Hiya, Would appreciate if anyone knew of someone reliable selling their Nissan Patrol or Toyota Land cruiser. In Dubai, I am reluctant to buy used car from Dubizzle and places like that as many don't claim accidents and get their cars fixed under the table. If you know of anyone with a good car in good condition and relatively low mileage - that be awesome. //Mara My colleague has been buying and selling his cars on Dubizzle for years. He has never had any problems at all as he gets them thoroughly checked by a garage before purchasing. Why don't you go to Nissan and Toyota and ask if they have any demo cars for sale or any deals as the car market is down at the moment so they will probably have great deals on

Hi Ladies, My husband and I are considering returning to the UK in the near future and I had some queries with regards to applying for a visa/residency. My husband is British so he obviously does not need a visa. As I am South African so I do. I lived in the UK before, just after I finished school, for two years. I met my husband there and we came over to Dubai together 13 years ago and have lived here since. As we got married here and have lived here for such a long time I don't have a UK passport or residence visa for the UK. I have been looking on the UK visa website for information but the information is not exactly clear which visa to apply for in our circumstance. The only way it seems is to apply to join a person already living in the UK. However, we both live here and would like to go over together. Has anyone been through this process and could talk me through it? Or if anyone knew of an agent that could help. I will keep researching online and see if VFS Global can provide some assistance but would be great to get advice from anyone who has been through it. Thank you :) Go onto the website Expat forum. There is a British forum on there and so much information about visas and living in the UK I believe one of the posters knows a huge amount about the immigration and visa law Last year a friend who is a UK national moved from the UAE to the UK. His Wife is Indian however he had to move back first then apply for her to come later. Gov.co.uk may have a phone number to call, they are usually very helpful

I plan to rent my apartment directly with my landlady next year without the agent, but she says I will have to pay the municipality fee. What is this and is it my responsibility? Do they mean housing fee? If so I pay this through my DEWA bill and it is 5% of the annual rent divided by 12 If so then yes you are liable for it.

I wouldn't mind taking my 4 wheel drive back to the UK when we leave and then mainly using it to drive in Europe. It's a lovely Ford Explorer and we've just had a new gear box and engine so it's like new. I don't suppose we'd get much for it here as it's 7 years old now. Is it easy to get it taxed in the U.K.? Any recommendations for moving companies. Hi moms, Do you give your nannies / maids days off on public holidays? I am trying to search for the new regulations but couldn't find the most updated one. My nanny wants to have the New Years night off and 1st of January too saying that everyone is off that day :) I told her NO, but she can take another day off later in the month of Jan and she gave me "the look". If I say yes, that means we can say goodbye to our New Years plans to go out with friends that night. :( What does the law say? Thank you. Sadly maids do not fall under the same labor law that most other employees do. She is not entitled to the time off unless you agree to it Many families may compromise and give her a day off ( I have several friends that do this as they are usually off on the holiday so do not need her to be there)

We have a friend selling a flat and she will send her proceeds from the sale out of UAE as she is leaving. She was thinking of just doing it through her bank - but the fees are high (?) - though she did not ask yet. Are the Exchange Bureaux like Al Ansari used for this sort of thing too - are they safe for large transfers and are their fees lower than banks? What sort of % do the banks or the exchange bureaux actually charge in fees for larger transfers or is it a set amount? Any advice welcome - thanks. What country is she sending the money back too? Tell her to call them and ask what the costs are, she will have to fill out a money laundering form as I had to do this for sending 400GBP back to the UK.

Hi ladies, Currently 24 weeks pregnant with my first and I am looking at attending a couple of antenatal classes in Dubai. Sadly none of my friends have had babies here so I haven't managed to get any recommendations. Can anyone recommend good classes? There seems to be a fair few out there but it's hard to know which ones are good. Any idea of costs too would be appreciated. :) Pop in "antenatal" in the search bar above and it brings up some information I think most Mums to be do them at the hospital they are going to deliver at and if you go down that route the hospital can give you an idea of costs

If the AED13,000 is all inclusive do you know exactly what your take-home pay will be each month and how much they will be deducting for housing, medical, travel etc? Well 3900 AED is base salary, 3900 housing allowance....and an amount for travel allowance which totalled the $13000 per month. You have written both AED and $?? Is the salary in AED because if it is it is very low for a Mum and a child Factor in rent/utility bills and transport that will total around half of your salary without taking into account a maid ( live in 1500 a month) agency 2000-2500. Food, petrol, days out, emergencies, travel/holidays and eventually schooling. It is doable but very very tight and you may end up taking out loans or credit cards as many people do which then lands them in debt

