Hmmmmmm interesting. Actually not the first time I have heard recently about landlords quickly putting down rents to stop tenants from moving. I think title deeds has become a major factor in this, as well as the fact that outstanding service fees means that he will definitely struggle to rent out the house. My guess is that the developr will not give the owner a title deed with outstanding service fees. Without a title deed it will mean that you as the tenant cannot register your contract with RERA which means your contract basically is worth nothing if it's not Ejari. I might be wrong and you already have the title deed, but if you don't the owner will be hoping to take you for a ride in the hope that you will renew not knowing about the title deed issue and he can continue to get away with whatever he wants!!!

I know what you mean mushypeas. We went through the same a couple of months ago, with our landlord wanting to sell and kept calling us for viewings. My husband outright told them that we will allow two or three serious buyers to view the apartment, and he felt that was more than generous. The landlord wanted us to allocate an hour a week where our house could be an open house for anybody to walk into. My husband was dead against the idea as he didn't want our house to be some sort of circus for anybody to see! With the few buyers that we did let in, firstly nobody seemed to be serious, secondly you feel like you are being judged, thirdly they're always late, fourthly I had to go on some huge cleaning an tidying up mission before they came for the house to be spotless which is tough with two little girls!

SEY83, we always do that... every place we lived in we immediately change the locks and upon leaving the place replace the original locks... just safer this way and no hanky panky behind my back... Lol so do we...I just always had this niggling feeling that we might be doing something wrong, in case the landlord might be entitled to a key. Hearing it from the agent made it seem legal to me!! Changing your locks is super cheap Beebers. You can get very cheap standard locks and keys for 50 odd dirhams, or you can get the more secure type for 300 odd dirhams. It's a job that you can easily do yourself. Even my DIY useless DH is able to change the locks and that is saying a lot!

Oh I should also add (and this doesn't help you Beebers as your leaving) that my agent for my new apartment handed over the key, and his first piece of advice was to change the locks because who knows how many other agents, people, etc have keys to the apartment? There is no obligation to give a copy of the key to the landlord I don't think and they have zero rights to just barge in.

I'm pretty sure that he can't, the apartment is still under your rent so he can't just have people in especailly without your permission. Our landlord is selling, and anytime he wants people to view the house he calls and ask and we either say they can come or they can't. Our current contract has a clause something along the lines of "the landlord cannot disturb the tenant for unreasonable requests". Lol it's worded way more professionally than that, but that's the general meaning, so I'm sure the landlord asking you to let people view the property is considered unreasonable.

Your husband will definitely need to sponsor you if you are here and unemployed. Once you find a job, it is most likely that you will continue you to be sponsored by your husband and your new company will issue you a labour card to work at their company. It's cheaper for the new company to do it this way and it's completely legal. I actually think it makes you more desirable as an employee as from the outset you are cheaper to employ!

Yes it sounds about right. Some of the legos are so incredibly complex. You're talking hundreds of very small pieces and an instruction booklet that they follow to ensure that they build it correctly. I think Lego are one of the companies that have the age ranges spot on. My daughter is 5 and just did one for 5 year olds and it was perfect in terms of complexity, the amount of time needed, and her being able to actually follow the instructions to build it herself with some guidance from us. I think you can buy Legos for the range 4-6 and 5-7 so i would probably go for 5-7. Like Daza said, my daughters (5 and 17 months) can sit and play legos for hours. Although, the 5 year old builds and the 1 year old destroys!! :D

No idea what the must have toys are as I have girls, but I find that lego is a pretty safe option for kids that age - they have ranges for both age groups. I don't know a child that doesn't like lego!

Hi Ligia, A husband can sponsor a wife for as long as he is employed. With most companies, the company will pay the cost of the visa for the spouse and children (approx 6000 dhs per person) as part of the expat package. However, if for any reason the company refuses to pay this cost (depends on contract), your husband can pay it personally. I find it odd that they will only sponsor you after 6 months though, as technically you can come with him right from the start. In terms of employment, you can be sponsored by your husband and then once you get a job your new company will apply for a labour card for you so you do not need a new visa. In can't tell you what the job market is like for your line of work though.

Honestly I would say look for a different nursery. Many nurseries are able to accomodate children until 5pm, or whenever you want to pick them up. It doesn't make sense for you to be fixated on one specific nursery if it doesn't meet your needs.

A guy called Bharat that works with Green Apple Real Estate. His mobile number is 055 5831688. I have just used him to rent our new property, but he told me that his main focus is sales he only does the odd rental when he knows the owner. Honestly I had lost hope that there were any decent real estate agents out there, but this guy restored my faith. He has been honest and forthright about lots of things and I haven't for a moment felt like we were being taken for a ride...unlike lots of the other agents I have spoken to!

"Shantaram" was recommended very highly to me, too, by many people so that's next on my list. I read Shantaram. I did really enjoy the story, but i found it to be a difficult read. There are a lot of pages in there where it gets philosophical which I didn't enjoy and struggled to get through. My friend gave up reading it. Having said that the story was excellent and was a huge eye opener for me. I definitely recommend it, but i would say go into it with an open mind.

