I do not want to cause a new debate or any trouble but why should working mothers have different rights to childless people. Many people would like to work through lunch and finish early etc as we all work long hours here Not all of us surf the net for 2 hours or sit on our mobiles I for one like the fact that the UAE gives the same rights to each of us Sarahlou, have you got any children? I you had you would understand how ridiculous your statement is. As for "the same rights to each of us" : are you serious ? I meant working mums versus childless people and yes i do have one plus i am entitled to my opinion as you are :-) edited by sarahlou123 on 24/04/2013

My son is crazy about monster cars and actually cars in general, as most boys I guess. I was wondering if 3 years was to young to take him to the Monster Jam in Abu Dhabi, my biggest concern being the noise. Get him some earplugs or noise cancelling earphones I do not think it is too young at all My friend took her 4 year old to the F1 and he loved it!

I am 18 weeks pregnant .The doc gave me gyno daktarin 200mg ovules. It looks like plastic from out side i wonder how it is absorbed,is it really like that? I used one last night and had some clear sticky discharge and itching. Is it normal. Moreover the med says to be used in first trimester only while i am 18 weeks? Have you tried natural yoghurt on a tampon? This is a natural method and can work well for thrush They do resemble plastic and are absorbed

Thank you.... Yeah I see he is a plastics but apparently he is a certified dermatologist too, although there seems to be some debate about that. Have you had experience with Dr. Carol, is she thorough? Thanks again My colleague uses her and yes At home at the poster above states you would go to the GP first but here that isnt always an option I have 2 bad ones removed off my back and it was obvious they were nasty If you see changes in them it is always worth getting them checked out

I thought there had been a spate of not allowing gardeners to work for families in the Springs/Other Emmar properties I remember security telling me they would not let them in as they were working illegally

Hey ladies, I have been looking on the forum for information about getting skin/mole checks but there are only a couple of outdated threads! I am just wondering if anyone can gove me a good recommendation for this. I have alot of moles and have never had a check up before but it is something I feel I should do. I see Dr. Jaffer Khan was being recommended, is this still the case? Thanks :) Dr Carol Lecleur at Healthcare city Dr Khan is a plastics guy never knew he did moles

Sushifee - I believe it is a new law regarding 28 max hire period. Thanks for that info but I am pretty sure they are one of the places I tried who say 28 days. As far as I can ascertain one has two options; 1. Lease a car rather than hire or 2. Take two contracts but one has to take the car back to point of hire for it to be checked etc before 2nd contract starts. This is not great if one is starting journey in Brum then going tomScotlnd.... regarding licence, unless you hire with UAE licence your insurance will be invalidated if an accident occurs so you must drive on UAE licence. My concern about this was how I was to prove my identity as rentals, banks etc in my DH's name but as some else said I can use my Emirates id card. Thnks for all the advice. Would your UAE licence be a form of ID also?

hi sarahlou many thanks for the info... he would have needed a doctor a couple of months ago but now, i think mainly because they say they cannot offer any further treatment, the documents that the family now have instruct them that only a nurse is required due to his current stable condition. lady silver.... if you or anyone could recommend any companies in the uk that has freelance nurses, that would be great as we could contact them. There is a company here called Interhealth Canada who supply Western nurses to Rashid hospital Perhaps if you Google them they may be able to offer advice The contact there is Susan or Suzanne i think Good Luck!! I dont know any nursing agencies in the UK however if you Google you will probably find lots online

huge fan of gellish but have been having it for months now and my nails have gone VERY thin, they're not the strongest at the best of times but I thought it best to have a break and now I'm missing my shiney nails :( havent had acrylic for years (used to always have them done in the Arndale centre in manchester) have they improved at all in terms of how natural they look? I always used to think that the thickness gave them away. Sorry to go off thread here... The Arndale that brings back memories!

Hi Everyone I know that this is a bit of a long shot but we urgently need to get a friend sent back to the UK... he is in a coma in Dubai and has been for a few months, but, needs to go to the UK for, hopefully, better treatment but as there is a small window of opportunity for his wife to travel as there one month old twins are being looked after, we need to find a qualified nurse that can travel with him on a normal flight back to the UK as the hospital nurses do not have the visa's needed for entry into the UK :-( If anyone knows of any company that we can contact... we have tried Emirates Nurses and they do not have anyone who has the correct travel documents needed...... Unfortunately, the family have hit so many brick walls through these last few months, it would be so nice if my friend could get her husband home. Many thanks My friend who is Ex Emirates said they would have to have a Dr travelling with them ( She has been working on a flight when this happened) I would try Virgin airlines perhaps

