I know that Donna is away for 3 weeks from May 12th Aswell as a filter use the purple shampoo it helps stop your hair going the brassy colour within 2-3 weeks of colouring. If you swim in the pool make sure you rinse your hair off immediately and i tend not to wash my hair everyday here, i use Batiste dry shampoo as the water here dries mine out. Investing in non shop bought shampoos also help

Heys guys, ive just recently moved to Dubai from the UK and really dont know where to go get my haircut and coloured. Can anyone recommend a salon? thank you What nationality do you want and what is your hair colour Popular ones are Salon Ink Jumeriah Ted Morgan Palm and Motor City Donna at Roots in Barsha They specialise in all colours and are all British/Irish/Australian hairdressers hi saralou, thanks for the advice. ive heard a lot of good things about ted morgan so think i will give them a try. there are just so many salons in dubai, its hard to find a good one that is reasonably priced! I used to go to Salon Ink however it gets busy and can be pricey but they are good! I am a blond and lots of salons messed my colour up or used bleach!!!! Donna is British and comes to my house, i pay AED200 for root , AED300 for highlights ( my hair is long) and AED100 for a cut hi sarahlou, can you send me the details for your hairdresser that comes to your house. It sounds perfect. I'm a blond too so need someone i can trust. By the way I have also invested in a shower filter here because the water really does ruin the colour. my friend suggest the pure blue filter which i recently got and its great. i definitely noticed a difference in the water and my hair feels a lot softer. You can order from their website which is great! Pleasecould you give me the number of Donna as I have had 2 traumas here already in 3 weeks 055-4091400

Yep we will be here for a good few years. Thanks Poppy - I think DH will think I've lost my mind but might go on a few tours then soon. Seems ridiculous as DD is still a tiny baby but I guess this is Dubai. Got my heart set on Kings, not heard great things about GEMS and how they're run. Would prefer a school near to Marina / new Dubai due to location but happy to commute to Jumeirah way if really necessary. Thanks again, this forum is invaluable. My colleague has a 6 month old baby and he and his Wife are looking now

Hiya everyone, I have the following concerns: *I have a lot of loose/flabby skin and fat, * I am [b'>not[/b'> overweight so weight is not an issue as I eat quite healthy *I have really bulky/ chunky thighs :( *I have cellulite on thighs and arms * I have flabby arms (triceps not biceps) *I have a tendency to bulk when I exercise on my arms and thighs due to my body type. *I have Knee issues so cant do high impact exercise *I am in my late 30's if age has any factor *My BMI is 23 - normal range but I plan to reduce to 21 if poss. I am 5'2 inches/157 cms tall What type of exercise should I be doing, duration of exercise and how often for my body type to help overall but mainly reduce the size of my thighs and arms without bulking. I have heard of bikram yoga, bharat thakur yoga, hatha, asthanga etc and also pilates. Apparently you use your body weight so better than doing weight in the gym so you are more leaner and not bulky..is it true? can anyone help if you have tried any of these or all to compare? I was thinking of doing pure cardio ( I cant run due to bad knees) but I can brisk walk for half hour a day and do one of the above yoga types 3x a week if it will help with not bulking and reducing my body. Any advise will be really appreciated. I cant afford a personal trainer so I have to do this witout their help. I do cardio and weights. You only bulk up if you lift heavy ones Google the body for life and there are lots of pictures of weights for upper body that will tone your arms.

Why are you feeding them? A cup of tea/coffee/water and some biscuits - done! Well that is all you'd get in my house and I don't have any kids! I was thinking the same and they can put the kettle on! My close friends go straight for the kettle and the biscuit tin themselves

I am not generalising however i know certain nationalities are a little afraid of dogs, when i used to walk my friends Pug ( He is tiny) some grown men and women would walk as far from him as possible wheras other would come over and make a fuss. My building is full of small dogs and one gorgeous large lab and i can honestly say i have never heard any barking. Give me barking over my night owl of a neighbour hoovering at 3am! I feel the police would only get involved if your dog attacked or went for someone and if you have not had a visit from the police by now then i doubt she has complained to them Do you know who is complaining about the barking? Have you tried to speak with them about this?

Had a really good hairdresser but she stopped working on the weekends and last appointment is 18:30hrs so almost impossible to make it... Hello I need to go to RAK tomorrow. Can anyone give me directions from Dubai Marina to RAK free zone, near the Hilton? Also how long will it take if i leave at around 9/10 in the morning? TIA 90 mins max From Dubai International Airport take the Emirates Road, follow the Sharjah road signs until you see Ras Al Khaimah road signs and continue straight road. After about 40 min drive you will reach a big round about at the entrance of Ras Al Khaimah. Take right and keep straight road, pass all 3 round abouts straight (clock r.a., boat r.a. and sea shells r.a.) and follow the road signage Hilton Ras Al Khaimah, pass the bridge, find Manar mall in the right hand side and before the trafic light turn left, after 100 m find Etisalat Building in the left hand side, keep straight 100 m, you will see Hilton Ras Al Khaimah (city hotel) in your left hand side, go U turn, take left after the trafic light to reach the entrance. This to the hotel only

House of Prose is the second hand bookshop that buys/sells books. You can buy a second hand book and return it for a guaranteed 50% of what you bought it for. Plus it's a fantastic small business idea that promotes recycling (of books), literature, and they have locations in cool places (Dubai Garden Center, ACE festival city, and a small plaza in Jumeirah - i think it's called Jumeirah Plaza. We love this place and browse through the shelves with our kids too. If you sell your own they give you peanuts for them :-( i would of rather donated mine as their resale value was huge The idea you posted is fab though

