thank you all for your help! I went to Party Zone in Dubai mall and they had bumblebee wings and a headband with feelers for 70dhs - not too bad, I didnt have time to be creative and make them myself! They had other costumes too, as well as a full bumblebee outfit with striped tights and everything for 190dhs

Hi ladies, My 1.5 year old used to have a runny nose and cough with mucus about 95% of the time and I thought it was just her catching a bug from nursery. I took her to a homeopathic doctor and he recommended taking her off cows milk completely and giving formula or soy milk. She was having cows milk 3 times a day about 250ml. It has made SUCH a difference she sleeps so much better, and her cough is gone. The other day I ran out of formula so I just gave her cows milk and within an hour she was coughing again. I really recommend giving it a try to see if it helps your toddler.

This is a really useful recent thread on the topic: http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic218704-dubai-free-zone-business-setup-with-virtual-office.aspx We are most likely going with Fujairah Creative City (their Dubai office is behind MOE), there's also Creative Zone in Dubai who will do all the running around for you but you pay extra - I'm guessing they are similar to the consultants you mentioned but I know 2 people who have used Creative Zone and are happy with them.

Just turn on a tap. Homeopathic medicine is literally just water. I'm a big believer in homeopathic treatment - it was the only medicine that cured a year long dry cough I had - the GPs asthma medicine and other treatments did nothing!

Ive ordered lots of things directly from Amazon shipping here (not using ShopnShip) such as toys and shoes, at Checkout Amazon told me the cost of shipping - and they were sent to my work or home address, NOT a PO Box.

I wanted at least 3 or 4 kids but now after DD and all the exhaustion, sleepless nights, tantrums, screaming car rides, lack of social life etc DH and I both say we don’t want anymore kids. However there is still a part of me that wants more kids for lots of reasons - it was always my dream to have a big family, I loved having a sister, I think kids who have no siblings have a higher chance of turning out spoilt (my DD already is!), I kind of miss the baby stage etc. All very emotional non-logic based reasons but there you go! Logic would tell me don’t have any more kids because of expenses, I was so tired out with the first one etc, emotions tell me other wise, so it’s very confusing but I can see where your DH is coming from because my DH is like that too. Give him some time and space, he might come around.

You can do both at the same time. We went to Jafiliya to apply, so right next to the centre there was a typing centre, so we went there first, we gave DD’s passport copy, they typed up her Emirates ID application form and we paid there, took the Emirates ID application proof to Jafiliya next door, and they started to process her visa. For newborn you don’t need fingerprints or a new picture (just take a passport picture), so the Emirates ID process is faster, and both Emirates ID and applying for visa can be done on the same day.

Thanks for your reply Whereintheworld! Just to update, I went to Mothercare and saw the MacLarens they were great, was just about to purchase when the salesman showed me the Baby Jogger City Mini, and I loved how big and comfy it looked so decided to go with that! I'm totally in love with it and DD is super comfortable too.

Hi, Just to update we went for a tour of the nursery and I really liked it. The villa is very nice and spacious, location is great, although I thought the garden was abut empty and could do with more swings etc. Inside was very clean, classrooms were organised and nicely done up. They have Arabic and French which is great, and uniform is only for kids who are 2 years+. I thought the staff was very pleasant too, and the kids seemed to be happy and having fun. We were looking at it as an option to move DD closer to us location-wise and this is just behind our house. However DD is so happy at Inspire (Umm Suqeim) I just can’t move her away just because of the longer commute! Just thought I’d share my tour of Little Champions nursery for any other parents who are considering it, I would recommend seeing it in person.

Pretty Lady is the best value for money - it might not be the most fancy salon in terms of decor and the whole *spa experience* but they do a great job and cost less than the fancy places. I'm super lazy about getting mani/pedi and theirs always lasts the longest (in terms of nail polish chipping). edited by sourskittleashnut on 26/02/2014

Hi, I just got AXA Health Perfect 5 plan, covers Medcare as well as City Hospital (no dental though). Mine was approx. 4000dhs and DD who is 1.5 years old was approx 3000dhs. I'm very happy with the plan and the amount of coverage. Based on that I think your family would come to about 15,000dhs.

I have a SkipHop and i LOVEEEE it! They have a big version called DUO DELUXE for twins too, available at Bumble Bee Dubai Mall (or buy it on Amazon, it'll cost you half the price than Dubai, and use Aramex Shop and Ship which is what I did :) My favourite thing about their bags is that they clip easily onto strollers (the Duo Deluxe is wide for twin strollers), lots of pockets, easy to clean, great finishing and cute patterns. http://www.skiphop.com/product/duodoublediaperbag.html edited by sourskittleashnut on 25/02/2014 edited by sourskittleashnut on 25/02/2014

Kezzler I'm glad your experience was smooth! My sim was under my fathers name, and to get it in my name was so annoying. Basically: - My dad went to Etisalat Head Office, they said I need to do it, he doesn’t need to be there - I went to Etisalat in Trade Centre office, they said I need my dads original Emirates ID - I went back with the ID, they said he needs to be there in person too - We both went together and finally got it done It was so annoying going back and forth and every person had a different procedure for the transfer. They were very unprofessional.

