I hate horror films and am too chicken to watch them but when I was keeping my BF company (she died last summer from complications of MND) I was even more horrified that my gentle friend had developed a passion for them!! Spent half my time making excuses to go to the kitchen or hiding behind a cushion!! Im a cushion hider but then i do that with regular tv aswell if i know someone is going to get caught or something bad will happen haha

My niece is coming to visit for the summer and she was asking how to go about internship work in the UAE? I honestly have no clue, but thought EW forums could help. Do the firms usually provide her a short-term visa or should she be expecting to do visa runs? Also is there anything special the company would require from her, she's studying for her bachelor's outside the UAE. Thanks in advance. It is really difficult to get intern roles in the UAE as they tend to be offered to Emirati candidates ( Similar to the graduate programs in the UK) None of my clients hire interns who are non Emirati or who do not speak Arabic

Hi Ladies? I am in desperate need of new long sleeved tops. I'm fair and hate suncream so I always cover my skin instead. Most of what I can find in the malls are loose-fitting shirt-style tops which don't work on my figure at all! I'm looking for fitted tops, long sleeves, stretch fabric, good quality (so not H&M)...anyone got any ideas? M&S Gap

Can anyone suggest somewhere to buy medium/large potted plants for the balcony (that don't cost the earth!) All my indoor plants are from IKEA; they're well priced and fab, but I'm not a fan of their outside selection. Thanks! Try the plank souk, the guys there potted all of mine and were so cheap You can Google their location

We watched that film, the other night, tut tut, cant think of the name now, the one with CarryAnn, and the house gets swallowed up, anyway, seen it that many times, but not for a while, the scene when the clown disapprears from the chair and ends up under the bed. My DD, Mate and I screamed all together, not sure who was the loudest, still scares me. Lol Poltergeise? I hate clowns!

I have been here a few months, kids settled in, husband is happy in his job and I am home and start to feel bit bored. Send out few cv's, but realise it is not easy here to find the a part time job that can be easily combined with kids, so I start thinking of other options. I have a few ideas in my head. One of them will be starting a business from home, shortly catering and food delivery etc.. . I am on my husband's visa, so how does it work? what do I need to make it legal? what will it cost? Where can I enquire? TIA You will need a business licence and cannot do it on your Husbands visa My understanding is it costs more than AE20,000 and it is some kind of virtual UAE licence if you Google you may find more info. With regards to catering i assume your premises would have to be inspected and cover all the municipality laws/health/safety etc so i do not know how this would work for you Use the search bar above for businesses and this may throw up some advice

I was offered a visa with my company but I preferred to stay on my husband's - I don't want to be beholden to a company and have them enforce a ban on me if I ever left. You may well want to take the visa for the benefits it offers you (flights home, etc) but my DH gets flights home for both of us, plus a great medical package so it wasn't worth me taking my company visa (and I also didn't want the hassle to be honest). Do you get the extra (ie. flights home) as extra cash in your salary if you do this? I'm thinking about the same option with a company at the moment. Most ladies on Husbands visa are covered with his job for medical, however can get the flight allowance but bear in mind not all companies give cash for this some actually book the flight when required

I moved to Dubai in January and I am on my husbands sponsorship and have now completed my medical, emirates id, drivers license etc. I have recently been offered a job and the company have suggested I go onto their visa. Do I have to go on to their visa or am I able to stay on my husbands, as I would prefer to stay on my husbands visa sponsorship? Yes but not if the company is at DIFC

Dont go to sleep? Warning spoilers ahead* After the death of thier oldest daughter Jennifer(the scene most remember, little bratty brother from the poltergeist movies tieing her shoes laces and then the car crashing, everyone getting out accept the oldest daughter whom met her fate in an exploding car)The family has moved to a new house hoping to start over thier lives, Gramma also moves in with them. Mary the middle child begins hearing strange sounds, the errie voice of her dead sister calling out to her at night. After many nights, mary finally conforts the voice underbed and finds her sisters ghost smiling. She befriends her sisters ghost, happy to see her agian, but her sister wants more then friendship, she wants revenge! First gramma (the lizard under her sheets scene and scaring her into a heart attack) and then her little borther (good'ol push off the roof did him in good). then daddy in the bath-tub with a radio. Mary attempts to then kill her mother with a pizza cutter, but she manages to escape, and mary is locked up....Returning home with a nurse, mary's mother thinks the nightmare is over.....but guess who is at the end of the bed,"Hi mommy"... smilling and winking... This was a made for Tv movie and a very well made one at that, if you see it at a rental store RENT IT, you see it for sale...BUY IT! you will not be sorry you did. 10 out of 10 stars

Maybe they are acting on tip-offs and trying to find people using illegal workers... I remember they did a spate of this in Mirdif a few years ago Also in Springs I think last year? Plenty of maids asked to show their labour cards etc. I never answer the door unless i am expecting someone and then use the spyhole :-) Well it was 7.30pm and normally it is security so I was surprised to see some man taking down data! Also wouldn't give me any card or ID! They should always show ID

In the lifts in our building, there are signs posted about this, that representatives will be visiting to collect statistics of residents. Sorry I can't remember the exact language used, but sounds like it is the same thing. Isnt that what the Emirates ID is for?

