I miss lots about home, but not enough to go home! I have to disagree with you about the customer service here though! We have bought lots of big items, furniture, whiteware, etc and it has always been delivered within days, in the uk if you order a sofa set it could take six weeks!

I think this might be an urban myth, but still worth repeating... A woman had a gynae appointment and used a flannel in the bathroom to give herself a uhum, clean before heading off to her appointment, during which the gynae ( a male) commented on it he fact it was nice to see she had made a special effort for the exam. Not understanding the comment she went home and realized her daughter had used the flannel to wash glitter off her face!

Our lo goes to wonder years as well, it is great, as long as you don't work, they tend to close more than other nurseries, which makes it very hard to work! Love the staff and teachers though.

Mark Warner is not doing the kids club at the Hilton anymore. We went to le touessrok last year and had the best holiday of our lives! The kids club is amazing, tree house, kids lunches and dinners, frog hunts (just to look) at night with head flashlights. Kids couldn't get enough and it is gorgeous. Hint, book with air Mauritius, it is code share with EK at half the cost!!

I think their facials are great, I would go to Chi for nails though, although Chi do a great eye collagen thing for 150 dhs in the chair while you are having your nails done, definitely worth it for a big night out, it literally erased wrinkles until the next morning (sadly!)

I have to admit to my fellow thyroid sufferers to doing something utterly stupid! I take 200 mcg of thyroxine every day, have done for years and am always in the normal range. Struggling to lose weight, I mentioned this to my gynae, she sort of flippantly said, well you can always up your dosage of thyroxine. So I did. To 300mcg a day. Felt great for four weeks, lost five kilos and then suddenly developed insomnia, anxiety, heart palpitations and became a little angry! Looked it up on the Internet and realized I could have really done some serious damage to myself, I can't believe how stupid I was to do this! Three weeks later I am back to normal but this is just a word of caution, apparently people do this often to boost weight loss! <em>edited by Snugs on 03/05/2012</em>

Something to consider is that many nurseries close here at the drop of a hat which can make working very difficult! The option we took when I went back to work (and never regretted!) was having a full time maid at home, but using nursery as the full time option. As others have said, it is quality, not quantity and studies have shown (many, many studies published in peer-reviewed journals) that children who attend regular daycare are no less attached to their mother than those who stay at home. A happy mother is a good mother!

Hiya, the netball league has a social division as well and there are usually willing coaches to take new teams on. The option is Duplays, they organize lots of sports and usually play in Jumeirah which is much easier to get to, have a look at both websites and see what suits you best... It might be a good idea to put a team into Duplays and play together and then join the Dubai netball league in sept. Duplays is played indoors and we play outdoors at the sevens. Hope you manage to get a team together!

I was sitting next to a woman on an EK flight in business class (dh's company buy the tickets, not that I am trying to qualify this of course).. Anyway, she spent the entire time using her bare feet to change the channels, stretching out her toes to press the right button on the Telly! I didn't say anything, but tutted quite a lot and she got the message!

Dc have you checked that you actually need a prescription, many meds, normally only available by prescription in our home countries, can be bought OTC. My son takes ADHD meds and I can just buy it over the counter whereas you would need a script anywhere else. A GP should be able to help if not. Best of luck!

I wish every expat would insist on local water in restaurants in Dubai! The Voss water is ridiculous, tastes the same as Masafi but comes in huge glass bottles that weigh a lot, think of the carbon footprint of that water before you order, I know it is only the tip of the iceberg, but every little thing helps.

The St Regis is doing a brunch /overnight deal. 1500 dhs including brunch and room for two and breakfast the following morning, so you check I. Friday morning if you only want to spend one night, it is real champagne as well! You can add on another night for a full weekend. Westin in Abu dhabi is doing a very similar deal, both seem to have good spas.

You could try contacting Dr Raymond Hamdan at the Human Relations Institute, he is quite prolific and has a lot of contacts. To teach at uni you need a PhD, but it sounds like you are more applied anyway, best of luck! <em>edited by Snugs on 19/04/2012</em>

Our old maid still visits us regularly, she left to work part time, paying a local sponsor 50k to give her a visa. She was arrested a few months ago on umm sequin road, she was driving her own car and was pulled over for a random check. She spent 10 days in jail, but was let out as her sponsor helped her and she is continuing to work for many part time families! She said it was still worth it! the sponsor was not fined btw!

I think Club Med have resorts in Turkey that cater very well for families, all inclusive as well. I haven't been though so cant personally recommend it. Maldives would also be good.

Loved your posts SkyKitty, I hope that your hard work and great attitude is rewarded. I agree many people think they can make unreasonable demands when they get on a plane, I am always intrigued by the inner workings or air crew and how it all works, it must be a great job that has some terrible moments, like being puked on!

Interesting comments, thanks so much to all of you for your input. It is a difficult situation I know. To put things into perspective a little, I have never been christened but my husband has.mwe are both British and when we got married here we had to get married in a church. This felt a little hypocritical to me, but there was no way around it. I will pass these comments on, thanks again, I know I can always turn to people here for help and advice!!

My kids went to Little Wonders for years, I loved it there, the teachers are lovely, as is the owner Lara. We moved to Victory Heights so moved our younger ds to Wonder Years and it is also excellent. little Wonders do great food for the kiddies, Wonder Years can reheat a pack lunch. I guess it is down to convenience, if you work LW is better as they are open til 6:00pm.

Are you extreme dieting? This will render your blood sugar very low and likely to lose the plot! I did this myself during the summer (bikini pressure) take a deep breath and relax! You can make amends with your kids, just try to take one step at a time and breathe. We put so much pressure on ourselves to be great all the time, when that simply is t possible. Give yourself a break, put the kids to bed, and don't fret, tomorrow is another day. We all feel like this! Have a drink, or a cuppa... If it is worse than I am imagining, please say so. Take care

JS I am the same, I think when you have kids you sleep "on one elbow" ready to wake at the drop of a hat. Last weekend I was away for a tournament without the kids, and I woke up in the same position I fell asleep in! Two nights on the trot, as soon as I got home I was back to restless nights... Medication is definitely not the way ahead, although I do resort to Zyrtec if I can't sleep, a bit naughty but more of a placebo effect I think!

Ironic, I am the same! Last year I won a voucher for 1,000 dhs at rivoli... So I take my voucher and go to the one at difc that sells sunnies, and I just couldn't choose a pair. I don't like spending that much money on a pair of sunglasses! It took me three visits, the last one on the day the voucpcher expired for me to choose a pair. I am proud to say, one year on I still have them and LOVE them! Of course it was a voucher so it was easier than parting with cold hard cash! I say follow your heart, I am sure you do lots for others so give yourself a break and don't be embarrassed!
