I know you said not restaurants, but what about Dine in the Dark - I'm sure that qualifies as different or unusual!

I have completed Insanity, and I have done sessions from Focus T25 (although not the complete program). Insanity is ridiculously harder than T25. Firstly the sessions are longer - month one you're looking at 45 minute workouts and month two between 1 hour and 1 hour 15 minutes...and they are very tough. Having said that the results are amazing, beyond what I had imagined. If you are looking to make drastic changes to you body then I would go with Insanity, but I think you need to have good fitness level to start off with, particularly as there is no modifier with Insanity. Focus T25 I think is a program that will help you maintain fitness levels. I'm sure that if you follow the program as per the schedule you would also get very good results. Don't get me wrong, I am still exhausted after an Focus T25 workout, but Insanity is taking it to the next level. I would recommend that you start with Focus T25, especially as you already have it, and then attempt Insanity if you want to push yourself further. Or even, do Alpha from T25 to get up your fitness levels and then start Insanity. One advantage of Insanity is that you don't need any equipment, whereas T25 asks you for some equipment for Beta and Gamma.

I never bought maternity clothes from Next, but assuming you are in Dubai, New Look stocks maternity clothes. They only carry the maternity range at a couple of their branches, so you would have to call and check which branch, but I always found their maternity clothes to be fashionable and affordable. Other places are H&M, Mothercare, Destination Maternity (some of their clothes are very expensive but they have some affordable ranges in the back).

Not exactly an exotic find by any means, but there is a large shop in the Europe section selling half price perfumes and they have quite a big selection. They have a couple of outlet shops in Dubai somewhere, all perfumes are sealed and there are testers - pretty legit it seemed. So yeah it was nice to get some cheaper perfume! I think you are talking about Bellissimo. I haven't been to Global Village but Bellissimo pops up at all kinda sale events. I bought perfumes from there at a sale event a couple of years ago and they were a good deal. Their physical store is at Dubai Outlet Mall and prices are the same I believe Yes you're right that is the name of the shop. I would say they sell at about 50% of retail price. The shop was crawling with people!

Hi mums, Plz give ur feedback on FS1 placement for DS. We have to decide between Horizon school or Gems metropole. Elder DS is in Wellington International and they have offered a place in FS 2. So what to do now? Keep him in the nursery for an additional year or move him to Horizon School ( seat offered) or Gems Metropole ( close to home)? TIA I think she means Wellington has offered for FS2 next year, and the other schools have offered FS1 this year? Wellington Intl is a much better school than the other 2. edited by sourskittleashnut on 10/12/2014 My understanding was the child is currently nursery, she has applied for Wellington Int but they didn't offer a place for FS1 and instead gave a place for FS2, so she needs to figure out what to do for FS1.

It really does depend on your child and how easily they can adapt and react to change. How will he react to moving schools twice? I opted to leave my DD in nursery for FS1 but that was because she still hadn't come out of her shell and we had a lot of ups and downs so I felt nursery was the better environment for her as it is smaller and you get the support with things like going to the toilet. In terms of between Horizon and Gems Metropole, I have no experience with either school, but ultimately you are talking about FS1 as you already know he is moving to WI for FS2, sso I would probably go with the school that is closer to home. The day for FS1 is quite short and if you are doing the drop off and pick up then I would probably go with convenience. I don't think it will make much difference to his future as to which school he went to for FS1 but that's my personal opinion.

Mrssak thank you for sharing.. We are checking three of those nurseries since they are close to us. ☺️ Will check the rest. I was also hoping to find a nursery which provide Arabic and/or islamic education. Or at least a non denomination curriculum. We looked at kiddy planet and children's garden but unable to find anything else. If anyone has seen this at nursery please share. edited by DubaiNewbie2010 on 22/07/2014 The Safa Nurseries - now called Al Safa Early Learning Centre - offers Arabic and Islamic, certainly the branch that is behind the Canadian University/Union Coop does. Their other branch is close to Safa park. It's not a fancy shmancy, all singing, all dancing nursery, but it has a lovely atmosphere, staff are great and the children are very happy so I would recommend.

