Thanks busybee! Can you lower your Dimarco bills by not running the cold water tap and turning off water heaters? Or is it more just about A/C use, and so you're stuck with it?

So bills depend on what area of Abu Dhabi you live in, not on how much you use???

Are snakes, rats, bees, etc a common sight in villas? Have been putting off moving into villa because of this. Just a note on bees. The exterminators wanted to fumigate the beehive in the corner of our old backyard. Our Sri Lankan housemaid told us not to, and she fearlessly walked up to the hive with a bowl and knife, and had fresh honey dripping out of the bottom of the hive. The bees never bothered the children. When they exterminators came back, one of them again wanted to exterminate the hive, and this time their South Asian supervisor told them not to. I'm glad. (Of course, we didn't have to worry about bee allergies or it would have been a different matter!) This was on an edge of Dubai where there was a lot of construction, so there were a lot of rats and mice outside (even though there were cats everywhere), but they never came indoors. edited by SFtoUAE on 25/06/2011

OK, I noticed this thread is getting a lot of hits, so here's some research - though it doesn't say anything about construction quality directly. :( A recent article on some serious financial issues at Aldar: http://www.thenational.ae/thenationalconversation/industry-insights/markets/aldar-properties-falls-after-moodys-cuts-ratings And here's one on financial issues at Aldar and Sorouh. It mentions Emaar in DXB as being in good financial shape, and I don't know if it's coincidence, but they're one of the reliable cos. in Dubai. http://www.arabianbusiness.com/the-best-worst-uae-property-analysts-397067.html?view=profile&itemid=397051 edited by SFtoUAE on 24/06/2011

If you don't mind the trek to Dubai and really want to save money, the shops at Dragon Mart will do lined custom curtains for you for very good prices. My friend got some lovely ones made there and liked the experience.

You can contact Aldar directly for Al Bandar. They have a leasing office on site. Hey Chgo2AD, you read my mind, that was my fav of all the places I've looked so far, but their 2brs are gone, or too expensive. By Marina yes I did mean Al Reem Is. - another good guess! So if you don't go by the builder when choosing a home in AUH, then which maint. cos. are the best would you say?
