A 'witness' said: "He had a close shave with a bus and stood out like a sore thumb. A 19 year old in a white Lamborghini is hardly discreet." Where was this alleged 'witness'? London? Whoever it was obviously doesn't know Dubai because a 19-year-old in a Lamborghini is hardly unusual. ;) I remember the story of a prominent persons Son in Dubai who was young and had an accident in a Lambo. It caught on fire and i believe he died

I'm not sure if you mean a microphone as a toy for a toddler/child or a fake microphone that looks like a real microphone but sort of works? If you're looking for the former then how about this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/VTech-80-78703-Sing-Along-Microphone/dp/B0012XBP5S You can buy it from pretty much any of the toy stores that sell Vtech toys (ELC, Toys R Us, Hamleys, etc). I can't remember where I bought this for my daughter when she was younger, I think it may have been ELC. my Sisters kids drove me mad with these things haha ELC sold them Lol I can say the same for my kids! I bought it for my first daughter and she loved it, and it still works perfectly for my second daughter. Not great for the parents, but in comparison to other toys, this was definitely a better one that we could take out with us and it keeps the child entertained for longer than 2 minutes!! Do not get me started on the squeeky shoes, i think my Sis hid them eventually as they drove her mad haha

There is more leeway going to Oman, there is NO leeway at the airport. I know this because I had to pay 3,000dhs worth of overstay fines when I was changing jobs and went on holiday. You can always go to Immigration at Trade Centre and pay the fines there, think you can pay for visit visa too altho someone can clarify this. You can extend your VV there i paid AED500 for 30 days mind you that was over 6 years ago

What to do with them? I have over 800000 (those blue ones) of those airmiles UAE. I'd love a trip as I've been under a great deal of stress lately but I understand they are only usable for items - any suggestions. Have you been on their website and had a look :-) I did a while ago and there was stuff like ipads and stuff but nothing that I need.. I need relaxation - but judging from responses, it looks like they may have some more options so will check it out! TA They have several more options and holidays are on there. I have never seen Ipads although you can spend the money at Sharaf and other high street retailers

In short...our landlord is selling...he asked us months ago on paper if we wanna renew end of contract and we agreed and even agreed to a price.....now he sais we must move out as he is selling...the house will still be in his name at the end of our contract and we need to prepare cheques nOW so my question is, what leg do we have to stand on BECAUSE our contract looks the same as all standard contracts...[u'>however,[/u'> it sais in small this is a non renewable contract but then down below it sais according to RERA rules no 13 or something, that if he wish for us to move out, he has to give 12 months notice...so now I am super confused. Also, he said a week ago, "ok make the cheques out to him ' but we willh ave to change it once the new owner takes over so I am so confused and it is difficult to get hold of him...we only deal with his representative. Why cant things just be easy and straightforward ....there is alwaysssss issues with rental in Dubai. He has to give you 12 months notice from the end of your current contract He can only up the rent for the remainder of the contract and the further 12 months IF the rental calcualator stipulates this. The 12 months notice has to be in writing and notarised He cannot chuck you out at the end of your current contract nor part way through the next one This is LAW and you have rights. You can tell him all the above and if he doesnt listen threaten him with the rent committee. There has been countless threads on this and articles in the media Stand firm and not back down. ( I think this stands with non renewable) mine does not state this though

Surely it would be an insult to any charity to have second hand undies in the recycling bins? Bin them!!! Even new with labels I would be funny about wearing them. On the side of the Emaar ones i think it is specific about what you can donate I dont remember seeing it is okay to donate knickers and i certainly would not wear anyone elses yuk.

I use M&S and Nike I am an E Cup if that helps :-) Hi Sarah, I also used to buy M&S size E (they don't go any larger). When I was sized by TKD I was actually a 34FF!! The 34FF made a huge difference to my workouts in the gym, 'the girls' weren't flying all over any more but the biggest surprise is that I discovered I actually had a WAIST (covered previously by 'the girls'). What a huge difference. I have been measured at home and am a 34E M&S bras are the only ones that fit perfectly

Gregg's and a British Fish and Chip shop, oh a proper British Curry. Greggs has gone all upmarket in the North East, i have been watching a programme on it and they have re-fit all the stores! Everytime I go home, I have to have a sausage roll, cheese and onion pasty and a fresh cream donut!!!! maybe not at once, I crave them so bad over here. My mum lives next door to Gregg's, its cruel on me. They don't sell cold meats now, which I think is a good thing. I have sausage roll, pork pie, cheese and onion pasty and jam donut lol! Then chippy tea and chinese. My friends and family know exactly what i want when i go back!

