Hello, where are you moving from? What curriculum is he following? I also have a high functioning autism son who is in year 1 mainstream GEMS school here in Dubai. He is following the British curriculum and has a full time support teacher in the classroom. We have to pay all costs of the support teacher which work out to be the same as the school fees. Does your husband get a school allowance? Does it cover any element for SEN? If not, it can work out to be very expensive. The school has a great inclusion team who see him outside of lessons and provide support with sensory, motor skills etc. Additionally they have an outside company that comes to the school to provide SLT and OT, but this is an extra cost. It is good because they do it at the school and can work with the parents and teachers. What I did find on first arrival was that many of the 'good' schools are secretly selective in their admissions process and as soon as you mention SEN their 'quota' for SEN children is suddenly full although they like to come across as inclusive. Additionally when you start at a school you will find that a full time support teacher will be a requirement for them to be enrolled. My son has developed so much and can follow the curriculum as well as all his peers. His support teacher helps him with other things like playtime, lunch, sports etc. Also if he is feeling overwhelmed in class she can support him outside the classroom. Hope this helps. Hello Spangle2014, My son is going to a GEMS school ; he also has high functioning autism. If you can could you please call me on 056-5080705 as I would like more information of the school you have mentioned that offers an outside company that comes to the school to provide SLT and OT. Thanks.

Good Morning Mummies, My son has mild autism, he is 7 years old. He went to a normal school last year in Abu-Dhabi with a shadow teacher. We are in the process of moving to Dubai so he can attend easily the MD speech pathologist who has been taking care of him since he was 3 years and a half. Do you know any school in Dubai where Special Needs children are accepted easily and how to find a good shadow teacher. Thank you very very much!! Hello, you can try at Cambridge International School and also Gems Metropole school.

Hello, I was going through the forum and came across this thread. I am the one who is opening up the inclusion Centre in GEMS Metropole (Motor City). Last year in June my 3 year old son was diagnosed with Autism. I had to move with him to the UK where he has been receiving Speech & Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and ABA. I, obviously, couldn't keep him in the UK forever and struggled to find reliable therapy in the UAE which inspired me to set something up in the UAE. Through the support of the good people at GEMS Metropole I have managed to open an inclusion centre over there to help people in a similar situation to me. We are enrolling now and are conducting baseline assessments in the last week of May. If you want to discuss further then please send me your details and I can get in touch. Shamaila Hello Shamaila, could you please make contact with me, my number is 0565080705. My son has PDD and currently going to mainstream school which has a SEN Dept.
