Was the CEO still getting paid while you were waiting for your salary to come in all these months? I thought the same :-)

Looking at the body for life challenge now. The transformations are amazing. I am a fan of the eat less move more concept. I know I have consumed too much and not worked it off so am left with the results. I am in the obese category now which is shameful, never been this fat in my life! I lose weight easily but lack the motivation to change and follow a healthy lifestyle permanently. I am tall and have long, lean, limbs with tiny ankles and wrists but have developed a big fat belly which can be disguised with the correct clothing. I am a carb fiend which is why I have a round belly now, will put down the brown bread and hit the treadmill. I will channel Gwen Stefani's abs and work it all off so I can work my wardrobe again :) Looked at the transformations too seems this program also gives you a great tan too ;-) Out of bottle haha i suppose it highlights your abs better ;-) My friend did it and i could not believe the difference in her body she has maintained it for years

IT's not about being fortunate or not; i am not able to work for free - i need to get paid or i can't pay rent, DEWA or eat. I work for money; the only reason - if an employer can not meet the basic needs of paying me; i am not going to work - and it actually costs you money to go to work; i would be spending that time looking for another job. I am saying how it is in the wonderful world of non payment of salaries :-)

I need to get with the program and lose 30 kilos - caught my reflection in a window the other day and thought who is that chubby person? Yikes. Need to acknowledge that I can no longer stuff my face like I did in my 20s and start looking after myself more. Oh and step away from the cheese (and the grape ;) Look at the Body for life my friend was very overweight ( obese) and looks amazing now All food in moderation which is good

Perhaps it's me but the only reason i work is for my salary; if i wasn't getting that, i wouldn't be working - no ifs no buts. Not everyone is that fortune to be able to leave straight away Non payment and late salaries are common here and when you are working and employers make promises people hang on in the hope they will get paid ( Some do)

I'm curious, why did you carry on working for your employer after they had missed the second salary? Because unfortunatly I'm too gullible, too many promises made by the CEO, and it was more like 3 months no pay, then get a little, 2 months no pay then get a little more. And because its a job that is very close to my heart, I worked for a wildlife conservation program and I loved my job and stayed with it because I cared about the animals I worked with and always was hopeful of it turning around, but just turned out to be a big lie :( I also imagine they promised they would pay your salary and if you left it would be harder to try and get it. I hear of this alot now. More like threats of I wouldn't get anything if I left :( Shocking! How do they expect people to work for free when they have families to feed!

Thanks TDB :) been checking since January and they dont seem to have changed much (this is for my summer flights) I guess they know a lot of people want to travel then but last year I did get it for a reasonable price via a sale I think but unless I've missed it (hope not As I have been checking obsessively) they don't seem to have had one this year....this would be to Manchester UK I ask about the last minute flights just curious if you can say book same day to fly that night if they'd sell them cheap just to fill seats...but then I guess they'd worry that everyone would just wait then ;-) I am in the same boat AED5000 return to MAN in August!! I only paid AED3500 last year You find as the plane fills up the prices go up not down Certain airlines will start to have the monopoly in this part of the world therefore the choice will decline. Certain airlines brag about their costs!

I am brand new in Dubai and have no idea what "normal" is.... But I certainly do not need to go to a "top" salon for just a trim :-) There is one in the Marina next to Bobs fish and chips ( Opp Byblos and Marina Sail) I would not trust them to colour my hair but they have trimmed and blow dried it I cannot remember the cost but they were not "top salon prices" I pay 100 for a decent trim but she comes to my house

Hi ladies, Could you please help me to choose between those 3 places, knowing that my husband and I don't drive (he can't, I can but I hate it...). According to you, which place between shoreline in PJ, marina or JLT would be the best for us given that we have à teenage boy very fond of sports, a 1 y.o. baby ,the school of son is in oud metha, and I will be working in the marina. Any piece of advice will be much appreciated, TIA Marina and JLT for ease of metro

Thanks for the replies - does seem like a conundrum. I am asking on behalf of a friend, who has a UK licence AND a current UAE licence, but is no longer a resident - so I assumed a UAE licence is only valid with a UAE residency. Will run it by RTA and insurance company and see what multiple choice answers I get :)) It is and i would be very careful as she could be involved in a prang and then it could all go pear shaped. Very grey area. Why does she not hire on her UK licence then she will be okay