Good Day. I am moving to Dubai, will be on a Spousal Visa. I am searching a Financial Administration / Credit Controller / Admin position within the Architectural / Imterior Design & Concept Designing / Construction or Real Estate industry. Except Bayt & emailing companies directly, are there any reputable recruitment agencies I can approach? I have more than 12 years experience, a certificate in Business Studies, a N6 in Interior Decorating & a higher certificate in Accounting. My ideal position will be administration of finances & working closely with an designer / architect or concept designer. Basically being very involved in the day to day running of the business wrt quotations, invoicing, client liaison & assisting the designer / architect indirectly with administrative support / research. Network network network. Research companies here and try to reach decision makers directly. Recruitment agencies will only contact you if they have a suitable role and they work for clients not candidates ( The reverse of a employment agency) Go and knock on doors of companies. Most people I know here got their role through knowing someone. Be aware though that credit control and financial administration roles are paid badly here and usually filled by candidates from the East who will command a lower salary ( I don't agree with this but that is how it is here) Good Luck

Her prospective work would sponsor her and she would then sponsor her children. My friend is German. Thanks in advance! This is the last info I have Yes, she can sponsor her child however, this is subject for approval from the Immigration Authority and as part of requirement she would need to provide an NOC letter from the father which should be fully legalized in Foreign Affairs and UAE Embassy from the country where it is issued and further legalization in MOFA in UAE is required. Also, the birth certificate of the child should be fully legalized as well. Usual requirements for sponsoring dependents will apply such as Attested Tenancy Contract, Latest Dewa Bill,Passport Copy & Visa, Passport Copy of the Child, Attested Employment Contract / Salary Certificate in Arabic, Emirates ID, 1 photo white background , Required Salary: AED Min 3,000 + accommodation or AED 4, 000 basic salary I hope she will be getting a good salary/housing and schooling as those costs would be huge here for a single mother

Hi, My sister is visiting me over the new years with her 3 month old daughter. As I dont have kids I have no idea how to take taxis with a baby in dubai! Do RTAs have car seat facility? Or do we have to get Ubers/Careems? For most of the time I will be driving them, with car seat but would like to know an option for them when I am at work or when I am drinking. Select careem kids when you make a booking I don't know how easy it would be to get a RTA cab with a car seat in it unless your Sister is bringing her own but then you would have to lug it about

To Sarahlou123 sorry a quick question about the Greens - can you BBQ there? thanks Hey they have bbq areas where the pools are but you are not allowed to on the balconies Some ground floor apartments have courtyards which are big however I think you would get away with a gas BBQ rather than a charcoal one

thank you for your responses - really helps - the Marina is probably a better fit and apartments come with shared pools and gyms. Would be nice to have a garden but maybe once I am more established I live in the Greens and love it. Its quiet, pet friendly, low level buildings, great public transport ( buses and metro) the buildings and common areas are well looked after, we even have a huge Christmas tree that has just been erected where the fountain is. They do lots of community outings and within walking distance we have shops and restaurants. I wouldn't live anywhere else ( Well Emirates Hills if I had the cash) haha

Hi Ladies Happy Holidays everyone Would like to share my sentiment with regards to finding a job as Teaching Assistant here in Dubai. Does anyone know the usual criteria they are looking for and the compensation for the post? I've had several years of experience as teaching Assistant in nurseries here in dubai but after I left my work last October I submitted like around 50 cvs to different schools and nurseries here. But no luck. Please advise. Need your feedback. Your response is highly appreciated Thank you ??? Try and reach the decision makers directly. I imagine schools get hundreds of CVs so you need to stand out Dress up business smart go into said nursery with your CV, speak with reception or try and meet with the Manager face to face. Sadly sending numerous CV's does not work anymore as many people are looking for work. Budgets for the new year are usually written in January and the roles released In February

Morning I am moving to Dubai on the 1 Jan and still trying to establish what area to live in. Originally my husband and I thought the Marina would suit us as we have no kids at home and it is close to public transport for me as initially I wont get a car. However on a recent 3 week stay there we realised that perhaps the tranquillity of your own garden space would be good. Please can someone advise me on: 1. JVC as a community - will I be able to meet people easily as I wont have a job (though hope to secure one). 2. Are there nice areas to walk/jog? 3. do the busses provide good transport links? Any advice is greatly received as it all seems very daunting Most buses go to the metro however the journey can be long due to the traffic and living out there I would prefer to have a car to get around. most people meet people through Husbands work colleagues, meet ups, coffee mornings etc. I cannot advise on areas to walk or job as last time I was there it was a bit of a construction site however someone will come along and give you more information and if you google JVC expat woman you will get some threads to look at http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic241791-living-in-jvc.aspx I think they also have a FB page

