Hi, I used to work in Bur Dubai but because I wanted to live in the Marina I commuted 1 hour every day one way only. It was totally worth it and not that bad as I just got used to it. I read on the Metro, which I found very rewarding as I don't ever get to read when at home, etc...The rush can be a bit frustrating on the train platforms but once again, you just get used to it. I used to listen to music as well on my phone, or meditative podcasts, etc...I would rather commute more and live in the area I really like then make do with a less desirable neighbourhood just so that I could walk to work. Just my preference. ;)

When we came here we found the place ourselves by asking the company to help us with apartments. My recommendation would be to rent first, see if you like the place, the area, the weather (summer is unbearable but you can get through it by being indoors mostly), etc...then commit to buying. Prices vary greatly depending on a flat or villa, plus the area. For example JLT is much cheaper than the Marina. Lakes is more expensive than the Springs, etc... Allianz Orient are good with preexisting conditions but the premium does not come cheap if you are looking for an insurance card you can use at a lot of clinics/hospitals. You can get a basic medical cover too that allows you to use for example in one hospital in Dubai only....a friend has this, not the best, costs a fortune for her to visit consultants, etc...But since being here I have found Allianz the most reliable and good (had Alico before), mind you, the company foots this bill.

Try calling Goettling downtown, they primarily do kitchens/lights/bathrooms etc of German origin but are well versed in various technology related matters too in Dubai, they might be able to recommend you a trustworthy company.

I second the view on getting the AC cleaned (filter+coil), get them to check the drainage pipe and tray for blockages and mould, etc...also get the AC ducts cleaned. These helped us hugely as well! We get our AC cleaned twice a year plus bought dehumidifier machines with HEPA filters for every room, made an enormous difference to how we feel indoors!

hahaha skyfall I would love it for one of my guy friends to find a lovely girl who does not mind working ( holding her own) because lets face it The World Is Expensive. I actually always pray he finds a good down to earth girl because he is so good and would make a perfect husband. BUT where to find her is the question..... he would not agree to going on a singles web site. Any ideas? he would like a nice girl, cute hmm I am always on the look out He should take up sports where he can meet the opposite ***, like the DragonBoat in the marina, or the 5km runs, triathlons or try going to the food festivals, adventure parks, etc...It is not easy to meet someone when you don't want to spend so much on it though it is possible I am sure. I tell my friends that it requires a lot of effort here, a ton of networking, etc... I wonder what the singles ratio is when it comes to gender?

For Sephora best is to contact their customer service team, they will be able to advise you on shipments to the UAE. We have used a lot of websites in the past for shop and ship, it depends on what you want to buy. If you are asking about the actual website where you can register for shop and ship we just use aramex. You can try Borderlinx too! Free to register, they do not ship to PO boxes.

Dubai Media and Internet City only offer media related licenses. Dubai Knowledge Village/Park and Academic City only offer education/HR/PR related licenses. Dubai Healthcare City only offers a company license, they do not offer a Freelance License. Good luck! It is beyond mindboggling!

Coincidentally I was thinking of trying something else for allergies as well and came across the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy at the Innovative Healing Systems clinic at Dubai Healthcare City. I nearly dropped dead from their prices though. A session costs AED1,200! They offer a package deal as well. It is not Immunotherapy but I have read a lot of good stuff on forums about it being helpful with allergies as it provides more oxygen than available at atmospheric pressure. One thing that cost me nothing and has made a tremendous change as in it helped make my asthma vanish, was to cut all dairy products of all animal sources. Dairy creates mucus which made my asthma so much worse, got prescribed steroids etc, nothing helped solve the problem, only masked the issue at core. But quitting dairy cured me. Honestly. If it happened to someone else I am not sure I would believe it but it happened to me for free. Might be worth a shot. If I accidentally eat dairy now, my throat starts having mucus literally 20mins after consumption, my nose starts running..etc...I do not have an allergy to dairy or lactose intolerance, I was tested. It just simply makes me feel drab and creates breathing issues. Hope it helps.

