Has anyone seen jerk sauce in Dubai? I'm sure I have, but couldn't find in Waitrose this morning. Doing a Caribbean jerk chicken with rice and peas recipe for some friends on Tues, but isn't going to work without the sauce! I have seen the seasoning here but never the sauce. I remember Al Maya years ago stocking the reggae reggae BBQ sauce Perhaps call the usual suspects Waitrose or Park and Shop ( They do answer and are helpful)

Ladies My bridesmaid is looking into my hen night for me and I have a few concerns. She is wanting to make it as fun as possible and a night to remember but all I see is a train wreck. Blow up you now what, pole dancing,, half naked waiters etc etc I was thinking along the lines of something a little more classier. Ladies please give me your opinion and what did you do on your hen night? TIA I don't think I have ever seen a raucous hen night here. We saved that one for the UK and did a spa day here :-)

I'm TRYING to grow my hair after 15 years of having short hair, but finding it really difficult, my hair looks dull and I seem to get constant split ends. I've been using the Marrocan oil treatment for the past 3 months but don't see any improvement. Any shampoo/conditioner/treatment recommendations? I don't mind paying for the more expensive brands if it's been tried and tested ;) I don't use anything other than Kerastace shampoos,I avoid shops bought ones as they are full of soap which dries it out, filter on shower, only washing it twice a week My was cropped in 2009 and it is now past the small of my back. I find my hair grows quickly here however I only have it cut every 3 months and had extensions in for a year ( Very fine hair too) I don't think there is a miraculous tablets etc to make your hair grow really quickly. Moroccan oil wasn't great for my hair as it is fine, it just made it really really greasy. Thanks :) I was actually thinking of getting the kerastase serum when I'm back in UK, but maybe now I get the shampoo and conditioner as well. do you buy yours here in Dubai? I won't be back in UK until mid December and I'm really desperate to sort my hair out as asap. I use the Densifique which is for fine and switch between that and the bain satin, tbh there isn't much different in price versus the UK around 3-4 pounds difference I only wash my hair twice a week and don't use lashings of conditioner. I love Elvive for at home but it makes my hair so flyaway here. I still get new hair regrowth around my forehead :-)

Does anyone know what happened to Kay? I've been reading this thread looking at options for botox and she seems to have had good reviews!? I just want forehead area, preferably dysport and reasonable price is always ideal! If anyone has any other recommendations? I use DR Khan for Dysport and DR Rezai for Allergan. Both have given me excellent results although I have now found the longer I leave it ( Over 18 months) between treatments the better the results are.

Hey all! I was wondering why it is sooo difficult to find work in the UAE? My husband has a bachelor degree (from the Netherlands) and can work as a construction manager or planner. But they always ask experience! I know its important but the starters should have a chance also to get some work. He allready has an account on bayt.com etc.. but with no succes. The construction market isn't heavily recruiting at present due to the falling oil and gas prices Any roles that do arise are taken up by friends of friends. For certain roles "its not what you know but who you know" and there any many qualified nationals in the same industry actively looking for work Good Luck

Why why why??? UAE-based webpages just won't load, often, more so today, can't do any work because of that, and it's just so frustrating to spend so much time just staring at the blank screen. Back home my Internet speed was 100 Mbps and it cost me a fraction of what I pay for it here, here it's hardly ever reaches 7... And then it just doesn't work! Grrr.... It is slow here compared to back home as certain content is blocked here and there are numerous filters Have you done a speed test? I did one recently and although I have 16MBPS my download speed was 1.9!!! Du reset the line and the speed shot up It may be worth doing the test and making a complaint

Hey all-- with halloween around the corner i was wondering if anyone had any ideas about stuff to do with the kids? i remember last year at emirates hills there was a "ghost town" themed party, but don't see something similar this year. i heard about something at the polo & equestrian club but can't find anything online. i'd love some kind of outdoor halloween festival type thing (am i dreaming here?)-- and something i can bring the little one to for his first halloween (6 months old) ideas? Lots of ideas in Time Out http://www.timeoutdubai.com/aroundtown/features/67169-halloween-events-in-dubai-for-adults-and-kids,-2015

I stopped using them after paying for an annual contract and they couldn't come out for 24 hours to stop a major ceiling leak. They said can you wait until tomorrow whilst water was pouring out of the ceiling! I now use Must Have Maintenance and have also used Jim Will Fix it They charge 200 for the first hour then 150 thereafter

Hello, We are new to Dubai and this is going to be our first Halloween here. We live in Springs 8 with two kids 7 and 11 and we were wondering what is done here for halloween. Do kids go around the compound trick or treating? Does the community arrange something? I'm happy to receive any suggestion of what to do with the kids this halloween. Thank you. I live in the Greens and they organize a Halloween parade for Greens residents. Posters are displayed regarding this in our apartment buildings however I don't know where they would put them at the Springs Perhaps call Emaar and ask. Many kids still trick or treat around the areas, people who don't want to be bothered tend to turn their porch lights off