Hi I am in need of advice from anyone that can help. My husband had a job in a real estate agency but after 6 months they had still not processed his visa and now confessed that they were unable to process it leaving him unemployed. He has been searching for work in the real estate industry for over 8 months with no success. We have tried every method going. We have been to companies directly to hand out CV's, we have applied on websites and agencies but have got nowhere. My husband is Nigerian but has been in the UK most of his life. I can only assume that having a Nigerian passport is held against him when applying which is disheartening. He is hard working, loyal and dedicated . I am at my wits end and don't know what to do to help him. He is desperate to work and to get out of the house. Please if anyone has any suggestions or any contacts it would literally be a life saver. Thanks for any help expat family. May I ask who is sponsoring your Husband if he has a Nigerian passport? Are you sponsoring him? I would advice him to put a suit on, print off many copies of his CV and go around the sales offices of the large developers. Hi, this is a bit of a long shot but I was wondering if anyone is able to help. I have now moved to Abu Dhabi to join my husband who has already been here for 5 months. We need to get our Barbados wedding certificate attested/certified and are having a real issue with it. Has anyone managed to go about this or know anyone who might have had the same issue? Everywhere we try keeps sending us somewhere else and nobody seems to know the correct way to go about it. There is no UAE embassy in Barbados and no one here wants to touch it till its been correctly attested/certified. We have been told to try the UK embassy in Dubai next??? Ask friends if you could 'borrow' their nanny/maid for an evening, also if she could meet your son for a few hours prior to booking her. It's better to have someone look after him who comes recommended. Borrowing a friends maid is illegal. If anything bad were to happen then the sponsor is slapped with a large fine, said maid would be deported and she isn't insured. Really not worth the risk

Thanks Sarahlou, my concern with Dr Khan is that he wants to charge me for two consultations when I'm only going once! I have been quoted 1400AED which seems like a lot to just go and see someone (and if they all charge this, then surely it makes it difficult to see a few surgeons and decide who you are comfortable with?). I sort of feel like its all about the money...not the patient care... :( In theory you are having two consultations as they are two completely different procedures I paid AED1000 for one consultation years ago is he charging AED1400 for 2 consultations or just one? If it is the latter then that is cheap for here! because I had already done my research and spoke with several Emirates ladies who had used him then I was always going to use him and he refunded the fee off my overall bill. Surgery here is expensive and sadly you tend to get what you pay for. Other ladies may give you some advice however I can only go with what I know and I trust him and would use him again.

Hi everyone, I'm looking to have a tummy tuck and breast uplift/augmentation done and wonder if anyone has had these procedures done (or one or the other!) and would recommend their surgeon please? TIA Dr Jaffar Khan did my boob job 5 years ago, he has recently done my friends and she also had an uplift. No complaints/problems whatsoever. Hello. Just looking for some advice. I'm having an issue with my tenant sadly, as he keeps asking for an extension on paying his next rent instalment. I've already been kind and given one extension, but now it's impacting me as I have a mortgage payment due and my own rent due - being a freelancer and self employed I am constantly chasing payments and am owed thousands by various companies. Why aren't there any supply teaching agencies over here?? I am thinking of setting one up as there are so many mums who are teachers but don't want to work full time.....anyone know of any hurdles that are stopping me from setting this up???? Speak to the KHDA I imagine it isn't allowed otherwise someone should of thought of this. Aren't most Teachers are permanent contracts and sponsored by the school or their Husbands? Are supply teachers even a thing here?

It is the attestation that is the important bit for your spousal visa. No LL asks for a marriage certificate to be able to live together I don't know about other places but this is not true for Gardens. Nakheel ask for marriage certificate before completing rental agreement. Apparently that's how they keep that area bachelor free. Talking about old gardens behind battuta mall. It must be a recent thing as I have several friends who live in the gardens who aren't married

Hi, I visited Dubai last week, and had no help from estate agents in trying to find a property to rent/buy. Can someone please help me by recommending good estate agents for ideally buying or alternatively renting in the Dubai areas: JLT, Marina, Meadows,Lakes, Spring or even Bur Dubai initially. I am also fishing around for a good relocation company and have looked at many, most with really bad reviews. Can someone recommend a re locator they used to move from the UK to Dubai. Also, what are good health insurance providers that don't charge the earth for preexisting condition? Due to the issues i had with them i went straight to the Landlords propertyfinder.ae and justrentals.com are two sites you can look at to get an idea of area/price although Bur Dubai is very different to the other areas that you are looking at and they are differences in prices for villas and apartments Good Luck with your search

Hello Can someone advice me what's the best websites to shop by ship and shop? And what's should I use for sephora since they don't use warehouse addresses? Good luck with Sephora they won't ship to any freight forwarding companies. Flames 92 used to use Mybox for Sephora but I believe they put a stop to it earlier this year. I now order stuff to my UK address and friends bring them out. I shop at the main high street stores in the UK but do go into their UK counterparts to check if it is worth the price/shipping. I haven't been able to ship Debenhams or M and S though. The former as I don't have a UK c/c so it wouldn't let me and the latter for similar reasons

I asked on a FB page if there is anywhere to make a donation for the paper poppies this year as I used to get mine from Springs Town Centre years ago. Someone said they're no longer permitted to do this because of the new charity laws :( Informa at the Trade Centre building always had them at their reception. I can ask them on Sunday
