You've had some fabulous advice already but I just wanted to weigh in too. If it was my family in your situation, I would definitely got to the UK. Even if family aren't around the corner, it sounds as if they are much nearer and would be able to come over if needed. I think it's also an important point that you say the UK move would be best for your DH career wise. The rules and regulations of the NHS are complicated so your best bet would be to ring them and explain your circumstances and see what they say. Best of luck with your decision - it will all work out in the end so try not to get too anxious.

I left the UAE in the summer on a passport with 3 months remaining on it. I checked with Immigration before going to the airport and was told that I was fine to leave but would need a new passport to come back in. The immigration official who stamped my passport also told me that I only had a few months left and to get a new one but to be sure to bring both back as my residence visa was in the 'old' one.

I always went for a space next to the curb (or where the trolley lanes are) at MOE when DD was little. The spaces there are small and people do park so selfishly.

For major trauma, Rashid Hospital is the place to go. Unfortunately, I have experience of a situation needing police involvement and had to have a report from Rashid. I can't fault their handling of the situation and I waited less than 10 mins to be seen by a doctor. One of my DC needed surgery a few years ago and after visiting three different hospitals to seek treatment, the American were most 'on the ball' and the surgeon did a beautiful job. I would now head immediately to American/City Hospital if the patient was in a position to get into the car.

We went to a birthday party there recently and I was very impressed by the set-up. I would say you need quite a few extra adults to go in with the children, especially if they are just 3.

18 years on and September is always the hardest month of the year. Never mind only a week to go until October :) As someone else has already said accept every invite you get (especially in the early days), make the effort to get in touch with people who you meet at socially/at school etc. It's not easy to make friends here but well worth the effort. The hardest part for me is when good friends move on and you have to start all over again.

Hi simone, i spoke to the registrar at the schools i was interested in but they told me noway. i tried to reason with them but they refused. they told me to apply for the following year. how did u get the exemption? because i even called the KHDA and they told me they cant help me. These r the list of school i tried with: DBS EC JAPS Wellington The school arranged it but I had spoken to the KHDA previously about it. My DD is at one of the schools you listed. She started there last year in Reception; the only thing I can think is that they have tightened up the rules.

Hello, The cut off day at British schools is August 31st. My sons bday is 1st of september, so because of this one day he will have to wait an extra year to be admitted into any british school. it brakes my heart because all of his friends will start school a year before him. On the other hand you can have a look at IB curriculum schools or american ones, they have a cut off date mid december i believe, so that would work fine for u. There are exemptions, Maplemimi, my DD missed the cut off by one day with 1st September birthday but we managed to get her into school to start with all her friends.

Best bet would be to check with your school. When my DS first at school, my DD was a baby and went wherever I went. I took her to school meetings etc with no problems. There were other parents in the same situation, the only stipulation was that you took the child out if they were crying or making lots of noise.

Most DVD players are multi-region even if not set up that way straight from the box. We had a Phillips one that wouldn't play certain DVDs. A quick call to their call centre and a strange combination of button-pressing on the remote = problem solved.

Morning, We have a lovely little book called 'My Arabic Alphabet Book' which has the Arabic letters and a transliteration of the Arabic pronunciation underneath. Published by Darussalam Publishers & Distributors www.dar-us-salam.com. I'm fairly sure that Magrudys stock them.

I don't think that the majority of schools have issued their dates yet. Best bet is to look at the schools' websites and contact the PTA.

http://www.ukthermomix.com/index.shtml My friend has this and swears by it not cheap:-) I enjoyed a lovely lunch prepared entirely in one of these and was very impressed. There were 2 women acting as the agents here, not sure if there are still here though. The only thing that put me off was the price, I couldn't justify it at the time.

I think this is an 'old' law that is now being enforced. Edited: to say it's always been enforced, but perhaps they are looking more carefully at the appropriate dates now. edited by Simone N on 13/09/2011

My Hubby went to Al Barsha to renew, and they said he had to do the finger printing again and his photo's. Im not sure if they are doing the ID process on renewing the visa, Hubby's company PRO is excellent and they never mentioned about renewing ID. I looked at the website last week and the page hadn't been updated since last October, how are we suppose to keep upto date with Government charges. Oh no, so we have to go through the whole process again? Our company arranged everything and we had the VIP service but it still took the whole morning with travelling etc.

Gosh this must have been the rescue crew that passed me twice and eventually stopped at Springs 14 (? I think one down at the bottom opposite Spinneys etc) to ask for directions. Two big fire engines as well.

My goodness, it sounds like a right mess. I know it's not the end of the world but I really feel for the littlies going to school for the first time. The older children will be able to understand to some degree (or may not care either way).

Forgot to mention the blue book bag too and make sure it is labelled on the outside. Don't think they came back with anything on day 1 but it's good to get into the routine of what your child will need each day. Also don't worry about the school swimming costume/trunks as these are only compulsory from Year 3. Reception children swim in the summer term and can wear their own swimmers.
