Hi, Please I need help understanding how terminating the contract works. - My LL is arguing that the handover day is the day they finished doing all the repair work after we left, not the day we actually gave the keys over. This doesn't make sense to me - it took her 15 days to get this done, and she's charging me for those 15 days of rent. - We terminated the contract before the end of the year - which I understand requires a 2 month penalty. What does this mean? lets say I had 6 months left. I notify her with 6 months left, so I get 4 months back? Please, any help or experience in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot! If the agreed penalty in your tenancy contact is 2 months, that should be the total sum you are penalised. It would not include the 15 days or so it took to repair any damages - if these repairs were arranged and paid for by the landlord. (Saying this, you will most likely forfeit your deposit if the apartment required repairs like this?) We had a similar situation and took it to RERA and won the case... Thanks a lot! Just to clarify, the 2 months start the day we notified the LL or the day we left the apartment?

Hi, We're leaving Dubai very soon, and we're leaving our great maid behind. She's been with us over 3 years, and we've never had any complains. She's great! extremely hard working, respectful, very good cook (once you explain a recipe, she can repeat with no problem), very very good cleaner, super good with babies and toddlers. I really can't speak highly enough of her. Please, if you're interested, give her a call. Her name is Nory 050 227 1336 If you need to talk to me for more reference, my number is 055 446 1408 (Daniela)

Thanks! I did the search here but results were more than I year old. Still, look into the suggested places but couldn't find. Will try McGrudys now :) Thanks again!

Hi! Has anyone seen Rit or Dylon products around? Hopefully several colors... I tried ACE on SZR and had no luck. Need desperately to dye some curtains. Thanks a lot!

Hi ladies, I know this topic has been written about before, but I can't seem to find an answer - at least not one that works now. Is there any way to get the Uppababy Vista to Dubai without having to pay such a high price? if not - do you have any "cheaper" but comparable option? Thanks a lot!!!

Thank you so much for the suggestions. LL has send several teams to try to fix it, and it still smells really bad. LL claims it's a building issue (which might be true), so it'll become a dispute between LL and building management - so what to do? it shouldn't be us paying for this - as we already paid our full year's rent, and are already suffering the health implications (with a baby!) I just want to get me money back and get out of this apartment!

Hi! anyone knows where to find these cassettes? I always find them at Bumble Bee but they often run out of stock. The model I find in Spinneys (and plenty of other stores), don't work properly with the disposal system I have. Need the ones with the greenish packaging. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tommee-Tippee-Sangenic-Nappy-Disposal/dp/B002VKQD5S/ref=pd_luc_bxgy_01_02_t_lh Has anyone seen them around? Thanks!

Moroccan Oil - The Shampoo & Conditioner and the hydrating mask. I add a little of the oil to the conditioning/mask stage. I dont have curly hair, but dry over treated hair and this has been the best routine so far. I staighten my hair as well and havent had to deal with the humidity frizz and my hair is shiny. I order everything on line at Amazon. Hi ladies, I know this has been talked about in several threads but I can't find the MoroccanOil brand anywhere in Dubai. Does any one know an alternative to amazon? Thanks!

Thanks a lot! lovely article! the only problem is that all the names in the article are adjectives :( Loved the list of the prophets named in the Quran. Thanks! I'm still thinking... My first boy is named Adam, which is a muslim name but at the same time christian (as I am). Also, easy to pronounce in english (LH) and spanish (me). I'm looking for the same characteristics - multi culture, multi language - but it's been hard to find. I love Samuel, David, (I heard Daniel is also muslim), and Aidan. Just want to get more ideas as my LH is giving me a hard time.

I took my test last December, and passed it fine. My advice is to appear "agressive" and very confident as you drive. There was another lady in the car taking the test too and she was extra cautious all the time - she failed :((( Just show them what you can do :D Good luck!

Hi, I know this is a much talked about topic on the forum but i have a really important question on Salik. My husband and I bought a car from Toyota a few months ago when we moved here and had no clue about Salik. My husband just received an email telling him he got a speeding ticket and when he went online he found over AED 10k in fines for 'Unregistered salik vehicle'. Apparently he is getting fined AED 400 per day. We had no idea about this system and it seems a bit unfair that we should pay this. Does the car dealership have any responsibility for registration? If anyone has had a similar experience, please let us know because we're freaking out right now. Tks.

Trying to go for something cheaper :P I've seen those and although they're gorgeous, I can't afford right now. I was thinking something more like flat woven rugs... Here's the one I want : http://www.dwellstudio.com/home-decor-accents/decorative-rugs/facet-charcoal-cream-rug-5x8.html

Thank you all for the replies, this has been extremely helpful! I'm definitely going with an agency as we're not willing to do anything illegal. Besides the issue about the agency getting the money instead of the girl, I was trying to avoid training someone from scratch as I've heard that most of the girls they send are basically new doing this. But again, don't want to risk it so doing the legal thing :) It does seem very weird to me though all the posts I see on the classifies with people looking to hire/find part time jobs :S if it's illegal...how come people do it so openly?

Thanks kitten67, that's exactly what I'm looking for :) If you don't mind me asking...Are you hiring through an agency? if so, which one would you recommend? I want to know how to do the same thing. Thanks again! edited by seiskilos on 22/09/2011

Hi, I just moved to Dubai and was thinking about getting help for some days per week. I've read different threads and looked into several agency sites and it seems that the options I have are, either hire a live in maid or booking a particular visit through the agency (which I'd rather not as I don't want different people coming into our house every day/week). Is there anyone with a similar situation? would love to get some advice please. Thanks!