I never knew that some schools banned trolley bags - what is the reason? Busy corridors, bags trailing behind tripping people up. My one year old trails behind and trips people up in our school corridor, I'm hoping they don't ban him  Awwwww bless him...that is so funny though! I guess fair argument, but I also hugely object to 3 year olds carrying these massive rucksacks on their back. I spent the majority of year 1 complaining that my daughter's bag was far too heavy for a child of her age...I honestly struggled to pick it up myself half the time!

Try Al Bustan Centre - its a mall that's pretty much dedicated to evening gowns. You will find every size, shape and form and as simple or as glamourous as you want, in all price ranges. What you do need is some patience!

I love Pottery Barn Kids for lunchboxes, bags etc. My children all have PBK bento boxes with insulated bags and ice packs. As another poster says, check with the school if they have a bag policy, trolley bags are banned in a number of schools. I never knew that some schools banned trolley bags - what is the reason?

Hi ilovewine, where is your child doing FS1? School or nursery? Also, have they been at nursery previously? I think it makes a difference. In terms of bags, some schools have their own school bag, so make sure you check that first. I would probably advise a trolley bag as they are so much easier for children that age to manoeuvre. For the lunch box, I would buy an insulated one, and then fill it with a plastic lunch box and tupperwares. Let your child choose the bag and lunchbox that he/she likes, which keeps them happy and excited to use it at school. In terms of uniforms - if you have a pre-set uniform then you again have no choice. If there is no uniform then i let my daughter choose what clothes she wants to wear to nursery (she is currently FS1). We end up with her wearing the same t-shirts and the same pair of Crocs over and over again, but I have found that she is very observant of what other children wear and she likes to wear the clothes that make her happy. Others may have different ideas, but for nursery in particular I like her to feel that this is something she does for herself so she can make choices - I make her wear all the pretty dresses outside of nursery! For lunchboxes, my daughter only has one break. I put in her lunch box a sandwich, some type of fruit and something like pretzels, plain cupcake, cheese sticks, yoghurt, Ritz biscuits, etc. You may find at first that your child doesn't eat at school, which is apparently very usual but eventually they will. Also, apparently if he/she is a fussy eater they may not eat the fruit at first, but once they see other children eat fruit they slowly start. I hope this helps!

My absolute hate at the moment is when roads, shops, buildings, etc are fully or partly closed and they put up the sign that reads along the lines of "our apologies as we continue to enhance your experience". Being stuck in traffic for the last half an hour did not enhance my experience and I quite liked how it was before thank you very much! I just feel like it is such an insincere phrase! I also hate the word "giggle", not for any particular reason except that I don't like how the word sounds and it should never be used for anybody other than 5 year old girls!

Souriyat Across Borders is a charity that has been set up by 5 Syrian ladies to provide aid and support to Syrian refugees in Jordan. I know that they collect toys and clothes which they send to the Syrian refugees - they do not sell them or make any money out of it. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Souriyat-Across-Borders That is their Facebook page, maybe send them a message asking them how to donate the toys?

Sorry to go off on a tangent but has anyone ever visited the lakes regions in the summer time in Germany and felt, um, embarrassed? Those women let it all hang out! Hahaha I think it is culture there. I remember we went to a public swimming pool in Berlin that had a park attached to it and many women were topless. Then I went into the changing rooms and honestly did not know where to look...naked ladies everywhere...coming from the UK where people are the complete other extreme it was an experience!

The only one I can answer is No.1. You can be given your notice at any time in the contract, although most LL do wait until contract renewal time. In our case this was not true. We moved into a property in November 2012, property was sold and the new LL gave us notice to leave in May 2013, asking us to be out by May 2014. We went to the rent committee and won the case to remain in the property until November 2014 - RC said that you can only give notice at the signing of a new contract, but in our case it may have been because we had only just rented the property. However, they said all contracts have to be registered with Ejari and Ejari only issues contracts that are 1 year - there is no such thing as a contract for a few months. I'm not an expert and telling you what I know from our experience. If I was you I would go to the Rent Committee and not communicate with her at all. She has to prove to the rent committee why she requires the property for personal purposes, and if she can't prove that then you will win the case. I also think the correspondence that you have with her from trying to put up the rent shows that initially she was not intending to use the property herself.

