Perhaps u shud consider shifting to Al Wasl? Their pediatric department is excellent and one of the best in the country. When my brother was arnd 2 months old, he had high fever, vomiting and all and my parents went to 2-3 different doctors.. the poor kid had blood tests done and it was a terrible time. Anyways, he was finally taken to Al wasl where they confirmed he had menengitis. Of course, all this was 20yrs back, but i am thinking thier facilities ar even better now. Hope your child feels better soon.

well i already had an airmiles card. After which i got the hsbc card. so when i paid with my hsbc card and gave my airmiles card, it somehow got conjoined and now i get airmiles while using the hsbs card. the best thing is, all the hsbs cards in my family, ie, my dad's, moms, brothers and mine's are all linked to my airmiles... so when any of them use it, i get the airmiles!!! mwahahahah! Got a funky camera lens with all that airmiles! :)

thanks for your replies ladies.. in short, i think its not possible to come home sane. Double buggy is not an option as DS doesnt like to sit, even before dd was born.. and also, if i push the buggy, i wont be able to do anything else. And by shopping i dint mean clothes. DD needs to be in a sling and DS needs to walk or be in the trolley (which he wont stay for more than 10mins!) so that i have my hands free. We are actually moving houses in Doha, and want to buy our furniture from here... Doha only has Home Centre and we r IKEA fans. So DH is in Doha, while I am here till DD's visa and stuff are sorted. So if I want household stuff other than home-centre ones, then i need to get out and buy it.. DH is perfectly happy to ship it to Doha for me provided i get what i want. Now dont sit on my DH;s case because he isnt helping.. our circumstances are such. And yes, homecentre has lovely stufff, but every house in doha pretty much only has homecentre stuff i think. I know a babysitter, but DS is still not going to go to her.. damn! so lost! Burnsie000: u are my role model.. i always wonder how on earth u do it with kids even younger than mine! msg me on Fb or something.. lets sort out that play date before i go away! :)

I would really recommend u dont do it alone. If your husband is going to all these places with you, its ok, else dont do it with 2 toddlers. Its hot, its very busy (busier that shk zayd rd during rush hour) and its dirty and its very crowded. I personally think its sheer madness to travel to such highly populated countries with small kids. I was there with my 5 month old a couple of yrs back and I definitely wont be going abck in a hurry. Not because the place is bad, but its difficult and its not exactly very safe. And dont even think of going on the metro with kids.. the crowd is too mcuh!

u could do it yourself? Its not that hard. You can google it too. Just lay your baby on a sheet/changing table/bed, get some oil and gently massage the arms, legs, body, bum, etc. Just make sure you stick to one routine, ie hands first, then shoulders, then body, then legs, etc.. a 10min massage is sufficient really.. I massaged my DS till he was about 9months.. and still oil him before his bath. Its really good for their skin. And I dont use soap to wash of the oil.. it just gets absorbed in the towel when i dry him.. and no he isnt an oil slick either :D Plan to do the same for baby 2 from tomm inshalla :)

Shaf Congratulations !! I'm so happy for you and your baby You seemed to have strongly shown, each time it was necessary, your determination It is giving me courage for my babies to come !! I wish you the best Regards lol!!! Funny how different women see it isnt it? My mom calls it being stubborn and u call it being determined! :) She cant believe I did it on my hands and knees! She wishes she knew abt that bit of info when she had us. :) Just remember, its your body and no one has a right to touch it unless u wish them to, and if anything is wrong, u will know. So dont listen to anyone but yourself, trust your body and your babies will walk out smiling :)

