It does feel like Thursday though! How many people are getting Sunday off work from their employers? Afternoon :-) That is so unfair!!! However if I got it, it would be taken out of my holiday allowance anyway - might as well go to work :( I have to take my friends to dolce and karama would rather be at work!

We hd a Canadian friend visit on a visit/tourist visa last week. I sent our insurers (AXA) a copy of his Canadian driving licence and they sent me an amended policy document with him named on the policy, so it's worth asking, and worth getting it in writing. But what would happen if he was pulled over by the police? Could they say he was driving a private vehicle without a valid license? I I thought to drive a private car you have to have a residence visa The car is insured not the driver ( I think)

Well I love Choitrams - much cooler and less confusing than Car4 in MOE. They will deliver too - poor guy with a trolly! They have every thing you could ever want in a smallish shop! Also -- don't think anyone mentioned the wonderful health food shop - up near Standard Bank - have things from all over the world plus organic vegs. and meat! Plus stuff I have never seen before! Also - don't forget you can take the BUS 93 to MOE - leaves outside the Greens Shopping Center - cheap, clean and cool - but slow! Goes about every 20 mins. Crowded at weekends. I love the guy who pushes the trollies home he says hello to me everytime i go in there My friend buys trainers for him I know what you mean about C4 however Choitrhams prices vary from week to week depending upon who is pricing the items! I live very close to Choitrhams and was going shopping there every day. I am trying to curb my addiction by going once a week haha Dont forget Wagamamas yum

Unless things have changed you need a current residence visa to drive here using a UAE license. Check with the RTA in case there has been any change in this though. If your son is a first degree relative of the registered owner of the car he can drive your cars using a license from one of the approved countries. This is what the RTA advised us a bit over a year ago. I wouldnt rely on this as my friends Dad was in a prang and the insurance company wouldnt agree to this. It is a very grey area

Hello ladies! We moved here a week ago and just found a short term rent apartment in the greens (one of the tall new buildings). We are moving in today, hurray! I liked the area by just reading around and looking at pictures on the web, and I love it now that I see it. As I am a newbie, should any of you have any suggestions on where to do grocery shopping around here, with or without car, I would be most grateful! And, of course, should you have any tips or suggestions regarding anything else in this area (cafes, restaurants, areas to go with children – I have a 4yo son, etc) that would be super. Ps. To be honest, when I’ll manage to have an hour to myself (which reminds me I have to call a maid&babysitter agency), I would love to go for a girlish treat, like a manicure.... I’d love to know if there is any good place walking distance here :-) Thank you all in advance! Choitrhams at the Greens is overpriced massively. I went to the same store in Al Wasl and the price difference was huge Lulus in Barsha, Carrefour at Mall of Emirates and Union Co-op at Barsha Mall are so much cheaper. Tips and Toes are in the Greens village ( where the shops are) If you need pork go to the organic cafe which is at the back of the shops I live near Nandos welcome!

If you are looking at moving here in 3-5 years time i wouldn't even bother asking that question now Alot of things can change in that timeframe and it is far to soon to be asking. Not all good roles require degrees and Western candidates are still highly sought and paid well It is depends on the company, the role, being here at the right time Alot of roles are secured by knowing the right people, some reception and admin roles are well paid however they are far and few between.

I don't think he'll be able to get a satisfying job as a cook for a family. He could try working for an Italian restaurant though, there are several here and always looking for new chefs. Since you mentioned he had a restaurant before, maybe he could try starting something of his own also, although that might require a bit of an investment. Or, he could also give cooking classes (I'm sure some of the people in this forum will tell you that's illegal to do so without a license, etc, etc, but it's always an option) Good luck! Being Italian could he work as a cook for a family? Would this not be illegal unless he was sponsored? and does the cook not fall under the maid category for which an Italian would not be allowed to do?

Thanks a lot! I have sent mu CV to lots of schools...I also went in person to many of them, and yes, I noticed that British Curriculum schools hire teachers familiar with their national curriculum.. What compensation should i expect? What is the minimum i should agree on? I am new here so I am afraid this will be used aginst me somehow!! Anything from 4-12,000AED per month Local hires tend to be paid less ( No housing allowance etc) Nationality comes into factor also ( wrong i know) Experience If you have a teaching degree or diploma The schools budget etc etc etc

I know this is a weird request....but has anyone seen a nice box for cuff links to be stored in? I want a good quality one as a present. I had look around Villagio and couldn't see any! That did surprise me. I thought there would be a good selection here. It is just not the kind of thing you look for very often! If you happen to have seen any whilst shopping please let me know. I would be so grateful as time is not on my side! Do you have Centrepoint in Doha? I got my jewellery box and a watch box there ( Dubai branch though)

It is family....which makes it so much harder.... My main concern is if I don't say anything and then said person finds out I knew and didn't tell them will they be upset?? If it was me I would want to know, but I suppose it is different when you are actually in the situation. without hesitation i would tell family members and stuff the consequences. My closest friends and family would always tell me and i would expect them too.