Hi BonBon, We held my brother's wedding at The Westin last November for about the same number of people and we paid 250 Dhs per person. Depending on how extravagant that you want the wedding, your friend may end up paying a lot more for extras. We had a wedding planner help us plan the event (let me know if you need a recommendation), and so we ended up not using a lot of the things that came with the package. The hotel were great to deal with and generally accommodating with our requests, the lady that was allocated to our event was great, although she didn't have a lot of authority on somethings but she usually helped us negotiate what we wanted - we had an issue with the wedding cake which she helped us deal with. Unfortunately she has since left the country. The food was incredible - I can't tell you how many of our guests complimented the food. I would recommend The Westin, but my biggest piece of advice is to negotiate. Although that is my advice for wherever your friend goes with! I doubt that you will have luck getting the price down, but you can negotiate more for your money, in particular with regards to the menu. Other places to consider: The Emirates Towers Goldolphin Ballroom (I think that was slightly cheaper than 250dhs), The Murooj Rotana (definitely cheaper), The H Hotel, The Ritz Carlton DIFC. Those are all hotels that offer packages around the same price as what your friend is looking at. I would stay clear of any of the Jumeirah properties as they are much higher in price. The One and Only Royal Mirage and The Downtown Address probably wont work as they have small ballrooms. I planned my brother's wedding, hence I have a lot of info!

SP my brother recently got married in the UAE. Him and his wife both have British passports and are Muslim. She was a UAE resident and he lived in the UK, so no residency here. I helped with a lot of the procedures with the marriage, and although I can't 100% remember, I'm 95% certain that nobody went to the British embassy here for any documents. They did the medical test as you have described (pretty sure there was no additional fee for pick-up of the results but don't quote me on that), and then the rest of the paperwork we did through one of the registered marriage officials. We literally called one of the Marriage Officials listed on the below list off the Dubai Government portal and he told us everything that was required and then came to our house to do the ceremony and took care of registering the marriage. I think we paid him a fee of 1,000 dhs for the service. The one point to note is that the female needs with her the consent from her father to marry, or if the father is deceased then consent from a brother or uncle plus a death certificate of the father. I recommend you call one of the numbers listed, they were very helpful with us - if one of you speaks Arabic then this is probably better. http://www.dubaicourts.gov.ae/portal/page?_pageid=292,457284&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL

The butt bible on YouTube is really good. Also, T25 is really good. I second Focus T25 or even Insanity if I have more time - it's a really good workout, but very tough and not for the faint hearted. Much tougher than Jillian Michaels. You can commit to the full program, or just do it when you have time. I'm not sure you will find the videos on You Tube, but I have seen them sold at Sun, Sand and Sports.

I'm not an expert, but my understanding is that the general law is as you have stated. However, there are many exceptions to this rule, and you can apply for home status which is then assessed on a case by case basis. You're asked to complete forms, sign declarations, etc, with regards to why you are not living in the UK at the moment. I don't think you can find an answer here, you need to present your case for the relevant people to assess.

I'll confuse you further. Not sure about spice one, but could it be ground coriander? You can get coriander that's ground really finely and is quite dark in colour, but you also get it lighter and the texture is more flakey, such as below: http://www.seriouseats.com/2011/03/spice-hunting-coriander-how-to-use.html Spice two I think is black cumin seed, especially since you said that you have seen it on break in the Coop. In arabic it's called habbet baraka: http://ediblefacial.com/2013/12/03/osmia-organics-founder-dishes-about-king-tut-and-cleopatra-oh-and-black-cumin-seed-oil/ Regarding the mint, in addition to the other suggestions I put dried mint on a green salad. My dressing is mint, cumin, salt, lemon and olive oil (you can also add sumac as well).