I'm so glad to read this thread because I don't tip the hairdresser. In London my hairdresser owned the salon and so to tip her felt really odd and here, my hairdresser is the same age and nationality as me and so after 2 hours of discussing our very similiar lives, it feels really odd to say 'oh here is some money'. I think I'm a loyal customer and that's 'tip' enough. FFx Agree, i know my hairdresser earns a fortune ;-)

I have managed putting of Dubai hairdressers until now. Had my first experience and felt awkward at the cashier. There's the girl hovering over you while washing your hair and taking you to the chair. Then there's the hairdresser. Both looking at you expectingly during the payment process. And all I had was a blow dry!! Would love to hear how you hande this. Who to tip and how much? PS In my home country I never tip my hairdresser, but I buy her a nice gift for Christmas. I don't but take cakes in every now and then If i tipped i would have to tip the hairdresser, the girl who washes my hair I only tip in exceptional circumstances otherwise with all my monthly treatments i would be broke

I've heard if a taxi driver gets three complaints then they are sent packing....not sure how true it is though I find the older the cab the worse the smell is. I hate sitting in the back of a car at the best of times however with some of the stenches it is awful!

- if we get in the car on Friday and i ask him where we are going, the answer is why do i always nag, why cant i just go with the flow and enjoy. this usually translates into going somewhere I'm likely to not like or been there way to often and eating food i don't feel like eating wants it, when he wants it w/o asking questions or complaining. How is this nagging? Nagging is asking a BF or DH over and over again to do tasks (like picking up their socks). This isn't nagging. Why should you not get a say on where to go out? what/if anything can be done to stop a man from being such an egocentric bully No, but you can stop it affecting you very easily - by leaving him. I guarantee that after few weeks you will wonder what took you so long. There are loads of single men in Dubai, and I'm sure you can do far far better than this Lots of single men yes, decent ones NO!

I stopped a taxi last evening and the driver rudely asked me where i wanted to go.Knowing very well that he will refuse to take me if i had told him the location as it was less than a AED 20 trip-i tried to open the door and found it was locked.I said 'can you open the door pls'-again in a rude manner he asked me where i wanted to go and then i asked him whether it was a new rule that we have to tell them where before we get into the taxi and then he just took off( did something with his hand as if to say 'get lost') Furious i was after standing outside for 30min but managed to take a note of the taxi number.Called and complained awhile ago but not sure whether they would take any action and what it would be.. still very furious Just curious, why didn't you give the driver a chance and tell him where you wanted to go? Not all taxi drivers will refuse, but you automatically presumed he would... I have always told the taxi driver where I wanted to go as soon as I got in or they have asked if I haven't. I'm not really surprised he was a bit rude - I would be if I were a taxi driver and someone stopped me, got in, refused to say where they wanted to go when I asked them (irrespective of tone, hard to tell from "Where do you want to go?)and then got out again... what a waste of my time! Maybe give them a chance next time, there are lots and lots of lovely drivers out there who know it is there job to do whatever journey they are asked to do and are happy to do them, you never know, your taxi driver may have been one of them if given the chance. If he had refused then you would of course have had a right to complain... Just my humble thoughts on the other side of the coin... er; he refused to let them in without knowing where they wanted to go..... ie, if you're not going where i want to go i am not letting you in attitude. The door was locked and he refused to open it when she said it was a short trip Some taxi drivers have terrible attitudes and i had one who told me to get lost when i asked him to put his mobile phone down whilst talking and driving at 120KPH I feel the driver has the attitude problem and we do see this alot across Dubai

we've never had to say where we're going - we just get in the car... I guess we've been lucky - in over 2 years here we've never had any rude or very smelly drivers (a couple have whiffed slightly but given their domestic arrangements it's hardly their fault..)...we did have one hilarious one driving through Deira once who fell asleep every time we stopped at lights - I only noticed cos he was snoring so loud LOL !! Well you have been lucky, lucky you got home in one piece! lol - we thought it was amusing.... Although i've heard the horrid/rude taxi incidents this is the first time in five years that i came across a rude driver who refused to take me in! I have had 2 in 7 years. I tell them fibs now and say i am going further than i am so they let me in! I bet they love that !! Tough! it is their job to take me