If you knew someone was having an affair? Would you confront the person having the affair? Or tell the person being that is being cheated on? I would keep out of it full stop, as hard as it is it can hugely backfire I tried to tell a friend once and she is still with him and never spoke to me again Unless the person is family or a very very close friend it is a hard thing to do and they may not thank you for it

great feedback from everyone thanks! So I could actually be quite grateful for the heat and Ramadan if it means that the roads and the malls are a little more quiet! That will be good for me practising with the new car. I guess for the first few weeks I will be indoors unpacking so it all doesn't seem to drastic now afterall! phew! Thanks again and good luck everyone with your respective moves! The roads will be very busy at peak times ( People have reduced working hours therefore it can be like a racetrack between certain times) Iftar starts at sundown so i would avoid the roads then Weekends during the day are wonderful as they are empty. Friday morning is always a good time to explore in the car. I used to go out on my own and it didnt matter if i took a wrong turn as it was quiet :-)

No i dont want to be doing anything illegal or hire someone that is on a visa from another sponsor. Is it possible then to get an agency maid say 2hrs a day for 5days a week? How much is it likely to cost me? Can anyone recommend a good agency? Thanks Ladies.... Hello agencies vary from 25dhs per hour to 40dhs ( a minimum of 4 hours is usual practice) Housekeeping co has a good reputation and they have a UK owner i think I do not know their website but believe their number is 0505588095 There are many threads about agencies ( You can use the search bar)

Hi Ladies, Some advice needed please. I have two small kids (Aged 1 & 2) and work 4days a week. I need some help but dont think i need someone full time as I am not there 4 full days from 8-5pm.... I am at home Thur Fri and Sat... I would love to have a bit of help every day or maybe every other day....and the days I am off. What is the best way to go about getting this? Is it possible to get someone part-time...say a few hours in the afternoon/evening and on the days at weekend? Does anyone recommend anyone that would be interested or available in doing this? Thanks Hello You will need to hire via an agency Part time maids tend to be sponsored by another family and this is Illegal The maid should not be working part time on the side. If she stole from you or committed another crime her sponsor would incur a huge fine, you would for employing her and you could not do anything as you should not be using her and she would be deported. Agency maids are the safest route to go down

If an employee goes on vacation and doesn't return on time, can we report him as absconding? Employee in question believes that if he sits and waits in his own country for 6 months, his visa will automatically be cancelled and he'll be able to come back in and get another job. So not sure if people who abscond while on vacation can be reported. Does anyone know? My holiday form advises that if i do not return within a given time ( without approval) then my visa is cancelled. I am not sure about absconders sorry. I would report him and i have just been informed by a colleague that you can report him for this and he will not be able to return

i would send a copy of the back and front of the credit card and a copy of your passport- both signed to the person who is travelling. Does she share your surname? That is where i had problems. Emirates said if my friend was stopped that wouldn't suffice as they wanted the original c/c

Hi I am in the process of booking a flight for my mother in law to come over from Johannesburg. I am using my skywards miles to purchase however when I am about to click purchase a message comes up saying: Important Information: If payment is made online by card, the same card must be presented at the time of check-in and the card holder must be one of the travellers on the itinerary. Failure to present the card will mean that all passengers in the booking will be denied boarding. This is not possible as she lives in Joburg. I spoke to Emirates and they said don't worry it is fine, but I am still anxious about it. Has anyone had the same issue? We just booked a rewards flight for my brother in law to come over from London and we didn't see this same message. I am wondering if it only applies to certain countries, South Africa being one of them? It is frustrating, as all the Ts & Cs say it is no problem using skywards miles to purchase flights for others. This happened to me recently however i wasn't using airmiles i was paying for a friends flight. Certain countries will allow you to do this however her departure airport Dublin wouldn't I had to pay by Paypal as i couldnt do it online with Emirates and when i called them they also told me i couldn't. Your Mum may not be asked to produce the card however there may be a chance that she will. I have been asked when flying myself. I would go into Emirates on SZR as i find them very helpful and they have rarely given me conflicting advice

I have never been scared, alone or pregnant in a country where I could be arrested so I don't know that fear. However, take the baby to a mosque or church! It sickens me to read this as I know several people including myself who if a baby were dropped off we'd care for it/ give it to the proper authorities and not subject it to this kind of torture. In the end it is torture. Poor little innocent soul. Just about to say the same, just completely shocking. I am sure they will find the mother, after all they take samples from all of us. When do they? DNA from our blood!! WOW! I did not expect that, as I knew that DNA tests are always expensive..... well, maybe after all they do it. Still, if the mother really don't want to get herself into trouble, she won't get herself into that state in the first place, once she become pregnant, she should just left, not staying her and dump the poor baby in the desert like disposable thing!!! there are so many ways the mother of that baby could do, and none of them are leaving the baby die like that, I do not understand any situations a woman put herself in, and reach that result. May this baby get the justice he/she did not get in this early life, I really hope the police do get the mother and the father, it's joint responsibility, and it's not only the mother. I highly doubt they will find her through DNA

I shudder to put up a Daily Fail link, but when I googled, this article was the best at demonstrating the different types available. :) http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/beauty/article-1350883/Sales-dry-shampoo-rocketing--YOU-buy.html Batiste it wont get the smell of cigs out of your hair tho Shame they do not do a Freebreeze for hair

Hi there, Sorry to hijack but we are going through something similar but just wanted advice please. Our LL told us he had sold the apartment and gave us new LL's name, number and email and advised us we had to be out at the end of our lease (May). Our lease is not a Non Renewable lease and we know about the 12 months notice etc. we in fact believe the apt hasn't been sold as we have googled new LL and we think he's a mate/colleague of our current LL. Our problem is - after the first years lease we renewed by email (been here 3 yrs), saying we renew as per terms and conditions of lease. So in effect we only have a blue lease (standard agent) for the first year and for the subsequent 2 years, emails stating a continuation under same t&c. We have gone to RERA and in typical Dubai style, one person told us we are in the right and can't be kicked out while another said the opposite. Anyone have any advice? Known of similar circumstances? Thank you, Curly If your lease says Non Renewable then unfortunately you are not entitled to the 12 months notice period. Also each consecutive year you stay in a villa/flat you need to get a contract drawn up and register it. The email continuation is not enough. Always have a contract never ever ever go by email only! You should always get a copy