Izzy on my case we did the polite "excuse me, the queue is over here and we are next in line"...the woman's response was definitely not what we had expected. I have never met anybody so rude or aggressive in my life! Honestly, after that experience I think twice about reminding people that they have queue jumped - it was not a pleasant day!

The initial post seems to have been deleted but from the gist of other posts we're talking about queue jumping and how aggressive some people are? I had a unforgettable experience in Mother Care a few years ago. It was one of those queues where there was one queue to serve three cashiers. I was front of that queue, and so a lady decides to disregard the queue and then just wait behind one of the customers that was near to finishing. My friend told her that we were already in line. She responds and basically says that we're too stupid to queue properly. My friend then answers back as she was so rude. We basically ended up with her husband lunging at my friend and then when somebody told him he was a man shoving a woman, his wife decided to finish what he had started. Most bizarre situation I have ever been in, I was 7 months pregnant, my friend had a small child with her and they had a small child with them as well. Me and my friend tried to walk away from the situation, they then followed us around the mall and had security call the police on us! We ended up in the mall police station. Needless to say our husbands went ballistic when they heard the story and wanted the police to open up the CCTV cameras in store so that we could press charges. The police said it would lead to a registered court case if we do that, so we ended up deciding to let the whole matter go and all of us had to sign disclaimers to say that we wouldn't take the matter further.

If you're happy to take your own measurements and have the patience, then your cheapest bet is to go to Dragon Mart and have them made there. Take a photo of the style that you like, and then there are numerous shops that sell curtain fabric and make the curtains for you based on what you want. Shop around and negotiate, you often find a lot of the shops sell the same fabric patterns so you do have some bargaining power! Remember to request black out as well. They usually have them ready for you within 24 hours and will fit them for you at an extra cost. I haven't found a shop in Dubai that compares to Dragon Mart based on cost, and the quality is decent.

Facetime will work fine for her, my iPhone was purchased from the UK and it works perfectly. UAE iPhones don't have the Facetime software on them at all, which is how it is blocked, but if the iPhone has the Facetime software on it then you can use it as you would in the UK even if it has a UAE sim card. You can actually buy the iPhone with Facetime here from some retailers, and it will be sold as an "international version with Facetime".

Mine absconded in March 2013, we had her passport and so reported it to the authorities and immediately cancelled her residency. The authorities took her passport from us and kept our 2000 Dhs deposit. Since then she has kept trying to make contact with me over Facebook, but I have ignored her as I don't have anything to say to her. She then called me once from Indonesia so I know that she made her way home somehow, either through the embassy, or the police found her and sent her home with our deposit money but they never informed us if they did. I actually thought she felt some remorse which is why she was making contact with me. However when she couldn't get through to me she made contact with our neighbour's maid over Facebook and asked her to tell my new maid to tell me that she wanted me to send the stuff that she left in our house to her! I was honestly shocked at her cheek! She's now apparently working in Taiwan.

I recently did this and the best way was through an exchange house. My transfer was dirhams to sterling pounds and the cheapest exchange rate that I got was from UAE Exchange. If you tell them you have a big amount to transfer then they phone their head office to get the cheapest exchange rate they can offer you. All other places were a few fils more expensive, which like you said goes a long way with a large amount. I wouldn't use the banks as they are very expensive. So you need to withdraw your money from the bank and then take it to the exchange house. Make sure you keep the slip which shows you withdrew the money from your bank account as they won't transfer the money for you without it as they want proof of where the funds came from. If you don't use UAE exchange then make sure you use a reputable exchange house so that no questions get asked your way. It was a relatively easy process and the money was in my uk bank account with 2 days.

I'm not meaning to sound mean, but if I was you I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. In the grand scheme of things it's only 1,000 Dhs. I know that is a lot of money for some people, but 1,000 Dhs doesn't really go very far in the UAE, and I would just look at this as the good deed that your husband intends it to be. If this money does help the cousin, then that is great, and if it is a scam then the amount isn't too much to get upset about. If he is taking you all for a ride then it will come back to bite him. In the meantime just forget about it - it sounds like your husband is quite grounded about the whole situation and will know when to put his foot down.
