May I ask what tricks they used? As a former real estate agent, I know most would work their pants off to try to rent it out. The owner never pays a fee, so I don't know what these agents been doing... May I ask you as a former real estate agent a few questions? If the owner doesn't pay any fee, (thanks for clarifying that), what incentive does the agent have to help a tenant negotiate the rent down? Your fee is based on the rent value, if I am not mistaken. Do you represent the owner or the tenant? An agent wants the highest rent they can get as it gives them more comission. If the agent tries to negotiate the price down, it generally means that the price is set too high for rent.

Sorry, I don't think the salary will be enough to cover school fees and housing for a family of 5. There are also a lot of hidden charges here and it definitely adds up. You would have to double the salary to live comfortable without it being luxury. Where do you plan to rent and send your children to school for 170 k together?

I wouldn't go back to Beauty Within even if they offered me treatment for free, it's one of those places that always have offers on sites like Groupon.

Intresting answers, thar many don't feel at home where they live; that must be quite depressing. Not depressing, just realistic when so many of us could have to be out of here in 30 days if things go pear shaped. I would only feel at home in a place where I know I could stay permanently if I wished. Ok, for a lot of people today, they don't have the option of going somewhere safe if there are problems, by the way I do; but I have lived in various places in my life and I have not always felt at home where I live and those occasions for me hasn't been very good looking back. I do feel at home where I live today, but I know it's not my forever home, but will probably never go back to the place I was born either. And laws changes every day....you just don't know about the future that there will be a place that you can stay permanently without strings attached.

The law is on your side, but doesn't mean you will win. You will have to pay a fair bit for the court case, which will be returned if you win. Do you want to go to court etc to prove your point, if so knock yourself out? There are always exceptions to the rules, like it might be a family member living there or whatever.

They are all quite nice places; where are you going to work? The Dubai traffic isn't that nice, so I would pick a place that avoid traffic the most... Randomly picking one of the location if not considering traffic it would be JLT. The community is nice and lots of shops, restaurants and other services around the community, as well as being close to the Marina, beach and public transport. Edited to add; just saw JLT isn't one of the options LOL

Lulu got lots of eggs and they seemed to be ok priced. Geant for easter decorations and also eggs, but more expensive. Carrefour had a really poor selection of eggs.

Tell them you will report them, as you haven't received the product promised. In the future, be careful paying upfront here in Dubai a lot of places can't be trusted.

I personally wouldn't. What if something happens to your car? I find Oman more male dominated than here, some places you don't see women out on their own at all, I wouldn't feel comfortable.

Intresting read Dally, Happy to hear that you are doing well. I wonder which countries that the vegetables are safe to eat from. I try to buy as much organic as my purse allows, but it's getting too expensive to buy everything organic unfortunately. I heard a woman telling a sales guy in Carrefour that they shouldn't sell vegetables from Jordan, as she lived there before and seen how much pesticides they use, she put me off to buy from Jordan...I wonder how it's from Iran etc.

The offices are generally nice and cool, so regular office wear are fine, and remember to cover knees and sholders. You see people work in inappropriate clothes, but it's really not a good thing, especially if you are having a meeting or something with muslims or other from not so liberate countries.

I've come to this late and there is a lot of good advice here. The only thing I would add is...do something. Anything. I have seen this take hold of people here (and elsewhere) and nothing feeds misery like loneliness...Do ANYTHING that gets you out and moving and active and interacting. I'm not meaning to be harsh...not at all...just think it's the only way. I agree, no one will knock on the door and offer entertaining. Go out exploring, take the metro to different stops each day, travel on the tram and water bus in the Marina. Walk around Souk al Bahar and around the fountain lake in the morning when it's nice and quite. Try an abra over the Creek.

181 views and not ONE message of condolence for all those who were killed in this tragic accident? Such a ridiculous thing to write, for such sensitive and sad incident. Why do I have to write condolence on a thread you started that no one of the affected families will probably read?

