My Kindle just died on me :( It's way over the guaranty period, so Amazon won't fix it. Any ideas of where can I take it for repairs here in Dubai? TIA I thought mine had died but the battery had completely drained and it had been in the sun I plugged it in for 24 hours then restored it and hey presto all fixed!

I own a VW and my 60k service was 4k so that seems right They had to keep my car for 3 days as the service list was huge! 120k is a major service and i am sure if you contact Hyundai they will tell you what they have to do Servicing here is more expensive than Europe and most of the dealers have a monopoly over us if we want a dealer service

Hello .. can any one please help in how we can get it in Dubai, is there any clinic to monitor the protocol progress and how to apply? help please I thought they were illegal here? I may be wrong I imagine if allowed they would be given under strict instruction and you would have to be monitored.

Sarahlou123 Which Tips and Toes do you use, or are they all pretty much the same? I haven't dared get mine done out here yet The Greens never had any issues at all :-) Thanks I've been using the one at Springs near Choitrams for waxing, so may ask about tinting. :) Come to the Greens and i will hold your hand ;-)

Thanks - any particular reason why you have them permed and tinted at different places? I always went to tips and toes for tinting ( They did not do perming) Then Salon Ink starting perming so it has always been this way. :-)

In light of a change in circumstances, should I contact a job I interviewed for a couple of months ago that I had initially passed on? At the time, technically, no final offer was made, but the interviewer was very positive and planned to extend a formalized offer via email, but the deal came apart because we could not meet on salary - after consulting with management, I got a call back with a much lower offer saying they did not have the budget to offer what I was looking for. Since I was already employed and just testing the waters and looking for a considerable move up, we amicably dropped negotiations. Now as I am in a position where my current contract is ending and I need to find something asap, I'm thinking to get back in touch with the company to see if the job is still available. I know the pay will be much lower than I wanted, but its a good job with a reputable company and frankly any job is better than no job. What's the best way to approach this? By phone or email? Should I even do this? Advice please!! edited by bennet12 on 08/04/2013 what do you do? for a living i mean

Hi Does anyone know where I can refill an LPG gas cylinder for a BBQ brand called Australian. I have been told that you need to drop off the cylinder near the post office in Karama and then you get called to pick it up somewhere in the desert. This sounds like a long winded process. Does anyone know of a place in Dubai. Apparently LPG is different to the normal Orangey red coloured cylinders that the guys exchange on their vans around in Dubai. Hence the problem. Thanks

There is alot of toxins in the vaccines, and that is a fact. If you are referring to thimerosal, the mecury related preservative, please note this from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: "Which childhood vaccines do not contain thimerosal? Today, with the exception of some influenza vaccine, [b'>none[/b'> of the vaccines used to protect preschool children against 14 infectious diseases contain thimerosal as a preservative. " Living in Dubai with a huge ski dome and hundreds of 4x4's alot of toxins in the air here i imagine ;-)

The law in Dubai, for a while now, has been, NO to sharing of apartments and villas. Everyone knows of it and like it or not has to bear the consequences in due time. It's not necessary that people want to interfere, remember, there are always 2 hands to clap... so just take it as a lesson learnt, respect the rules and leave. It has been law since i moved here which was 7 yrs ago There was a huge crackdown a few years back as many families were sharing villas and it was burdening the maintenance, seweage, cooking facilties of the properties etc so the municipality had a massive crackdown. If the municipality wanted to check all they would need to do is check everyone ID cards as your residential address is logged there plus if they kicked everyone out there would be a huge decline in the amount od people living here! To the OP you will need to find alternative accomodation Saying that when i first moved here i shared and our neighbours were an Emirati Judge and a Police Captain. They both new and did not care!

So sorry to hear you are facing this. There seems to be a crackdown at the moment. We've had notices under our door from Emaar asking us to report anyone we suspect of doing this. FFx Oddly I always thought that sharing is allowed in freehold properties - has this changed too? It never has been legal

So one final clarification - for the end of service gratuity, I looked up the labor law and you are correct, it states any employee who has completed one year or more in continuous service, you get 21 days for the 1st year and then "fractions of year payable pro rata" -- so if I worked for 1 year and a half, then I would get 21 days for the first year and then the fraction (ie. 10.5 days) for the 6 months. Is there ANY way the employer can get around this -- any exclusions to this rule for an unlimited contract in a freezone? Gratuity is part of the labor law so they have to pay it The only way they can get around not paying it is due to gross misconduct on your behalf Which FZ are you in?

