Thanks for all your replies:) I had heard the local banks were much better than the "western" banks. Do ENBD or Emirates Islamic bank give a second debit and credit card to the spouse? I had heard some banks in Dubai don't, which seems crazy. Smileys - what do you have to do to join the priority banking with ENBD? I think the amount of monthly salary transfers to your account determines whether you are eligible for the priority banking and I am not sure what the min amount is. I think you will have to visit the branch and speak to one of their officers for this. My husband is the primary account holder and they gave me a credit as well as debit card for free but not all second credit cards are free...they do charge you for some of them.

We opened an account with Emirates NBD about 4-5 months back and its been a very good experience so far! If you have priority banking, you get much better services...no waiting in ques when you visit the branch.

Thanks for the advice ladies! Going to take a trip to Satwa this evening and see what I can find. Sorry to sound a bit dim but can anyone tell me what the Dubai Library Distributors is? Its a store that sells stationery and art supplies! I know the name is weird...even I wondered when I first heard about it :)

Satwa market has a few shops (definitely worth a trip if you want to stock up like Daza said). Check out the shops opposite / around the big mosque in the Satwa market! You can also find Dubai Library Distributors there.

Hallmark (in Mall of Emirates or Ibn Battuta) carries ribbons but they are plastic ones (if thats ok)! Or you can check with Dubai library distributors....they should have it! HTH

Thanks for the replies :) i will check all the lodging suggestions....and as for the 6-hr drive vs taking a flight to Masaai, I think I will take a risk and prefer the drive (after reading Laurelm's experience ;)) Did you all plan the vacation and do all the bookings by yourself or did you go through the travel organizers? We usually like to roam by ourselves in our vacations....so we have all the flexibility but this one being a totally different country and different culture, we are not sure if its a good idea! Any suggestions there?

How long was your vacation? Are 10 days too much or perfect to cover everything? edited by smileys on 07/02/2013

I bought one from Karama but it can handle only 500w and most of my appliances were over 1000w so I couldnt use it....I had to finally buy new appliances :( I recently saw a voltage converter at Sharaf DJ but i think even that was for less than 1000w but you might want to check with them....depends on how powerful the appliances are! HTH

Thanks for all the suggestions ladies :) Is Villa Beach similar to Pierchic? He took me to Pierchic last month for my birthday and it was amazing...loved every bit of it. But if they both are similar, I will need some more suggestions :) When you say are they similar what do you mean? food/setting etc? I mean the setting.....we went there just 20 days back!

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I will certainly be extra careful henceforth. I wonder how these people manage to hold such high positions in their professional life when they lack basic ethics and manners! Worst part is they use this very high position for all their wrong-doings :(

Biggest disadvantage is you cant stay for more than 30 / 90 days (depending on visa type)