It's no guarantee that you ever get over it, not everyone likes living away from home. Try coffee mornings, Facebool groups, meetup groups, move back home or look for a job. It's what you make of your time here that will determine if you have a good time or not. Try not to be reliant on friends for a good time, find things you like to do on your own.

I have read the pprune thread, and one person on there gave a break down of costs, but something about the numbers doesn't add up - $11 AUD for 500g butter? I looked on trolley.ae and even the fancy butter wasn't that expensive. Am I missing something? I bought a packet of butter just today at carrefour (one of the cheaper supermarkets): 500g for AED30 which is exactly $11AUS. Just because it's a cheap supermarket, doesn't mean they dont have expensive or importef brands. I have never paid 30 dhs for 500 g butter in Carrefour, 13 dhs maximum for Almarai butter that they store in the freezer.

Or cook what you are good at from where you are from , normally that's what people expect from their host and it will be more intresting. I don't think a British family that goes and visit an Arab household would like fish and chips for example.

The EK pilots stay because it might not be like in the promotion video, but they are still better off than most places. The most moaning you will get from staff that has been here years, but they are not moving, be careful about what you hear and work out your own numbers.

Change your mindset, what is right and correct where I come from isn't the way most people think and live. You can't assume people have the common sense where you come from, common sense is completely different in different countries. If you are out of your country and not paying tax, no one but yourself will take care of you. I go back home and don't feel at home. Job adverts that asks for certain nationalities, *** and age. Human rights is far behind Europe. Women's right are far away from the Western world. A lot of people don't respect the nature and freely dump rubbish on the beach and desert. People think it's ok to have children hanging out their windows driving and not wearing seat belts.

Would it be compulsory for him to go in school here, if it's not where you are coming from? There are homeschooling programs, but they are not that cheap. I think it's 17,500 dhs a year and than extra for afterschool activities that's probably minimum 2,500 dhs a year.

I liked the airfryer initially, but sold it on Dubizzle. I was the same as you, saw the mukticoooker when shopping for slowcooker and ended up buying it. It gets used for rice, quinoa and soups. I don't like to cook bolognese etc in it, as the meat gets so fine in it. Whole chicken becomes very juicy.

Emirates NBD offers loan for 1 check rent and you can pay in 12 installments. Yes, the less checks are because people are travelling a lot here and risk of leaving the country completely.

All of the hotels mentioned has bars. It's definitely hot in August, but staying a few nights in one of the 5 star resorts is a lovely treat, as they will have a chilled pool and lovely amenities. The Armani Hotel is really nice with most restaurants having fountain views and you have access to At.mosphere bar, the highest bar in the world.

What do you do when people sending you personal messages to congratulate on your new job? As earlier suggested a simple 'Thank you" or' Thanks" goes a long way to tell such connection you appreciate they noticed the new role you took and when they send subsequent unnecessary messages, you ignore and dont reply. That is what I do Thanks, sounds like the best thing to do.

Green Community is not that far away and the villas are generally very nice and the community feels like English countryside. 10 -15 minutes drive away. Living in the Springs or the Meadows would still be good options and yes the landscaping is a lot better than Jumeirah Park.

Why were you not keen on Jumeirah Park itself? The villas are a lot better quality, than most Springs and Meadows villas and you could walk or take the bikes to school. There is an active ladies group in Jumeirah Park as well, with coffee mornings in the Pavilion. Springs and the Meadows are only 5-10 min drive away, but bear in mind there are schools there too, so can be a bit chaotic in the morning.

Pack her bags when she's out, put them in the boot of the car. When she's back home drive her to the airport, make sure she gets on a flight. Put a ban on her. She has started to feel that you are not happy with her and might very well run away soon and that can be a real headache.

If you really would like to help her; contact MOL and report the company, first tell her that's what you are going to do, if she's telling porkies she will probably confess at that point. There are many companies not treating staff the way the should over here and with holding salaries.

Definitely take her to the Iranian hospital, as already suggested, really reasonable cost. Hasn't she been having a health injurance, as it sounds like her health issues been building up? The medical care where she live in Sri Lanka might be limited as well...