Something does not add up for me. The whole story seems to be a made-up one, to be honest. I cannot comprehend that a Western woman can be bossed around like that ("I have to wear an abaya" she says) and she is just ok with her husband cheating on her and has no one back home to help her. Is she an orphan, does she have no friends and family whatsoever, where did she live before moving to Dubai that suddenly she has nothing left in her home country? Sorry, but the whole story seems just wrong. Berberis, she mentioned in one of her posts that she's a refugee... Although not where from. Regardless, many women are in relationships where they are manipulated and controlled. Sometimes they don't even realise that it's happening, until it's way down the line. Do people really go to the trouble of making these things up though?? It may not seem to add up, but that doesn't make it fabricated?! The poster said she isn't a refugee with special status "Im not a refugee with special status" I do find it odd that she had to close her savings account however I don't understand the deregistration process in the Netherlands I am from the UK and when I left the country I could still keep my current/savings/credit cards . I just had to inform the tax office for tax office for tax purposes. It was the same in Germany so I assume the rest of the EU is the same if you are a resident of said country

Hi, I am from Ghana, I got a job as a nanny through an agency 4 months ago, Upon arrival to Sharjah, UAE I realised I have been deceived by the agency about the job, salary and working hours. I often work for 18 hours as a maid and a nanny with no day day off for 900 AED. The agency conned me .I discussed with my sponsor and she agreed that I refund some money to her in order to get a new maid to enable me search for a different job. I paid all my visa and medicals examination expenses as well. In addition to what I paid to the agency it all amounts to 9200 AED . I have read online that it's possible for my visa to be transfered to a new sponsor but my employer doesn't know much about that. She says she will ask and have not . Please I need help with information I have lost much money so I want to change job to be able to recover my money back plus not getting enough rest at my current job is affecting my health. I need advice please Go and speak with your Embassy, your sponsor ( the agency could ban you) so it is best to speak with the Embassy and get the correct advice

Would like to try something other than the Westin Bubbilicious, any ideas for something similar with kids area and great food. Anyone know about the Kempinski on the Palm? I took my friends and their 2 girls ( 7 and 11) to Talk and Soul at the Movenpick They had a kids area with face painting and games, it wasn't a packed brunch but nice and the food was lovely with a huge desert room! Hi - does anyone have a copy of The Art Forger that I can buy/borrow? There are no copies in the book stores in Dubai. Alternately, can anyone help with advice on how to download a reading app and buy the book online? I've tried to buy the book through iBooks on my iPad. The book is not available in the UAE iBook store, and although it is available through the iBooks USA store, my account "is not valid for use in the U.S store" Google play is not available in the UAE. Barnes and Noble Nook is not compatible with iPad. Many thanks! If you order from Amazon or Book Depository directly, it will take around 10 days to deliver Google Play is available here but only on an android device.

I'd hate to lose ehat's on them! Do you still have a VHS player? If so it is really easy to do and just requires a lead between that and your DVD player. If not then I believe Kodak shops may do it

Hi, I went to a GP first and was referred, went to MedCare clinic in Mirdiff had 4 removed. No scars at all, and only minor discomfort during the procedure. One was sent for histology and proved to be nothing sinister. They err on the side of caution here which is much better than my UK GP! Good luck. Hi. Hi All, Do I recieve any invoice for the (apartment) rent I pay through cheques? The reason I ask is that I might be able to deduct this amount from my tax in my origin country but I need a proof which is usually an invoice. If not than what might be a proof? Any experience? Thanks, hantee You should ask for a receipt for the deposit and photocopy pics of all the cheques. I have never been given an invoice as always rented via the landlord directly. If you are using a real estate agency ask them for one with a compnay stamp

I am having some work done on the carport of my Springs villa which will require some retouching of paint when they are done. I have called Emaar, and they have told me that there is no "color code" on file for the villas --- yet they require that we keep the same paint scheme as we are attached to the next villa. They have taken a chip for scanning but the color is noticeably off -- has anyone gotten a color code for their villa? The maintenance people are stuck and I have no clue how t proceed and, frankly, I don't either. I am in the Greens and when I was moving and had to touch up some point inside the apartment I went to ACE and the guy knew what colour the paint was for the Greens, failing that have you called Customer Care at Emaar, they are usually very helpful

I'm new to Dubai sort of. Moved in to one of the older-ish apartment in Downtown Dubai in Sept & need some recommendations on any maintenance companies that does aircon servicing, plumber, electrical & such. Had some minor things done before by someone from the building's maintenance & the real estate agent's recommended handy man & both did shoddy jobs. Very exasperating. Had a quote recently from a company & it was a bit steep. For instance, my tap only needs a change of washer & they insist we need a brand new tap the works. Would not give a detailed list of what we're paying for & requires an 80% deposit before they start on anything. Please do recommend me a "tried & tested" maintenance company. Thank you in advance. I have used both jim will fix it and must have maintenance. Both are British managed They usually charge 200 for the first hour then 150 for every hour after that I have never had any problems and they are serviced my air con/fixed the washing machine wall connector pipe/put up curtain rails, shelves, mirrors and ceiling light fittings
