it has become more but there is also a HUGE price difference in Spinneys vs. Carrefour/Coop. For instance, I buy those small red circle Babybel cheeses at Careefour for about 9dhs for a pack, the SAME pack at Spinneys is for about 18dhs! Not everything has such a difference in price but it gives you an idea of how expensive Spinneys/Waitrose can get! Al Maya downstairs is the same!!! hence I try not to shop there even though it is convenient Once I did a shop and compared the receipt with Tescos ( Where I shop at home) some items were slightly more expensive ( A dirham or so) and some items were cheaper. which surprised me There isn't a lot of cheap own brand choice here which I miss

I haven't seen a huge change but then i don't shop in Spinneys or Waitrose I tend to avail the offers and buy in bulk for cleaning stuff/dry/canned goods and cook from scratch and freeze meals For veg and fruit I go to Co-op. I now avoid branded stuff as the company's own brand is just the same I only use Spinneys for bread and pork products. My colleague has a Husband and a child and she says her shopping bill is around 400 per week which is the same as what she spent at home ( 2 years ago)

This is driving me crazy! I am trying to sign up for Careem but am getting nowhere. To validate my account, I have to enter a pin that careem sends to my phone. Easy, yes ? No! Every time I enter the pin that I am sent, it replies with oops, you have entered an incorrect pin. No I haven't ! And then I have to wait an hour to reapply. Aagghhhhh. If I didn't live in an area with no street names or villa numbers, I wouldn't even bother, but careem allows you to pin your house on a map, which means that they actually do turn up, unlike Dubai Taxis, who can't follow road directions! Anyone else had this problem? I have now made 7 attempts at this since last night! I think I might just remain a designated driver ? Why don't you call Careem customer service

I used to lose a lot here and as my hair is fine it was awful As the other ladies recommended buy a filter, avoid shop bought run of the mill shampoos as they are full of soap, buy decent quality shampoo and conditioner. I only wash my hair twice a week and use dry shampoo in between. I try to keep my hair covered when in the sun and if I swim in the pool I rinse my hair off once I get out , I rarely use the hairdryer and other heat styling equipment Diet can also play a big part. A friend of mine who is a hairdresser swears by biotin capsules however I am not convinced My hair is the same in the UK where the water isn't desalinated so I wonder if it has to do with my age. Even when living there I lost a lot of hair and would find it everywhere Good Luck

So there was water leaking and the water has been turned off and yet no one has accessed the apartment? As an owner I certainly would have done. Given that the rent has not been paid, the tenant is in breach of contract and it was an emergency, I'd have gone there and gained access to see what was going on. I ALWAYS keep a spare set of keys in case of an emergency situation. If the apartment has been left empty all that time, I dread to think of the state of it inside. Don't most people change the locks? I have done as I have no clue if any previous tenants have old keys. I do inform the LL of this but they have never asked for a spare key

The Doc didn't even look at our faces, didn't ask any questions and didn't mention anything. I told him I didn't want a lot and that I wanted some lines in my forehead to show still. 2 days later, I was completely frozen. My husband highly disliked the experience as well. I strongly discourage the clinic. There are some that are way better in Dubai." Not the best review above. This was from March 2015

I was wondering if anyone could help me regarding sponsoring a child if your a single mother I am from the UK. I have spoke to various people from immigration and the British Embassy but I am still unclear on a few things as they have told me conflicting information. I already have the below documents which I was told are required: My visa/passport 3 months bank statement Salary certificate Tenancy contract Sons birth certificate attested Copies of my son and his fathers passport Passport photograph of my son I have also been informed that I need an NOC letter from his father which is no problem however I'm told this needs to be attested, is this correct? if so how and where do I do this? I was also told my salary certificate and tenancy contract need attesting in Dubai is this correct and if so where do I get this done? Lastly I was told I would need a certificate or letter from the Embassy or from births, marriages and deaths to say I'm not married and also to be attested is this right? Just be aware that it takes at least 1 week for the results of botox to be noticeable, so if you are getting married in 10 days, you may not see the result you want until after your wedding. I use Dr Imran Tahir at British Lasik Clinic and as Sarah has suggested, you should ideally go with a reconstructive surgeon, which Dr Imran is, who knows not to oversell you treatment you do not need and does not allow you to have the 'frozen' look, unless of course that's what you want. Again, like other reputable surgeons recommended on here, they are more expensive, but the trust I have in them makes this worth it. I have only heard good things about DR Tahir :-)

I am on my mid 20's just the main reason to stop doing my angry face mimics. I don't really prefer to pay 1800-2000 dhs only for few injections so looking for a cheaper option... I have used others and the result was not the best Personally speaking I would only use a reputable reconstructive trained surgeon however they are pricier which is what you are trying to avoid After having it done try and wait 12-18 months between using it as this gives the face time for muscles to grow back and results are better when you do it again Do as much homework on this place as you can as cheap botox can means weak or cheap product Good Luck! Thanks for the feedbacks! I have asked already and they are using Allergan products... the plastic surgeon is applying it but you never know you'll be completely FROZEN after that! The frozen look only occurs if you have it done far too often. I have never had the frozen, shiny forehead symptoms and any reputable surgeon will tell you that only happens through obsessive use. I use DR Allen Rezai and always have. He is pricier but he knows what looks good and wont recommend ( as many other do) other unnecessary and expensive procedures. He is European trained ( UK and Europe) and is a reconstructive specialist plus a lovely man to boot. I used to use DR Khan ( He is very good too) but waiting lists are long and costs are high I didn't start until I was 40 and have it done every 12-18 months

