Hi All Does anyone know if the Labour Law has changed at all - or if it still stands that a woman is entitled to 45 days maternity leave at full pay (if having served 1 years employment service) including the period including her confinement and following her confinement (not 100% sure what that actually means). And may be absent for 100 days without pay with a doctor's note? And is entitled to 2 additional breaks in the day, neither of what can exceed 1/2 an hour? Any update on men's paternity leave entitlement? Thanks P x No paternity here 45 days is correct ( Freezones can be different) You can extend for sickness with a DR's note but it has to be a genuine cause I think you can also take an extra hour if you are breastfeeding. Most firms I have worked with let Mothers go home an hour earlier rather than take the hour during the day

As far as I'm aware, sadly nothing has changed. I'd be happy to be proven wrong though! Also, don't think there is any 'paternity leave' as per Labour Law. It's up to the individual company whether it's included in their policy or not. I believe Sharjah introduced it last year and extended their maternity leave to 3 months Nothing in the other Emirates though

Thanks for the respond ladies. It's a big decision, but I need to consider to have the operation in Thailand. I have been in contact with Dr. Pichet from Bangkok Plastic Surgery and read good recomendation about him, in fact I cant find any bad feedback about him. I had a consultation with a Dr. in a clinic in Dubai, they asked me AED 28000 for lipo, for me, i think it's overpriced. Hubby was shock as well when i told him how much :-D. If you heard a good reputable Dr. in Dubai with please do share, will make some calls Thank you Dr Khan is a specialist for a tummy tuck and 28k is not expensive. A boob job costs more than that and is an easier operation. Dr Khan has people coming from all over the world to see him for this procedure

I don't think they will go down any soon. The reason the bubble burst last time was due to the financial industry collapsing world wide. There is a lot of money in the region due to the current problems in the Middle East and people are parking it in real estate as the banks are offering them nothing for their cash. I know of 2 people who have bought here as they said the banks were giving them nothing. They are cash buyers too I feel they may stabilize but will be nothing like 2009 :-(

Oh yes :( Caused by the natural drop in oestrogen levels in your body - several things you can do to alleviate this such as oestrogen gels, continuous contraceptive pills, migraine pills just prior to getting them (after keeping diary for a couple of months), etc., etc. Not nice, and can get worse as you approach menopause. Best go and discuss your options with a nice gynae. I did exactly this & Dr Deamer (who sadly has left Dubai) prescribed continuous contraceptives for me & after a month or so, bingo, no more headaches! Thanks, I think I will give a trial to the contraceptives, does anyone know, can I buy over the counter? NEVER ever trial anything like this without seeing at least a GP first please Go to the DR, get your blood pressure checked and speak with the DR who will advise Don't just buy them on recommendation as GE says.

If anyone is interested KLM have just sent me an email offering deals if booked before 9th Sept for travel until 15th Dec. Other T&C's apply I am using them for my Sept and Dec trip AED2645 Emirates and co wanted nearly 6K, the stop over is worth the 3k I am saving! The stop over isn't that bad really and as you say worth the savings you make :) I don't mind. Nice to stretch my legs :-)

I find the Bath and Bodyworks candles just as good as Yankee candles. I only buy them when they have a sale though as they are quite pricey at dhs90 for a large candle. On sale its usually dhs45. They all smell lush! I love their plug ins but like you only buy them when they are on sale

Morning All, At 9 weeks of age, my son has suddenly developed very dry skin (confirmed not eczema). I was using Mustela products but never found their cream very moisturising. Read a lot of great reviews about the Aveeno products for babies online. Has anyone purchased the products recently in Dubai as I haven't come across anywhere that sells them (know previous threads have mentioned pharmacies but still haven't come across a pharmacy that stocks the line). Has anyone got any feedback on Sofitel Palm brunch. Looking to try alternative place to Westin Bubbles, Al Qasr etc. A lot of the new brunches seem to be a la carte which probably wouldn't suit. We are a mixed group of 30ish to 50ish we like a bit of life but not as much as Saffron! Any recommendations, thanks I like Al Muna and you get an entertainer voucher for it ( There is only one in the regular blue book) nice setting, food is amazing and the service is good

My apartment has been on the market for almost a year and no-one is buying it. All viewers have said to me that it is too expensive for what it is and they will wait for the prices to drop Apartments are generally better selling than villas, I'm told. Doesn't that mean you are expecting too much (just a simple ques) if its been on the market for a year now? Friends of ours were looking to buy in the Marina and finalised a 4 b/r but the owner wanted a bit more than what they wanted to pay so they walked away, that apartment is still in the market after 10 months but the owner has not come down on his ask. It doesn't belong to me. Even I think it is way overpriced and the marketing of it is way off too, on the real estate blurb it mentions information which isn't even true!

