Thanks to all ladies who contributed positively to this post, incl. giving advice on how to select tyres, I highly appreciate it - me being definitely a Stepford Wife when it comes to tyres :) I'm an expert only at burning them ;-) Special thank-you to Goku and Fairy Dust for providing the info I needed on Michelin. Over and out from me.

Hello ladies, anyone knows where I can get some large-sized artwork nicely framed at a reasonable price? They are of Islamic calligraphy, so a gallery/ art shop that would handle them with the proper etiquette would be preferable. Thanks! edited by Shontae on 27/11/2013

Many thanks Meagle and Mssassy, this helps too. We also need to give books away - any suggestion? If they are low leve English books for kids, perhaps some of the poorer schools, eg Pakistani Islamic school! would appreciate the donation. I know they struggle to maintain the schools as so many of the students come from very low income families here. Their teaching medium is English and their reading materials for the younger students is very limited. Tks for the info Mrsb, unfortunately no such books as you describe (children's age). They are pscyhology books in French, business and other non-fiction in English and French, and thrillers etc. books in English and French.

Thanks much Alemania, and for the packing info too, most helpful! Meagle, we're in the new part of Dubai, but could organise to deliver the clothes elsewhere. They have the Red Crescent bags in Max in Ibn Battuta as well. I saw them today. edited by Alismum on 26/10/2013 Thanks for the feedback!

I'd recommend German Dr. Andrea Farhat, from Western Medical Centre. Not near DIFC but well worth the drive to Al Wasl Rd.

Any one of you ladies has Red Crescent's new numbers by any chance? The Dubai ones listed on their website have been changed and their A.Dhabi office isn't answering. I'd like to check what items they take (not sure about heels..).

Sorry ladies for very late reply on this - I was not able to access the post when I tried, then I stopped trying. Thanks much Bintyibbs, Marroosh, Bintnizam and Arch for the responses, I have since found what I was looking for. Naiyyar, tariqahs are sufi orders/ schools. Dhikrullah is remembrance of God. Dhikrullah sessions are gatherings where group remembrance of God is done (through recitation of praises to God), with the aim of cleansing and purifying the heart and drawing closer to God. Hope this overview helps.

Confirmed that the one at Meadows repeats the sermon in English after the prayer. Before prayer, sermon is in Arabic.

Thanks Marroosh & Belinda! I was quite distressed to read the initial news that visas can only be applied from home country (to say there is a queue there would be an understatement!) but I take heart to hear your friend organised visas for expats too, Belinda. I'll drop him a line, thanks! :)

Hi Ladies, I am considering to switch to men cleaners instead of the regular weekly maids,I was referred to an agency but they dont service my area (marina) Can you recommend a cleaning agency that send men? I was told that they usually send 2 guys/ 2 hrs and they would leave your place spotless ! Thanx I came across a flyer once but only recorded their phone number, forgot the company name, but passed on the contact to a friend who uses their cleaning services and is happy with them (just make sure you insist on the number of cleaners you want, sometimes they send more than 2 and it can feel overwhelming). Just to check first - is it allowed to post the mobile number on this forum?

Meadows mosque repeats the sermon in English after the prayer has finished. Sermon before prayer is in Arabic

Many thanks Ladies! I have not been able to reach Awqaf yet to find out about the mosque on Jumeirah Beach Rd. If anyone gets lucky, please share the info. Another query - does anyone know pls if the mosque at Meadows does Tarawih prayers in full (by that I mean the whole cyce with full Quran recitation)? Every masjid in Dubai will be doing taraweeh prayers:) Where abouts do you live? They started already yesterday by the way. :) I'm at Dubai Marina - Glad to hear it is a full Tarawih at Meadows (Tarawih was not done in full where I was yesterday), many thanks Marroosh :) I think most masaajid to 8 raka'at and the Witr. JBR seems to have a proper masjid with taraweeh as well now. Oh ok, thanks for letting me know - I was expecting 20 rakahs with full Quran recitation and got confused when the Imam wrapped up after 8 rakahs :) Indeed, there is a small mosque at Plaza level, Murjan Tower at JBR and another one at Marina Walk. They do finish the whole Quran, but what I think you mean is that they complete 1 juz every day. Here they include the Qiyam prayers I think. There are masaajid though that do 22 but I have no idea where. Thanks Marroosh for your kind input :) Ramadaan Kareem :)

Thanks Emlsnre! Ladies, I'm unable to find where it says that the landlord has to give 60 or 90 days notice to the tenant if he wants to change the contract clauses. This piece of info would be crucial in our discussions with the landlord, appreciate if someone could indicate, if possible, where it is specifically mentioned in official links. For info, our contract does not say anything like that. Thanks!

