Anisa - My DD is in Jebel Ali Nursery and we applied for schools starting FS2 2014 last year in Aug. Did visit one of the schools this morning and was told she is 37th on the waitlist for FS2 next year and has very slim chances. I am panicking too. I am not trying to dishearten you but admissions are very difficult in foundation stages, keep calling them and visiting the schools u have applied.

My maid is really good, she has been with us for 3 yrs. I dont think she was waiting for an opportunity to get things done. She had an accident 12 years back wherein she lost 3 front teeth so now she has artificial permanent dentures. They are giving a problem so I would prefer getting it checked. If i can get a temp solution until the end of the year it is well and good, we will get her treatment done back home. AnonDubai - Can u guide me which clinic in Karama. Iranian hospital looks hopeful and reasonable on teh phone, will check out this evening if it is for real. edited by Shivi on 25/03/2013

Hi CM, my DD is waitlisted for FS1, no assessments done yet as they give priority to siblings which they did tell me when I was registering with them. They do rollover the application to FS2 so I am hoping sometime in Oct the assessments will be done for next year. They are in an expansion mode so hoping we can get through. I have had no problems to get through the registrar on the phone and she is a very polite lady I must say. Overall I really liked the school and have heard only positive things about the school. Frankly I am not looking for a fancy school which alot of schools are, for me the school has to be warm, friendly and good balance of academics and extra curriclar which I came across in Horizon. Believe 2012 is spot on for fees.

If it is not much of a drive, u should get it done physically. Few Shengen Embassies can be very difficult, one of them being Greek in Abudhabi.

I have started doing crossfit start of this year and it has helped me immensely. Crossfit pushes u to a different level altogether. Have been working out doing Body Attack/Pump/Sculpt over a year and reached a plateau after loosing 15kgs. Crossfit did break my plateau and increased my endurance. U must def try a class and see how it goes. I go to Corefit in Dubai Marina.

Hi, my DD 2.7yrs goes to JAVN in JBR and we are very happy. It is an old nursery, very structured and they know what they are doing. British Orchard is good too but fees seems to high for a nursery as compared to others. Mosaic is pretty much new, cant comment

1. Kid's Island - When i was looking for my DD last year, I was very impressed by them, very structured nursery and I really liked them. My DD was in Kensington and we were not happy with it, she didnt hv a teacher for 2mths and they kept getting temp staff and we being vegan, she was given meat for 2 days despite of stating it cleary on the forms. After 3 mths in Kensington i realised pick up was a task for my maid as i use to drop her every morning which was not a hassle. 2. Homegrown - cant help sorry 3. Toddler town - Have friends kids going there and they are very happy. This was my first choice but couldn't get in as the waitlist is too long. 4. Mosaic - I am not very sure, did go for their open day but beware it is a new nursery, there would be teething problems. Also for us we wanted an outside play area, i know with the weather here kids can enjoy max 6mths but hey why not make the most of it. Also it is in an apartment so I wasn't too sure if i wanted that feel for my DD. Finally I changed her to Jebel Ali Village Nursery in JBR and I think i have made the best decision. She is very happy, settled from day one v/s Kensington where in every morning she clinged and cried. She has a brilliant teacher and keeps talking about her all day. All in all go by your instincts, what maybe good for u, may not be suitable for me. So despite Kids's Island being really good, i went with Jebel Ali bcoz of the convienience and instinct that they have been there since 1976 and they would know what they are doing. All the best in your search, let me tell u it isnt an easy task to zero down on the nursery. Hope i was of some help.

Just an update, got everything done in 30mins. I didnt have to pay any fine. My registration had expired 29th of last month but insurance was valid until 29th of this month. Got the insurance beforehand, done the usual car test and everything was quick quick.

Been using Braun for 6yrs now, no problem and yet going strong. I am as useless as u, cant figure how people use a seperate brush and dryer. Tried once in a hotel using the hotel dryer and the brush landed in the pot which was not a pretty site.

Hi there, my DD 2.3yrs started nursery in Sept this year, First 2 days were fine than she started refusing to go to school. She threw up every morning just outside the school. We were told by the nursery to stay for first few days only. She had severe seperation anxiety, i could see behavioural changes in her after school. She clinged on to me. Would bathe, eat and sleep with me. She is very close to our maid and touchwood we have a really caring maid but still would refuse to do things with her. It has been exactly 1 month today, she has now settled in and actually waved and kissed me goodbye saying mumma u go to office. To cut short every child is different, just give them time and u will do a major mistake by pulling her out coz they will feel by crying they will get their way out. All the best!!

Registered my DD for FS1 2 weeks back, apparently 40 kids on waitlist and chances of getting in is slim. Class size is small and they hv only 1 class. Priority given to siblings. Saw varied nationalities which was really nice. I have heard only positive things about the school.

Hi Was looking for my DD for nursery this year, frankly wasnt impressed with Chubby Cheeks, felt more like a factory. British Orchard was good, one of the oldest nurseries around, found it tick expensive about 42k for nursery with transport and this does not incl food. Also i found the classrooms on a smaller side. Heard good things about Jebel ali village nursery but havnt gone personally. No idea with Little learners. I finally enrolled my DD in Kensington Nursery in Umm Suquiem. We loved the place as they have good size rooms, nice outdoor area. They also have few pet animals which i think my DD would love. Food is included in the fess. My problem was i need transport and options do get limited as both of us are working. Hope this helps.

Hi lou, below is an email i got directly from the MD of the nursery There are 3 terms in an academic year running from September to June. The fees for a standard nursery term(8:30 am-1pm, 5 days per week) will be in the range of AED 9600 for Toddler, Nursery and Foundation Classes, and AED 11600 for Baby class(6 months to walking). Morning club(7:30am-8:30am) costs AED 1350 per term. Afternoon club costs AED 1650 for 1pm-3pm, or AED 3000 for 1pm-5pm. There is a discounted rate for full day from 8:30am-5:30pm, which costs AED 13300 per term. There is also a one-time registration fee of AED 1000, and an annual supplementary fee of around AED 2000 which needs to be paid in advance for 1 year, which is inclusive of Medical Fees and Toddler Town Pack (1 uniform set, plastic apron, cap and other accessories). Morning club and afternoon daycare is optional with additional fees. There is also an option for children in Baby, Toddler and Nursery classes to attend 2 or 3 days per week. We will extend an invitation and warm welcome for you to come and see our nursery once it is ready in approximately 2 weeks, and look forward to showing you our fabulous new facility. For your information, we have a special promotional offer of 20% off the term fees for April-June for the first 25 children who register before 31st March. In the meantime, please let me know if you would like any further or specific information, and I’d be more than happy to answer your questions. Ziham Moopen Managing Director
