Hi all, expecting a baby in September and wanted to know what type of washing powder mums use here? It's very hard to find a non bio one here as mostly what I see in the shops are the bio powders. Is it safe to use for babies clothes or is it best to try and find non bio? Thanks in advance x Fairy you can get it in Spinneys, some branches of Al Maya, Choitrhams

Hello, I need a second shelf for my oven. There is just one metal rack and then trays which are not very sturdy. Is it best to go to the oven company service centre, or is there 'a man' who does this kind of thing that I should be aware of? Any advise/recommendations would be much appreciated! FFx My friend was telling me about this and she bought one in the UK ( very cheaply i may add) I had a look around the supermarkets last week but did not see any If i do come across any i will let you know

Hi ladies, I know this has been covered before but I am a bit confused. Last week I checked flights with EK to the UK and they were 2,670aed return. The grid showed every square had this price. I just checked the same flights this morning and they are 5,310aed! Is there a chance they will go back down again? Does anyone know when the next EK sale is? Seems ridiculous they have doubled in price in a week. Can anyone advise how to get the cheaper prices. My dates are 9th til 18th May. Thanks, TDB I was going to ask the same. To Manchester in August is 5170!!!!! this is ridiculous and eventually they will have the monopoly on the flights. Qatar is cheaper but only 2 seats left on the day i want to go and Etihad is the same as EK.

If I were the OP, I would choose Garhoud over the other two places. Why? There is too much traffic in Al Qusais and Silicon Oasis is located on a big highway, which means lots of driving. Garhoud is very central and a very convenient location. Me too. When i first moved to Dubai i lived in Al Garhoud and loved it! Very central, could walk to the airport haha

Can anyone recommend a cleaning agency where the cleaners are actually good at their job and diligent? I need someone to come in and do a full on clean and tidy this week, but the last company I used was awful. I used to use one where they send 2 cleaners as standard but can't remember the name... Anyway if anyone has suggestions I would be most grateful. I just want cleaners who take a bit of initiative and get on with things without me having to be there to point out anything other than mopping/hoovering! Thanks :) I have heard there is a good one called housekeeping company and it is run by a British lady who will come out with the cleaners on the 1st visit. I do not know their number though

I would always be careful researching on the internet as it can tell you wrong information and then your already fraught mind goes into overdrive. I cannot give you any advice but my thoughts are with you and your Mum x Friends of mine who did have BC had different treatment programs. Some had chemo others not, so it is different for all. Which country is treating her? edited by sarahlou123 on 28/03/2013

I am aware that tecnically it is, however as people also know that have been here long enough, there is no issue with someone in the same street working at a neighbours or such, it happens every day without issue and really why shouldnt it ......... To many jobs worths out there for my likeing, clearly you have too much time on your hands !! It is not an issue until something goes wrong ;-) and i doubt anyone on here would share their maid. Have a great weekend Signed one of the jobs worths lol

I am a landlord as well but we dont expect our tenants to move out unless we give them a years notice and as per RERA we kept the tenant's rent the same as per the 1st year even though they are paying 20k under market price but that the law and only fair so not all landlord's are bad news. ;) You can increase the rent after 1 year provided the rental calculator stipulates this. The "not increasing within 2 years" no longer applies and hasn't since the beginning of 2012 It is nice to hear of a decent LL :-)

Our landlord sold our apartment without telling us. The new landlord gave us 2 months to get out as obviously we were paying a lower rent than what he could get. We refused and said you have to give us a years notice but we were happy to pay the standard 5% increase and he was more than welcome to go to RERA. He came and met us and we still stood firm, a month later we received a year's written notice to vacate and we only paid a 5% increase :) I think that now tenants are sticking up for their rights the LL have to abide by the law! Well done you!

I got some made at Azores in Satwa with some lovely fade resistant outdoor fabric. I love them! FFx Were they expensive and where in Satwa is Azores ?thanks! I got them done with some other covers and also got a foam insert for my bench, so I don't know exactly how much I paid for the cushions, but I was happy with the price. Azores is on "Plant Street", which during this exercise I found out is not actually called plant street, but if you go down Al Wasl, heading away from New Dubai then it is the street immediately on the right after the Iranian hospital. It is about half way up that street. I'm sure someone else may have much better directions! FFx I know plant street so will have a look. Thank you so much!

