Hi! I am moving to Dubai from London for work on the 29th September. Initally I planned on finding my own accommodation but I subsequently haven't had enough time to do this. So I have opted to take "staff accommodation" which I have just found out will be located in International City. Now I have been to Dubai once before but stayed Downtown and ventured to the Marina etc. I have never heard of IC... I have since Googled and am slightly nervous to say the least! I understand it's not going to be luxury but what's it really like? I intend on being at work/out with friends alot but obviously want a nice, safe home. Work will provide transport to and from which is located in DIFC, how far away is IC? Thanks! Welcome and all the best on your new adventure! International City is not bad at all, we are a little spoilt here in Dubai, but honestly there are some worse areas and apartments in London (and i lived there during UNI) Most of the times people will ignore you, they may look at you, or whatever...doesnt matter. Get here, get settled, and then explore to some where... who knows, you might prefer staying there and save a bit of money, as rents are cheaper... Ps. Just a word of advice, i would be discreet with the company name and position you work for on this forum, as it is widely read, and it may jeopardise things for you.

I'm just wondering- isn't it easier to come to peaceful neighboring countries like Lebanon, turkey, UAE and Saudi etc? Why don't they attempt to come to UAE by boats? In Lebanon and Turkey they live in horrible crowded refugee camps without basic sanitation, UAE and Saudi won't accept them and in Western Europe they get better accommodation, free food, language courses, unemployment money, free schooling for kids etc. That's the reason they all want to Germany, France, Sweden and UK and don't want to register and stay in Greece, Hungary and other countries, which don't provide such great conditions. Here is the position of the UAE: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-09-03/u-a-e-says-aid-not-shelter-is-way-to-help-syria-refugees Alemania you say Better Accomodation, free food, language courses, unemployment money free schooling for kids etc... I TOO WANT THOSE THINGS!! But i cant jump on a boat and turn up to an EU country. I know that their life is in danger in Syria, but not [i'>everybody[/i'> is in danger. How does one differentiate between a real refugee, and someone just going along for a better life? If you are running due to fear of your life, then that fear should have ended in Turkey, where there are refugee camps set up. Moving to EU via boats (illegal) is simply just trying to get a better life. Then the whole of India/Pakistan/Bangladesh etc will be on boats too right?

if your budget is on the lower side, i would seriously consider spending only on activities that my children really have an aptitude or desire for. Its incredible how many activities that children here take, it is impossible to excel in most of them, simply because they do not have the time to practice or rehearse or excercise the various skills.

Definitely speak to landlord about the situation. If not, and if is a lot of money, then try to get DH to time his resignation with the tenancy contract.

My recommendation is not to invest in Dubai now. There has been 30-40% increase in prices in last 2 years which has gone down by only 5%.Wait for a year or two, as property will surely come down by 40-50% due to excessive supply coming in a year and there are not much of buyers as investors have better options now. Many real estate agents have already filed for bankruptcy due to low number of transactions. Do you really think it will drop 40 - 50% !!!