Sure glad to be reading all the reassurance about automatic contract renewal - I'm in a similar boat at the mo and landlord wants to up rent and claims he wants to move in as a second alternative - it's less than 90 days before our lease expiry. Does anyone have the link to the RERA website pls?

Hi Div The way I read the clauses in your contract, the contract is renewable subject to your landlord's agreement to renew the lease. Sake of good relations, if you plan to renew the contract, I would let the landlord know as soon as you can. Do bear in mind though that rents seem to be going up again generally and the landlord can decide to increase the rent - but can only do so up to a point for an existing tenant. You could also wait till a couple of weeks prior to lease expiry, but if the landlord decides to up the price then, you may be in for a bad surprise without much time left to negotiate/ look for another place. Do note that I may be wrong - I'm not an expert, just sharing my views.

Hi Kristina You mention about not making much of a mess in point 4. Why not opt for a part-time maid then instead of a live-in one? That's what I do and it works brill. If you can arrange for someone to be home while she is cleaning up (week-ends maybe), you won't have to worry about keys, jewellery etc. Hum.. I guess this won't help much if you've signed up a live-in maid already! I'll let the ladies with live-in maids advise w.r.t your queries. I'd just say check on her references if available. (I don't sign in much here, and may not notice if you respond back on this note).

Ladies, revamping an old thread as I've just now (!!) noticed that further info was shared by Linkedin Dxb Corporate Lawyers Group re: company formation thru free zones. Looks like the physical office requirement does not apply for offshore and some free zone companies. Just thought I'd share despite this being a bit old - may be useful to those who were thinking of setting up shop for themselves. Thanks to all of you who came up with helpful suggestions and those who volunteered cheeky options too - the latter gave me a much needed laugh :) Funny too about the ones who thought they could judge from one post that I was not being adult just because I comtemplated Security as one option among three... Security is supposedly there to serve the purpose of maintaining order, right..? And what's the use of a forum if you can't bounce stuff off each other for ideas...? You were right IAMVP, the nice ol' lil' lady knew very well what she was doing. When I went over for a word y'day, I didn't even have time to open my mouth that she gushed, 'it's the music eh dear? It's too loud? I'll bring it down". Ha! Btw, she was already aware I was working at home these days - I had the privilege of lenghty introductions the day she moved in.. But lo and behold, the music level is up again today.. Ran into a neighbour earlier who said she's had a word with her too y'day. Well, if she doesn't relent by next week, I'll call Security. Or I may borrow your dog Teabag ;-) I believe the obscenely high rent I pay for this apartment entitles me to quiet surroundings. If going to Security next makes me come across as immature or unneighbourly to some perfect strangers on ExpatWoman, I can live with that... Over and out at my end.

Hi ladies, I'm in a bit of a spot.. I have a new neighbour, a friendly old lady, who's moved in next doors a couple of days ago. She has a peculiar habit... She opens the door of her apartment and plays music out loud while she goes about her cooking or whatever! It's most disruptive, I can hear the music with my bedroom door closed! As I work quite a bit from home at the moment, this is most annyoying and distracting. Any suggestions how to put a stop to this? I don't wish to confront her directly over this, but I shy away from approaching reception or security with a formal complaint. She seems lonely and it may just be her way to provoke neighbours into coming over for a chat!! I've thought about speaking with other neighbours to see how they feel about it, and perhaps talk to her as a group. Some of my neighbours are stay-at-home moms, I'm pretty sure they must be fuming over this! What do you think? Ideas please!

Good point about the phone hiccup Monkey Face. As to not buying from a salon one has never heard of, well, that's the whole point of this post - to find out about the salon from people who may have used it before making a purchase decision... :) You are right Amelia, they open at 10 a.m. only. I was able to get through since. Not impressed with the sullen attitude of the receptionist I have to say, does not bode well for customer service! I'm skipping this one. Thanks for your time ladies, post closed.

Thank you all ladies for contributing your valued feedback, much appreciate. I have been told something similar to what Madamerose is indicating below by Virtuzone regarding their package. And indeed RAKFZE also leases out flexi-desks. From what I have understood from a consulting office (mind you, I may have misunderstood...), the requirement for an office/ flexi-desk is linked to visa obtention. However, if the law is now making a sine qua non of a physical (and established) office, then this may be a potential issue with virtual packages and the concept of flexi-desk, thanks for the caution note Di@DXB. Your both contribution ladies, as well as Viator's and Vanillacupcakes', certainly shows the need to explore options carefully before making the investment - which may range from 30K to 50K from what I'm being told. Do we know whether the article by newzglobe (thanks for the link btw) was carried by Gulfnews? I seem to have missed it if so, and I assume that this type of news would be reported by all the leading papers and business mags. Anyone please?
