How do you keep your head & neck from getting really uncomfortable? I could sleep on a washing line. I tend to fall asleep on my front whilst sunbathing My head and neck doesn't hurt thankfully You could put a towel as a pillow there

My friend took her LL to court he didnt give enough notice, she won and he kept the rent the same as before. You need to fight and you will win. Most LL's just think they can bully and tenants will be too scared to actually go to authorities. My friend was down there a week ago and said it was packed I think people are standing their ground whereas in the past they would of just moved or paid higher amounts. The more people keep within the laws the better it is for tenants :-)

I had been checked for all the laws and informations thru EW since Jan this year just to get prepared when this things came out. And it was very clear, but as usual LL always wanted their way to againts the rules even LL challenging us when DH told to complaint this to RERA. DH just need to wait email for LL about the increasement letter so he can bring this to court. - What doc do we need if we want to file a complaint ? - where is this RERA office to file a complaint ? Thank you all for the responses, big help! Let LL open the case as you are not in the wrong If you want to file you need to pay 3.5% of annual rent ( I think) and you need to register contract with Ejari ( Another 200-300AED) Personally I would email all communication to LL or Assistant, keep a copy of it and let him file if he wants to. They usually back down considering the decrees are passed by HRH

The law is very clear on this I would ask the assistant for hers and LL email address and send them the following information http://www.bhomes.com/uae/dubai-law.xhtml Look at 2008 and 2013 at the bottom of the page Any changes to contract including price increase have to be given more than 90 days before end of contract. They cannot increase more than the calculator You don't even have to give notice to stay. The contract would just roll over again If they have an issue with this tell them to file a complaint with the rent committee You can also go down there with your check book and current contract. They will issue a new contract, take the checks and deliver to LL There has been so much press about these laws that the LL has no excuse not to know them

I have seen some articles suggesting that property sales in Dubai have slowed down. Wondered what people's experience was in this regard and whether anyone has seen any price drops. Nope, I was talking to a friend yesterday who owns a real estate agency here and they said they are crazy busy with sales but rentals are very slow

Bloomingdales do a Elemis facials I would say that is more of a refresher as it lasts 40 mins with the "consult". The actual facial takes abt 20-30 mins only. It is pretty good though! Oh thanks for that, I haven't been - was just recommended to go there, I was actually think of going to Essa Beauty instead in JLT - but OP asked for downtown area :) Polly, I think the lady who owns Essa is a mate of Kellys at SI

Hi, we have been living in our 3bed villa for 1 year and rent will need to be renewed in Sept, does anyone know if there is a law about increasing it within the first few years? Would greatly apprecaite any advice or experience with this, thank you Yes if the rent calculator says so The old 2nd year rule hasn't been valid for years The calculator only goes up to August 2014 at present so you will need to keep an eye on it if your contract expires after August 2014 http://www.dubailand.gov.ae/English/Tanzeem/Rentals/Rental_Increase_Calculator.aspx edited by sarahlou123 on 18/05/2014

Sorry about the situation. Been in situation like that and could sort it out by bringing a replacement tenant. It was helpful for LL too hence reduced the losses 4 both of us. Try it out but chk with ur LL first. How to find a replacement? Use Dubbizle or Gulfnews free classified. Hi Touimi, I am trying to find a replacement via Dubizzle in the short term section - but not getting much take-up. I am guessing this is the low season for renting or am I wrong? I have heard prospective tenants are all using findaproperty.ae now but that is exclusively for agents' use who subscribe. I have never used that website for rentals. I have always used Dubizzle

Hi, strange request but I have terrible phobia of having smear tests done and am due one. I used to go to Dr Fischer's nurse - Marian at the Coopers Clinic and she was absolutely amazing and so gentle that you didn't even know you were having it done. I've just found out she left so wondered if anybody knew if she was working anywhere else or whether you could recommend a nurse who was also good and gentle for smear tests..... DR Andrea on Al wasl road is lovely and the people at the Health bay Polyclinic also

Hello everyone. I'm new to the site and kind of new to the area. I live in Sharjah and I'm looking for a good (but not too expensive) ladies tailor. Does anyone know of one either in Sharjah or Dubai? I would like a dress made for an upcoming event. I'm plus size so I've notice not much variety here for shopping and shipping is crazy expensive especially coming from the US. Thanks so much! I have an Aramex Shop and Ship account so I can buy online from the UK and have it delivered here. You will be given a US address with your account Shipping is not expensive and I rarely pay more than 100AED for shipping of dresses plus online from the UK and US is much cheaper than buying in Dubai

Hi there! I bought a beautiful pajama set from Matalan yesterday (for a 3 years old, as well). They also had slippers, a heart-shaped bag and a beach bag. And cheap, as well. Good luck! that sounds PERFECT... I hope they have it in the lamcy branch which is right across from where I am at the moment!! :) that would save me the long drive to springs I saw them in Lamcy on Thursday :-)

