Just yesterday I noticed some brownie-yellow gunk at the bottom of our BRITA jug that I have been using to filter water here. Never saw this in UK... My question: is it safe to drink tap water in Dubai? I dont fall for these huge gallons of watercoolers delievered, noone knows whats in that water either. And I guess they monitor tap water quality in Dubai quite well but am baffled by this new brown residue water leaves.... Could it be something to do with pipes, etc? I think it is safe however I can tell the difference in the taste when I have my 10,000 cups of tea if it is from the tap. As the above posters say it depends on how clean your pipes are I use bottled for tea/coffee and to water my friends pets when they come round. For everything else I use bottled

You post a photo on facebook of your car temperature gauge saying 50. LIKE :-) All the fella's at work come in with massive hangovers 'cos they've sent their wifeys home for the summer. The Summer Bachelors were out in force at the weekend ;-) I hope nobody got harassed? My friends and I always suss them out when they tell us where they live haha 2 flirty guys said Meadows and Ranches to which we replied Wife and kids away. They both looked very sheepish and wandered off

Sakhifa are you really saying just because there are *staff* to do it for you means you can't do it yourself? Yes it does create a queue because the till person has to scan the items, take the payment and then pack the shopping while the spoilt brat stands there staring gormlessly at her...! I don't think the cashier is there to do it for us. If there is nobody to pack my groceries because there is someone with a lot more stuff than me, I will do it myself. I wonder how some ladies here will cope in UK or Holland where lot of the tills have been replaced by scan machines. Imagine having to both scan AND pack AND process your own payment.. There would be uproar however they are not in Europe ;-) I feel at TNT coming on

Seriously, I'm many of us can remember times when we were harassed or approached, regardless if we have blonde hair or not! But unless you're going to report it and/or defend yourself, what is the point of these whiny threads? Like. I agree in most parts of the world they would approach you to rob or hurt you I feel very safe here and yes there will be small proportion of men who are crude however report it or tell them to sod off

I have to agree with MrsPineapples about people giving those who look fit and well filthy looks for waiting for a packer to assist, because they cannot. For those who stare daggers at you when you get in an elevator when they think that you could have used the escalator. As for queue jumping, perhaps their eyes are not up to par. jk, seriously, that one gets me too. On a side, I wish that C4 had a queue for cash/2 items and that would take a load of pressure off. The people I speak of work in my building and are able bodied.( I see many of them in the gym and throwing themselves round a dancefloor on the weekend) I find it is usually a loaf and a packet of cigarettes that they cannot be bothered packing themselves. But why does that matter if they're able-bodied or not? There are packers at the check-out line for a reason...that's what they're paid to do. Whether or not you have a cart-full or a pack of gum, it shouldn't matter. If you read my original post we were taking about a huge queue taking forever and people not packing their own items when there is no packer there and the cashier has to do it. Again, the answer is the same. How long does it take to pack a "loaf and a packet of cigarettes"?? Is that really the cause of the queue? Please. I am not going to argue with you. I am entitled to my opinion as you are and lets leave it at that :-)

Thanks SL this sounds fab, but I am wary unless someone who has tried them can say they know what they are doing. I hope this is the case as it sounds very convenient. just give them something little to do and you can test them yourself. As in, give them proper trousers and get back little shorts? Yes thats what I am wary of. Haha maxi dress becomes a mini

How can you say you cannot support someone because you think he is a grimacing, gurning, ungracious lout. He is a brilliant tennis player, forget his nationality and apart from that one comment, taken completely out of context, he has always flown the flag for Britain. I wish folk, and I count friends in this statement, would get over the nationality thing and move on, it is pathetic. He cannot even comment on his Scottish roots now in case it causes a melt down in the media. Focus on the sport people, he trounced Novak today showcasing brilliant tennis, no argument. Just because he is not a 'golden boy', is not comfortable in front of the press, does that make him poor amabassador? Take an hour out of your day and watch the documentary, do a bit of research and see what it takes to be number 2 in the world (yes, number 2!!) and then come back and say he has no flair and less style. Throw in the expectation of the nation and consider the pressure he is under. Also remind yourself what he does for charity, maybe not front page news but he donated all his winnings at Queens for Royal Marsden hospital in support of cancer research. Sorry, for the rant but I am sick and fed up of folk lambasting this talented player, you should be proud of the fact he is actually a ****** good player and what a match we witnessed tonight. Completely agree. Have been a huge Murray fan for years and am so proud of him for the effort and composure he showed yesterday. Have never really understood what all the 'Andy bashing' has been about over the years (apart from the 'joke' with Henman, which the press completely blew out of proportion.) He's a tennis player, not an 'OK' celebrity, can't we just celebrate how good he is at tennis instead of complaining that he doesn't smile??? ......................and obviously he's Scottish!! lol Rugby then Tennis I am a very proud Brit today :-)

