obviously none of you have tried to access any dodgy website then !! lol Could be wrong but I think OP means the screen that tells you that the site you have tried to log onto does not conform to UAE regulations... or are you both asking rhetorically ? ;) No to clarify, I keep getting the same message when i try to access the site the original poster is talking about! lol Is that the one with the big veiled lady wagging her finger? I get the DU standard one

He used to work in the french foreign legion. Thanks for any help! The Amiri guard are all ex senior military and the only way in is via the old boys network Bodyguards are usually from security companies in the UAE I think he will find it very difficult. He is best to contact the security and risk companies here however bear in mind most work on rotation to Afghanistan and Iraq and are not based in Dubai and they look for commercial experience

I am a leftie and do everything with my left hand He should adapt as he gets older. I know some people hold a pen and other implements in a strange way ( hand is curled over when they write) but most of the lefties in my family ( There are 4 of us) hold a pen the normal way

It can feel like the loneliest place on earth at times I used to live in a small expat community, knew everyone and we used to look out for each other. Dubai is not that way, however i have had some awful friends who were dropped and i have some fabulous friends whom i will be friends with in the long run. It all depends on how sociable you are and how good you are at weeding out the bad ones!

Hello again I hve contacted a few schools in Dubai from the UK and two have told me they have places and there is a registration fee. I haven't personally checked these schools out yet (which we will do on arrival) and we haven't found accommodation yet either. So my question is when do you start paying the registration fees or any other fees? I hear so much about the lack of school places so am I being overly cautious? I also don't want to pay 500Aed for each school and realise we don't want any of them! Any advice welcome x I think you have to pay to reserve a place ( AED500) and it is non refundable however if you choose said school it comes off the first term If you use the search bar above and put in school fees you may find lots of info on these queries

this is probably a daft question, but will metro/buses run as normal on a public holiday? I have visitors and they have asked me if everything will run as normal and I couldn't say for certain. Thank you They usually run as normal. I would ring the RTA ( Freephone number) just to double check

I have just recieved a cheque for BUPA medical insurance reimbursement. Can I pay this into my normal bank account through ATM machines? Slightly confused as cheque states "Payable at all Citibank Branches" my account isnt with citibank, therefore do I just call into a Citibank branch and exchange this for cash? TIA Call Citibank and ask first. I find them really helpful over the phone

Thanks for the reply! A lot of maids advertise on dubizzle and are willing to work after work hours. It does sound a little shady but I m not sure. Do you think employing one of these maids is legal? I don't want to get into unnecessary trouble. No these maids are not legal. They are most likely on someone else's visa, and that would mean the sponsor and you can get huge fines and maid will be deported. A friend told me they are clamping down on illegal maids. Her friends maid who is a live out and legal had her place raided by the police. They wanted to see all paperwork, passports and asked why they do not live with their madams. Thankfully she is legal but the others were taken to the police station

This reminds of of the lady who posted a year or two ago now (and apologies if she's still here) desperately asking for ready meals, as she'd just moved to Dubai and although she had been married for a while, she said she'd been serving up ready meals as home made and her husband had no idea she couldn't cook, and he was about to get a shock! I knew someone who did this in the UK She struggled as her husband was totally fooled and kept asking her what spices he should buy to recreate the wonderful "homemade" curries lol - he even bought her a voucher to some sort of foodie event as he thought she would be excited to learn more about spices LOL !! but unbelievable that the men can be so easily fooled - mine wouldn't be !! A friend of a friend did this for years haha

Ive had quite a few sun spots etc removed by Dr Khan at Aesthetics International. Although he is a plastic surgeon, not dermatologist, but I do believe he has mole mapping machines. Ive seen someone who was butchered here by a dermatologist removing a mole. If you are concerned about having a nice neat scar I would definately recommend Dr Khan. Check out their website :-) I had both removed in the UK, one on my face by a plastic surgeon, the one on my back by a Dermatologist. The scarring on my face was minimal wheras the one on my back is still visible 10 years later

Medical and flight are not part of the labor law. Holidays and gratuity are There is supposed to be a ruling at present regarding medical in Dubai however it has not been passed yet. Oh, I thought Medical had to be included in an employment contract (section 5 medical coverage) and according to the Federal Labour Law! Believe it or not it is not law in Dubai. Abu Dhabi yes however the National Newspaper reported that it may become law in the future