Hi All, Has anyone come across any kind of cover for an induction hob. The Minister of Energy did an interview on this and Dubai Eye played it this morning I can understand to a point what they are doing however most people who have the big litre cars can afford the hike He said he wants the low salary staff to use public transport, however not all of the metros have feeder buses or parking He said the increase wouldn't be too high and Diesel will be coming down in price We will have to wait and see

I too this feel so. But most of the nurseries turn out to be so expensive and they provide day care services until 2pm max. I work until 6 so its not an option for me My friends Daughter goes until 5.30pm as she doesn't pick her up until then Babysitters don't exist unless you use an agency

Currently having a debate about whether you should or shouldn't lock your door while living here in "safe" Dubai... They don't lock theirs, I do. It's the normal reaction to lock your home right? Or is my friend right to feel *as* safe? Their argument is that they have a secure building with security etc etc I would still lock my door. My neighbor had a very drunk lady stroll into her apartment not once but twice ( She had the wrong building)

Exactly Preethihappy, no one wants a tragedy! Bottom line is if people take their children to the water park they must be constantly under their supervision, the Lifeguards are not there to babysit. Can you imagine the uproar if they had gone in to help these children and someone else had drowned while they were doing so. I feel for these Lifeguards, damned if they do and damned if they don't. Yeah, I dont really want to see anyone fired either. I was just shocked that they were standing there watching too. I will leave it, wished I had found the parents and said something. Perhaps they are not allowed to. I know it doesn't make it right but if that is "company policy" ( Hate that word) then so be it Did the boys not have the inflatable floats with them? and as others have said where were the parents. Who would leave their child unattended at a waterpark

Anyone ever used Dr.Viel? He is also at Healthcare city and seems to regularly feature in magazine articles... I was considering going to him for botox (it will be my first time!) To be honest all the top surgeons here are good. If they have done or do reconstructive plastics then they will all know what they are doing I know of people who have been to him and have had no complaints I use DR Rezai because he was the most cost effective and he is a really nice chap who takes his time to explain everything and wont do procedures for the sake of it. Plus I now get a discount :biggrin:

Just wanted to know if my employer is allowed to change my housing allowance stated on my contract ? The law states that an employer cannot change the terms of an employment contract without the employee’s permission and agreement so if you will be losing out you can make a case at the Ministry of Labour. The ministry is generally very helpful and supportive to employees and you can contact them on 800 665.

I am usually very careful where I buy my products. However through a quick bit of stupidity I purchased a laptop charger from a small kiosk in a mall. Being very stupid I just assumed that being in a mall that all outlets could be trustworthy. How wrong I was. The item purchased was in a sealed box and a very well known brand. I paid by card and kept my receipt. The charger did not work at all. We even tried it on another laptop to make sure it wasn't the battery of the computer we had bought it for. Still did not charge. So we went back to the mall concerned and took in the charger and the box and the receipt. Please also note that this was within 2 weeks of purchase. The seller refused to exchange, refused to refund and said he couldn't do anything. He said it didn't come with a warranty . The receipt was not good enough at all. After lots of heated exchanges he said he would send it to his dealer and see what he says. Basically if the dealer wants to exchange it, he might, but if he doesn't then we only have the choice of taking the faulty charger back. So please just be warned if buying ANYTHING from anywhere, even in a mall , either get a warranty and make sure it is a warranty that is a good one or BETTER STILL go to a reputable store that has a warranty as part of their sales. Luckily I have learnt a lesson buying in haste and thankfully haven't lost a fortune. Obviously you would expect such a practice in possibly such places as Karama but I just was stupid and thought that in a mall it would be different. How wrong I was. So if I can warn you all then thats a good thing. Call the DED they have recently made a shop refund a friend due to damaged goods The DED is there for this purpose

Sorry cannot remember on which Friday of each month it happens. Search for it . I am sure you would find some thread or a website. Hi all. I am looking at hiring a live-in maid for general housekeeping and taking care of my 2 babies. I came across the adv. of maids.ae and spoke to them. They say I can personally meet the maids and choose who I like to employ. They also say I can ask for a replacement if I don't find her suitable. I wanted to know if anyone has had any experience using the full-time live-in service from this company. I wanted to know about the quality of the maids, the 'options' while interviewing or asking for replacements. Also I'm hoping this is purely legal, since I'm not sponsoring them myself. Any reviews ? Hello everyoneee i just recently moved to dubai and i don't really know any hair stores here and i was wondering if their are any  hair extensions which can be clip on and off i mean back when i was in the uk i know alot of stores there that have that but i can't seem to find one here if any of you know a store that has that plz do help me Apparently by the edge at Mercato sells them. I bought my new ones in the UK as they are so expensive here compared to home and it was easier for me to match the colour. It would work out cheaper than here

At the metro stop at Deira City Center there is a large discount store as you step out from the metro station. They sell loads of souvenirs for cheap. Day 2 Day Discount center. They do cheap toiletries too :-)

Hello everyoneee i just recently moved to dubai and i don't really know any hair stores here and i was wondering if their are any  hair extensions which can be clip on and off i mean back when i was in the uk i know alot of stores there that have that but i can't seem to find one here if any of you know a store that has that plz do help me Apparently by the edge at Mercato sells them. I bought my new ones in the UK as they are so expensive here compared to home and it was easier for me to match the colour.
