Wear something semi comfy and semi high shoes, otherwise it is a killer, and organize a private taxi otherwise it is a long day. I went last year, paid for premium tickets in hospitality as MIL was visiting and it was a total waste of money, food terrible, wine even worse, when you could actually get it! Definitely go for normal tickets and have loads of fun, people watching is a sport in itself!

It's a social occasion, not many people are there for the horses, just like not many people care about the rugby at the sevens... Or the golf at the road to Dubai, I mean they have the Left Bank wine bar on the 17th hole! Nobody is watching it!

I loved the movie too, I actually thought that the maids in TH had a much better life than most of the maids here. They all had weekends off, lived with their OWN kids and basically worked a regular working day, making the bus to work etc... Yes the racism was there, but isn't it here? It made think a lot about how our maid hasn't seen her daughter for 8 months and I slept pretty badly that night. It still gnaws at me, I work so need a maid before anyone bites my head off!

I don't hink HRI has psychiatrists, only psychologists. It will be hard to get an appt tomorrow for anyone good, if it is really urgent see a GP and ask for emergency referral. Many meds can be bought over counter as well... Not advocating that by the way, but if it is an emergency.... Best of luck... Or try a hospital

I went there before Christmas thinking, great, I can order a nice turkey... disgruntled even go in, they didnt have any meat out in their counters and the chickens were those disgusting tiny ones that are battery farmed... Not what inwould call a butcher. I was very disappointed. II think it is more geared towards Indian and Pakistan type of meats. Someone correct me if I am wrong! edited by Snugs on 20/02/2012

That's kind of like asking how long is a piece of string. Depends on the man and the relationship... A year would seem sufficient if it was particularly bad, otherwise he could be using it as an excuse to avoid intimacy. Good luck, sometimes you just have to be there quietly to show women can be trusted and not put any unreasonable demands on him!

If you have a big enough group you can hire a limo! Look at Dubai exotic limo, or any other limo company here, it is about 350 per hour so if there are more than 8 of you it isn't much and you can arrive in style! We often do this for when we want to go somewhere on a Thursday night and there are more than 8 of us, you are at least guaranteed the car is coming, unlike a taxi on a Thursday night which are hard to come by where we live.

HimPerces, do you have kids? I personally have found it too hard to stay that long, Is there a reason you have to stay that long? Personally, with a 3 and 5 year old, I would rather do three weeks in England and come back here, yes it's hot, but you are home!

I wouldn't give the vaccine, it has been heavily promoted by some governments because the pharmaceutical company lobbied for it. It is not a vaccine against cancer, it is a vaccine against an std that CAN cause it, plus, as others have said, the vaccine only protects against some strains. I don't think the benefits outweigh the risks of side effects, this has been widely documented. My advice is be well informed before making a decision.

I personally think that JT represents everything that is malignant about football, but isn't innocent until proven guilty something to strive for.... For those of you who dont know, JT was accused of racially abusing an opponent. You can see on YouTube what he did, and it certainly looks like he is guilty and he is the captain of the England football team. Thoughts?

Our villa was very late too, but it is all forgotten now, we love living here and I am just glad that we didn't buy at Jumeirah golf estates! I think taking legal action could also involve a lot of emotional and monetary investment with a small chance of winning any compensation. Yes, it was a long delay, but if the credit crisis had happened a year earlier we could still be waiting for somewhere to live and have lost a lot of money. I guess it depends on how strongly you feel and the commitment you feel towards taking legal action. We've been here over two years now and think it is a wonderful place. Good luck with whatever you decide to do! There is a forum for VH residents and you might find a lot more information on there, just google it.

Look on www.timeoutdubai.com they have all the restaurants listed by area and cuisine. There are soooo many to choose from it is hard to give a recommendation. My favorite is Rivington Grill overlooking the fountains, but we went to Maya for the first time (Latin American) and will definitely be back.

The problem here is that metal sliding doors have no locks on them. We looked at having locks put on, and we needed to have them taken off the door frames and taken to al quoz for ten days whilst they fitted locks. We ended up putting blocks of wood below where the door slides open to block it, but it didn't take long for the kids to figure that trick out! Let's not forget Eric Claptons son fell out of a high rise in new York many years ago (tears in heaven anyone?) so it isn't just 'ignorant uneducated" people this can happen to. You have to always think about the worst case scenario...

I agree Claire, but it is an american's unaliable right to plead the fifth amendment and not be judged for it, complete boll***cks of course, but still a right! I think he deserved it, even longer! He was a happy enabler who took advantage of a sick person, his family, though, should have taken greater care of him, although I suppose they were ignorant of what was actually happening. So sad that it has come to this, my five year old ds loves MJ!

A review if anyone is thinking of going there. We had visitors last week and thought a penultimate night would be having drinks at bahri bar followed by dhow to restaurant. When I booked I asked for a table outside, they said they couldn't guarantee it and tables are booked at either 6:30 or 9:30. Too early or too late of you ask me, anyway we booked for the late table but called from bahri bar at 8:45 asking if we could come earlier... No, they said, all booked but we could come to the bar, which we did, at 9:00 and lo and behold more the five empty tables outside! So sat down eventually and ordered food, all fine but the food, when it arrived, was so below par that we refused to pay for it. It totally ruined the evening and ambience, especially since it was a celebration. The problem with the meals was quantity and quality. I ordered the beef rendang, and it literally had four cubes of beef (and I mean cubes). This at 120 dhs without rice! It took over an hour to sort out the bill, mine wasn't the only meal that was unacceptable, the Thai chicken curry had similar amounts of chicken in it it as well. The excuse given was that the chef had done 120 covers that night! So, think twice about going there, it relies too heavily on the view and not what customers want. I hate the way restaurants here try to make you eat when they want you to, and I wish they would appreciate the custom from expats.. Yes, I know they have to keep tables for hotel guests, but we are here all year round. Not a rant, but in case anyone is thinking of going there. I have given them my complete feedback and had no response.

Good on you moo moo, it won't be easy, but you are there for a good reason, keep that in mind. guiness, I am sorry you have had a bad experience with ex-wives. Some are reasonable though and will understand why the OP is going.. If I can hijack here, and I am sorry to the op, but my twin is newly divorced from what was one of my best friends for over 15 years. He is now tentatively dating and his potential girlfriend and she has told him that he cannot continue a friendship with me! We all have kids who are cousins, and I find this so depressing. Yes, I am sure it would be weird for her to meet me (we are identical twins) but surely you can't make rules like this? Sorry OP, I hope you don't mind but I do think that relationships outsidenthe actual marriage should remain...

Interesting perspective, but I think you missed the point, women typically have lowered self esteem after reading glossy mags because the images of perfection are unattainable for most people, and those images are often as portrayed in that video. If I make a fantastical pose in the mirror I sure as heck look better than if I face it square on, but can I go to work like that? Uhm, no...

Ours uses the kitchen we set up in the garage for when we are home, and uses our kitchen when we are out during the day or if she is babysitting. If she is cooking strong curries she lights incense! Her doing, not our insistence. Hth
