Hello! I'm going to be in Dubai from 6th until 27th Nov and would really like some female company! My husband has been a resident since January and I go over as often as I can, with the bigger plan being that I will join him to live there next April. So far I've only been having breaks of 2 weeks at a time but I find it quite boring being by myself all day while my husband is at work! It would be great to meet people and hopefully start to make up a friendship group of my own. We are in JLT area but I'm happy to travel for a coffee or glass of wine!!! (Well as long as its on the metro, I'm not confident on the roads yet). Please get in touch if you are free and would like to meet up. Thanks, Sharlene x

Hi Sharlene, It is a scary time, flying into the unknown. Everyone has been there. We have been here 18 months. We are originally from Scotland too. At the moment it's quiet here as its summer, most women go back home to their own countries, esp if they have kids. So the forum is very quiet. We don't have kids, so I stay the whole summer, and actually enjoy the peace and quiet. If you want, I will give you my email, and you can ask me absolutely anything you want, no matter how silly you think it is. Sandra. Hi Sandra, it's Sharlene here. I have been trying to get in touch with you via messenger and FB but I can't see you? I hope all is well, please get in touch when you have time as I don't want to loose contact. X

Hello ladies, sorry to jump into your conversation- I hope you don't mind. I'm coming over on Thursday 29th Sept until Saturday 8th October for a visit as my husband moved over a couple of weeks ago. Obviously I won't know anyone but I would love to meet up and get to know some people to help built friendships before I move over in December 2017. I'm 39 and I have a daughter of 18 but she will not be moving with us as she is starting university next September- hence why I am not moving until she is settled. If you are free and fancy a coffee, cinema or whatever please let me know as I will.have all day every day to myself. I'm not local so I could be wrong but I think my husband is in the West Bay Area, near the corniche? I'm keen to check out the Pearl for when we rent more permanent accommodation. Thanks! ??

Hello and thank you for the messages, they are really helpful. It's been quite a busy few weeks here trying to get organised but All is in hand now and my husband loves on Tuesday 13th Sept to start his new job and I plan to come over on 29th Sept until 9th October for a holiday and to check things out. I would really love to meet up with people even just for a coffee? I'm not 100% sure where his accommodation will be as it seems to be changing all the time but I'm happy to travel to meet up. X

Sorry to bother you but I have been going through this forum looking for 'answers' to the many question so have regarding our move to Qatar from Scotland! When you mention dogs as excess baggage, does that mean I can keep him with me on the flight? Also, I will definitely look into bringing him home on short notice- I never considered this! Phew, so so much to learn! X

Hello, thank you so much for the reply especially the advice about getting my dog over, I will look into that. My husband will be going over around 1st September and I plan to go back and forth for a while. It's all becoming quite real now and I have to say I'm getting a little nervous! Fingers crossed it goes ok, time will tel.... Can I ask if you feel safe getting around by yourself? Dress wise do you just adhere and be respectful or do you wear local dress? Thanks- I hope my questions don't sound crazy! X

Hello. I posted a few weeks ago that my husband was considering a job offer in Qatar and he has now taken the job! He will relocate around 1st September and I plan to go back and forth until our daughter starts uni in the UK Sept 2017. However, now that we are discussing our big move with friends, colleagues etc I am starting to get a little anxious and would really appreciate some honest advice or words of wisdom from expat who are actually there living a life! Although my husband has been to the Middle East on many occasions for work, I have never been and I have taken the view that nothing ventured nothing gained and if I/we don't settle we can always come home. Am I right to be like this? Will I be free to 'live' or is it going to be a complete shock? Do you feel safe? Many thanks for any advice! X

Hi, sorry to intrude in your conversation but we are looking to move as my husband has been offered a job with similar money and I was wondering how you are finding things? (I know it's only been a few weeks) We are moving from Scotland and I wonder if you are also able to tell me a rough relocation cost if we decide to ship over some belongings too. Thank you very much. X

Hi, we are from the UK and my husband has just been offered a job in Qatar, we are seriously considering giving it a try as living the expat life is something we have always wanted to do. Our daughter has just left school and will be going on a gap year before starting university in Scotland in 2017 so we are sorted there for now. We have a small dog who I would hate to leave behind but I don't know how we could get him over without too much stress for him? Any help, advice or thoughts to consider would be greatly appreciated as I don't know where to start and we only have a few days to decide! Excited but apprehensive! I'd love to hear your own stories of settling there. Thanks in advance! X
