Don't know how old your daughter is, but when I was travelling round the States a few years ago, I did a TrekAmerica tour - they have various routes and durations and have been running for donkey's years (my mom actually did a trip with them when she was 21 too!). I'd really recommend them! :) I did the Southern Sun tour - on my own - and found it safe, friendly, and soooo much fun!
I also travelled around Europe on my own with a Contiki tour, and I know they also do US routes. Can't recommend them highly enough - fantastic routes, great tour guides, totally safe, and I made friends that I'm still in touch with all these years later! :D
Both these companies specialise in catering to young, independent travellers, so all the little details are well taken care of, and everyone's in the same boat, travelling alone or in small groups.
Have to admit I'm well jel of your daughter - she'll have the time of her life! I'm sure she'll find that being let down by that bunch of friends actually turns out to be the best thing that ever happens to her! ;)
This happened to me a few years ago and dermatologists in Denmark were not able to solve my problem. I searched here on Expatwoman and decided to see a recommended dermatologist - Dr. Ali Tukmechy near Deira City Center - during a visit to Dubai. He examined my scalp and suggested a shampoo and some pills that you can buy in any pharmacy here. I think that shampoo saved my hair and scalp and it's no longer dry and itchy. You should really see a dermatologist for a precise diagnosis and correct treatment. The phone number for that clinic is 04 2952121, Al Wahda Building, Office 103, Port Saeed.
Hi Guys! I have a similar problem with a dry, itchy scalp (thankfully not losing my hair though... yet!... touch wood!).
Norne2, do you remember the name of the tablets that were recommended, please?
BTW, I have found using a Blu shower filter quite helpful, and a regime of alternately washing with Selsun Blue, a very moisturising, sulphate free shampoo, then a Mane & Tale Gentle Cleansing Shampoo. I know the OP said Selsun didn't help, but just thought I'd mention.
Good luck - hope your poor head feels better soon! :(