I would get of at the burjuman stop and go to the mall there and afterwards take a taxi to karama from there as it will be cheaper. None of the metro stops are really close to the karama shops and in this heat you really dont want to walk blocks. Keep in mind all Karama shops are closed between 2-4pm. The main ones i use are open in the afternoons. They probably need to now as they are not that busy anymore From Karama ( Al Rais station) to the fish market which is next to the shops is a 15 min walk

I think the mortgage-lending rules have changed here quite recently for ex-pats and now you have to be able to put a huge sum down as a deposit. But I could be wrong. I've quoogled and find that ex-pats need to put 25 to 30 per cent of the valuation of the property down before they can get a mortgage. edited by simpleasabc on 12/05/2013 I thought it was more than that? I could be wrong

With so many kids out of school and the summer full on (meaning many expats leaving for summer holidays) do you still think the roads will be so bad? I've had a few Ramadans here and didnt find traffic bad at all. Was it just me? No, it's not just you. I also agree. edited by AnonDubai on 12/05/2013 It isn't that it is really busy it is the way people drive. It is like a racetrack on SZR at key times

Its going to be my 4th year here during Ramadan and every year I read about the craziness on the roads and agressiveness and warnings not to venture out . Ill be honest .. never seen it .. Ive often gone out just before Iftar inceidently to attend Iftar and ive never seen it . The roads are busy, granted but I havnt seen any ' craziness' and ive actually seen worse during a thursday night in dubai ! Ramadan is a beautiful time of the year here. there is a sense of calm and serenity in the air and im invited to lots of Iftars which I love getting involved in. Makes you feel like you are part of a culture and living in the middle east. The only time i have seen mental drivers is SZR around 3-4pm. That is the only time i am tailgated, flashed at, cut up etc etc. I avoid the roads at that time at all cost. I do enjoy Ramadan for the same reasons as you do

Have you been? How was it? I missed out on tickets. I have to pay double or triple prices to get tickets off dubbizle. Wanted to take my DDs, but don't want to pay through the nose, if you it's not worth it. There are some threads about this is you use the search posts above I do not think many people felt it was worth paying and going

Thanks Sarah, but all the threads about this is renewable contracts....i never even knew you don't get a NON renewable...but the fact that the contract contradicts itself by stating at the bottom about the notice period, ,makes this a huge pain. I will hope for the best but I guess I have to be prepared to also loose out. Let this be a lesson to everyone signing a new contract: ALWAYS make sure it is renewable else u will throw money down the toilet because moving after a year is sooo costly!!!!!! Have you spoken to the rent committee? maybe they can help

Ive just returned from leave and found all the tickets sold out online - does anyone know where I can get tickets in person or does anyone have spare tickets to sell? Otherwise Im going to have to get there and wait outside and chance it, which is really not my preference. TIA :) There will not be any tickets on the door until after 11pm. Flo will be long finished As far as i am aware all the tickets are sold except some on Dubizzle that are very high in price People have been looking everywhere to no avail. I believe it is the last one before the Summer and that is why it has sold out

and they (the restaurant) serve your tortillas in a container with a lid that keeps them nice and soft, does anyone know if any stores sell these (pref in a larger size - the container that is) in Dubai? When making fajitas at home, I've tried the wrapping in foil/soft tissue/cling film route, but they just don't seem to work and by the time we're onto to tortilla number three, they start to go hard - not good for rolling up. I know, I know, first world problems, but any help would be much appreciated. I think i have seen these in Daiso

It is abhorrent in the UK that any person could be executed for any crime, no matter how bad. That is why she is expecting the British government and taxpayers to help her out. She hasn't lived in the UK for years. She was in Bali so surely subject to Indonesian law and all that entails? Why should tax payers pay the price? As I said, she is a British citizen so she is hoping her countrymen will be appalled by her sentence. Where was she living? Not appalled at all and the general public feel that if you break the law in said country then you should face the consequences. That is your opinion but I am sure there are lots of anti-death penalty Brits who will be on her side. Many readers of UK newspapers stated the same as i did, there maybe lots of anti-death penalty Brits on her side but one less dirty drug pusher in the world is fine by me

I won't be wasting my money on seeing her again..... I believe they are told to tone it down here. Nicki Minaj was warned as was Usher Rhianna has played here before so will know the score. She played on NYE one year and i dont believe she was late on

Wouldn't it be good if the organisers would fine them a percentage of the revenue if they are late? You could give them a 30min grace period and then start hitting them in the pockets! Watch the divas change their tune then. I doubt they would ever do that. Gaga refused to play here as her fee was too high They probably get paid upfront
