Most seems to been getting the app this year. I have one book and the HSBC app and to be honest, probably mostly been using the app, but I heard that the Entertainer removed some vouchers that were on the original list it doesn't feel right, at least with the book you will have the outlet the whole year. On the flip side though, they keep adding new outlets to the app, and I think the rate of those removed vs. those added is to the favour of the people that have the app. Next year the app is 100 Dhs cheaper as well. I agree that the new format is horrible. I can't find my account setting anymore and searching for outlets doesn't make a lot of sense to me :-(

Paying for children at buffets is my pet hate. I have no objection paying for food that my children eat, but they barely nibble at the food! I think prices vary between kids under 4, 5 or 6 being free. It is usually then 50% for children under 12.

I'm not sure how true this is, but it was told to me by an admissions officer at a school earlier this summer. She said that the KHDA does not allow the transfer of students from one curriculum to another during years 10, 11 and 12. I was specifically asking about somebody that had been in Arabic Ministry education that was considering an English language program and told that this is not possible (obviously makes sense given the different languages), however she indicated that this was not possible across all curricula. Anyways, what I just said may not be true, but it is worth asking rather than waste your time going through the dilemma of what to do. Specifically in terms of what you have stated below, the IB program is pretty challenging. The program mandates certain subjects to you, so for example your child will have to do a maths and a science - you can choose the level but they have to do some form of it. If your child prefers arts then they may struggle with this, there are 6 subjects in total plus a Theory of Knowledge course, CAS and an extended essay. If you are considering changing schools then why not consider the A-Levels instead? Here they only need to do 3-4 subjects, and if I am not mistaken, there is no mandate on what type of subjects these need to be so your child can choose subjects that suit his strengths and what he wants to do at university if he chooses to go on.

I repaired mine at a shop called Mobo in Bay Avenue, Business Bay. It was an iPhone 5S and cost 250 dhs. They also did it for me in about 20 minutes. Cheapest place I think you can go is Satwa, but if you go down that route then make sure you find somebody that will repair the phone in front of you. I heard that some places in Satwa take people's phones for repair and then take out the original parts an replace them with fakes, so they can sell on the originals. Apparently the user won't notice the difference I don't know how true that is, but given that somebody once gave me that information I would prefer to play it safe.

I agree with Sheikhandbake. I went a few months ago, the food was very good. I would recommend for a birthday party, although I would go with a package booked in the party room. At some point the children will start to get excitable and I remember freaking out that my kids and their friends would break something - it was quite stressful! If you have the party room then presumably then can do what they like!

I have flown both and would fly both again without a doubt. I actually rate them better than Emirates, as I personally think their service is not as good as it used to be. They're also about half the price of Emirates. Royal Brunei is dry though in case that makes a difference to you.

I'm sorry OP but something doesn't add up to me in all of this. I'm not accusing you of not telling the truth or anything but it appears that you are somewhat naive. Why would your husband ask you to move out here in the first place if he wanted to live a bachelor lifestyle? Surely it would have been win win for him to have his loving and devoted wife thousands of miles away and for him to live the single life here as he pleases. Also, why are you being forced to cover up? Are you afraid of him, because surely you can just say no? I agree with the other posters that you need to leave him immediately. Either you return back to Holland or you build your own life here. It a shame that your first impression about Dubai was such a negative one, but hopefully you realize that it isn't the fault of Dubai. To be honest having now reflected on your initial doubts to come here in the first place, I think subconsciously you knew that the issue was him and not the country. You need to be strong, that's the main thing, and get as much help as possible from the people that support you. You have rights in your home country there must be some sort of loophole. BTW the other post was about getting tested for STDs given your husband's extra marital affairs.

I have found that Emirates post is significantly cheaper than anywhere else. I sent a package that had about 2-3 kgs of wedding invitations (it was a large wedding with the invitations made here) to the UK and Aramex quoted me closer to the 1,000 dhs mark whereas I ended up paying about 350 dhs with Emirates Post.

