It is apparently an issue with the Ministry of Education upgrading to an online Registration System. It seems that every student in Dubai needs to be uploaded onto the online system or they will not be able to attend school. Perhaps the OP should try the MoE call centre on 80051115 and see what they say about her particular circumstances, as she surely can't be the only one in this position?

Hi, My husband has provided his company's pro a copy of the tenancy agreement and a copy of a stamped letter from Nakheel stating that the property is definately in the landlords name etc. We also would have thought these docs would be sufficient but apparently not. I have emailed the school to keep them in the picture and intend to call them as soon as someone is available this morning. We really can't believe that tenants applying for residendancy would have access to a properties title deeds. Just praying the school will be sympathetic and give us some breathing space. Thanks for the link busybee, the school is giving us abit of a hard time on this. I intend to call them this morning and get a letter in place by my DH's company to cover us. Really appreciate your feedback on this one I find it a bit odd the school is giving you a hard time, all schools are surely used to this at the beginning of the academic year. Just give them a copy of your daughter's visit/tourist visa, which is presumably still valid/has been extended, plus the letter saying the residence visa is in process and you'll be fine. I've just thought, though, we were told at the end of last term by our school that the Ministry had new online registration rules in place and maybe this is what is worrying your school, but there's still nothing to be done, you haven't got a residence visa and you can't magic one out of thin air :)

Don't worry about your daughter's school place, schools here are used to this kind of thing with people new to Dubai. As busybee says below, just get a letter from your husband's company stating that the residence visa is in process and it will go on your child's file. Standard practice. We arrived on September 12th and didn't get our residence visas till the end of November and that was working very quickly. The school just sent out reminders until we were able to furnish a copy.

Apart from the Schengen visa aspect, Geneva airport is in both Switzerland and France, so ask your travel agent to get you a flight into the French part, then all will be well..

As long as it's well chilled, and the oven at the right temperature when you put it in, it'll be fine! Putting milk or beaten egg glaze on top before popping it in the oven gives it a lovely colour, as well. What time's supper, then? See you later ;) You;re one hungry girl lately........ ;) Free food that I haven't had to cook myself? Of course I am :)

It should be 6 gr salt per 500 gr sugar. But it must be Fleur de sel, in order to get the crunch!!! Good luck :) Where do you find Fleur de sel around here? It's been on my list for 3 weeks!!!! Spinneys or Waitrose? Failing them, Galeries Lafayette. Maybe Carrefour, Geant or Lakeland?

Oh god, thank god he is ok. Essential oils indeed are very dangerous and cause a lot ot damage! I must say that I was planning to go and check out the SG Hospital as we live close by as well. I have had a little story myself recently with healthcare in Dubai. And on the long run this will make me very nervous, and we are planning to leave the UAE sooner rather than later.[b'> I have the impression that when you enter a hospital, even if it is ER you could die right then and there, because they need all the paper work done FIRST - then they look at your problem.[/b'> Fair enough if you have a checkup but in an emergency i think it's just wrong. Thanks for your post and all the best to your husband! I am under what may be the mistaken impression that this is common practice in the USA?

OK, great. Will try it then. =) By the way, do they serve pizza? I don't see it on the menu I downloaded. Yes, they do serve pizza. To be honest, I thought their pasta dishes were mediocre (and definitely overpriced), but the pizza was good. I don't go for pasta, tend to eat their fish dishes, which are delicious and so Mediterranean :)

It's my favourite discovery of this year, love going there for late lunch on Saturday. Agree about portion size and cost, but the food is excellent, particularly enjoy the specials of the day and absolutely love the Mediterranean feel of the food, the only place in Dubai I've felt as if I was back in Europe :)

Dear Samk96, i would really like to be in the same situation as yours. How did you hire your help to come in from 07:30am to 09:00pm - did you use an agency or put up an advertisement. Your feedback and guidance would be much appreicated. Thank you. Well I advertised here on expat woman and then upon interview explained all that was required.she was already a house maid for 2 yrs in a similar family setup although she was live in there. We explained that she will not be leaving before dinner as that is when I need her to work so that I can have some family time with hubby.the pay largely depends on what your helper was working at before u hired.mine was hired for 1200 n later escalated to 1500 and I offered 1700 so she was happy.n I'm sure she saves out of travel n accommodation costs aswell. If any medical procedures come by I pay her those.n [b'>she is on my sponsorship so this arangment is completely legal.[/b'> I would love to employ a live-out maid on my sponsorship but I have always understood from here that maids have to live under their sponsor's roof, unless they are sponsored by an agency, in which case your arrangement wouldn't be nearly so cheap.