It never rains in Dubai, I think he means England!" Lol made my morning at least!!

Hi CBD, Not really in response to your question (because I have no idea of the answer and the intercom in Tower H doesn't work either), but I'm about to move to Tower L from Tower H. Are there any issues I should watch out for? I'm presuming all towers are generally the same but who knows! Thanks so much!

Below is a link to their webiste - it also seems that they have a branch in JBR. http://www.bigtallstores.com/ie/home8.html

I think it really depends on if you can manage to train your baby to stay in the station. To be honest I never bought the full changing table as I saw at as one of those things that takes up space and will only be used for a short time. What I did buy is just the changing mat and I place it on the bed for changing. I know that comment isn't useful, but my point is that I used my changing mat for my first daughter up until she was potty trained, and I still use it for my second child who is now nearly 17 months. I have never been a fan of changing my child whilst standing up and in the malls I used the changing table provided (with my own mat underneath of course!). So my point is if you want to continue to use the changing table then I think you should teach him that this is the place where he will be changed and I guarantee you that if he learns that then you will use it up until he is potty trained. If you start changing him in random different places, then he will become fussy when you change him where he doesnt like to be. I believe that the same is true for most things related to babies.

I'm pretty sure that you will have to pay international fees. Although, with the change in rules for home students, I'm not sure that the difference between home and international fees is all that different anymore (somebody please correct me if I'm wrong!). I was living in Syria for the five years before I went to uni (I started uni in 2002). The only reason why I was able to pay home fees is because my dad continued to reside, work and pay taxes in the UK for the 5 years that we were living in Syria. Also the reason why my mom, brothers and I moved to the Syria in the first place were for her to take care of my grandparents. We had to plead my case to the local council and they made a judgment as to whether I was entitled to go to uni as a home or international student (the law at the time - not sure if it is still the same - was that you need to be living in the UK for three years before you enter university to be entitled to home fees).

Calpol has been discontinued. I'm also very disappointed as it was the only paracetamol my kids took willingly. It has been replaced by Panadol for kids which doesn't taste exactly the same but my daughter did still take it. Having said all this Life Care pharmacy still had a huge stock of Calpol a few weeks ago, but the pharmacist did confirm it had been discontinued. Sorry Super Care pharmacy not Life Care. I have a friend that has just seen an apartment that she really liked in Sky Gardens and was about to hand over the cheques when she read this thread on EW. She is particularly concerned about the bad smell from the sewerage lines. Does anybody have any update on this? Is the problem still there? Does anybody live in Sky Gardens, and if so can you give me some feedback to pass on to her? Thanks so much!

You could buy a 'Build a Bear' and it comes with a certificate with her name on. DD got two for me yesterday as she had a coupon for 'buy one get one free' so I got two bears for 85 dhs. Not sure where she got the coupon, but if you are thinking of buying a bear, I will ask her where she got it. edited by amelia on 12/11/2012 Agree that Build A Bear is a good idea, but I would argue that you give her a gift certificate from there and she builds it herself. My daughter received a Build a Bear for a birthday and had no appreciation of it...a few months later my mom took her and she made her own, it was the most thrilling experience for her! She adores her bear as well, as she gets to name it, stuff it, give it a sound, dress it, etc.

Yes very normal in this country - I've seen people from various nationalities do this and I even do it myself sometimes (although I usually just buy the same things so I don't do it very often). The people at the counters have sometimes asked me if I want to taste something. Also, in a lot of supermarkets they have the small bins designed so that people can throw away olive pips, etc. You can even taste dates in places like Bateel, which is normal there.

There is an Abd Al Wahab restaurant in Souq Qaryat Al Beri if you are looking for arabic. The souq is quite close to the mosque. I agree with Nedi that there isn't much to do in AD. You could go and visit Emirates Palace which is very posh and have tea or a drink there. The only other thing to do in AD is to see the corniche, they have a lovely corniche that you can walk along and it's not far from the Emirates Palace which is on the other side of the corniche. Also, it might be worth stopping by Yas Island on the way there or on the way back just for the novelty of seeing that.

Hi Kooky, I'm not sure if this is helpful but thought I would contribute anyways. I have never known a child to have a brain MRI but I have had one myself. It's a bit of a claustrophobic experience and I'm not claustrophobic at all. I can't imagine how you can convince a child to sit still in a machine for 20 minutes whilst they put them through the MRI, my 5 year old would panic I'm sure of it. i think the only way to really make a decision is to talk to your child, explain the process to them and see if you think they can handle it. You will have to explain to them that they will be alone but you will be right there. You might actually freak them out before the procedure even starts but you need to prepare them mentally. I understand your reluctance to sedate your child, and they don't actually require the sedation if you can convince them to willingly sit in the MRI, put up with the bizarre sounds with the ear plugs in their ears, not move their head, etc (I'm presuming the MRI for a child is similar to an adult). It might be easier to go with the sedation just so that your child isnt traumatized by the experience.