Hi Dilema,,,,,,,, our made heads back to Sri Lanaka for 4 weeks from the 8th April. I have just been called to London on the 7th for a week and then my husdband works away and will be away end of April. I can't see me coping very well with 3 kids , work and no husband and no maid ! pathertic eh !! Does anyone: Have a spare maid they arent using( i know that sounds awful) maybe if they are away over easter Know of an agency I can hire one from for a month without paying cazy money/ deposit etc Live on Silicon Oasis and have a maid wanting part -time UK family - fairly tidy , just to help with washing cleaning ect etc the norm .... Any ideas greatly apppreciated It is illegal to use a maid unless she is from an agency Personally i wouldn't do it as it isn't fair to the family that sponsor her and if anything goes wrong she faces deportation and you are in for a massive fine. Not worth it at all

A friend is visiting and she usually went to a nail salon in JBR at a mall, think she means the Oasis towers as she mentioned that there is a kind of roundabout in front. Do you know the name of the salon by any chance? There is a Tips and Toes at one of the JBR buildings I do not know about Oasis towers sorry. Perhaps an internet search would show it :-)

Glad you found some nice Emu's. If you want Uggs in the future you can buy them directly from Ugg in America and they will ship them here for a flat shipping fee of $50. If you are ordering lots of pairs this is probably fairly good, however if it is just one pair of a cheaper item it may be most cost effective to use shop and ship. http://www.uggaustralia.com I plan on getting a few pairs delivered in the autumn, they do some great new waterproof boots that my mum got last year and my Merrells are knackered. Glad to see the usual expat woman judges are out and already questioning the op on why she should or should not buy Uggs. It makes me laugh too. Perhaps they need to get a hobby lol

Original UGG in Dubai Mall at the new shoes level. Why do yuo want to buy them ? [b'>They are already out of fashion in Europe[/b'>.... So? Dubai is full of clones as it is, if everyone stuck to wearing strictly what is in fashion, it would be even worse. Perhaps the Poster isn't a fashion victim and likes to wear what she wants ;-)

Maybe you could get an other quote to compare. I have made 3 large cushions and 2 small with a fabric of 45aed/yard for 280Dhs, the shop next door was asking 490Dhs for the same... I am going to ask in some of the other shops The cushions are just standard chair size ones if that makes sense Thank you

We are in exactly the same position - our landlord is one of the banks and they are selling our apartment. Our tenancy is up at end of April but we have a rolling tenancy with 3 months' notice for either party. Some of the viewers have been interested in keep the property as an investment but one told us his family were moving in and that we would have to be out in 2 months (doubtful he is going to move family in and will be putting up the rent). Will our new landlord still have to give us 12 months' notice or will the current terms of our tenancy apply - 3 months' notice and will he still have to charge us what we are currently paying or can he demand an increase? I refuse to pay more than a 5% increase and will move out if he tries to charge us more - what notice do I have to give him, although I presume he will be more than happy if we leave as it means he get new tenants in an hike the rent by 10k a year. 12 months written notice is the law regardless of who the LL is Ring the rent committee and they will tell you the same He can only increase via the rental calculator, this is law too

For people on visit visas, RTA say they can drive private vehicles if they have an International Driving License. Our insurance company (RSA) say that if RTA say they can drive, then they are covered under our policy(over 25years). Even in writing i would not trust the above. It is such a grey area and people are being told so many different things on a daily basis. I have always been informed that you can only drive a private vehicle if you have a UAE licence

When we asked the RTA about driving a private vehicle on an international license they said no! Rental vehicle fine, private not. Clear as mud as usual. I was told the same 7 years ago and again a year ago

Hi, does anybody know where we stand if our Landlord sells our villa? We have been in dispute with him and think we have won (more on this later). But he is still going ahead and selling the villa. Does the new owner have to take us on, does anybody know? Our current landlord cannot kick us out, but I am wondering what the legalities are if we get a new landlord. Thank. It should roll over with the new owners. Your landlord has to give you 12 months written notice to vacate The rent committee can confirm this

Now if they only were to show this on all incoming flights [b'>there would be a lot less 'mishaps'.[/b'> http://video.news.com.au/2281511855/Dubai---the-rules Informative and amusing too :) you really think so ?? You think that the types of people who behave this way would take any notice of a video ? How many people take their belts off and start emptying overhead lockers the millisecond the plane touches down, even after being told not to....how many people even pay attention to the safety video/instructions ?? entertaining little video but in my opinion there will be plenty who won't take any notice.... Also, in the list of arrestable offences they mention spitting..... really ?? spitting's illegal here ??? Yes spitting is illegal When you have had a lovely DHL driver hawk one up and spit at your feet you may understand why. Use a tissue or a hankerchief it is disgusting

Hello, I'd like the know if you've done this before? How do I go about getting permission from relevant (which?) authorities for converting the garage of my house into a room? We live in The Villa and do not know where to start? Have heard from my builder that there's no way authorities will give permission but I'd prefer to do my homework first. Thanks in advance! Who is the developer? They may know