If you want British Indian near the Marina, I saw that they have opened a British Indian in Goldcrest Views 2 in JLT (same cluster as Bonnington). Now I can't remember the name of the restaurant and I didn't eat there at the time, but my friend chatted to the owner and he's been running an Indian restaurant in London for years. Has anyone been yet? edited by Silvstet on 17/05/2014 Brit Balti has 2 outlets also It is run by a Midlands couple :-)

Hello from the UK. I wonder if any of you lovely people could give me some advise please. My partner and I are coming to Dubai on May 29th for 8 days as he has interviews in the Al Barsha area. I want to use the week to do as much as possible in preparation.....in case he gets the job and we relocate. I have an 8 year old son who would be coming with us and he has a16 year old who is undecided as he may stay in the UK with his mother. We also have a 2 year old Jack Russell. Obviously I want to go and see some schools and areas to live etc. Any suggestions as to the best way to utilise my time would be fantastic. Thanks in advance Have a look on propertyfinder.ae and justrentals.ae This will give you an idea on prices and areas. Bear in mind the more expensive the area the better quality the buildings/amenities usually are. Working in Barsha there are many different residential areas close by Apartments The Marina JLT The Greens The Palm ( Mix of villa and apartments) Tecom Downtown Business Bay The Gardens Villas Meadows Springs Emirates Hills Arabian Ranches Barsha Sorry I cannot help with schools although the British favour these ones Jebel Ali Primary DESS JESS Repton Gems Horizon Jumeriah College Dubai College Most families prefer to live close to where their children goes to school I suppose it makes life here a little easier due to traffic etc Some have waitlists depending upon childs age and others take siblings and debentures as preference I am sure all the other ladies can advise edited by sarahlou123 on 14/05/2014

SL I agree, & the same logic goes out to the people who can cause accidents by driving slowly, like the idiots driving out of business bay last night at 5.15pm, how they did not end up in a smash I do not know! 2 guys got into trouble for posting online the recent bad truck accident Why would anyone want to take pictures let alone post a video online? Rubberneckers are terrible too, the last thing I would want to see is a fatality or bad smash I was disgusted by how many motorists stopped, got out of their vehicles, went over to the dead motorcyclist, took a picture and got back in their car and drove off. So sad That is awful

There was another awful accident on Umm Suqeim Rd at the last traffic lights heading towards the Ranches just before 9pm. What is it about that junction? I have seen 4 awful smashes there now. Can only think it must be people running red lights. The road was blocked and I ended up going down past GWA to Hessa St and round that way. I saw crowds of people, one smashed car and one facing the wrong way. Does anyone know what happened? It's a horrid road. Folk drive like maniacs (despite the speed cameras) and have to slam on their brakes at the last minute when they reach the lights. I witnessed a motorcyclist killed at one of the sets of lights just 3 months back and it was so bad I went to a garage the next day and bought a car for DH (he usually rides a motorbike) I'm not sure whether the speed camera's actually work or not as I never see them flash. Anyway, just e-mailed RTA to find out Speed cameras don't deter people here as they just pay the fines We need stronger penalties against drivers who flount the laws

Hi ladies, I was hoping for a little advice, anything at all will help. I am 21 and my boyfriend is 29, we are both from the UK. After living in Australia for one year on a tourist visa, we are now thinking about heading over to Dubai to work, probably November 2015. Obviously this would take months to plan, we would need to find jobs, have somewhere to live and have a lot of savings, not like when we arrived in Oz with a bank full of money and a 14 year old camper van! I understand the ‘rules’ for women for example keeping covered up and I am more than happy to cooperate. I am pretty excited to experience a new culture. So is there anything else that is not advertised that you think I should know? Has anyone been in a similar situation, how is it working out? My main issues are, will I be able to find a job in administration, customer service or computing (this is what I have experience and qualifications in), my boyfriend is a Project Manager in Construction, very high qualifications and a lot of experience so I am hoping he will find something good, but if anyone disagrees please feel free to say so. Is there a lot of money to be made over in Dubai at the moment? Sorry for the questions I am just so interested and always feel like researching isn't enough, I want to hear the opinions of people who are in the situation. Thank you so much for reading. We don't have to cover per se just dress conservatively If you aren't married, living together is illegal however many people do it, you just need to be aware of this. We have zero tolerance on alcohol, so don't have 1 then drink and drive You will find a property when you here however the rents have shot up recently and you will need money up front for rent ( Not many places pay monthly) agency fees and a deposit Dubai is an expensive but fab place to live and finding a role is not as easy as it was pre 2009 It is better to be in the country and apply for roles but bear in mind you are going up against candidates who have UAE experience, speak several languages etc etc I would also advice not to move during the Summer months as the job market really slows down With regards to your partner he would be best to research construction companies in Dubai and check their job portals and websites for suitable roles Many projects that we cancelled are back on and there are many new ones coming up in the future due to the EXPO. Some people make a lot of money here and others not. Your biggest outgoing is rent and a 2 bed in a decent area is around 20,000GPB per year Good Luck
