Oh yes Red tea, white tea, frothy tea (heineken) special lemonade (gin & tonic) and pork ribs The best thing about Sharjah in the early days were all the different little booze shops down by the power house all trying to get you to buy so great deals could be had :)

changed career totally at the grand old age of 47. Never regretted doing it although it was and still is sometimes difficult learning and understanding different concepts. Worst thing was going from the one who made decisions to one who was not sure any more. But 6 years down the line am still slogging away. Need to win the Lottery :) Seriously in my previous career woke up one day and decided I did not enjoy it any more, always said if it got to this point it was time to say goodbye which I did gave notice; felt very guilty leaving many people in the lurch but I knew I could not go on and it was not fair to me, my family, other staff, children or parents. I made the right decision but only you will know; it's difficult and I still somehow regret giving in but life goes on. Good luck

Going to the top of Jebel Hafeet with a 6 inch B & W TV that ran on 12 v so that we could watch North and South as Al Ain did not pick up Dubai 33 and Abu Dhabi TV was hopeless even Mickey Mouse was censored kissing Minnie :) Picking up from the local video shop a very poor copy of Darling Buds of May on 3 cassettes totally hooked could not go to bed until we had watched them all. A traffic policeman who when you had gone through a radar jumped out in front of your car to give your the speeding fine soon found out how good your brakes were! Then as they pulled you over to write the ticket making your child cry loudly which they couldn't cope with so they let you go with a warning. Buying all the Bisto when it came into the very small Spinneys in Al Ain. My mother bringing red cross type parcels of Imperial Leather Soap. All the American service personnel based in Al Ain during the first Gulf War with their Yummy Yummy hot chocolate mix; opening doors for your saying Good Morning Ma'am

Rented a villa in Sharjah visited it a few times on my way through Sharjah from Al Ain to UAQ dropping of breakable stuff each time I spent maybe 2 - 3 hours trying to find the house. Got very frustrated. Can remember when Beirut road from Sharjah to Dubai opened it was fantastic hardly anyone used it as it was 'miles' away from the centre of Sharjah. My son used to horse ride in UAQ stayed often at the Pearl hotel....Fawlty Towers had nothing on that place. Rented a weekend villa in UAQ 3 bed with garden including water and electricity for 8,000 AEd a year to avoid staying at the Pearl.

Came to Abu Dhabi in 1981, when most of the side roads were sand the large cows with the big hump on their back roamed the streets; still remember vividly trying to shoo one away who was leaning on my car much to the amusement of the watchman. Started work at Capitol radio when it was a small building on the corniche. After 2 years moved to Al Ain where upon asking how I got there I was informed to drive down the Al Ain Rd (1 lane each way) untill I got to the big red sand dune then I was in Al Ain, not to blink in case I missed it :) Spent 12 happy years there. Then moved to Sharjah where I have been ever since. I preferred the old times. It was a treat to drive to Dubai from Al Ain to go 'shopping' spotting the trade centre on the horizon meant you were nearly there. Dubai, in fact all the UAE, in those days had a soul now it does not. To me it is a "Play centre" for adults.

Had the same problem with earrings from there; small diamond kept dropping out. You need the receipt and they do it for free except after a year they make a nominal charge

My pest control guy told me that Pif Paf no longer works on them so use Baygon instead. I sprayed the bedroom last night which is where they all hang around ready to bite me and I did not get bitten once last night so at the moment thumbs up for Baygon.

And the technical answer is:- Dwarf vs Midget Dwarf and midget are sometimes used synonymously. That is because these two terms refer to people that are vertically challenged. However, the terms dwarf and midget are not similar. They are totally different from each other. Here are some major differences between a dwarf and a midget. First of all, you have to be careful when using these terms when referring to vertically challenged individuals. Midget is considered not politically correct and has derogatory connotation. Among the community of vertically challenged individuals, the term dwarf is not offensive. In terms of physical characteristics, the term dwarf refers to very short individuals with disproportionate body. A dwarf could have a normal sized head but with very short arms and small hands. In contrast, a midget is an individual with very short stature but has proportional body. Because of these distinguishing characteristics, there is no associated problem with the growth of a midget while the growth of a dwarf can cause disability. A dwarf person has a medical condition called dwarfism. This is caused by a genetic disorder. Meanwhile, a midget usually inherits the condition from his or her parents. It can also be caused by malnutrition. Because dwarfism is a specific medical condition, a dwarf can suffer from lots of physical and health problems. It should be noted that a midget is a person in perfect health. A dwarf can suffer from malformed bones and joints, nerve compression, and possible disorientation of the organs. These conditions will not happen to midget people. A dwarf can correct the condition through surgery. A procedure called limb lengthening surgery is usually performed. A midget can add more inches to his or her height by taking hormonal supplements and proper nutrition. These are the characteristics that distinguish a dwarf from a midget. Do take note that the socially acceptable term for vertically challenged individuals is dwarf and not midget.

I am not sure what you do but my maid goes home for a month every year and takes with her a double salary for that month - that is to say a 13th months salary which is her gratuity. Maybe this is what your maid is asking for?

As an ex Head Teacher and an educationalist of over 25 years I would have cringed if any of my colleagues had written a letter in such a way. To take the letter apart and dissect its good and bad attributes is wrong, in my opinion. One should look at the letter in its entirety and then judge it on its merits.

I think the easiest way from Emirates Rd is to go as far as Sharjah Airport Rd, past National Paints, effectively turn left on Airport Rd (Sharjah Airport will be right at this junction) go down the road crossing over the flyover where you can see The Holy Quran roundabout ahead (Book Roundabout) bear off to your right as you come off the flyover so you get to Book roundabout take 2nd right (straight on) go straight through a set of lights straight through (going around) 3 roundabouts till you get to the sea turn left follow the coast all the way along passing the Heritage area on the left the sea on your right; past the fish souq to a large roundabout with a fluover above it keep straight and you will bump into the Blue Souq on the other side of the roundabout. Happy Shopping

Good Morning, I did post on another thread that there are lots of pussats at Sharjah Animal Souq that I think should not be there, quite a few 'older' pedigree cats who are well groomed which is unusual there. I personally would not take children there as if it is as full of animals as it was a few days ago the way they are kept is heartbreaking. There is also an older lab and an older white fluffy dog there as well if anyone is missing these. If you tell me where you are coming from or what landmarks in Sharjah you know I will direct you. It usually opens around 10am.

Not meaning your cat but to let everyone know there are a lot of 'older' pussats at Sharjah Animal Souq pedigree ones some beautifully groomed which is strange for there. There is also a young lab and a white fluffy dog who are not puppies at all. So if you know anyone who has lost a pedigree pussat or lab it maybe worth a look.

I am not certain as my daughter does not have kids. However he is extremely gentle with all adults he just is not coping with being the 5th dog in her group of 4 legged. He does want to be the alpha dog and does not seem to understand that a Great dane is 4 times his size. however with people he just wants love and affection and is happiest by his masters feet or cuddling on the sofa if he can get away with it:)