I have posted about M&S before, but will do so again given that you are asking. I think they are great, and totally echo the comments made by HorizonMum2. I switched from Hamilton to M&S about 6 months ago, and it was the best move I made. In two years at Hamilton my daughter was still in the baby pool - she moved to M&S and was swimming lengths of the 25m pool within a couple of weeks, and has since gone from strength to strength. She got the foundations from Hamilton but they just weren't pushing her any further at all, which is probably because there classes are full and you need somebody to leave in higher classes to secure a space.

Unfortunately I can't help you with the career advisory centres, but does he have any idea what he would to study at university? Usually your subject choice is based on what he wants to be rather than what subjects appeal - although I guess it is hand in hand. I'm guessing that he doesn't know that either?

I think there's two ways of thinking about this. One is that if you work reduced hours then are you entitled to have the same number of holidays as a full time person? In a previous position I thought this way and pro-rata'd the days accordingly. However now I am of the thinking that if you work for example 8am-3pm then your holidays are also 8am -3pm, I think you could look at it either way. Very employer dependent I guess! Your rationale is exactly what I faced, and what I think the OP is currently facing, and also very common. The reality is, if you're working every day but reduced hours, and then you are given only half of your holiday days, you are actually reducing the employee's holiday time from half to a quarter which isn't correct.

Hi SEY83, It's 5 days a week with reduced hours. I expected to get the full holiday allocation but was told differently ! Thanks This actually happened to me as well. Our HR misunderstood that by me having the same amount of holiday I would be equal to those that are full-time, as oppose to less days of holiday meaning that I would end up with half of my holiday. To be honest, I don't think anyone was trying to be malicious, it was just that their minds didn't comprehend the concept. I fought it big time, and engaged the help of somebody in the Legal Department who saw the rationale, and ended up getting the policy changed. If the labour law states that you are entitled to equal holiday then definitely use that, but keep in mind that your company may actually believe that they are compliant with the law because many people seem to misinterpret the logic, and believe that 50% pay equals 50% less holidays. What I had to explain (over and over again) is that one day of holiday for me was a half day not a full day like others and so I wasn't being treated equally. We got there eventually but it surprised me how many people didn't view it with that logic.

It depends on how you work part-time. Is it part-time by less hours worked per day, but you still go to work everyday. Or is it part-time as in you work fewer days per week but you do a full shift? If you work fewer hours every day, then you receive the same holiday allowance. Rationale is when you, for example, work 9am - 1pm (as oppose to 9am to 5pm), then when you take a day off you are taking off a full day as you work it, which is 9am-1pm as you wouldn't be at work 1pm - 5pm anyways. In this case your pay will be 50%. If you work part-time as in you do three full days per week (9am - 1pm), and you are off two days per week, then holiday is counted differently. In this case you do get less days of full leave. So if you are entitled to 20 days of annual leave as a full time employee, some body working only 3 days per week as a part-timer will be entitled to 12 days of annual leave. This way it still works out fair, as when you want to take a full week off work, you would only need to use three days of annual leave as the other two days you don't work anyways. In this case your pay would be 60%. Hope that makes sense!