Skyfall i think its a Dubai problem, my single male friends have the same problem. They make ok money, smell nice, honourable guys but the girls they meet want range rovers and handbags and rolex watches as gifts. They have chosen to stay single rather then to go in to debt to have a woman in Dubai. I am affraid there is not old fashioned simple relationships here unless your in school. We should get them together with my lovely friends who don't want expensive stuff ;) I didn't realise guys have these problems here as my friends all have good jobs themselves and can afford to buy themselves the Range Rovers, bags, etc...

Is it a 'universal' or a Dubai problem? Is there a guy out there that is not only interested in the obvious? My single friends have been complaining for years now, all they want to do is settle down but it seems impossible for them to meet someone with a steady job, who doesn't smell and is genuinely interested in them as human beings. I am curious if others who are single are experiencing the same? :nerd:

Mild sleep apnea is fine to live with (dr said so), when you get to moderate or severe that is when you really have to be concerned and use the machine, etc... We are not worried as my husband is perfectly healthy, exercises regularly, fit as a fiddle with zero blood pressure etc issues. Just snores...and apparently so do I, a tiny little bit

Yes! And my husband stayed there for the night when he was hooked up to everything, they determined he has mild sleep apnea, was advised to loose weight, exercise, eat better. He did all of that, lost 8 kgs, still snores like a locomotive engine  We have tried everything as well, the only thing that works is when he lies on his side but that requires constant waking up, etc...so sleeping apart a few nights a week can restore your own sanity. This is THE ONLY solution for us. Surgery is not an option as it does not guarantee success. The "couple" side of the relationship has only improved from this as now I am well rested, not resentful or angry. You can try going to bed together in the evening and when the snoring is unbearable move to another bed, then when its the morning quickly scoot back to bed with him for 5-10mins. ;) BTW the cost of staying for an overnight observation was insane! Over AED3,000 as the insurance doesn't cover it mostly. Ask them to give you a full quote before committing to it.

I read somewhere that massage supposed to increase blood flow, one of the reasons they don't massage women who have their periods, to avoid the increase of blood secretion. For inducing it try ginger tea, celery and parsley juice or parsley tea (my grandmother's advice, she eats parsley with everything)...

@skyfall, pls where do you buy your cosmetics and household products? I have high estrogen so have to watch the products I use in the home.. I buy almost all of my personal care products from Neal's Yard at Marina Mall or in Dubai Mall. I get the large bottle shampoos and conditioners and they last me so long, not cheap but natural products never are. The key is to make them last by using less I guess. Carrefour also sells Organics shampoo and conditioner (I think from Australia), it's very good and cheaper than Neal's Yard. Household products I get are Ecover mostly (Carrefour/Waitrose/almaya) but I alternate it with home made cleaning products as well. For example I use [i'>white vinegar[/i'> diluted in water to clean the inside of the fridge, does a great job and is kind to food. [i'>Lemon juice[/i'> and vinegar are great natural cleaning detergents, they won't leave a nasty smell either. With Ecover, not cheap but I make it last once again. Google can recommend a ton of natural home made cleaning products that are easy to make with ingredients available in every supermarket. [i'>Bicarbonate soda[/i'> is another example. Harsher items that I have swapped were: a very strong chemical spray to get rid of spiders, they hate peppermint oil so I just diluted that in a spray bottle with water, works a treat! I think it's all about researching what suits your time, budget and health concerns. P.S. My grandmother is still alive, aged 84! Her diet is superb with everything from her garden only or from trusted sources (fish and chicken included). My great grandmother lived to 90, again, only ate home grown food and exercised every single day by climbing a hill. No joke, she climbed a tiny hill [u'>every single day[/u'>, all this while wearing her long skirt! hahaha Good old days! The men on the other hand, passed away much earlier, in their 60's because they refused to adhere to healthier eating habits, they drank and ate way too much sugar. I remember my grandmother arguing with my grandfather about him putting sugar in everything, literally, on top of pasta, in tea, on potatoes, it was ridiculous...he died from complications of diabetes. The other from stomach ulcer caused by alcoholism, internal bleeding eventually. :(