Hi Els Can you let me know if you have now settled in Dubai? I am looking for some advice on getting hair extensions but the salons I have been to here for a consultation haven't filled me with much confidence. If you have set up shop, please let me kow. Thanks How many do you need and what do you want to pay? At home it is sooo much cheaper than here :-( My friend who rents a chair at Roots does them. I imagine they will work out cheaper than other salons. She had some put in her own hair and they look great. I have had them done 4 times in Dubai however paid a large amount for them

I know am gonna ge a lot of negative comments on my post but...here it is: What is Dubai missing? Is missing residents that try to enjoy and embrace what they have instead of complaining all the time of how better their home country is. We miss things we had home but we also have plenty here,so let's enjoy them. That doesn't mean Dubai is perfect, but is a young city with a lot going on so constructive suggestions are welcomed! We do embrace it, what is wrong with missing things from home? We are not saying our home country is better ( I for one do not think that) We can all dream and i remember being here years ago and missing Boots the Chemist and voila it appeared. The thread is a bit of fun that's all :-)

Hey ladies.... Trying to come up with a budget for our groceries. DH and I and LO (14 months) spend about 800 dirhams a week at Carrefour. Occasionally we do a Spinneys run for another 200 a week. Just curious what the average family is spending on groceries. Do you consider 4k a lot for groceries? Back home in Germany this would be considered a lot of money. But here, I feel I am just taking care of the minimum to live a moderately healthy lifestyle. Hi, interesting article in todays Daily Mail about how much people from different countries spend on groceries...according to article the Germany was t most expensive weekly shop! But I hear you...cant believe I spent 24 aed for some crumpets....in UK it would have cost a pound! And the price of the yougurt "frubes"...omg! I am new to Dubai but some items here...i actually miss my local Tesco! I spend a fortune on food much more than i would in Tescos :-(

When you complain about working mums being made to feel guilty do you ever consider that stay at home mums are sometimes made to feel inadequate, as if what we do isn't a worthy job just because we don't leave the house to do it .. ?? (not TDB necessarily, just in general) my Sister has been getting grief for years. She has never worked, does not need nor want to. Everybody makes different choices and SAHM do work they just do not get paid for it :-)

Don't see how mine and DH's financial circumstances has got anything to do with this. Once again, I'm being asked to justify my working when it has nothing to do with my question since baby would be asleep when and if we went out which would be the same if I worked or not. Am I supposed to sit by DD's crib watching her sleep every night because she is in nursery all day? Weird logic. I am hardly baring my soul here - I could dig out threads that would make the most openminded person blush. People discuss their husbands cheating, their intimate gynae problems and all sorts. I was never going to be a mumsy mum who sat in a floral Laura Ashley number, never wearing makeup and tutoring Tarquin and Persephone to get into Oxford aged 10. I'd rather be a fun mum who has a giggle with them. I want to look hot for my hubby, go to work as I love bantering with my colleagues and pulling in the b@con, and go out with my girlies every so often. I also want to take my baby to the zoo, do bedtime religiously, and play with her on her playmat. Being a mum doesn't mean being a martyr to domesticity - you don't win any prizes for being the world's best mum, they come in all shapes and sizes. Now you can catch me and DH having steak at Gaucho in a few months, I may even have a glass of red (clutches pearls). TDB, you are my complete hero!! all over this statement and right with you!!!!! Fantastic post! You can have it all :-)

I dont like to disrupt my sons routine at all and if we do we pay the consequences. I don't see why I should drag him out to get the chores/monthly groceries and such done? Once he is fast asleep me and DH go out and do everything we need/want to. Most nights it will be spot shopping for him but if the maid tells us hes fast asleep and has not been stirring we will take advantage of that and have some dinner out. I was raised the same way and I can tell you i appreciate my parents not lugging me around stupid o clock just because they want to go out and wont arrange adequate care at home. I agree, we could argue about all the small kids who are dragged around malls and up late during the school week. I babysat for my neice and nephews when they were both tiny and they loved Aunty time. That was in the days before mobile phones therefore if they woke and were distressed i had to call the restaurant or pub my Sis and BIL were in

Quinn10- You must think I'm the devil because once DS is fast asleep me and DH go shopping/eat out/drive every other night on the weekdays :O Devil Mummy love it! My parents went out often and there were 4 of us, we have all grown up well rounded, independant and happy. I loved it when Mum and Dad went out all dressed up. Someone will also disagree but really whose business is it and why should you care. As long as you are all happy then stuff other people's opinions :-)
