Doesn't it seem ludicrous to have to send the forms from here to Germany, it's hardly practical in the case of any emergency situations that should and can easily arise whilst out here. Does anyone know why this is the case? They don't deal with any British passport issues here anymore, crazy considering the amount of British expats here.

My dh just renewed his in London, it took 4 hours! He was passing through though and it was urgent so this was far better than sending it to Germany as we didn't know how long the turn around would take. I think it cost him around 100 gbp. We are going to have to do our new babies passport soon though and need it done urgently, how much does it cost to send all the documents with dhl with their fast track service? edited by Simpsons on 06/05/2011

On Saturday 7th May the Bonnington Hotel which is in JLT is holding its first birthday party in the Garden at McGettigan. There is complimetary food and drinks, make your own cookie/cupcake station, bouncy castle, face painting, magician. It starts at noon and finishes at 5pm. This sounds great, do you have to pay to get in? Where is it advertised?

Our daughter's came from Paris just before we moved here and I wrote about special circumstances (we were moving v shortly) in a covering letter asking them if they could possibly hurry it along - we got it back in a week, paying for DHL each way. Try doing the same. The people in Paris were as helpful as they could possibly be. Not sure if you can contact (phone) Dusseldorf direct about it, think it all has to go through the UK, but I somehow found the Paris Embassy's tel no and was able to talk to them before sending the forms off. Thanks Simpleasabc, I will most definitely do that. I have just tried to ring the British embassy here in Dubai but they no longer deal with any passport enquiries, you have to call a different number or go on the UK in UAE FCO website, so just about to do that now, fingers crossed we will get it all sorted in time!

When i had my little ones passport photos done in the uk the photo requirement was nothing like Coffegal mentioned. They lie the child on the floor and take the pic above them. Thanks, yes that's what I thought or else no baby under 6 months would ever be able to get a passport!

You must send it to Dusseldorf, it takes up to 6 weeks for a first passport, it is written in the application and that's what we were told on the phone. Luckily it arrived after 3 weeks. That's hopeful then, thanks Darsy. How many days did it take you to get the birth certificate first?

cant help you with the turnaround at dusseldorf, but when my baby was born here, we applied for all the english arabic birth certificates etc etc on day 1 and the getting of the passport obviously here in abu dhabi it took 3 weeks, so you need to factor in that now you have to send it away. passports here could take 10 days to be issued so not a lot of difference in the timings when they were issued by the embassy. Busybee, was this recently? So it only took you 3 weeks from start to finish to get your babies passport, but you didn't have to send it to dusseldorf? Anyone else, anyone who has done the process very recently please?

British, UK, I believe it has to be sent to Dusseldorf, I am just wondering how quickly any of you ladies have managed to turn it around recently? Any feedback would be most appreciated, thanks.

Also just realised and we have fully comprehensive insurance and it only pays out for the nt scan if you are over 35 years old. I think most will be the same.

Ok, thanks, good to know, unfortunately my Oman insurance only covers 50% when not on the network :( So upsetting since I work for one of the rich oli companies in Abu Dhabi. edited by imolinar on 27/04/2011 Why do you want to go there specifically? All of the private hospitals in Dubai have someone that can do these tests, why don't you call your insurance and find out which ones are fully covered?

I go to Dr. Carol Lecart, but she is in Health Care City. I have lots and lots of moles, all over, and she was very thorough. At the time, the size of the moles I had to remove were larger than what is normally removed with laser or shaving, which she does herself. She suggested I need to have them surgically removed by a plastic surgeon. I did that (local anaesthesia, about 4 stitches per mole). My next visit (annual check-up) is in a couple of weeks. Really, if you have many moles and/or moles that look dodgy (e.g. size, irregular shape, colour, etc.), you need to have them checked annually, preferrably by same doctor (or take a copy of their chart and measurements) so that the doctor can measure changes, if any, from your last visit. HTH Morning cat, did she recommend a plastic surgeon to use?