Can anyone out there please offer some assistance or information on UK National insurance contributions if you are living and working in Dubai? My husband moved out here in August and started work in January. His company is UK owned and have been deducting Income Tax (which we have now got them to stop) and National Insurance from his salary each month. We've been able to get them to stop the tax (subject to verification from the tax office - which we dont know if/how he will get as he never received a P45 from his previous employer and it cant/wont be re-issued) but they are continuing to deduct full NI contributions. According to them his status requires him to pay NI for 52 weeks before they will consider him non-resident (because we still own our home in the UK even though its rented out) This seems totally wrong to me....UK nationals working for other companies dont have this issue, and neither do nationals of other countries working for his country, so only UK nationals are being penalised in this way. Is there anything we can do to stop these deductions? I never paid any from the day i left. I could choose to pay it ( For pension benefit) mine just stopped and i work for a UK company here I know to be classed as a non resident you have to be out of the country for a full 2 years or they can get you for tax when you return You can also claim a tax return which i did ( I received around 1000GBP) the 1st year after i moved here. I also own property in the UK so it cannot be for the that reason I did go into the tax office before i moved here to get clarification I am stumped on this one and would say ring the tax office

I'm just about to go to my salon in Souk Al Bahar so will check with them I was a die-hard powder gel fan for 2 years but now I get Gellish (similar to shellac). It's much kinder on the nails, quicker to put on, lasts 2 weeks, and the best thing is that it stays really shiny, unlike the polish on acrylic nails. I love it to bits and won't go back to powder However, if you want a french manicure powder or acrylic is better I have my gellish in French as long as your nails are a decent length then it looks nice

OP I have been searching in vain for this exact same thing for 5 years. It doesn't exist here sadly. In the UK I used to go to those real cheap "American tan" salons with Chinese nail operators who took 1hr to put on a full set or 40 mins for refills. I have sat through hours and hours of beauticians filing my nails slowly here which is infuriating as they stop to chat and faff around for ages. T&T often do take 3 hours to put them on, refills 90mins - 2hrs. Plus they are hugely overpriced. I don't want to relax for hours while getting nails done - it is maintenance pure and simple and I want to be in and out asap. I go to Beauty Connection Spa on beach road (there is also one on SZR) who are quite quick and reasonably priced. They also have about 50 nail technicians so you can get your toes done too or even threading all at the same time. I used to go to the chinese ladies back home they were very quick!

Perhaps the authorities here should take a harder line and do more thorough checks - in my humble opinion the problems lies with those people who create the demand by illegally employing these maids - they are the ones that should be targetted with a higher fine - I don't think legallising part-time maid employment would work as that would seem unfair on those of us who pay out for the annual sponsorship. I also think majority of these maids have a mentality of "it won't happen to me" - we have told our maid exactly what you have said Simplesabc but I bet you it went in one ear and straight out the other and if the opportunity of earning more money on the sly was there she wouldn't think twice. The onus is definitely on the people who hire illegals or use other people's maids. The maid won't think twice because not much will happen to her except a lifetime UAE ban. People can be fined 50,000 dirhams. It does happen and I think that is a big risk. However, maybe the people risking those fines have weighed the pros and cons and still find it cheaper to pay the fine than to sponsor. I wouldn't employ an illegal one. What happens if she robs you or invites her BF round to have nookie in your bed ( This happened to someone i know) why take the risk. You do not know anything about the person

For what it's worth, I'm ex-crew and would just say that when you get on board and into your seat, look for a friendly looking crew member and tell them! You would not believe how many nervous flyers there are, you are NOT alone by a long shot!! The crew member can then just keep an eye on you (service commitments permitting of course!). But even a friendly smile of calm encouragement in passing can help you. Also, try and get buried in films as soon as you get on board to distract you and think about all your family / friends who are excited to be seeing you at the other end and what you plan to do with them and all the good times you have had in the past. Anything to move your mind in to a more positive state! I won't recommend a drinkie, simply because it makes some people calmer and some more nervous - but if you know it works for you, then I say have a couple and sleep the flight away!! ;) Hugs to all you nervous flyers, must be horrid! I also find if i wear earplugs it drowns the noises out that scare people, playing my favourite music also helps edited by sarahlou123 on 23/04/2013

Different people will have different opinions, but mine is that the VIP area at these Sandance/Live@Atlantis events is a bit of a con. I've had friends in this section at previous events (including NYE and Noel Gallagher) and they've ended up spending most of the night in the regular section anyway. The 'VIP' platform is in a rubbish location towards the back of the venue and gets really overcrowded, with people pushing to get to the railings at the front in order to see anything. And the bars and toilets in the regular section are MUCH easier to get to, with no queues at all. I'd save yourself the money and hassle and just go with the regular tickets. Things have improved immeasurably since the nightmare stories of the Stereophonics, and I really don't see the benefit of the VIP section anymore. The table packages on the opposite side of the beach are a different story, but you need 10 people for those and they will have sold out a long time ago. edited by HereComesTheSun on 23/04/2013 Totally agree, the only difference is that the toilets in the regular section are way at the back but no queues. Unless you are at the front of the VIP you cannot see alot