It looks very hard to find a place what is included in the rent if you share and what sort of monthly cost would I be looking at? Would love some feed back My friend who has been here for 6 months shared with 3 other girls in a 4 bed at the Marina It cost her 5k a month which was inclusive of internet and DEWA, she was in a average building not a posh one if that makes sense. I would say 4-5,000 a month

We had a very interesting discussion on this with one of our property dealer acquaintances. He mentioned that though the prices have gone up by about 30% since last year now they have leveled up, however owners still want to sell at a certain premium which the buyers are not ready to fork out, hence for the past few months there have not been many transactions. Also restrictions on bank financing (min cash down etc) have played a role in the buying capacity. Yes there are cash buyers but over the years they have become quite shrewd and are in a position to wait for bargains as these people generally buy a property as investment rather than own use. All the shops are at it, even Spinney's. Bought fresh prawns fro there once and when I got home and opened the bag, they were totally off...... I check dates now. I bought prawns from Geant the other day within the date on the package and they were off. I cant believe stores would risk it with seafood! becareful I don't think they care to be honest. When I took my prawns back, they were like " what do you want us to do" lol. Why on earth would they care? They are low paid employees who get kicked out of the country if they cause a fuss - and the people who should care are too wealthy to be bothered with a few out of date prawns ... Surely its their job to care, its not like shop workers at home are paid footballers wages. They have procedures to deal with issues like this and the staff are trained to handle it or at least escalate it to someone that can/should do something about it. So many of these companies supposedly conform to ISO 9001 a key part of which is control on non conforming products. retail is very badly paid at home and then they are taxed

I usually have a 30 day cycle and I am now on day 33 with no sign of my period at all. I tested positive with my LO on Day 35, so I am a little concerned right now. Is Day 33 too early to take a test so I can stop worrying? TIA You can test a day after a missed period :-)

To get out of Springs now, you'll need to head for the Al Khail road going towards AD and follow the signs from there. It is well sign posted. Sorry I can't be more explicit as I've never done it. I'm just aware of the road works. edited by Geordie expat on 18/08/2014 Its sign posted on the old emirates road ( MBZ now) it is easy to find from there You go straight over the green community roundabout and its not far from there It took us 30 mins from the Greens .It does seem as if you are in the middle of nowhere SZR is just as easy but its longer ( We came that way back)

Hi, I'm quite new to Dubai so not sure how it works with hairdressers I want to get my hair coloured, but I heard that you have to pay for the colour (or cut) AND the blow dry if you want this too. In the UK if you get a hair cut or coloured the blow dry and styling is always included in the price I'm looking at going to Salon ink (if I can get an appointment) I've dyed my own hair for years and never get the colour right plus it's not good using home products, I don't mind spending a fair bit if it's a good job, I've had bad colouring in the past and it's harder to correct than a bad cut! I would probably go with one of the senior stylists and have heard good things on Ali and Kelly - anyone specifically recommend anyone else there (for colour). Incase it makes a difference I am brunette, not looking for anything drastic, but something which suits my skintone and looks classy. Although, I saw for long hair it's 450 which I am happy to pay and is on par with London prices at good salons, but if I then have to pay am extra 175 for a blow dry I would reconsider. Isn't your employer giving you any allowances for accommodation. Its not really a good sign that you have just arrived and need to save up for your rent. Flat sharing is illegal in UAE. I know people do it, but just be careful. My company didn't do this when I came here - I had to borrow 3 months rent for the initial payment from a very new friend, who already lived here - as the company had learnt their lesson and stopped giving advances! This is a huge problem that people aren't made aware of before they move here - that they will need loads of cash ready to pay out for - rents, phones, photo's, etc ... Nor mine. I had savings and shared with people I knew till my pay check came in I was told to bring spare cash though before I came

Salon Ink - yes, charged separately for blow dry, short or long hair - it's itemised on receipt. Yep - that is how I think all hairdressers to do it. PS. Ali is no longer at Salon Ink - but there is also Dalma and Yvonne who are both excellent! Ali is at Slam now

Saline nasal drops are good to gently unblock the nose and keep the nasal passages lubricated so they don't dry out. I get very bunged up when its dusty out and find these help I think they are safe for very young babies. Pop to the pharmacy and they will assist

Absolutely not. What about after care or if there are post op complications a few weeks down the road?I know the price might be attractive but I just wouldn't take the risk. I had a friend who had a b**b job in Belgium (travelled from UK) because it was cheaper, found a good surgeon etc. she still had to keep going back to Belgium for follow up, infection etc. just not worth it in my opinion. I wouldn't gamble with my health, especially for an elective procedure. If I was going to do it, I'd find a reputable surgeon where I lived, even if it meant delaying the procedure I agree

Maybe it's because they see the potential advantages of Western guilt about employing "staff"? I'm surprised the Western world is running when they have guilt about employing staff..... edited by Silvstet on 13/08/2014 I don't think it is the guilt per se. At home they just do it themselves and it is rare for most people to have a cleaner etc. They probably feel they are spoilt here and treat them better than usual? IMO :-)

Hi Ladies, Trying to get an appt booked at the Pace e Luce salon located in downtown Dubai. Their website says located in Al Manzil Mall. I'm confused about the location though.....is it not a part of the Al Manzil hotel or is there a Manzil mall I don't know about? Trying to call them as well but no answer so has anyone been that can help? Do I just park at the hotel? I believe its the hotel I have never seen or heard of Al Manzil Mall?