Just wanted to add my eldest did start nursery in the UK in the local scout hut - a charity run pre school group - perhaps I'd had my expectations set already! Ours was in an annex next to the church hall. It still exists and all my nieces and nephews went there. Fond memories and I volunteered there for a short while. It was singing, reading and painting

Haven't seen anything recent about this on here, has anyone had it done (esp reviews of TipsnToes)...? I had eyelash extensions once and they were horrid for my eyelashes, never again, but am going on holiday and fancy the idea of tinting - online reviews a bit mixed so feedback would be fab...thanks! Had eyelash extensions there ( Drove me mad and I pulled most of them out) Had tinting with no problems at all :-)

We have just been by the car dealership told that our Ford explorer needs a bunch of work done on the air conditioning system. I would like a second opinion and second price estimate. Can anyone suggest a reliable and reasonably priced automotive repair place? I have heard that AAA is good, can anyone confirm? Many thanks. I have used AAA for minor repairs and servicing as they are so much cheaper and quicker than VW Never had any problems. There is a Scottish guy there I dealt with but I do not remember his name

When I first moved here I was stared at for being so fair and I have the tendency to blush a lot so always look red. Never get hassled now, I don't make eye contact when out and about in the malls and am oblivious to people staring. If they slow down in the car etc I just pull out my phone and that usually does the trick. No different to delivery drivers, bin men etc at home beeping at you and shouting when they drive past

Hi SarahLou So did you just buy a SIM-only deal for BB in the UK? And if I do that, will it work on my Dubai handset? And, if you have a UK SIM, and if you connect to the WiFi where you're staying, does that mean the data used over WiFi is not deducted from your monthly data allowance? Sorry to be so dense! I have had a British one from 2005 that I pop in I don't use BBM or WhatsApp when in UK as most friends call the landline or phone me directly My BB will not connect to the WIFi at home as it is a simple UK sim with no data plan I am sure Orange/Vodaphone etc can sell a UK pay as you go with bundles for BBM/Internet etc my Niece has one. My Dubai handset wasn't locked if that makes sense

hello I used to use Etisalat's 'global unlimited' plan for my BB while travelling, but they've recently stopped this and on my last trip I managed to spend AED 700 in about four days on data (even using the recommended 'data package') So can any ladies recommend how to use my Dubai-registered BB in the UK without it costing a fortune? Is it better to buy a SIM-only deal from the UK and pop it in my BB handset? Would that work? (I realise the number would be different, but...). Any advice received gratefully. What do you all do? I have a UK sim for mine as I ended up with a huge bill and you have to be on the plan to connect to WIFI worked out so much cheaper..

Yep, on series two. I like it although wouldn't say I love it. It's a bit different and I find it really interesting in terms of a snap shot of that time in the US. I don't find it particularly violent although that may be an indication of my general TV viewing habits. I believe it is based on a true story. Al Capone is in it! I will start it this weekend I am running out of series and the HBO ones are all pretty good Thanks

My issue isn't the coins themselves. Imagine standing at the back of a long grocery line, in which each and every person is asked for coins and then has to spend a minute or two or three hunting through the bottom of their bags (less organized than anondubai) for their spare dirhams - which adds at least ten minutes to the check out line. That is plain inefficient. And seriously annoying for the poor sap at the back (me). Or the people who cannot be bothered packing a few items off the belt, even though there is a cashier and no bag packer. I have to hold my tongue as they hold the lines up lazy so and so's

Whilst at the gynaecologist the other day, I saw a lady wearing the full burqa, gloves and veil going into my doctor's consultation rooms - an American male. She was obviously pregnant and on her own (of course, a nurse escorted her in). This made me wonder if 'men' are allowed to for want of a better word, privately examine Muslim ladies? Hope I have not offended by asking such a question! I would assume they would have to have a Female nurse present