Grandmothers in our family recommend puting a sack of lentils/chickpeas or what-have-you and letting the baby rest his/her head on it while sleeping. I totally agree with this advice. Also, I was so worried my DD had a weird shaped head as a new born and she still sort of does, but the flatness did round off over time - she gets it from my husband, luckily there's long hair to cover it now :D

Hi, My friends son had a speech delay at FS1 in Jumeirah Primary School and they were so supportive - they had a speech therapist who would come into the school, and he also used to go to Kids First for Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy. I think very highly of JPS just because of what my friend told me about how supportive his teacher was, kept giving the mom updates, and gave the boy a lot of 1-on-1 attention that he needed. He has really thrived in that school and is now 7 years old and is the top in his class in spelling bees :D Hope you are able to find a suitable school for your LO edited by sourskittleashnut on 24/02/2014

I had a maid who used to use my hairties, I found it super annoying. Just buy her a pack of hairties and tweezers, and give them to her and say politely that you would rather she use her own and she can just ask you if she needs anything - she will get the hint, and it doesnt need to be a confrontational scene.

Hi, I hope you don;t get induced, it's always best for the baby to come out when he/she is ready! Your body knows when the time is right, if there's no medical reason then avoid it as much as you can. I was supposed to be induced, I went in 10 days before my due date for a checkup and they felt DDs heartrate was too low so the doc calmly told me I had to get induced that night! I was so upset because I really didnt want to be induced, so I went home to pack my bag did the exercises they say help brings on labour and made soooo many prayers that I dont have to be induced somehow. We check in at night, I was all prepped and ready, the doc came in to induce me and she checked that I had already started getting contractions for going to into labour! It was such a miracle I couldnt believe it! I was sooooo happy (until the real pains started lol!). They did break my waters though which is like a minor way to induce, because DDs heartrate was too low so they wanted to hurry it up. I had a short labour, in the sense that at midnight I started contractions, and 7 hours later DD was born. On the other hand, my sister was induced and from the time they induced her till the time her son was born it was almost 24 hours, so I do think getting induced does prolong the contractions time. She had a long pushing stage too. I really hope you dont have to get induced and your LO gets to come out when he/she is ready :) edited by sourskittleashnut on 23/02/2014

Hi, This thread might help: http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic167765-good-pediatrician-in-dubai-.aspx I personally like Dr. Khan at Cooper Clinic and Dr. Jens Kempf at GMC Clinic Jumeirah I took DD to Dr. Khan when she was 4 days old because the in-house pediatrician at the hospital was terrible and freaked out us out that DD had jaundice and needed phototherapy, long story short he was completely wrong and I took DD out of the hospital against his wishes, and took her to Dr. Khan and he was very reassuring and practical, looked thru DD's hospital reports thoroughly, and he really helped calm me down. edited by sourskittleashnut on 22/02/2014

Hi, Have you looked at Little Champions, its just off 1st interchange near Life pharmacy? I have heard good things and is just off the interchange so easy to get back onto the highway and no salik: the other nurseries inside Jumeirah means Salik and youre going to get stuck in the school traffic: my DDs nursery is next to Umm Suqeim spinneys and the traffic in that area in the morning can be a nightmare sometimes Just to add though, my nephew went to Raffles nursery in Springs and it was fantastic Location of Little Champions: https://maps.google.ae/maps?ie=UTF-8&q=Little+Champions+Nursery&fb=1&gl=ae&hq=little+champions+nursery+dubai&cid=16457587837788774043&ei=lLgBU4zzLqjb7AaW4oD4DQ&ved=0CLQBEPwSKAAwDQ edited by sourskittleashnut on 17/02/2014

Hi, I have AXA for my 1.5 year old daughter (Health Perfect 5 plan) and I'm very happy with them, you would have to check what their policy is regarding newborns. I think you would need to be on a company's insurance, and only then will they give insurance for your newborn. I'm not sure since when DD was born we had no insurance for her (wish we had!) But I'm happy with the AXA Health Perfect 5 plan generally, covers alot of major clinics and Mediclinic City Hospital. This plan doesnt cover vaccinations but we have a govt Health Card for DD so most vaccinations are free (some aren't, for instance RotaVirus). edited by sourskittleashnut on 17/02/2014

I totally agree, we don't have a full-time maid and it's very stressful the days DD has a holiday or is unwell and we have to figure out which one of us can take a day off from work. You could put your baby in a nursery that's close to you so you could leave work for a bit to drop him/her off at home around 5 and come back to work - would your husband be able to be home then? Not sure how far away your office and house are, and how accommodating your employers are! I strongly agree that you need a full-time maid though, or hire a reliable babysitting service for those few hours daily (AED35 per hour). There's maids.ae and some others who offer this, but they might not stay till past 6 or 7pm edited by sourskittleashnut on 13/02/2014

Thanks all for the support, I feel soooo much better knowing other moms are in the same boat as me! We've decided to keep DD in nursery but take some extra precautions, including: - No more pacifier (touches alot of germs, falls on the floor and I'm sure DD just puts it back in her mouth) - Clean her hands and face thoroughly with soap as soon as she's home from nursery - Send to nursery her own blanket instead of using the nursery ones - Humidifier in her room at night to help her breathe better Thank you all again :)