I delivered a healthy full term baby girl on 15 Feb at City Hospital at 4:10am and delivery was everything I wanted for me and my baby :) Dr. Elsa - I have no words to describe my gratitude for her.. God truly blessed the day I decided to see her! :) Let me give you a short background of me. I have a 20month old DS who took 24 hours to deliver, and that too with an epidural at 18hrs, an episiotomy and tearing of such extreme that they dint even know how many stitches they put. I got 3 infections on and around my stitches making my postnatal experience one of the most painful times of my life. It took 3 courses of antibiotics to get rid of the infections, 3months for the pains to go away completely and almost 9months before I felt normal down there. Fast forward to this pregnancy, I met Dr. Elsa at 33weeks and she seemed very patient, did not hurry me and actually took the time to hear out my fears. My labor was extremely short (yea seriously 2 hrs!). It started about 2:00am. I called the hospital at 2:30am. At 3:20 I woke my mother to stay with my son, and we left home around 3:30am. I live near MCC and the ride from home till City hospital was the longest ever! Thanks to a hump at the entrance of CH, my waters broke in the car. When we reached the maternity ward the time was 3:45am. At the maternity ward, there were 2 nurses, and they were so relaxed to the point of uncaring. I jumped on to the bed on my hands and knees and one of the midwives said she could not check me. I was screaming for an epidural the whole time. She wanted me on my back. So I moved to my back for her to check and she said I was already 10cms open and she cant give me an epidural. And she was definitely not gentle. I flipped back to my hands and knees and was already beginning to push and begging for some kind of pain relief. And the stupid, incompetent, unprofessional midwife told me, at that point when I was the most vulnerable, that my baby was going to die and it wont be their fault if that happens! She said this twice at which point, I told her in very eloquent terms to shut up. Why? Because I refused to go the traditional way and deliver on my back. At this point apparently (the dr. told me later), she called up the doctor and told her that I was uncontrollable and she should come quick. Even google can tell you that at 10cms, I was in the transitional phase of labor when a woman does get a bit frantic. However as a trained midwife she was unable to cope with me for the 20minutes I was under her care! Thankfully Dr. Elsa came in by which time I had already started pushing. At 4:10 my beautiful baby girl was born. I had no stitches, no drugs, Dr. Elsa guided my birth so amazingly by telling me when to push, when to hold, she did not stop me from screaming when I pushed, instead she was calm and even called in my DH to watch the birth, she remembered that I wanted the cord to stop pulsing before it was cut, she remembered that I wanted my placenta to come out naturally and stopped the midwife from injecting me, she put the baby on me directly and just covered her with a towel instead of the usual rushing the baby away to be cleaned! She was so fantastic and gave me the best birth I could possibly want. Considering the amount of patients she meets in a day, it is simply amazing that she remembered everything I wanted at 4 in the morning and actually followed it. At 4:30am I took a shower and then had to wait till 5:45am before I could get a room, not because they had no rooms, but because they had paper work to do. Dont know why they couldnt do it when I was in bed. The labor bed was unclean, there was no seat to sit. Finally someone found me a stool to sit on and lean on the wall! As soon as I reached my room the nurse wanted to check my privates, which I refused and then she got all miffed and told me that I was her responsibility, that I shud cooperate, and blah blah! Of course, at every shift, every nurse wanted to check me and I refused all of them. There was absolutely no need considering that I had no stitches. But it was incomprehensible for them to it is actually possible to deliver without drugs or stitches. Funnily, when Dr. Elsa came in the next day, I offered to get myself inspected which she declined saying there was nothing to check! Instead she discharged me immediately. They are so short staffed there, that the nurses simply have no time to provide the care.

My verdict: Dr. Elsa: Women who are with her, rest assured you have the best doctor possible. She is gentle, encouraging, supportive, she trusts your body. She is not a drug crazed doctor, she doesn't interfere if u don't want her to. Midwives: Incompetent, unprofessional and not even humane! If you wont take the traditional path of lying on your back, be ready to tell them off. If I weren't a second time mum, I would have actually believed that cow and probably ended up with stitches and a long labor. City Hospital: Very understaffed. The nurses are nice, but they are not used to natural delivery, and they are too busy to actually give you care. To the point, the nurse was quite happy when I said I dint want my daughter to be bathed! One less headache for her! But they were very gentle with DD when she had to have her blood taken. They dint even have pillow cases when we asked. And no towels "because we have had so many deliveries today". No chairs also in the labor room, so don't take that shower till you reach your room! My advice to women: Read Ina May Gaskin's guide to child birth. I truly believe that book is the reason I delivered naturally and labor was so short. Open your mouths during your labor and especially during your contraptions. Deliver on your hands and knees - You cant poo lying on your back, how on earth should a baby with bones come out of you when you are in your back? Good luck lovely ladies! :)

Hello ladies! Verrrrry quiet on this thread - how are you all doing?? Any news from anyone?? I am 39 weeks today and am sooo ready for this little girl to arrive! Saw my doc on Tues and am not dilated but cervix is nice and thin so everything's ready - eeeek :) DH and I don't know what to do with ourselves! We are technically ready but I keep getting myself in a right old dither wondering whether or not I will recognise the onset of labour - LOL, everyone, from my mother to my best mate, assures me I will. Let me know how you're all doing, is anyone due on Monday as I'm thinking a Valentine's bambino could be cute :) Oh u will definitely know when u r in labor... Like my doula said, if u are in doubt then u arent in labor! I am 38weeks (second preg) and cant wait to pop! But LO seems to be quite cosy inside! Still getting kicked in my ribs!