I am living in a 4 bedroom villa with friends of mine, everyone has its own room and bathroom and we are all educated adults not causing any trouble for the neighbors. I have now been contacted by the property management that they are aware that I am staying with people not being my relatives/family and they are asking my to vacate at earliest or they will get in touch with the rent committee/municipality. The management was notified from the maintenance team (who had to fix problems in the villa) as well as neighbors. Can anyone share similar experience or did anyone hear about such cases? Even if we know that it is normally not allowed in Dubai to share, half or even more of Dubai is shared accomodation, not even thinking about 5 people staying in 1 room. Can anyone let me know how to react the best now or do I have any rights? Many thanks. I do not think you have any rights at all as you should not be sharing and it is illegal They can ask you to vacate immediately and can involve the police This is a law so you cannot get around it I would try and speak with the LL to ask if they can refund some of your rent if you have to move mid rent year. Although many people are doing it they just have not been caught wheras you have unfortunately and you do not have any rights to stay there I hope you sort it out :-)

If one was hired under an unlimited contract in a Dubai freezone, and the employee passes one year, then the company decides to let the employee go after 6 months (not reaching a 2nd year mark), what are the employee's rights? (by let go, I mean not termination for disciplinary issue, rather the company has made the decision based on company financial reasons) 1. Are you entitled to end of service gratuity? 2. Are you entitled to compensation for the unused portion of remaining vacation days? 3. Most importantly, are you entitled to salary compensation for the remaining 6 months of the contract? Any advice much appreciated! edited by bennet12 on 08/04/2013 Gratuity after 1 year yes Dont Know sorry Nope a company will give you compensation at their own discretion and i have only ever seen one company pay this to a candidate( In 7 yrs)

Recently, my friends hair fell off due to the intense bleaching products the salon used! I think the best way is to cut your hair short and switch to a healthier shampoo. Also, the weather conditions in dubai make the hair so dry, so try not to wash the hair everyday. If you are looking for a good shampoo, use Millcreeks Biotene H-24! Definitely recommend it! Hmmm, theres no way I can cut my hair :-( I'll just try to treat it. I'm bleaching my roots a darker colour (less processing time) to save the rest of my hair as it grows out. Whats this product you're taking about? Where do u get it from? Why is the hairdresser using a bleach and not a highlift tint to gradually change the colour? Are they putting pure bleach on?

When i first came here the hairdresser i went to used pure bleach on my hair, it started falling out and breaking off in clumps. I now have a high lift tint put on which takes my hair down to a light blond. Any reputable hairdresser in Dubai should be able to sort your hair out and be careful who colours it in the future . I wash my hair every day have it coloured every 4 weeks and it is now long and in the best condition it has ever been in

Hi there If they are renting an apartment, what type of pet do you have firstly...?? If it is a dog, for an apartment, I would say that Jumierah Lake Towers or the Dubai Marina is the best place unless they find you an apartment that is also surrounded by villas... but, most of the areas are concrete and sand, unless of course, you rent a villa...... I think it would be best to press the company for an idea of the area so that you are able to do some research... Also, note that it will be warm then... the summer will have already started so the best time to walk them will be early morning and late evening as the day time will be too hot, but, the dogs do adapt to it quite easily... hth thanks The Greens have many people with dogs and you have the lakes with grass, trees and poop bins

Hi ladies, Though I still have a few months to due date, I was wondering how does the process of registering a baby here in Dubai works and how complicated is it to get him a passport and residency visa. A neighbor told me the local authorities require that the baby carries the same nationality as the father (and not the mother). Is this true? Is it true you have to provide your marriage certificate? Any info would be appreciated :) I would of thought marriage certificate was standard practice here otherwise all the ladies who have given birth out of wedlock would be able to stay and register their kids

Thank you both for that, serves me right for doing a search for 12, not twelve :) I must have mistakenly understood that I read somewhere on here that there has been a recent new amendment which allows the LL to evict a tenant at the end of their contract without having to give any sort of reason. Clearly, that's wrong - or rather, landlords who try it on will be fined if the tenant moves out and later finds out that the property has been rented out again at a much higher price, I think? I have not heard of a new amendment and neither have my 2 friends who work closely with the rent committee
