor takes offence and calls the police

I have both a mini cooper and a 4x4. I wouldn't say one's any safer than the other. I've seen plenty of 4x4s over the years on their side and on roof's where drivers just don't know how to handle them. The mini has such a nice acceleration on it (i drive a manual mini), that i find if there are idiots around I can bit a little nippy change lanes and get out of their way. I can't do that kind of inner-city driving in my 4x4. The other amazing benefit of a mini that hasn't been mentioned here is the parking! My little cooper nips into any space in any mall. :) I don't service my mini with AGMC, I use a private garage. Unless a mini is hit by a 4x4. I doubt there would be much damage if it were the other way around I don't drive a 4x4 but can understand why people feel safer in them.

Emails have been going back and forward for over a month now and they still not backing down on the rent increase.......... We r currently paying 180k for a 5 bed villa in Jumeriah and have been in villa for 2 yrs. they send rent renewal to us on 10 th July and tendency runs out on 5 th oct with an increase of 20k. Despite us telling them over and over that 88 days is under the 90 day allowed period for notice of increase they say they have given us plenty of notice. RERA calculator still does not show our renewal date but going by latest date it does show it still says no increase. They say rera calculator is a guideline and not law and a rise is perfectly appropriate for them to imply. They have come back now saying only a 10 k rise. If we go to the rent committee and open a case how likely r we to win? How much does it cost to open a case? We can't really afford to pay the increase plus the costs if we lose. Really don't want to move either as it will cost us the 20k increase in deposits etc. really feel like we r banging our heads against a wall with asteco grrrrrrrrrrr :-((( Hello The rent committee are very fair and most people I know have won their case, personally I would go and see them

Oh, that's strange as several of my FB friends said that their favs were the orange and strawberry ones...maybe it's a British thing, lol...Do they actually do surveys here where they ask people's preferences?...maybe they do...all I know is that the current M. Eastern QS selection is rubbish and all the (limited) flavours seem to be similar...at least put some variety in the tin! When we were small it was always the parents that liked orange and strawberry We hated them and use to eat all the toffee ones

Oh nooooo!! So I was probably better off leaving the reservation for Tuesday night then. If EID falls on Thursday then it will be dry from Wednesday at 7pm to Thursday at 7pm It will be 24 hours before EID is officially called so all restaurants, bars etc cannot make reservations around this time as they do not know when it will be announced

I'm sure this may not help, but, when I was in transit in Paris, they wouldn't let fluids thru!!! Really mind boggling on how duty free have any sales!!! I was there at Xmas and they took shampoo, conditioners and any purchased liquids from Dubai DF off the lady in front of me I was told not to take anything from DF through in transit as it would be taken off me