I can only speak for Malaysia, but I didn't have any additional paperwork or vaccination requirements coming from Dubai. It is very hot and humid there and it rains nearly every afternoon, so I suggest loose, cool clothing in light colors. Also, quick dry material will be a godsend. Bring mosquito repellant or buy some as soon as you land. With all that moisture, the mosquitoes bite like crazy. If you are planning to go into the jungles, definitely wear comfortable shoes with good tread. The planks are generally safe, but again, the moisture can make them very slippery. Otherwise, don't forget your umbrella and have a great time! Same for Singapore humidity is not very nice and much worse than Dubai in the Summer

This might be old news but travelling along the Bypass road (E611) yesterday we noticed that all the signs had been changed to Emirates Road,it seems to have been renamed. Is this correct ? and if so how potentially confusing! Wondering if this is a ploy to make people start calling Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road by it's proper name which most of us are still finding a bit of a mouthfull :) MBZ is what the radio presenters call it :-)

Thank you for your advice everybody...it really is appreciated. If I am in the position to support myself for a couple of months could the option be to find temporary work initially so I can then add Dubai employers to my CV and then work on a more permanent job? Is temporary work widely available to UK nationals? Also, I was surprised to hear about the house shares in Dubai, do you have any recommended websites that I could view? Thanks again! Laura You have to be sponsored by Husband or Father etc to temp in Dubai, they are not paid very well at all ( Much less than a perm role) As for house shares it is actually illegal and someone on here has just been kicked out of their villa for sharing so be aware of this I do not know if this applies to apartments though although man/woman who are not related cannot live together

I honestly believe she was unhinged! I just told the other 2 i was always busy when they contacted me and they finally got the message. I do not like being hard with people and i would do anything for anyone but they were all stressing me out with their Dubai Princess routine. They would get slapped if they behaved like this in the UK

Thanks all, lol @ grange hill! Ant n Dec haha! Cocopops it's a weird mentality isn't it - you're going there anyway, so I'm just going to hitch a ride. Does that mean I can get a free trip back to the UK because the Emirates flight is going there anyway so what do they care?? People are so stingy. You will get alot of freeloaders here who wouldn't behave that way at home It took me a couple of year to weed out the great ones and the ones i have now i am sticking with :-)

My friends did not use me as a taxi but in the past i had friends who were hours late meeting you. Needless to say they were dropped. With regards to their lateness i used to ask if they would do the same to a potential BF. That question was met with an astounding "of course not" which made me realise that the friendship was one-sided and do not get me started on supposed friends who are never off their mobile phones on a night out or at dinner. They were also dropped.

Can anyone tell me what the job requirements are to become a PE Teacher? What are the necessary qualifications and specifically to work in this capacity in Dubai what is essential? I have a degree educated friend who has worked as a personal trainer for many years who would like to become a PE Teacher but who has not done the PGCE or anything else. She has done personal training certificates but not specifically related to children. Could she apply? Are the rules quite stringent. Appreciate any advice. Thanks ladies. My friend used to be one in a Dubai secondary school. He did not have a degree but sports related NVQ's and HND's from the UK. He got the role here as he had been a PE Teacher in the UK I would perhaps ask the person to speak to some of the schools admin/HR departments here about roles as i find you can get to talk to anyone ( including CEO's) in this part of the world They will be able to advise your friend

Hi Sarah :) Do you love your mini?? I do! Agree that Virgin has a great selection on covers. The *free* apps I use most are myfitnesspal, the weatherchannel app, flipboard, travel magazine (this one is brilliant!), MedWhat, and Sudoku :) I've downloaded a few apps that teach how to say hello and basics in French and Italian, those are fun. Oh, and Coin Dozer was a great, great mindless game to pass time in queues and things like that. "The Room" was another game I really liked, a puzzle game. Kept me busy for a few nights when DH was away for business. I love my mini and am addicted to candy crush ( blame my friend who got me into it) I have ordered a groovy cover from Amazon for the paltry sum of 6 pounds plus 3 pounds delivery Thanks to all for the advice!

I doubt that you can. We bought one for our son and from what I remember it was only available online from a couple of sources in the UK, and there was quite a waitlist. However, they didn't process the payment until it was mailed out. We mailed it to a UK address, and then arranged delivery from there. Technically I think that it'll manage a VPN, but bearing in mind that therefore the data all flows through it I'm pretty sure you'll not get the connection you're expecting. I'n not sure it'll have the data flow through, memory or buffering ability necessary, or even the network speed. I'd check into those with someone who knows their stuff :-) Unless you have super high speed here the connections on the vee pee en are awful Mine is constantly interruped

Gulf Talent is also a good website and would suggest sending your CV through to Michael Page Recruitment.... they were the best for contacting me when I was out of work and looking for a PA/Executive Secretary type job..... As pinks said... I would not look at coming over without one as it is an expensive place to live but on the downside to that, a lot of employees would rather employ locally, preferably to people who already have UAE experience and also with hiring locally, they do not have to offer an international package..... I would maybe suggest coming over for a month, you can rent apartments on a montly basis.... although more expensive than normal rent and then scour the job market and meet people.... I would definately contact the agencies before then as it can take some time for any interest to start coming through.... Another good place for jobs seems to be Qatar... not as busy as Dubai but they are expanding and many people living in Dubai have made the move over there........ I use GT alot other agencies however it is best to be here morgan mckinley BAC M.E Kershaw Leonard