I brought that up to my DH who just said since we are leaving next year it doesn't matter if the insurance premium goes up. If we move back after two years away, though, would it still be in the records? It would be but the premium wouldn't be too high

Hi, I wonder if anyone has found a way to get part time help for children after school with home work, after school activities, doing baths etc. We would also consider going the fulltime route, using a Babysitting/Governess visa - but other than Uk agencies ( we want English first language, western trained nanny) so far the only source seems to be through very expensive UK agencies who have little or no experience here. I am not sure what the options are, but am wondering if anyone who has any ideas? Thanks I do not know of any UAE agencies that provide this service Most people use maids and they are from Asian countries

I have definitely seen Silent Night sold in Debenhams here in the past, although I can't recall seeing them recently..but then I haven't been looking for them either. I know that the MOE Debenhams sold the beds on the third floor at the back, near where the entrance to Starbucks is. I saw them a few weeks back

i am an employer, and would really advise people not to get into court. Always try try try your best to get it sorted out of court, or even accept a lower pay out. The case will drag on for years, and during that time you are not allowed to work, NO body will hire you, as you dont have clear papers. However, the company/CEO will go on functioning as normal. I have had to turn down some great candidates who interviewed, as they simply were not free of the case, and therefore unable to commit. i think I have tried long enough to get it settled out of court !!!, did find this article You can actually get a temp. work permit if you have a court case http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/employment/workers-with-court-cases-can-work-1.501542 Will your current employer cancel your labor card or visa? To temp you have to be sponsored by Father or Spouse you cannot temp if on visit visa or employment visa from a previous company as this is illegal and all employers know this plus you do not want to start off on the wrong foot with another company after all you have been through

I know both pretty well but mostly from backpacking and it's a few years ago now so might not be on your wavelength with accomodation etc...just to add though that height of the monsoon season in Goa is May - Aug so probably not a great time to go - although I went once in early September and it was perfect, green and fresh but only a little rain. The sea there is not so clear, and has some strong rip currents in places, Thailand is definitely better if your son likes to snorkel/dive. It will also be wet season in Thailand during the summer but usually the East gulf coast islands (Ko Samui, Ko Samet, Ko Tao, Ko Phangnan) are safer bets for good weather as opposed to the West Andaman side (Phuket, Phi Phi). Thai food is fantastic (although some bbq'd fish on the beach in Goa with a bottle of Kingfisher isn't bad either!) and it's a pretty safe place. I'd tack on a few days in Bangkok or Chang Mai as well if you have time and like sightseeing. I would steer clear of certain places in Bangkok especially with a child in tow ;-) Yeah, that's true....mind you, I saw some fairly eye opening sights in Phuket as well! I know! I am not naive but was very shocked and sad at some of the sights

Umm - gos the government sector works on a Saturday night..... I mean, they don't work past 2 pm on a weekday; I was thinking the same thing! In most countries, census workers usually work when people are most likely to be home ... ie a weekend afternoon or evening. But you guys sure are a suspicious bunch! Considering what can happen here and at home i think it is always best to be suspicious!

Hello, I'm almost 4 weeks into Insanity and it's going fine - very much enjoying Shaun T and his peeps. However, I'm really missing any kind of weight training. It's very very cardio based and as a result I don't think I'm getting very sculpting. I'm stronger and fitter, but not that much leaner. Is this something that changes in the second month, with the extended workouts, or is it pretty much more of the same? I have about 6 weeks before our next holiday and I'm wondering whether to put month 2 on hold and go back to Jillian for the next 6 weeks. Would greatly appreciate the views of those who have been through it. FFx I have never done Shaun T however i do believe a mix of both cardio and weights will help sculpt and lean Sunday Cardio Monday upper body weights Tuesday Cardio Wednesday lower body weights Thursday Cardio Fri Off Saturday Upper Body Sunday Cardio Etc etc, this is the body for life plan and it is very good, my friend has just finished the 12 weeks and the difference it has made to her body! You can go online as they have a site for women

Yep, Fitness First at Meadows Village (next to EIS) hold them virtually every day. You don't need to be a member. To attend, non-members only pay about 10 dhms more than members. They are generally held around 8:30am. Thanks i can never go at 08.30am though unless it is on a weekend

Fitness First in the Lakes and Meadows have classes you can pay as you go - I've been spinning in the Meadows, but this was some time ago - not sure if they do that class in the Lakes as well. I've found the class timetable on their website unreliable in the past (I'm sure others have more recent experiences), so I normally pop in and pick one up AND ask reception if there going to be any changes! Thank you