Ring up HSBC customer services to ask what's going on - I'm sure it's a scam, they'll want to be alerted. Every time I've messed up logging in with them, it's a huge palaver to get a new password, but no emails are involved, it happens when I'm trying to log in and I get told to ring the customer services number to proceed.

We love the school. I'm glad the previous principal left, previous ones were much better and am looking forward to the new one, educationally the school is excellent, but you could fight forever with the management. I understood the previous Principal, Mrs Mel Curtis, had been there as Principal since Day 1? Have I got the wrong end of the stick?

We've had exactly the same trouble with HP printer/scanners, which we repeatedly bought because they were on special offer (it took us a long time till the penny dropped..). We now have an Epson wireless printer/scanner/fax which is just amazing. It works. Will get you exact details if you want.

Not having had recent experience of private schools in the UK, I would imagine they are mostly much better (and twice or thrice as expensive as) than private schools here, which are then again far better than state schools in the UK, which are dirt cheap comparatively. You pay for what you get. Or, you get what you pay for. Prep schools here charge almost as much (maybe 5 or 10% lower) as prep schools in the UK. Good grief, you're right, I've never looked at the cost in GBP before, as we work in Swiss Francs and our fees for Year 13 here turn out at two-thirds of the price at the equivalent IB school in Geneva.

Lovely sbc, how many days did you do? Do you think it is worth planning which rides we want to do in which order ahead of time? It will be schooltime in France so don't know how busy it will be. Bit tricky because of age gaps and interests so different - was thinking maybe DH should go off in one direction and me with DDs in another and meet up for lunch? What do you think. Did you have to book for lunch or dinner? I think these kinds of experiences are best shared together. Many of the activities and rides are suitable for most ages, maybe a little compromise will be necessary, but I don't think it's necessary to split up. Whilst I agree it's fun to do these things as a family group, with the best will in the world, the older children are not going to want to miss out on some of the rides they could go on without a babe (almost) in arms with them..

To avoid spending most of your time queuing, just make sure to get the FastPass tickets at the start of the day for the more popular rides - Peter Pan and Thunder Mountain Railway are the two which spring to mind immediately, but I'm sure there are quite a few more. I think by Disney Park, you must mean the Walt Disney Studios Park, which we didn't find as much fun as the main park, although they have lots of good things for the children to do and great parades as well and the Aerosmith ride is a big attraction. The tour of the backlot on a train is excellent. The free shows in both parks are fantastic for all the family, but very popular and you need to get there in good time (more queuing!) to get in. There will be some rides your littlest one won't be able to go on and the best place for the littlies is Fantasyland, I think. Other rides depend on the height of the children. Our daughter always enjoys the scariest rides, so the Space Mountain was her favourite when she got older. When she was smaller, Peter Pan and Indiana Jones were very popular with her. We had breakfast with the Disney characters on our first trip and that was fantastic, tho' our daughter was perhaps too young and was a little scared of them, but she proudly filled an autograph book with many signatures, mostly of Robin Hood and his Merry Men on that day! I've no idea how long to suggest you stay, we've always arrived late at night and been at the park when it opened the next morning and spent the whole day there and then gone on somewhere else, but that's because our tolerance for crowds and queuing is low. We've managed to cram everything in in one day but that's mostly because we've been during low season. I would suggest at least two days. Have a lovely time!

To make caster sugar, you can blitz granulated sugar in a blender till it's finer. To make icing sugar, you can blitz caster sugar in a blender till it's a (sweet) white powder. I think creme fraiche can be substituted in recipes if you can't find sour cream, tho' creme fraiche may be thicker than sour cream. Otherwise, add a teaspoon of lemon juice to a cup of double cream and leave it for 24 hours. (There are more complicated methods, but I do it that way and it works fine.)

What would the agent have gained from this? Sold a house from under your landlord's nose? Were they hoping yours was an absentee landlord who wouldn't realize what was happening before it was too late - since it seems things are really lax with regard to the Title Deeds, it seems it might be possible?

My son has marmite rolls, fruit, a juice drink or smoothie, yoghurt and sometimes some breadsticks, raisins, and a treat on Thursdays. They also have a water bottle to keep with them in the classroom. Also, some schools request no p*rk products in packed lunches.
