I don't think these have ever been available here I got my pin from the U.K. The paper poppies are sold by some U.K companies as I have seen them at their reception there is a poppy ball held here on 18 Nov and they have a FB page. Perhaps ask there Supporters of the Royal British Legion Dubai and Northern Emirates. I feel you won't get them here as raising funds for the RBL I don't think is allowed here

I'm returning to Qatar, this time Al Khor. I seem to remember it was a job to send money home to UK. Any up to date information and advice would be much appreciated. I used to use Western Union at Safari Mall. Last posting was China and after four months there could do online banking. Thanks in advance Western Union is very expensive to send money back to the UK, I would use your own bank in Qatar or one of the other currency houses

Hi Everyone! Bit of a random question, but I really hope someone can help! I have dual nationality and am due to give birth in Dubai in a few months. I was wondering, which of my nationalities will end up going on the childs birth certificate? Can both be listed (as it would be in the rest of the world) or is it just the one that's associated with your residence visa? Has anyone else been in the situation that can help? Thanks! My understanding is that is the Fathers nationality that the child will inherit not yours

I've been going to Healthbay Polyclinic for years, Dr. Jozsa (male) is of Hungarian descent with German training I think, absolutely amazing, very calm, smiling all the time and very understanding. Best to phone and ask about the price but the place is very well managed thus very clean and safe. I had my last one with DR Liliana at healthbay, lovely lady, I think the cost was 1500-2000 with Mamogram

Hi, We just moved here from the US. Currently we are living in Al Liwan Suites.I am also running into the same problem of not being able to watch my US shows like abc.com, etc. Everything seems to be blocked here. Not even able to stream anything for my kids. I have a 5yr old and a 1 yr old. Could some one please guide me about VPN mentioned above. Thank you! I doubt anyone will give their advice or name any on an open forum, technically they are illegal in the GCC and many of the sites are blocking them. You may have to Google and figure them out for yourself

We see a lot of graduate roles however they do tend to be for Emirati or Arabic speaking candidates and aren't the best paid. Yes experience is key and most companies prefer a minimum of three years work experience and even some here in the UAE. The job market is very quiet at present due to the oil and gas decline however I doubt it will be flooded with roles in Jan or Feb of next year. Many firms are making redundancies. The cost of living here is very high and sadly not all employers have increased salaries inline with the cost of living. Many people choose to live in Sharjah as accommodation is cheaper however the morning commute from there is horrific and the transport links can mean you have to set off hours before you start work. Personally speaking unless you have a huge amount of start up cash behind you or are residing in the region living with Parents or a Spouse then I would stay at home, get some experience behind you and keep an eye on the job market. With regards to attestation of documents yes do them in your home country and it should be your highest certificate attested

Hi , whats ur opinion about taking a flue shot ? Is it not destroying our immunity? Do u recomend it ? Cz now drs are recomending it unlike b4 i am afraid its just a trend . Mouth, handcand feet disease is infectiing kids . It is a virus that spread in play areas so watch out for ur little ones .several kids git infected it gives a slight temperature and some big pimples (sores ,rashes..like temperature soars .)around the mouth.if tye temprature us not controlled it can cause minangitis. It can also cause nail and toenails to fall .its usually safe uf controlled. DRS will recommend it here as it makes them money ;-) I have only had the flu once and that was over 15 years ago and I couldn't get out of bed for two days! The "Flu" word is bandied around when really it is usually a common cold that is gone within a week The NHS give a detailed guideline on who should have them here. http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinations/pages/who-should-have-flu-vaccine.aspx