Co Co Loco , was it Dr Dawn who used to be at American Hospital? She told me she was going to go through my existing scar and ended up doing an additional scar just above the old one.

vixster, i am slightly confused at what you had done by dr tahir? In your previous post said breast suregery, did he also do something to your stomach? I really hope you can can get it fixed, my sis had keloid scarring after her first c section and then the 2nd one was totally fixed and now her scar is invisible, this was in uk on nhs so pure pot luck. You could try dr khan though, he always gets great reviews on here. Good luck.

sorry just saw the note - my reduction scars are tolerable - although not perfect by any stretch - my tum is shocking! I just had to have a c-section and everyone who saw me was horrified - I have be told by my obgyn to sue!!!!!!! I did go back and he said I would have to pay for the operating theatre costs and came up with 14000dhs which is the price of a nose job!!! Size for the boobs was discussed prior - I am just very dubious of his skill and ability - but I did do my research so quite upset about the whole thing - mentally scarred as well I guess. The thing is it is such a big, expensive op that you really need to plan for time off - I had no further time available to fix it as well as no money!!!! Philly - I would be interested to know what your daughter did regarding her scars and any advice really, as I just gave up! :( edited by vixster on 13/04/2011 So sorry to hear about your scars, who did your c section, this is very worrying?

Thanks JShepherd and granola! That's the vibe I'm getting about Medcare these days too. I was there the other day and was sent from one desk to another because noone listened to my question - they just heard one word and assumed I was asking about one thing or another. Thanks a million! Who is your dr DM?

yes, dh already has a uae residency visa pomegranate, does this mean he will be fine? No because he has to have 6 months validity on his British passport to enter most countries, including the UAE, regardless of RV status. Ok, thanks SW that's what I wasn't sure about.

After reading these lovely comments I am starting to have thoughts of changing my doctor... I do not want to mention the name of the hospital but this is my first pregnancy (high-risk) and every time I have an appt with my doctor he seems irritated by mine and my hubby's questions and he always seems in a hurry to get on with the ultrasound and see us out of the door. In my last visit he said I am thinking too much about the pregnancy! Now he has scheduled my c-section for a day when he is not even in the country, so it will be a different doctor performing it! It seems to me that he sees his patients' pregnancies like a business transaction rather than something as beautiful and exciting as it is for us, parents. Does anyone know how easy it is to change doctors this late in pregnancy (now on my 32nd week)? And how easy is it to get an appt with Dr Elsa as a new patient? Hi TB, is there any chance I could e mail you to find out if this is the same dr as I have just booked an apt with? My e mail has my name on so don't really want to put it on here, or would you be able to give a hint? I am already stressing about which dr to choose! Thanks!

Having a serious panic attack now....24 weeks pregnant and still haven't selected a doctor. Went to Medcare the other day and was quite put off by the one hour wait and the awful smells in the waiting room and the receptionists constantly arguing with each other... Have now decided on the American Hospital but no idea of which doctor to go to....need some recommendations please. See for my thread on the amazing birth I had with Dr. Elsa at City Hospital 5 weeks back. http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=138041 No stitches, hands and knees delivery, amazing doctor :) Good luck! Thanks shaf but this will be my 3rd c section so looking for the very best ob/gyn who will deliver at American Hospital! A bit stressed and nervous at this point!

I had a c- section at American Hospital last Monday and I can't recommend them enough the delivery team were excellent they made a very scary emergency situation very comfortable for me, and my husband was with me throughout all the staff even took photographs. Also for the record this size predicting thing is BS I was told having huge baby , they said 9-10lb at the scan , I was quite surprised when my tiny bundle was handed to me, he was 6lb 8 oz. Also the cost is 22 , OOO dhs for the c- section with 4 nights in hospital. Good luck with the delivery Hi Dollymud, which dr did you use to do your c section at AH? Would you recommend? Thanks!

Hi NadiaA....I think the American hospital is really good. I moved out here a month ago and I'm now 31 weeks pregnant with baby no1. I saw Dr Brathwaite for my first appointment two weeks ago and just had one again today and I find her very approachable and professional. Dr George does my ultrasounds and he is such a lovely man...very gentle and informative. I popped over to the labour wards on the off chance that I could look around and they were very helpful. The rooms looked very clean and spacious and all the staff were very helpful! I live in the Lakes and don't find it too much of a hassle getting over and back. Labour in rush hour traffic may be a different story. Good luck! Hi freckle, are you having a natural birth or c section? I'm looking to change to AH and just wondering which dr for my 3rd c section, does dr george deliver too? Is there any specific reason you have chosen dr braithwaite over dr george? Thanks! edited by Simpsons on 27/03/2011