Is it legally ok to do this? I thought that a visa issued to you as a dependent of your husband contains the phrase 'must not work'. How do you get around that? NOC from him saying he allows you to work haha

I woud be the wrong person to offer to buddy up, I am a NERVOUS wreck flying, [b'>The only positive thing is that I lose my appetite for a few days beforehand and have a path worn to the bathroom door, so I usually lose a couple of kilos. Tell the airline in advance and they may be able to offer you assistance. (((hugs))) I know exactly how you feel. I've been using one from Home Centre for the past two years. Super easy to install and still working smoothly. It covers the entire glass door, not sure about the 250 cm though. I remember it being less than one hundred. I got mine from HC still going strong into their 3rd year, i think they were AED70 each and a large size

hi there..i know this is probably going to come across as weird but i have a phobia of flying. I get really nervous and scared..I have plane tickets booked for July..but seems i may have to change them and fly home anytime from middle May/June time. Is there anyone out there who may be flying home in one of these months on Emirates Airlines..who perhaps wouldnt mind buddying up with me at the airport getting me through the flight to the UK..just really need the conversation and keep my sanity..(dont worry i dont get all looney or anything)..i just get really really scared). When i came to Dubai, my doctor prescribed me tablets for the duration of the flight and i had to fly with a letter to say why i had the tablets. If anyone can recommend something that i could ask my doctor for here...that would also be great! Yes girls..i feel so silly but i honestly cant help it and its such a real phobia to me. Many Thanks. I used to be the same after a hideous flight from Germany many years ago My fear was turbulence however i had a chat with a pilot and since then no issues whatsoever It is one of the most common phobias and you are not alone, tablets only raised my anxiety and my DR refused to give me them and wanted to send me to a fear of flying program I realised most of it was in my head and once i got over that i now love flying :-)

He already wrote me up, but after much patient "explaining" why I was so confused he finally tore it up thank goodness. But I just wanted to post to let other ladies know apparently this is a way to get a fine and to be careful!!! He told me that I shouldn't have stopped even though his lights were on, as he would have gotten on the speaker to let me know if he wanted me to stop!!! So... not sure what we are supposed to do, keep driving until the officer calls us out on speaker!? Seems like that would get you into more trouble right!? Very confusing for me...! I imagine the repercussions for not stopping and when i have seen people pulled over here have never heard a loud speaker?

Kids who are studying here find it almost impossible to get internships so a visitor to the city has no chance, unless you or your husband can offer her something. No companies offering interships for a few weeks will sponsor - they would be expected to be on the family visa or do visa runs. Are you referring to paid internships? She just wants to hopefully find an unpaid internship just for the experience (CV boost) when she graduates in a few years. Sounds like its gonna be hard for her to find something if Emiratis are what companies tend to go for. Thanks for the answers. Ours are paid, maybe unpaid may be better How old is she?

Cut a long story short. Last night I arrived back in Dubai, I had to go home for my sisters funeral. My husbands daughter moved in with us a little while ago. We have given her everything. Money, a car, free board and lodgings. I have been there when she has needed advice. The only thing she has to pay for is her petrol. As my husband works away, there has been just the two of us. It has been difficult. I have on numerous occasions asked him to have a word with her because she just doesn't do anything to help around the house except empty the dishwasher and doesn't always do that. I most of the time (not all) made sure there was a dinner ready for her when she gets in from work. (I work also) I buried my sister last Thursday, I get back last night, my husband picks me up and starts having a go at me. His daughter is leaving. She has been complaining about me being upset (my sister was very ill and she died a month later). She complained that I drink, she complained that I didn't clean something up straight away, although I didn't know it was there until she had to show me. My husband and I, have now had a massive argument. I did lose my temper in the car, I was so upset. I could not believe what he was coming out with and I am being blamed for everything. I have not even had time to grieve, I got this bombshell in the car from the airport. I really don't know how to deal with this. I really need advice because I can see this ending our marriage. It is his daughter and he see's no wrong. Even when we did two washes in the washing machine, one after the other with just one t-shirt in, then tumble dried them. Am I over reacting to what was said? I am in shock that they would do this to me at this time. You are not overacting at all and i am sorry about your Sister Blood can be thicker than water when it comes to step families and i went through this with my exes 2 kids. Does he feel guilty towards his Daughter as she does not live with him full time Does she manipulate him because he is no longer married to her Mum What a horrible scenario to be in and i wish you the best with this