How much is a midprice brunch? A few friends booked Toro Toro for a celebration and I found out it's 500 dhs with alcohol ?. I'm not good value on brunches, I do like a drink, but would have max 3 glasses of something alcoholic during a brunch, so I find it quite expensive while my friends been there before and says it's "not that expensive" for a Dubai brunch. Mid price is usually AED250 I avoid the AED500 ones like the plague as the equivalent of over GBP100 for 4 hours is outrageous. Perhaps the people that don't mind paying have huge amounts of disposable income. Toro Toro is nice but not worth AED500 Thanks, I felt so stingy thinking it's expensive, as I don't do brunches often and it's a special occasion I will go this time anyway. I am the same as you. I rarely go unless it is a special occasion. I don't like champagne so stick to spirits and they tend to serve the cheapest ones possible so it isn't worth the money and buffet eating gets so boring after a while. Toro Toro is nice as table service although I wish they would stop people smoking in there

The rules have changed, depending on which passport you have. The problem is trying to find the new rules. I believe it is only Schengen that cant do the runs and NZ isn't part of Schengen so doesn't apply I don't think the countries who get 30 days on arrival are effected at all. NZ is the same as the UK and my friend who renewed hers didn't have any issues at all.

Here is the route for ex pats UPDATE NOV 15 – the border “post” on the E44 is now occasionally restricted to non-GCC citizens. Previously you could cross into Oman to reach the Hatta Fort Hotel and pools without getting your passport stamped but this is no longer possible. If approaching from the south, you now have to go North on the E55, head east on the E102 before heading south to rejoin the E44 and transiting the Hatta/Al Wajajah border posts. If it is your first time renewing you can go to Immigration and extend once it used to cost AED500 however may of gone up since then

hi Saralou123, Thank you so much for your response, its the first time I've been able to smile since receiving the results. It took me completely unaware as my previous smears were normal! I've stayed away from googling but have done a bit of research from medical journals just to have an idea of what I'm dealing with. Thank you again for sharing your story  The internet can be great for information however it can also have the reverse effect as there is so many horror stories out there. Mine was my first abnormal one too however the Gynae was amazing and discussed all the procedures and treatments before hand. I do remember all of theatre laughing on the day though as it was a cold UK winters day and when they asked me to remove the bottom half of my clothing I had pink Winnie the Poo socks on which made them all laugh. They also attached a pad to my thigh which was a conductor to the electricity they used to remove the abnormal cells and a side effect is that your leg moves on its own accord ( Disco leg I call it) I had a huge attack of the giggles as did the Theatre nurse which eased the situation.

Hello Sorry if this has been asked recently but there seems to be a lot of conflicting information regarding this matter. THE NEW VISA RULES What I would like to know is what are the rules for a NZ passport holder wanting to extend their visit visa? Does anyone know for sure what my options are and where to go to extend and the cost? Thanks for any info Cheers Jo Go to Hatta and do a visa run, it costs a few hundred dirhams and you can do it every time you need to

hi ladies I just received my pap smear results and they show HSIL, I have an appointment with my gynae later in the week to discuss the colposcopy and possible treatments but am terrified of what this could mean as 2% of hsil cases have cancer already present. I am just looking for ladies who have been through this with stories to share. Thanks in advance! Firstly don't panic. A large % of woman have abnormal smears. HSIL is the equivalent of CIN 2/3 and CIN does not necessarily mean cancer it means any abnormal changes could progress into cervical cancer IF left untreated. I was CIN 3 over 20 years ago and had to have a colposcopy then a biopsy and some minor treatment using electricity to remove the cells all of which were painless. I then had a follow up and had to have my pap every year for 3 years and now back to every 5 years. Stay off websites that aren't trusted medical ones. Back then I had only my gynae to rely on with regards to information however with all the rubbish on the internet it is easy to read unsupported and incorrect information and get scared