The discussion on economic migrant vs. refugee is really really getting to me. You don't have to have no money to be a refugee, the majority of people have paid their way to smugglers to get a place on a boat and they have pretty much paid everything to be able to do this. Even if they can afford it, why should that person be called a migrant and the other person a refugee? They are all after the same objective which is a better life for themselves and their family. I am a Syrian/British myself, and honestly I feel completely over ridden with guilt most of the time as to why I was blessed with a good life, and my own family members and friends got the short end of the stick because they live and work in Syria, what have they done wrong? Yes a lot of them had money, but they have been living in a country where men have not been able to work for over 4 years, children barely go to school, there is no water, no electricity, the cost of food has gone up ridiculously, there is constant bombing in all parts of the city and nobody is safe - I know numerous people that have had their houses destroyed - the healthcare system is atrocious, disease is widespread, people are living in the streets. I'm sorry but if anyone of us lived through that with no end in sight then we would all leave. It doesn't matter if you have money to afford a way out or not, everyone is in the same situation and everybody has the right to claim refugee status as much as the next person. Somebody made the comment about how they haven't met a single Syrian refugee that would give anything to go back to the life that they had before. This is so true. Nobody is happy that they are fleeing everything that they know and love to go and be an asylum seeker. These people will always be an outcast in the country that they have landed in, for the majority there will be few work opportunities other than manual labour, factory workers, etc, people do not speak the language, are not used to the culture. Yes they are given benefits and a house which is really the only reason why they would make the sacrifice, but the government won't make handouts to them forever and they will be expected to work. Some of these people are highly educated, I know a person that has two master degrees and had a very respectable job in Syria - he won't be able to find work in Germany where he now is. A lot of people have held on in Syria, believing that this conflict will end, but I think the sad reality is it will be years before that happens. When it does end, there will no nobody to rebuild the country, everyone with money and an education will have left already. In terms of the article posted about what the Gulf is doing. I agree that a lot of residency visas have been given out, but every single person that has been granted residency here has been expected to pay their way the same as everyone else. Same rents, same school fees, same everything. There are no subsidies for the people that have left due to the conflict, no handouts, nothing. These people have spent a lot of money building lives here the same as everyone else, and the economy has benefited considerably. Part of the reason for the rent hikes have been people from Syria, Libya, Egypt that have money that have moved here and so demand is higher. Unfortunately a normal Syrian can't even get a visit visa to the Gulf anymore.

We as a family have discussed sponsoring a family and have looked into it. Unfortunately at this point in time it won't work but we have not ruled it out completely and when my health improves will visit it again. I feel so helpless not being able to do more other than send prayers of support. In the past I have supported most requests for funds for most charities only to find out later that VERY little actually gets to where it is actually needed. As a child my gran used to say " you want to save the world but it starts with just one small step " and I am now working on that first step, can anyone recommend a charity they know will get my money to where it is actually needed ? As an aside, I am just so tired of reading about these celebrities who are now coming out of the woodwork grabbing headlines because they have decided to do their bit......just do it quietly and without the fanfare. ETA love the idea proposed by the Billionaire from Egypt....... Would work in my " Perfect World". Hi Nomad, I know a charity called Souriat Across Borders (https://www.facebook.com/souriyat.across.borders?ref=ts&fref=ts). Honestly, I couldn't recommend a better charity, I personally know a couple of the founding ladies and the work they are doing is incredible. They are primarily working with the refugees in Jordan and have set up rehabilitation centres, schools, work places, accommodation, etc. The main purpose of their charity is not to give out aid but to use donations to help the Syrian refugees re-integrate into society and be able to make a living for themselves, they obviously do give out aid where needed as well. My mom visited the Zaatari refugee camp with this organisation, and to be honest she was very disappointed at what she saw in terms of how lazy some of the people had become because they knew that aid would be just given to them so they felt no need to work or try and make their own life. I can't say enough about this charity, one of the projects they were working on last winter was to exchange the refugee tents for caravans, which provide much better shelter. The cost of one caravan was between 600-1000 dhs, and there were literally thousands of tents that required replacing. I think you can also sponsor a family through the charity (my mom does) and it's literally something like $100-$200 per month. Take a look at their Facebook page, the posts are in both English and Arabic. Hope this helps!

I'm currently going through the same process, but because I have realized that I really need to do something with the 7 years worth of photos that I have on my computer. I have googled a lot, and agree that the prices are ridiculous. The one I found most affordable, and the one I am currently creating a photobook with is www.photobookemirates.com. It seems like the books are printed internationally and shipped here but the prices are way lower than companies based here, shipping is affordable plus they currently have an offer where you can get 40% off if you order before the 15th September. The voucher codes are all on the website. I haven't tried them so can't speak to if I am happy with them yet, but I found the price very decent so I'm going to test them out with one photobook for now.