I agree with the other posters - I think part of the issue is because you sneak out, so your daughter doesn't know that you have left and isn't reassured that you're coming back. You need to smile at her and say "mommy is going now, I will be back in a little while". Then wave at her and let her see you go. When you disappear whilst her back is turned it's distressing her.

Babies don't need to feed at night after around 6 months! It seems that this is habit - he is definitely not hungry. After the age of 1 milk is no longer a food and is now a drink. He is getting enough nutrients from the food he eats, but he has gotten used to drinking milk in the middle of the night, the hysterical crying is because the milk is a comfort to him. Unfortunately the only way to break the habit is through tough love. You're going to have to stop his night feeds (maybe one at a time). For the next few days when he wakes up don't give him milk for one of his feeds. He will cry hysterically but after a few days he will be fine. Eventually he won't wake up at all. Then after you have stopped one feed, then stop the other. I had to do this with my daughter at 10 months. She cried for three nights, and then she just forgot about it and slept through the night. You need to stop his night feeds for your own sanity!!

Before I send you on a wild goose chase - you are looking for something like this right? http://uk.monsoon.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/mon_13,mon_13.3/2980313272 I'm sure I've seen various colours in different styles. The other place to check is BHS kids as I have seen them there before as well. There is one in MOE as well. On the first floor, as you walk from the central galleria to Ski Dubai there is a Gulf Greetings that leads to an exit - take that exit and BHS kids is one of the shops on the right (next to Osh Kosh) I think. They also had a sale on last week, so maybe that is still going. http://www.bhs.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=1&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=34096&storeId=13077&productId=5954157&langId=-1&sort_field=Relevance&categoryId=471108&parent_categoryId=&pageSize=20&refinements=category~[471620|471108'>&noOfRefinements=1

You can pay for it to be done on your behalf. If you go to Union Co-op or Spinneys Mirdif and plenty of other places you will see the men sat at tables. I saw one today for Dh350 and another for Dh500, but was not paying too much attention. The difference between the 350dhs and the 500dhs is if you want the meat to be distributed within the UAE or abroad. Or at least that was the difference a few months ago!

Pepito the quickest and simplest way to do it is to either visit any of the Union Coop branches or one of the Islamic stands at the mall. I am sure that you have seen them - there are a few charities that do it such as the Red Crescent or Dar Al Ber Society. They are literally a small kiosk, usually by one of the main doors at the mall, where a local guy sits who looks as though he is selling slips of paper. These are all different coupons for charities. You can pay for the slaughter at any of these stands, just tell them it is for Eid Al Adha sacrifice and they will make sure that they money is paid towards that. There are also various other charitable donations that you can make - just have a look at the different "coupons". You can also pay zakat there.

I don't think the vaccinations have had any effect - well none that I have noticed anyways. The eczema is a skin condition and usually a reaction to something, so maybe the vaccinations may aggrevate it a little bit, but it's definitely not the route cause. Well that's with my children at least as they get it on off until now. My youngest is now 16 months, she used to get it very badly on her legs, but its much better now as I apply Diprobase daily. The weather has an effect I find, as the weather changes the skin gets drier. My eldest is 5 and she still has flare up sometimes. However, I would say that both of my children have gotten better as they grow older. I keep remember advice and things that I have done to help this. Your doctor probably already told you this, but make sure that you use a non-biological liquid detergent. You can find some that are especially for babies. I used the brand Purity in the past which you can buy from the Union Coops.

Not personally either, yet, but I've seen it happen a good number of times in large organisations i've worked in. Once I received an email from a very angry and unhappy wife of one of our sales guys who i'd never even met, accusing me in quite some detail of all sorts of improper activity with her husband and that she had some of this filmed! I was on maternity leave at the time and all my emails were being automatically copied to my boss, who was hideously indiscreet, and he forwarded the email to all our team along with some jokey comments about my extraordinary energy levels, athleticism and commitment to inter-departmental cooperation in spite of having just given birth, but also absolving me of any part in the affair thankfully. Some of the team forwarded his email onward to their friends and so on, until I was receiving emails back from colleagues all over the world. I hasten to add the original email had been sent to me by mistake only because my name was similar to that of the person the poor wife had discovered her husband had been having an affair with in our organisation (a huge multi-national of over 100,000 staff). She'd got onto his laptop and looked up the person she thought she wanted in the global address book and got my email address from there. All extremely embarrassing for everyone concerned!!! OMG that is hideous!!! I can't believe that your boss dealt with it by sharing it with everyone - I would have been mortified!

I would definitely inform the school. He is going to get labelled anyways as a trouble maker, so why would you not let them know the real reason for his lack of concentration? Plus schools should be trained to deal with this. ADHD is common these days and I am sure that he is not the only child in school that has it. I think you have to make sure that you address it with the school in a way that is tactful. Let them know your concerns about them singling him out and that you dont want them to treat him any differently.