I am 36 and somehow not feeling well how I look like so decided makeover time. I will never be slim but try to keep my weight at 80kg at 180cm which is a struggle due to hormonal issues. Other things needs to be worked on to have it balanced out::) and first thing is my frone line, I have it since ages as I am not good with sunglasses I read even in the sun without glasses but then pinch my eyes. I had this line since ages and I hate it. Otherwise thanks god not too many lines and they do not disturb me. So can you recommend a super experienced reliable Dr. and can you giveme a price idea. Can you even explain a bit the procedure and if I need to do something as aftercare:) DR Jaffar Khan I pay around AED1800 and have my crows feet and forehead done every 9 months They inject into these areas, it does not hurt and there is not much aftercare apart from 7 days later when my lines and wrinkles disappear You can do so much research online regarding Botox however finding a good surgeon is the most important thing to me

We live in a compound of six villas, our tenancy contract is expiring on the 24th of April. Our landlord called us in March to tell us that he is increasing the rent. - We told him that the rera calculator said that he couldn't and even if he could he was suppose to let us know 90 days before the contract ended. He insisted on the increase, but refused to give us a letter regarding the increase - Early April we sent him a letter through courier regarding our intention to renew, but with the same terms and conditions according to the law. - He asked us to pick up a letter last week. DH picked it up yesterday only the letter was an eviction notice, saying his son wants to move in now. I'm panicking because I basically have only 7 days to find a place and move out. DH will be going to rera tomorrow, any advise on how to approach this matter with them? You are also supposed to liaise with him 90 days before it isnt just the LL that does this Not correct Sarah Lou. In Dubai the contract automatically renews, unless the tenant gives 90 days notice to quit. You do not have to notify the landlord or give any notice if you intend to stay Mine says i have to give 90 days to renew or to cancel and when i had issues with my LL i had to show the communication between myself and the LL to be able to prevent her putting it up

why didn't you want to claim? i was given advice to get an accident paper from police as it was the only way to claim insurance i cracked it myself when adjusting the rear-view mirror it fell off and I pushed it back in, it wouldn't stick until i pushed it HARD, and watched as 5 cracks immediately appeared in my windshield lol they are not through the whole glass though and as such ive been procrastinating fixing them Because the pink paper means it is my fault and it affects my no claims so next years insurance goes up! I drove over the bollard and my spoiler got stuck so it was my fault I could not say i found it this way or someone else did it to get the green paper If your insurance says it covers cracked windscreens ( as some do) you can claim without being affected

Hi Yorky, thank you very much. I appreciate your recommendation! I will try them. I live in the Greens and also use them :-) Does anyone think that T&T has got annoyingly busy of late? THe other night I had a mani pedi and massage and throughout all I could hear were ladies coming in and being annoyed that they were having to wait for their appointment so long, I went to put my top back on after the massage and was a tad embarrassed as felt like I was doing it with an audience of angy ladies waiting to jump in my seat! Not the most relaxing experience... I think they seem to overbook perhaps, or dont give enough time for appointments.. regardless I will keep going back, its so convenient and they do a good job of gellish. Welcome to the Greens FSenergy, I've lived in the marina, the palm and oldtown and really resented having to leave oldtown but have fallen in love with the peace and quiet of the greens - enjoy Never have a problem and been going there for 3 years what annoys me is the way some ladies speak to the staff!!!! plus there are signs to say no mobiles but it doesnt stop peoples phones constantly beeping and people chatting very loudly on them I take my ipod with me :-) I also think people turn up late which has a knock on effect for others or they expect an appointment without booking and the girls are petrified saying no to them edited by sarahlou123 on 17/04/2013

The concept of internships doesn't really exist here in the same way that it does in Europe or USA. Ideally, you would be set up with a company with a proper program in place which will allow you to maximize your experience and exposure. Most places in UAE (not all) who are willing to take on an "intern" are just seeing it as free labor and will not provide you with a lot of relevant work experience. You're better off doing volunteer work where you can actually give back. Or they have a national programme where they recruit Emiratis All of ours have to be Bi-lingual

If he wants to use the villa for himself or family he must give one year notice. If he wants to increase the rent then 90 days notice. He cant do anything at this moment and you are entitled to stay in your villa. He can only increase rent inline with calculator

Hi Ladies, When is the right time to start having botox? Can you be too young, too old? Should you prevent the lines from even being able to form or wait until they are there so you notice a difference after the treatment? So many questions, so any advise or opinions would be great! Thanks :-) I am 41 my friends 29 so horses for causes You cannot prevent lines unfortunately it is part of the ageing process unless you have amazing genetics and yes you do notice a huge difference although i am lucky and do not look like a wax doll after having it done as some of my friends do ( They go too often) If you go to a reputable surgeon he will advise you as mine does. He doesnt inject for the sake of it