Many reasons why the men are going first and not taking their families with them is because of the means to have to reach Europe. You have hundreds of people cramped onto a fishing boat, thrown out into the sea with false promises, told to leave all of their possessions behind only taking the clothes they are wearing, with only tuna fish to eat for 10 days and one toilet which they have to queue for hours to use. Being smuggled across borders is a huge risk and many men choose to leave their families at home because once they are granted refugee status they can apply for the rest of their family to follow in a way that doesn't entail such hardship.

My wedding dress was from Demetrios, although I didn't buy it from the UAE. They have outlets all over the world and at one point were going to open an outlet in Burjuman but the shop never materialized. The dresses are amazing! They don't have a huge selection in the shop, which is annoying, but you can order anything from the catalog and they will deliver. And yes, they are very affordable. Hiya, getting visas/residencies for Syrians is very very tough these days. It's not impossible, and they do give visas at times, but it is definitely not a walk in the park. I haven't come across a situation where a non-Syrian wife has sponsored her Syrian husband, so I can't comment on that directly. I think you being British will play very strongly in his favour, and the rules that apply for visas should be the same. Syrians do get a very detailed background check before visas for them are approved. I am aware of a Syrian already having a residency and then being able to bring the rest of his family without any issues. I also know that Syrians already in the country with residencies can sponsor their parents, but not any other family members. For example, we tried twice to get a visa for my husband's sister and got rejected, as we were told you can only apply for visas for parents. Employers typically will struggle to get visas for Syrians, and so many companies just don't bother. We have found that after applying a couple of times and having the visas rejected they generally will eventually give the employment visa. In a nutshell, being Syrian will give your husband a big disadvantage in the Gulf. It's not impossible, and they would probably give it to him after a couple of tries. I actually think his best bet is for you to sponsor him. Apparently Qatar is even more strict than Dubai by the way. If you want my honest advice, I would live in the UK until he is eligible to apply for the British passport, because it is in all of your best interests for the future. I am British/Syrian and my husband is Syrian, we have been in the UAE for many years (me ten, him fifteen), and if we could pack up and leave to the UK tomorrow just for him to get the passport we probably would because things are just going downhill for Syrians all over the world.

You are definitely not allowed a gas bottle in Executive Towers! They are very unsafe and usually the cause of fires in high rises. Even if you can find a company to deliver, security will not let the gas bottle into your building. Plus there is no cupboard to put the gas bottle in.This should have been clearly explained to you when you first moved in. You need to buy an electric oven.

I can answer a few of your questions as my sister-in-law's family literally just moved to Al Warqa, and I was helping coordinate their move: - We drove from the airport terminal one to Al Warqa 2 yesterdayand it was about a 15 minute drive. Although there was no traffic - I wouldn't know how busy it gets during rush hour. - I don't know about nurseries, but I would guess that there are. There is a "circle" of about 5 schools in the middle of the apartment section of Al Warqa so given that there are schools I can only presume there are nurseries. - I don't know about delivering groceries but pretty much everywhere in Dubai has lots of mini-supermarkets that deliver so I would be surprised if you don't find one. There is also a big Aswaq that serves Al Warqa. - Play areas I didn't see any as we were driving through. Each building is stand-alone, it's not like a community, so it would depend on each building's facilities. - No idea about building maintenance, again they're stand alone buildings not run by one developer - Two bedroom apartments are between 70-90k is my understanding depending on the building and apartment layout. To be honest it is probably one of the cheapest areas in Dubai at the moment so you get what you pay for. Hope this helps!

Depends which restaurants! The arabic restaurants are generally busy and need to be pre-booked. I would also say the popular restaurants, such as The Cheesecake Factory, PF Changs, etc, do get busy very quickly - I tried to get a table at TCF in Dubai Mall at about 6:40 and they weren't able to accommodate . You would probably need to be there by 6:30 to secure a table at one of the popular restaurants. If you're not picky then you will definitely find a lot of restaurants have places.

