Hi there, is anyone able to help me with an employment query? I have been offered a job to work part-time as an accountant for an individual. I am sponsored on my husband's visa and have an NOC from him. The contract I have been asked to signed says that I am to be considered a consultant and not an employee and therefore have none of the associated employee rights. The contract is for 2 years and requires me to give 12 weeks' notice. It also says it is governed by English law and it hasn't been issued in Arabic. Will the contract be enforceable? Do I need a work permit? Is the employer being naughty here, should they really be employing me? Do I need to set myself up as a company? Any advice would be gratefully received! hello 1 Is the employer providing you with a labor card as they should under the law 2 UAE labor does state 30 days notice period however companies are able to extend that however you both have to agree 3 Yes you need a contract and the company has to lodge an Arabic version with the MOL or FZ entity 4 I am not sure about the governed by English law as that would not be applicable here and if you had to seek advice how could you go to the MOL as they don't follow English law

Hi ladies, Do you have any suggestions, reviews or experiences of places where I would be able to do a 3D or 4D ultrasound during my pregnancy? I did some googling but couldn't find much here in Dubai. Really appreciate the help, thank you! There are some older threads if you pop in 3D 4D and ultrasound The one below is a newer thread http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic64443-i-had-a-4d-ultrasound-today-forum13.aspx Allied Diagnostics do them and they are a well known place here

I have never had a pap smear test and mainly because any medical procedures get me nervous. However, can anyone recommend where it could be done in Dubai? Please please please go and have one. It is really important that you have these done. They don't hurt at all, I think most people just find it a bit embarrassing however once it is done you will realize how painless it is I use DR Liliana at Healthbay she is a lovely lady with a great bedside manner. Promise us you will go as this is an important checkup to have

Hi, has anyone tried this? My husband has been suffering from a chest infection for the last 4mnths, doctors said it will just take sometime to go but wondered if this salt cave therapy may help? I read about this online and experts claim there is no evidence to back up claims it will help any ailments, they claim that it is no different to relaxing at home for an hour. I know of no good scientific evidence about this approach and see no reason why this should be any better than relaxing in any other quiet environment,’ says Professor Edzard Ernst, a physician and former Professor of Complementary Medicine at Exeter University Malayka Rahman, research officer at Asthma UK, says that while some sufferers have noticed short-term benefits, it is not clear whether that’s down to salt or simply the effect of an hour’s relaxation

Does anyone recommend a bank that does not charge huge commissions to transfer money back to Europe? Thanks Shop around the exchange houses in the malls. The larger the sum the more chance you have to haggle for a better rate

I have the Dyson cordless which is great as you don't have to lug it around the house the only downside is the charge lasts 30 minutes but its handy to go over the car and do the balcony I then bought a steam mop from Lakeland which I use for the floors, the oven, cleaning around the bath etc

Would she be willing to come to Mirdif weekly for 3/4 hours? I would question her sponsorship before you employ incase of insurance purposes. Maids are supposed to be sponsored by an agency or by a family that they work for . If she is neither then technically she is illegal and if she steals from you or has an accident in your home then there could be repercussions Personally speaking I would employ employ a legal maid however it is up to you

Hi, I have just been offered a post in this area. I'm currently living in the UK. Just wondering if I could ask ye a few questions such as the cost of items such as towels etc I'm not sure what to bring over with me. Also cost of living for a single person , as far as I know so far my accommodation will be provided. Thanks in advance. Any advice appreciated. Towels are cheap and you can them in the supermarkets here Cost of living here is hi however if you are savvy, don't shop in Waitrose and brunch every weekend then you should be fine What salary are they providing you with? make sure you accommodation is paid for as that is the biggest expense Without knowing your salary it is hard to say what your standard of living will be

That's great I will surely check it. I also just go through an article: , according to this, a landlord must provide a 90 days notice while increasing the rent amount. Yes the LL has to give you 90 days notice and the law is very clear on this. If they haven't then tough I had a similar predicament with an ex LL who didn't know the law however I just kept telling her I had got legal advice from the rent committee and this is the law. I didn't get into drawn out arguments and just kept to the facts and the law. They cannot do anything to you and certainly cannot kick you out. If they didn't check the calculator before then that is their error. Stand firm :-)

This area has been down since 2016 and the only thing I could suggest is that he approaches companies directly. Please be aware he will not be able to sponsor you as you aren't married although people do co-habite here with no problems it's always best to keep your head down if you are living together whilst unmarried Good Luck

I know this had been probably discussed earlier but i could not find any threads or posts. Anyone knows any good make up artists that can be either working in a saloon or freelancers? Those that would be able to do regular evening make-up and also bridal make-up for not crazy prices and not over do it? (I like the natural look but in some saloons felt the make up was overdone to the point i couldnt recognize some of the girls) So far I have heard of one make up artist that charges 600dhs for evening make up and 8000 for bridal. That seems like a lot especially for bridal make up considering my preference is for natural look. Really would appreciate it Sadly they aren't cheap here and many aren't that great either! ( In the past i have been left looking like Beetlejuice) they can pretty much charge what they want which is ridiculous as the lady i use in the UK is amazing and only charges AED200 for full face and lashes and she comes from Illamasque/MAC Good Luck with your search! . Honestly the prices are outrageous considering its also a risk! I am beyond surprised with Dubai prices. I was recommended an app today. ( I have no affiliation with said app) It is called vaniday and I saw whilst flicking through some makeup artists and the prices weren't too bad. I don't know if any of them are good but you could ask if they do a trial run before you commit to booking for the day