Hi, Having worked at clinics, best bet would be if you really don't want surgery to get those medicines from abroad. Either when you travel or ask someone to get them for you. I had a different surgery with Dr. Jozsa (those on expatwoman long enough know I always recommend him lol) at HealthBay Polyclinic, went super well. Other doctors at that clinic are equally good but I am not sure if they operate as well... Hope you get better! Let us know which route you've taken!

Leave. Now. It is easier to leave if you haven't had the child yet, if you did, then turn to the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children for advice but exercise caution. It is [b'>illegal[/b'> to have a child here out of wedlock, and it is taken very seriously. You could find yourself in a very sticky situation if you stay. Legally, financially, mentally...just not worth the risk. Don't post about it either. I don't mean to scare you but I've heard of two women who had similar situations and both had to leave immediately and never returned to the region.

Organic or clean eating is not a fad, it has been around for donkey's years, it's only that sadly with all the genetically modified foods, use of pesticides etc we have become so accustomed to not using the word and accepting that its only a fancy term to hike prices up. It is basically what my grandparents had in their garden, the fruit and vegetables that weren't treated with chemicals, the free-range chicken that was left to run around as she pleased and ate the corn that was grown on their bigger plot. It's that full circle of life that is no longer, the foods nowadays simply don't give back in terms of their purity and nutrients as well as foods back in the days. Having said this, caution has to be exercised when it comes to labelling, look out for the Soil Association, USDA Organic sign, etc...shoes, well, I am guessing, but surely if you buy toxic sulphur smelling shoes made in China you can only imagine what seeps into your feet through your skin in this heat. Toothpaste fluoride is a no-no, the colouring at the end of each tube will tell you whether it is natural or chemical... Household products such as shampoo, cleaning items etc do contain chemicals that are not exactly kind to the skin, it is upto a person whether they feel the need to eliminate those too or not. I am personally allergic to sodium laureth sulfate that is literally in every cosmetic product that foams, so I buy natural and in bulk and I negotiate a price at the small shop  It doesn't have to cost and arm and a leg to live healthier just like with everything else in Dubai: research research and research where to buy stuff from. We don't buy everything organic, but try to get fruit and veg that smells and looks like fruit and veg as opposed to some rubbery tomatoes that smell and taste of cardboard  Meat we buy free-range or a trusted source.

Cosmetic works if not warranted for medically, dentistry, some maternal cover might not be included etc but in my opinion there is no such thing as a "typical health insurance policy". It all depends on the insurance company, the network level you enter into, the company you or your husband work for in terms of the medical cover you or he negotiate....

There are almost no internship/graduate schemes available in the UAE unless you are a fluent Arab speaker or an Emirati. I know this from first hand experience. Certain roles exist if you have connections and are already here. I would do as sarahlou123 suggested, stay put and gain valuable experience where you are then with that (2-3 years min.) try here...A postgraduate qualification helps on top of years of experience.

I like Robin Sharma when I feel low and his podcasts are also very uplifting. Provided you'll have internet where you are going a podcast is also a nice way to relax...there are tons of people out there with very soothing voices who make sense... A girl called Adriene on youtube is very good with stressbusting yoga stuff (disclaimer here: Im not into yoga, BUT), she is very quirky and kind spirited and I find her tutorials very reassuring, do everything in your own time, just connect with your body and listen to it through breathing. I felt super good after doing her 20mins beginners video. If we are talk about pure escapism, The Husband's Secret is quite a good read...

Agree with both posters above, the seats are usually removed for marketing purposes primarily, to coerce you into spending... other malls in other countries have seating and security is on hand to ask 'unwanted characters' to leave....