Hi I'm hoping some you who have been through this before can advise please. We are relocating from London to Dubai and DH's company is paying for shipping. As such, are we being foolish in trying to avoid shipping because we want to travel as light as possible. We are travelling with 2 children. My DH wants to just buy whatever we need from Dubai but I am concerned that if things are a lot more expensive in Dubai we will regret not buying things from here and shipping them. I understand that generally rental homes in Dubai tend to be unfurnished and we will even need to bring our own white goods. Are their any items that are ridiculously expensive in Dubai that you would recommend we purchase from here or any items that we may need but tend to be hard to source? Or would you say that purchasing from Dubai will be more convenient. Especially since we have no idea what the dimensions etc of our home will be. I will be massively grateful for any advice on this subject. Many thanks in advance! I don't find sofas and furnishings the best for choice here ( curtains, rugs, cushions etc) We have some amazing furniture shops ( The One, Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, Marina) etc but wow are they expensive. Other items such as white goods are about the same if not cheaper than the UK however with the tumbling exchange rate they may work out slightly more expensive. All the big supermarkets sell white goods and they constantly have sales on. If you have a decent sofa, living room furniture/bedroom furniture etc I would ship them if you could With regards to other items these are expensive here Washing Liquid ( Ariel/DAZ) lenor concentrated fabric softener Pork products Alcohol Makeup branded stuff MAC/Clinique/Bobby Brown etc Perfume Stock up on your favourite bits as they may not sell them here or cost 30% more

I have the V6 Animal and love that it's lightweight, flexible, cordless. The canister is a bit small and needs to be emptied daily, but it's quick and easy. One thing that happens I hate, from time to time it will pop open and drops the mess. I guess the latch which closes it is a bit flimsy, and for such a top of the line vacuum cleaner, I really wonder why this happens. Overall, it is a solid little vacuum cleaner I recommend. Haha I have done this so many times but then it's easy to vacuum up ?

Personally speaking I would contact her and tell her that if she doesn't come and meet with you you will repprt her for absonding. She is taking the mickey as still on your visa and yet you don't know where she is. If she doesn't comply you have no choice but go to the authorities and explain what has happened. I imagine the threat of reporting her will do the trick

Expat packages are rare these days. Most people just get monthly gross salary and then you decide how much to spend on housing, school, car et. .Most companies do give medical cover and partial dental cover for management. Some senior positions will pay school fees on top of salary - he really needs to try for that at least. AED50k would not be enough if company not paying schooling and accommodation. Example: 4 bed villa AED200k approx. Primary school fees 2 x AED40k approx. Secondary 2 x 80k approx. None of these are payable monthly out of salary. School he needs to pay termly in advance. Rent in 2 or 3 cheques in advance per year. So if company not covering school and housing you will need to come out with money or take a loan which I wouldn't advise......food for thought! Start up fees are huge too Villa deposit and as many as 2 to 4 cheques up front Rental agents fee 5% of annual rent DEWA deposit for villa AED4k Internet connection Those dig into the savings too

Hi Not sure if this helps but I was at Lock Stock a few weekends ago and the music was a great mix of 80's, 90's and newer. It is at the Grand Millunium. Happy hour is from 5-8pm so if you get there just before you can get a table and service downstairs. Good luck! Smoky as heck though. Why can they not stop it indoors, you walk out of places like that and your hair and clothes stink of smoke

She is my own maid - fully sponsored by my husband. We didn't need her any more so have allowed her to keep her visa whilst she finds another sponsor. Big mistake. 5 months on and she's stringing us along. She said that nobody will offer visas so it seems a lot of madams are using maids but not paying for visas. She is now saying she can get a visa from a cleaning company??? but will be working for at least 2 families. Is the only way forward taking her to the airport and putting her on a one way flight home? Straight to the airport and do not pass go. She is still your responsibility if she is on your visa. Go and cancel it