Before I was shipping it from UK to UAE, but now it's available in Dubai. Give it a try A fruit and veg supplement will not help with acne scars at all

I got mine done at We Nails before the holidays. They did a pretty good job with mine, I got rose gold chrome. but after about a week, the chrome started to wear off in the corners of my nails. Regardless, my nails still looked great and I enjoyed them. They are a bit pricey tho, I paid 160 dhs. I believe Dollhouse does them as well but I haven't been there so I don't know how they are. I have read some reviews about them. How long ago was this? Because the price i saw was different... so I am wondering if they changed for 2017 Dollhouse charge AED100 for the chrome, they also have to apply gel or it doesn't work so add on another 80 then in addition if you want a manicure that's another AED60. Without manicure AED180 with AED240

Sourskittles - thank you so very much for your post and for the links you provided. I will definitely keep a note of them and use in the future :) Are they any good? I really want something to give me a professional blow dry look. It was rubbish for fine hair and mine kept getting tangled in it. It was also quicker for me to blow dry it with the hairdryer and a regular brush

Hello ladies, Can anyone recommend a shop that has currently good sales on for bed linen? I am looking for a duvet cover, fitted sheet and pillow cases for a queen bed, ideally max AED 500 in total with thread count 200-300+ or ideally more (this is what I can get in IKEA). I was thinking Pottery Barn but they don't include bed linen in the sale, and The White Company is closing down and doesn't have full sets any more / has slightly odd sizes. Thank you! I've bought some high thread count sheets from www.next.ae and they have some lovely affordable bed sets. They deliver within 3 days and if you spend a minimum of AED120 they deliver for free

Hi ladies, I am looking for recommendation for a hairdresser who can cut hair well. And won't charge ridiculous amount for that. I am not looking for fancy salon recommendations. So excuse me all ladies naming and faming roots, salon ink, slam, pastels, sisters Etc Anyone charging ess than 200 Dhs please? I had a chat with my hairdresser who is one of the salons above and asked her why the prices are so high for services here She said it is because of import costs of products, rents, staff salaries, rents and medical insurance. Because they pay the stylists more here the salons have to sadly offset the costs to the customer. There are many freelance ladies who come to your house, perhaps they charge less as they don't have the salon overheads.

Hello everyone. So I am here to help my dear friend about her problem. She's been my friend since we were in college. We're really close. To cut the long story short, her husband wanted to buy a new car. Since she loves him so much, she is very supportive wife. She would do whatever it takes to make their life a happy one. Her husband wanted to buy a Porsche so she is asking which Porsche car will suit a married couple. In addition, they still don't have a baby. Can you suggest guys? Thanks I would imagine that if the Husband wants a Porsche then he will know exactly what model he can afford Your question is an odd one. I would also imagine he will go to the showroom and test drive the models he can afford, I have never heard anyone ask which model will suit a married couple??

Hello, I am a UK citizen and been living in Dubai for the last 8 years. I recently changed my name legall by UK deed poll and last week I changed my name on my passport, whilst back in the UK. I am now applying for a new visa with a new company/job and am giving my new name and passport, but want to link the two people. I have an existing file with Emirates ID, the RTA(driving license) bank accounts etc etc. Anyone know what i need to do? Should i apply as a new person? Or send my old emirates ID with my application, so they can link the two profiles? If i do this, does anyone know what other docs they will need? The UK deed poll? Will it need to be translated? The company's PRO doesnt seem to know. (I actually got married, hence change of name but i chose to do it via UK deed poll, as i wanted to also change my first name, to the name I am most often known as. Help Go to immigration they will know

Sports City has some nice buildings but there is a huge amount of construction going on there. My friend lives facing the canal but as of yet no water in it. There are lots of supermarkets/restaurants/salons underneath the canal residences and Motor City is close by which has lots of shops There is no metro in this area so you will either have to rely on cabs or drive. Traffic coming in and out of town at rush hour can be terrible. Hessa street which is one of the main roads into town does get clogged at rush hour however do not expect the traffic courtesy on the roads to be like home. People push in, don't indicate, swerve between lanes etc however you get used to driving and identify what they are going to do before they do it. With regards to salons everyone has their favourite. Due to rising costs many people use Groupon vouchers ( Website) Voucher Scout app and the Entertainer app ( BOGOF) Their are thousands of brunches high end mad ones to low end quiet ones expect to pay anything from GBP133.00 to GBP55.00 for 3-4 hours free booze and food. Clothes are expensive here. A lot of people now order online from the UK. I rarely buy anything here now unless it has been massively reduced in the sales. There are so many shops here as malls are a plenty but as I have said the UK high street shops are usually 30-40% more expensive than home. I am sure you will have fun driving around and finding places that you like

Good day I was enquiring as a South Africa teacher with a Unisa degree in early childhood can anyone refer me to recruitment agencies hiring teachers for Saudi. I have found that many agencies refuse to hire teachers with distant learning degrees due to high amounts of fraud I can assure that my qualification is legitimate and Unisa is an accredited university world wide but because of a few fraudsters the rest of us innocent honest people have to suffer. Please if there is anyone who can point me in the direction of these recruitment agencies that can help I would be very greatful thank you I don't think there are any here Most schools advertise on their own websites

Oh the UAE scams. I thought these had all but died out Usually its the guy that approaches you in the street with a wound on his arm asking for money. Ask him to accompany you to the pharmacy to get him so antiobiotics and dressings and watch him slink away. The family who run out of petrol and have no money but are driving a top of the range SUV. I read somewhere that a professional beggar here was found to be making thousands out of nice, caring people. It may be cynical of me but it sounds like a huge scam.
