I just got mine on Thursday so hopefully this info will be recent enough and help someone. I went to the DNATA on Sheik Zayed Rd near the Metropolitan Hotel. Easily parked on the street. Walked in main door and took escalator to first floor. There is a room called EGate kind if behind you as you ge off the escalator. I handed the lady a passport photo and my passport with a valid UAE residency stamp in it (issued in Ahu Dhabi if that helps anyone... ). She handed me back a form in Arabic and told me to go downstairs to the cashier right at th back on the building on the right hand side and pay 200aed. He gave me a receipt I took this back upstairs to the same lady who passed me my brand new Egate card complete with photo. The whole process took less than 10 minutes including me getting lost and asking for directions several times in the buidling. Easy peasy lemon squeezey!

It's opposite the York Hotel in Bur Dubai. It is slightly difficult to spot as there is scaffolding in the building that houses it. I have been there several times and they have been most helpful.

You can just fill a zipplock bag with water and put them inside the shoes...then put them inside the freezer, by the morning the water will be obviously ice ...Take them out, wait around 10 minutes till you can remove the bags from inside the shoes...Try them...they should be bigger... There is a video about that on youtube... It works for me...hope it will for you... This is the best tip EVER! I have a beautiful pair of very high peep toe shoes that I could never wear because they were too tight around the toes. I had them in the freezer for the last two nights and now they fit like a dream! After the first night they fit pretty well but after they second night they stretched further. Excellent result! Now I just need to practice walking in them...

You will be fine :) I wouldn't expect you to encounter any difficulty- Australians by and large are used to visitors from all around the world, many have travelled extensively themselves and as a tourist you will be predominantly in areas frequented by overseas guests. Have fun planning the trip. Hunter valley is lovely as is Byron Bay. The Tweed Coast (kingscliff etc) is also beautiful.

Oh my oggdness, yes it would be safe for you. Don't get me wrong, Australia has it fair share of racist bigoted rednecks but I can't see you encountering any problems driving along the coastline there, regardless of how small and insular the town is that you chose to stop in along the way. May I ask you a sensitive question in return? What do you class as 'black'? Are of African decent?

Pretty much everyone I know gets their mail delivered to their work (or husbands) work PO Box. We actually have a box in our building in the car park that we pay 300aed a year for. They are very very hard to come by. Goodness knows how we eventually got one- perhaps the moon aligned or something! For parcels, they will be delivered to your door by the relevant courier - Amarmex, UPS, Fedex etc.

I haven't been to tat many brunches but have always had the option. A few weeks ago I went to one that offered three options: non alcoholic, wine/beer or bubbles. As I drink scotch only (duh... Refer to user name) I went for the non alcoholic option and bought my drinks separately. I thout this was pretty norm for brunches?

It really is a dangerous road isn't it. I hope for the residents sake that they put in traffic lights soon. I was driving out of Springs 10 the other night and was driving cautiously as I knew the road conditions had changed and not driving regularly enough in the area was being extra careful. Thank goodness I was as I almost got taken out by another 4WD that was practically flying down the road as I went around the roundabout. Crazy road indeed

My personal favs in Phuket are the Laguna- either the Banyon Tree, Outrigger - actually any of the 5 in that complex. So lovely, relaxing and excellent service throughout. My other fav is way at the other end of the island - the Katathani resort. Absolutley gorgeous.

Slightly silly question, sorry in advance.... At the Karama markets, are the prices marked? I just don't want to ask for the price of things and get silly expat lady price! If I am going to head all the way down there then I want bargains! Or at the least the going rate!

Star international. Fab news ;). It will make things far more manageable for so many people to do it that way. And much less pressure in September to come up with the years fees in advance (or terms or whatever) and the medical fees, books fees, new uniforms, extra curric fees- all those add up when it's back to school to time!

Darling, you have been very fortunate to have been home with your two so long tbh. In most countries, you probably would have been 'back' at work for a few years now. There is absolutley nothing to feel guilty about. Your littlest is off to a new adventure in school and won't be resentful in the slightest about you working. Imagine how less stressed a mummy you will be without worrying about ££££ ;) You are a fabulous mum and your kids love you. :)

What does concern me about your complaint is the managers response that 'they hadn't thought of'. If that lack of security wasn't considered, what else has been overlooked?

I don't know of anyone that has used the tanning beds there, or at least admitted it- seriously blows my mind that they are even allowed here seeing as they are now illegal in many countries as they are so dangerous. I do know of people who have had the spray tans there and they are recommended for that. I know you didn't want anyone harping on with the dangers of sun beds, but can I urge you to check out their spray tans instead? Much safer.

oh please reconsider!!! Geckos are considered very lucky and harmonious animals. Many beleive that when ypu find a gecko in your home then yours is a happy one. We used to have dozens of them in Brisbane as we *did* have a happy home :) (except when the litte buggrs crawled into the air con units and short wired them!!

If I add up the 'extras' like popping into each day for fresh milk/bread/bananas etc I am guessing we'd quickly get to 1000aed a week for 2 adults, 2 kids and our maid. I don't shop around for bargains but shop at Spinneys mainly. I'm sure I could cut the bill done if I shopped at union co op or lulus or whatever but food is not something we compromise on in this house! bit like in Australia, we'd never shop at say Aldi or BiLo to save a few dollars, instead preferring to shop at Coles or Woolworths.

I am pretty sure that the pharmacy in teh Al Fattan Towers at Jumierah Beach Residence has a Compounding Chemist there. I can't recall its name but I think it is something like Scientific Pharmacy or similar. Try searching for 'Compounding Chemist" in your search field and that might help as that is what these pharmicists are often refered to.