Hi there, my husband has just had a skype interview with a recruiter in the Ad/Creative sector. Long story short...he feels some companies will like his cv and portfolio so a job offer should come. He said the expat/re-location packages were a thing of the past so to accept nothing below 50k AED p/m. We are a family of 6, 2 in secondary school and 2 in primary. Surely this wont be enough? Anyone have any thoughts? Whats the very min he can expect in package? I thought medical and dental was always offered. It would be a senior role, he has 20 years experience. I will work too but not during our settling in period Thanks for reading. Medical is now law however dental isn't and would have to be negotiated, however IMO most companies do not provide it Companies are cutting right back on expat packages as schooling and housing is very expensive here AED50,000 may sound a lot and would be a great package for 2 adults however if no additional housing or schooling is included on top of this then it isn't that great. It is hard to tell you what salary he could command as they can differ from company to company

If you can afford it I would say Jumeriah/Al Safa over Business Bay every time. Business Bay is high rise buildings and lots of construction whereas in a villa in that area is all low rise and should have a garden. Yes FT will work here however can be sluggish as the WIFI isn't the best here. Thanks for the response! Sorry hopefully just one quick follow up question if that's ok! Just looking online it appears as if one can find a fair few villas in a compound in Jumeirah/Al Safa for rental demands that are similar to those of apartments in business bay. However, should I expect that the cost of utilities, general upkeep etc are likely to be significantly higher for a villa? I guess I'm just trying to understand whether on a day to day basis living in a villa would eat into funds we would have otherwise saved. Thank you so much for your response! I'm feeling quite overwhelmed with all the decisions that need to be made! Some apartments have district cooling fees added to your DEWA bill, this will then increase the costs Case in point my colleague has a 2 bed apartment and pays an monthly fee of AED1500 plus his DEWA bill so around AED2500 per month

What is the best reasonably priced vacuum to buy and where to get it please?! I want to throw my exiting one out! It cleans quite well but then has to be cleaned extensively itself! Gets filters full of sand etc. It has 2 filters to be cleaned. How difficult are the Dysons to clean out here i.e the sand? I would have thought vacuums with bags were better - just throw the bags out and no cleaning involved. I have the cordless Dyson V6 and it is amazing. All Dysons are fab and you just take off the tank and empty. I clean the car and everywhere with mine. The charge runs for 30 minutes and if you drop anything you can just use it without unwinding a cord and plugging it in. Considering the amount of sand and dust generated here you would be throwing hoover bags away daily :-)

Hi All, I am currently on the initial 30 day visitor visa (not yet reached the end and still have my 10 day grace to go) but want to understand the process of extending - just in case my residency does not come through in time for us. My husband has received his residency at the end of last week so the process has begun for me but his company have indicated it may be longer to get than my current visa allows. I know that I can fly out of the country and come back in on another tourist visa for an additional 30 days but I was wondering if there is any Immigration office that I can go to here in Abu Dhabi and get the extension without leaving the country? If there is, has anyone had any experience with this and how difficult is the process? Any recommendations on how best to proceed would be much appreciated. I have tried reading about it online but nothing current (i.e last post seems to be from 2014) around this and was wondering what the current process might be. Thanks for any help you guys can offer :) Which passport do you hold? If you hold one of the ones that can be renewed by driving to Hatta go there and do it. Makes a nice trip out and cheaper than going to immigration

Hi ! I am new to Dubai and i have been seeing a lot of sales happening on clothing brands etc . I am wondering if like in London, make up brands too go on sale? Wojooh/ saphora/ mac/ bobby brown etc? Please can someone tell me when they go on sale? Thanks a lot!:) The only place I have seen offers on those makeup brands is the airport. When I flew home in August Mac had 20% off everything so I went a bit mad. Sephora is so overpriced here and their CS is bad. I tend to stock up at home or get friends to bring things over. When the new NKD palets came out the lady in Sephora actually advised me not to buy them here as they were much more expensive than in the UK  You may get some good offers on here and they deliver to the UAE http://www.lookfantastic.com/health-beauty/make-up.list

Thanks, will have a look. Be aware though, as most of the UAE courses are championship courses lessons and a round of golf are very expensive compared to the US/UAE expect to pay AED300 and above per lesson which equates to GBP60