What size apartment are you looking for? My general advice is stick to the West Heights (towers G to M), the main reason is that they have floor to ceiling windows whereas East Heights only have half windows. It makes a huge difference in terms of the feel. There were two different builders, one for East Heights and one for West Heights which is why the layouts of the apartments are different. From what I have seen West Heights have a much better layout. I think generally Tower H is considered to be the best tower, because it only has 3 and 4 bedroom apartments so has a good family feel. Also there are only 6 apartments per floor and each 2 apartments share an elevator. You usually find the Tower H apartments are the most expensive. In terms of finishing and the bathroom and kitchen fitout designs, these are all the same across the towers.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with you checking. In fact most reputable jewellery shops will go out of their way to ensure that the customer is comfortable that their diamond hasn't been swapped. I'm surprised that you would leave a sizeable diamond in the care of a shop at all, usually if you need to get a stone fitted, fixed, etc, the shop will take you into their factory so that you can see the work being done in front of you.

I exercise late, early morning doesn't work for me as I'm up at 6am for the school run. Then I'm at work 8.30 to 5.30, and I spend the rest of the evening with my children. In my building there is a fitness studio that offers 8:30pm classes so I try to go to those 2-3 times per week after my children are in bed and also on a Friday or Saturday morning. To be honest at the end of the day I'm so tired that you really have to force yourself to go, but it is worth it. Alternatively, think about home DVD programs, specifically Focus T25. It's a 25 minute high intensity workout programme, created by Shaun T, if you are familiar with Insanity. The workouts are very tough, and a continuous 25 minutes. It has been built specifically for people that struggle to find time to workout due to busy schedules and has proven results if you do the full program and eat right. I have always been skeptical about home workouts, but I find Insanity and Focus T25 to be amazing. I am as exhausted after 25 minutes of Focus T25 as I am after an hour long Les Mills class. With Ramadan working out has been a huge struggle for me, so I am now doing Focus T25 sessions at around 11pm, which sounds crazy but otherwise I have to forfeit the workout completely. I'm not sticking to the full schedule but rather doing workouts as and when I can as that is better than nothing. http://www.beachbody.com/product/fitness_programs/focus-t25-workout.do?e=417315

I have bought a 3 pay-as-you-go sim card, and then every time I go to the UK I buy a £15 add-on (All in one 15) which gives you 300 minutes, 3000 texts and "all-you-can-eat data". This add on can be used for 30 days and then expires, but I am never in the UK for longer than 3 weeks, so it works for me. Plus your UK number stays the same as you buy the sim card. I have found 3 to be the best in terms of value for money and coverage, but it may depend on your location. A huge bonus for me last time I went is that 3 has contracts with a few countries in the world where you can use your 3 sim card as a local sim card, i.e. you don't pay roaming charges. We went to Paris for 5 days and I was able to use my 3 sim card as though I had purchased a French number, and I could still utilise my free minutes, texts and data so I was pretty much using my phone for free in France.

Agree with Mrsb. I buy the Switz pastry, then I mix halloumi cheese with white cheese and some dried mint. The pastry strips fold like triangles and you use flour paste to seal them closed. I make batches and freeze them, then use whenever needed. They're incredibly easy to make, no culinary expertise required!

Ramadan started Thursday 18th and should last 30/31 days which takes us to Friday 17th July/ Saturday 18th July Eid should then start Saturday 18th/Sunday 19th subject to when the last day of Ramadan is and will last for 2 days Depending on your company will depend what you get We will get Sunday Monday either way at my company Ramadan is 29 or 30 days - never 31. The first day of Eid will be either Friday 17th July or Saturday 18th July. Not always, but generally, Hijri months alternate between being 29 days then 30 days, meaning the most likely is for Eid to start on the 17th July. However, at times you do have two hijri months back to back that have the same amount of days (so two months with 30 days in a row).