Its 12hrs overnight in a bus to cappadocia. But I went with a friend and loved it. Never take the front row seats in the bus tho. And u can sleep in the bus. Trains are too long and plane was too expensive then. Whatever u do, do not miss the Underground city of Cappadocia.. simply awesome. U need only 2 days in Cappadocia really. Best is to hire a tour for 2 days, they come and collect u from the hotel and then take u all over. Its fun and easiest.. We stayed in Urgup.. a tiny cave hotel :) I'd say go for a week! 4days in istanbul and 2 days in cappadocia! Plenty to do in istanbul, see the cisterns, the blue mosque, hagia sophie, the bosphoros, the princess islands, eat lots of doner kabab, take a tour bus of the city, see the dolmobache palace, etc etc. Lots of fun! :) Oh and u can book the tours once u r there. There r so many small travel agents, outside the hotel, u can get a good deal from them. Just go to 2 or 3 and u can figure the best rates urself. They are super friendly. The hotel we stayed in Istanbul was called Sari Konak, its got good ratings on tripadvisor.com. Very reasonable and lovely breakfast and right in the tourist areas near blue mosque. Its not 5 star, but very nice. edited by shaf on 13/02/2011

He is 20months and still using it. It has straps, but I think 6months maybe a bit to early.. maybe u can wait another month so that his back is strong enough? My son started using it around 7-8months i think.. i cant remember.. Or you can just put a small cushion or roll 2 towels on the side to give him supprt. The reasons I liked it was because its cheap, easy to clean, no extra bits and peices, The tray can be completely removed to clean, the tray can be adjusted to baby's size so as they grow older u can just pull the tray front, its plastic covered so no stains will stick, it doesnt have a leg divider which i feel is good for kids all sizes and ages. Hope it helps! :)

I am a SAHM.. I quit working 3 yrs back.. great job but very stressful.. i was living on adrenaline all the time.. and maybe thats y we dint get pregnant either.. cos 3months after i quit i got pregnant.. Yes it is a bit weird not to have a job and be rushing all the time.. it takes a while to get used to sleeping in late.. and finding things to do with all that time in your hands.. I even went on a trip with a friend during that time.. had a blast! Now, I have a 20month old now and another one due in a couple of weeks inshalla, and i just recently found myself a new career in photography.. I enjoy it, its less stressful, i can do it at my own flexible timings, i am always there for my son. Agreed the pay isnt what I used to get, but I am happy. And yes, inshalla i hope I never have to work full time... :)

Honestly, dont worry too much about your weight unless you are going a bit tooo much overboard. WIth my first pregnancy, i put on 5kgs in the first trimester, this time nothing. Depends from kid to kid I guess. As long as you eat healthy, drink lots of water, u shud be good. :) Sometimes hormones go crazy and u put on weight.. cant do much abt it. Good luck!

I am with Dr. Elsa and I think she is fab. Never rushes ur appointments.. quite open to different positions to labor and deliver. It takes arnd 2-3months to get ur first appt, but after u take a package, they slot u in pretty much where u want. I am due to pop in another couple of weeks, so I can tell u more abt the delivery and stuff then, but from what I hear, Dr. Elsa is very good and promotes natural birth. She is quite happy for me to have my doula with me and she gives her mobile number too if thats any help.

I usually wear 2 layers of clothing... so when i needed to bf, i would pull the lower top neck line down and life the upper top up. That way only the nipple was out (covered by baby) and the rest of me was covered. Sometimes you cant find a coffee shop and baby is bawling, so just sit anywhere and put the buggy in front of you. I've sat in the central area of MOE and BFed without problems. Dont worry too much.. u'll be a pro with a few feeds!
